Right, this year I'm actually going to do it. 4.5 stone to lose

glenthebattleostrich · 26/12/2018 09:16

I've weighed myself and am almost 15 stone at 5' 5. My ideal weight is 10 1/2 stone.

So to get to my ideal weight by next Christmas I need to lose 6lb per month.

I'm giving myself time to ease into it but the plan from tomorrow is -

16:8 fast. This will work well as I'm visiting family and they constantly try to feed us but we can plan visits around eating times!

Increase my steps so I'm walking 15 miles + per week. I don't drive so it means less short bus journeys. Put the money I'd spend on busfare in a little jar to buy lovely beauty treats.

Print out a list of goals and associated treats making sure I link them to inch loss and fitness too, not just the scales. Hopefully this will keep me nicely motivated.

Dry January

From Jan 2nd low carb and lots of water. Follow the bootcamp principles.

Meal prep each weekend so we have handy microwave meals which are healthy.

Anyone fancy joining me?

Morning, welcome everyone.

AF arrived today so I'm grumpy as hell. Hour and a half into the day and I'm craving chocolate and crisps. Won't crack them open until 12!

Holding steady at 14st 9.

Off to the parents and in-laws for a few days so wish me luck!

BatsAreCool · 27/12/2018 07:53

Good luck. I have frozen my chocolate to slow me down.

I weighed 70.2kg this morning. Not good when you are small in height and an apple shape so it's all around my boobs and belly.

glenthebattleostrich · 27/12/2018 07:54

@PawneeParksDept, have a look at some of the blood sugar recipies. There are some great lunch ideas in there. There are some lovely salad and kebab ideas in there.

I also like to have a stash of meatballs and koftas in the fridge to have with cucumber and tomatoes.

BatsAreCool, that's a great idea. I'm not packing any to take with me.

I'm big boobed too so look like a dumpling on legs at the moment!

I'm in please Smile

Will face the dreaded scales soon but first to finish the Christmas cake Cake

Willows have you looked at the Sugar Stop app? Lots of recommendations for that one. I'm not great at remembering to use apps but it does get good reviews. I'm in a similar position - desperate for more energy to keep up with my toddlers - but have had a terrible year health-wise and am also desperate to simply feel better and get through a day without painkillers!

A close friend has her wedding in July 2020 and I definitely want to be less porky for that. Plus a family member has been talking about a wedding abroad at the end of next year - this would require me to bare some flesh in shorts/ swimwear - not something I'm keen on at the moment Shock

My DC are walking but don't go very far or very fast, so I don't get a lot of cardio. Or a lot of time to do exercise once they are (finally!) in bed. Currently on the hunt for fitness equipment I could buy for home!

ThelmaRB · 28/12/2018 00:14

Me too! Three and a half stone to lose, fatter this year than ever after trying the no diet approach. Rejoined weight watchers 6 months ago but simply rebelled at following any of their rules. My feet hurt, my knees hurt, I feel really unfit and uncomfortable and I’ve just eaten 8 meringues in ten minutes. So starting tomorrow with 16:8 and low carb. Good luck everyone!

DizzyBeeme · 28/12/2018 09:48

I'm.in. I have 2 stones to lose. I'm starting the GM 7 day diet plan today it's good for kick starting weight.loss.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 28/12/2018 09:51

I’m joining but won’t be dieting, my plan is to focus on nutrient rich food and attack fat with exercise. So a calorie deficit through exercise and proper food. I am planning on slow weight loss to keep me from yo yo dieting.

Weepingwillows12 · 29/12/2018 10:03

I am still trying to figure out a good approach to lose weight. Actually not lose weight but get healthier and happier which by default should mean weight loss. So far I have decided to cut out alcohol, limit diet coke (have major issues here. Can drink 2 litres a day), try and eat less processed food and smaller portions (eat off side plate not dinner plate) and get walking more. Considering yoga too but exercising in front of people is terrifying and I start work early so go to bed quite early so finding a class after kids bedtimes but before mine is a challenge.

Slimming world is just fantastic
You don't have to go to the meetings you can get a gist of the plan online from forums.

curlyLJ · 29/12/2018 10:45

Why not focus on doing some exercise that you enjoy and getting fitter rather than focussing solely on food and what you can/can't eat?

If you eat sensibly, cutting out processed goods, drinking more water, cooking from scratch, lots of veg and good protein- it will all improve your overall nutrition, which is what you want.

In order to burn fat off you need to exercise. Using weights, or doing exercises using your own body weight (squats, press ups etc) you will increase your muscle mass and improve your metabolism. Cardio will also help. How about starting a couch-to-5K running program for example? (I speak from experience when I say running is the quickest way to lose body fat and drop dress sizes)

Please don't do slimming world (or any of the other well known 'diets') as it's a con. Teaches you nothing about nutrition just shames you into sticking to a diet. Don't even get me started on syns!!

Neverunderfed · 29/12/2018 11:08

I'm starting next week. I have bought a Fitbit, and Tom kerridge's 'diet' book. I have a toddler at home and very little time on my own, but am going to incorporate more exercise with him...take the dog on school run so we can walk on after, go for a cycle with him type thing. Slow and steady.

