Right, this year I'm actually going to do it. 4.5 stone to lose

I've weighed myself and am almost 15 stone at 5' 5. My ideal weight is 10 1/2 stone.

So to get to my ideal weight by next Christmas I need to lose 6lb per month.

I'm giving myself time to ease into it but the plan from tomorrow is -

16:8 fast. This will work well as I'm visiting family and they constantly try to feed us but we can plan visits around eating times!

Increase my steps so I'm walking 15 miles + per week. I don't drive so it means less short bus journeys. Put the money I'd spend on busfare in a little jar to buy lovely beauty treats.

Print out a list of goals and associated treats making sure I link them to inch loss and fitness too, not just the scales. Hopefully this will keep me nicely motivated.

Dry January

From Jan 2nd low carb and lots of water. Follow the bootcamp principles.

Meal prep each weekend so we have handy microwave meals which are healthy.

Anyone fancy joining me?

How hass day 1 of lighterlife gone J008?

I’ve been ok again today. Because I’m not banning everything I’ve not got into my usual stress/binge. Although I’m bloody hungry now but don’t want to start eating at this time of night.

glenthebattleostrich · 03/01/2019 12:55

After all, how is today going?

I'm back on low carb today. Putting all my chocolate in a big box for a few weeks and then will decide if I want them.

Steps crappy today but plenty of time to make that up, have 2 dog walks to go and loads of tidying and cleaning to do yet.

Forgot to weigh myself this morning so hopefully remember in the morning. Get a nice lie in until 6:30 tomorrow!

Not as active as would like to be as walking anywhere takes forever with my hoard, but they're back to school next week and have planned to start some short daily workouts as well at home. Foodwise, I'm trying to follow the calorie recommendation myfitnesspal gave me...which I've managed for all of a day and a half so far. 😁

But I did buy some scales...which I have never owned before!

glenthebattleostrich · 03/01/2019 21:28

Day 3 of dry January and I could murder a g&t! But I'm resisting in the hope I start to get some of the benefits at some point (yes I'm very impatient!)

Food went to crap as the day wore on and didn't get anywhere near my steps. Kids are back at school on Tuesday so will get walking more then. The dog is objecting to being made to go far in the cold (bloody princess).

But tomorrow is a new day!

Happy New Year.
I'm in a similar position to you Glen, about 4.5 stones to lose.

I need to get more active, I used to cycle and workout regularly but the last five years I have been really neglecting myself.
A combination of stress with my DS and a very stressful job have led me to comfort eat and lose the exercise habit.

You all sound great and I am looking forward to this journey with you.

A wedding in Italy in May is my first focus for weight loss.

Lolimax · 04/01/2019 12:55

Hello can I join? 14 stone 10 and 5ft 8”. Need to loose at least 2 stone!

glenthebattleostrich · 04/01/2019 13:51

All are welcome 😀

I'm having a better food day but am totally lacking any kind of motivation to get off the sofa. The dog needs walking, the Christmas tree taking down and the Hosur needs a good clean but I really can't be arsed.

I'm going to have a brew then pull myself together I think.

Morning

How is everyone today? I'm on a fast day today so lots of water this morning.

Taking down the Christmas decorations today and shopping. Tomorrow is food prep day. Need to get a good couple of dog walks in too.

Have a great day

How did you get on with fasting glen?

I had tons of ideas for food prep and low fat meals, but had a massive argument with DP last night which really demoralised me Sad all my kale is still sitting sadly in the fridge! Then the DC wouldn't go to bed till about half an hour ago, and here I am on MN procrastinating rather than cracking on with the things I need to do...

Went out for a woodland walk with DP and the DC earlier. They are all very keen on getting a dog, me less so; I know it would get my step count up (although I'm pretty good anyway) but more importantly, I know who'd be looking after it 90% of the time, despite what they say!

glenthebattleostrich · 07/01/2019 14:42

It went well thanks Ruby. I did 2 days of fasting then a relaxed day yesterday.

I'm back on proper low carb today, so have eaten really well and healthily. I've even managed lots of water too.

Sorry to hear about your row. Don't let it demoralise you, you can do this. The walk sounds lovely, I love getting into the woods. I find it so relaxing. I'm getting my stomp on on Friday, have a docs appointment in the morning I'll walk to and from (30 minutes each way) and will get my dog out for an hour too. Very excited.

I know what you mean about dog care but it is so worth it. I work full time, daft hours but from home (childminder) and I love having Madmutt. She's cost us a bloody fortune in the 4 months we've had her (food refusing, baby teeth not falling out, broken knee requiring major surgery as well as the usual immunisation and flea and worming etc) but I can honestly say I couldn't be without my little furry arsehole puppy!!

Forgot to weigh myself this morning.

Food:

B - Greek yogurt, strawberry and seeds
L - steak with mushrooms, tomatoes and peas
T - duck salad
S - pork scratchings

W - 2 litres so far

Better day today thanks glen (well DP was back at work, which helped!). Did some baking with the DC - trying really hard not to pass my bad food habits on to them - although they still love the usual crisps, biscuits, chips etc that most kids seem to prefer! Actually DTS2 is a brilliant eater and will try anything, but DTS1 is as fussy as fussy can be...

A friend recently adopted a dog from Romania and I'd definitely think about that, she says it has changed her life for the better too! I'm not bothered about a pure breed puppy or anything, a rescue dog would be lovely. To be honest I would like a dog as I think it'd change our lifestyle for the better - less big spends on days out and more simple pleasures of dog walking - but perhaps maybe wait a year or two till the DC can appreciate it a bit more.

Anyhow your food diary sounds like things are going well glen? I'm reading a Jack Monroe cookbook at the moment and it has some cracking ideas. I just need to cut down on some of the oil used!

glenthebattleostrich · 08/01/2019 06:55

Yesterday was a pretty good food day and still dry. I really need to up my exercise but I'm so tired at the moment. My asthma is playing up so I'm not sleeping very well at night.

Glad you had a better day. I love cooking with the smalls. I get them involved in all the food prep. Today we are making chicken pasta bake for their tea.

My planned menu for today is:

B yogurt with berries and seeds
L stuffed mushrooms with salad
T baked trout
S cheese and berries

I have some absolutely delicious water infusions so it's making drinking water much easier. And decaf tea so trying that each evening.

Dreading it.

glenthebattleostrich · 09/01/2019 09:29

How did it go Lizzie and umpteen? And how are you Ruby?

Food plan for today is

B - yogurt with blueberries and seeds
L - omlette
D - bacon cheeseburger with halloumi fries

Softplay this morning so wish me luck!

I’m a week in, plan to weigh on Saturday and that will be my weigh in day. So far have kept to plan no alcohol, bread, biscuits, cheese, cake. Avoiding snacking although had some crisps, avoided snacking and made conscious effort to increase activity.
Fingers crossed for Saturday!

RubySlippers77 · 09/01/2019 22:29

Well done glen! How was the hell that is softplay?!

I am aching all over today after falling over in the kitchen yesterday; all DTS2's fault, he'd left a clear plastic sheet lying around after peeling all the stickers off it - I stood on it, my foot went from under me and... ouch. But sadly no impressive bruise to show for it, just lots of muscular aches and pains.

I've been trying to find a new swimsuit (after the last one pinged apart Blush, thankfully just before I got in the swimming pool and not during!) but ebay/ Amazon etc seem to assume all swimsuits should be 'sexy' or 'revealing'. Er no, I'm buying a size 18 to cover all eventualities, scaffolding is in order here.....

glenthebattleostrich · 10/01/2019 11:57

Soft play was awful! But I didn't have cake, just a glass of water so feeling a bit smug!

Today I have raging munchies. I've eaten a ton of fruit and cheese. Must have more water to try to fill up

Oh no Ruby, hope you feel better soon. Have you looked at Matalan for swimsuits? I got my last 2 from there and they have lasted well and look like they are made for actual activity not just lazing by the pool!

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 11/01/2019 22:39

They don't sell nice cake at our local soft play. I feel this is definitely missing a trick!!

Well, after the DC being back at preschool for almost a week, the house is finally tidy again and I'm able to think about meal planning etc. And about time, as DP wanted a takeaway this evening and it wasn't very nice, so oily! He had another moan that he's not losing weight despite going to the gym a couple of times a week - he's put on 4lb since November and is now back over 22 stone again - but has now headed off out to drink his body weight in beer and Jack Daniels Hmm

I'm feeling a bit better now thanks glen. Sadly I never got an enormous bruise to show for the pain! But I'm feeling more energetic and more 'me' now the house is tidy again and I can think straight. I thought I was doing well with averaging 16K steps per day, but I'm on a Fitbit challenge board and the leader averages 30K; how does anyone even have the time to do that?!?

aurorie11 · 12/01/2019 08:31

Weigh in

Start 13-11 on 2/1
Now 13-6 on 12/1

Woo-hoo!

glenthebattleostrich · 13/01/2019 14:02

Another 1lb off today. It's very slow going but sustainable this time.

Well done aurorie, that's brilliant going.

Ruby, good luck with the meal planning.

This week, I'm continuing dry January (yeah Hmm), sticking with low carb and am going to aim for more steps. Just about to pop some beef in to roast for tea and then walk the dog.

This is the thread for me! I'm in. Cutting out wine, moving a lot more and being single minded about my health. Straight line for 2019 all the way to 10st 10.
Today I am 15' 10.

RubySlippers77 · 13/01/2019 22:01

Well done on your 1lb off glen. Slow but steady wins the race Smile

Hello Rosemary, hope it's going well so far!

Haven't meal planned yet but trying to not procrastinate get motivated to start by going through the fridge and making a list. I LOVE lists. Why can't I get excited about this one?!

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 13/01/2019 22:06

I'm good at cheer-leading others but rubbish at motivating myself. It will be so good when we get to Christmas! Day by day it's got to be every day for me. I'm uncomfortable, nothing fits, my thighs wobble and it's difficult to pick things up. I saw a photo of myself yesterday and just can't believe this is me!!!! Lots of good times ahead happy to support everyone throughout 2019.