SleepPerChanceToDream · 29/12/2018 11:49

Can I join too? I weighed myself this morning. I am 16st 6lbs, my heaviest ever. In July I was 14st 5lbs, which I was already upset about, but would now give anything to be back at that weight.

My gain has been due to comfort eating - my DH is suffering with depression and I am doing absolutely everything at home and with my DC, plus I am on the middle of the biggest project I've ever worked on at work. I am so busy I could probably have lost weight during this time, but I have defaulted to self-destructive overeating instead.

Feeling very disappointed in myself but also ready to tackle it - again!

SleepPerChanceToDream · 29/12/2018 11:52

In the past I've had success with a combo of 16:8, low carb and using MFP.

TheHoundsofLove · 29/12/2018 12:20

I'm in too please!
I've started today - I am out for NYE and then have my PILs staying for a week, but I've just had enough and don't want to wait another week...we'll see how it goes.
I had some success with 5:2 last year, but have decided to ditch all 'diets' and take the same approach as Delores - cut out rubbish and increase exercise. I'm going to train for a half marathon (I completed C210k this year and have discovered that I really enjoy running unfortunately also really enjoy cake, wine, chocolate, puddings...and did I say wine ) and do The Shred/lift weights to tone up!
I'm going to be 40 at the beginning of 2020 and am determined to feel at my best by then. So, here goes...I'm 5'3 and weighing in at 12st 2.
Good luck, Ladies; we can do this!

DizzyBeeme · 29/12/2018 14:26

So I've.lost over 2 pounds in 2 days on the GM Diet- I went to the gym today and feel really pleased with.my results !!

sparkle789 · 29/12/2018 21:38

Can I join you?

I’m forever starting diets then getting angry that I have to diet and giving up.
I’m 13.10 (well I was before Christmas!) but will weight in tomorrow. I’m going to try and just be mindful of what I’m eating and walk more. I want to ideally be 11st but if I can get to 12 I know I’ll feel so much better. I also need to cut out takeaways dh and I ordering them far to often!

WhenCanISleepAgain · 29/12/2018 21:39

Can I join here too? I lost 8 lbs in November/December and also completed the Couch to 5K running plan but have gone into free fall over Christmas. I’m staying with family and struggle when I’m not planning my meals carefully. I’m hoping to get back on track from tomorrow. I’ve got about 3 stone to lose in total.

chalkyc2 · 29/12/2018 21:47

Me me me too! Sadly it would seem I need to lose 7 stone. That's like a whole person!! I both can laugh and cry at this, it's so awful. I'm currently at the in laws for new year and being fed but this has to be the year I do something about this. Or I'll get some obesity related illness and it will be my own fault.

So I'm thinking that the 'eat less food' diet should help. My portion sizes are too big and I snack on crisps and chocolate. And I do little exercise. It's kind of not hard to work out why I'm very overweight.

chalkyc2 · 29/12/2018 21:51

@Weepingwillows12 - I too have Diet Coke issues. It's just so delicious...but it's not good!

glenthebattleostrich · 30/12/2018 17:01

Hello, on my way home having spent 4 days with family. Dread to think what the damage has been.

On the plus side, the vet has okey'd increased walks for dpuppy after she broke her knee so we are ok to build her up to 3 - 4 30 minute walks by the end of January. This will help with the steps and give less time for sitting on my sofa eating!

One last party tomorrow night then I'm getting serious on the low carb diet. And dry January. It has to be done, I have the worst PMT in years, complete with migraine and shooting pains into my groin.

Welcome to all new friends. I'm a daily weigher so will pop my weight daily and a little run down of food and exercise.

glenthebattleostrich · 30/12/2018 17:03

And re diet coke addiction. It was the hardest think I've found to kick. 3 days of horrible headaches and felt horrible. After a week I felt great though and I'm so glad I did it. I can have the odd one now but do sometimes feel like it's creeping back in and need to go cold turkey again.

I replaced it with cooled fruit teas and water and felt loads better for it

Weepingwillows12 · 31/12/2018 07:28

I worked out a minute ago that if I stopped buying diet coke and alcohol I could save almost £2.5k per year. That's ridiculous. Why am I wasting money on it! Actually for me, my life is quite hectic and I naturally prefer routine so I cling to the bits I can control a lot eg a diet coke when I wake up, a beer when the kids are in bed, read before sleep, hot water bottle whatever the weather. Silly things but I find habits very hard to change. Just need to be tough for a bit.

Bought a fitbit so going to up my walking. Looked at the walk 1000 miles challenge. Looks quite good. Anyone fancy doing that too?

chocolatespiders · 31/12/2018 07:35

I need this I need to lose four stone. I am so unhappy in my job and I come home and snack so much. During the day at works I am fine. Fruit and soup for lunch. I get home and go crazy!!

glenthebattleostrich · 31/12/2018 08:43

@weepingwillows12 I'd love to do that challenge with you. I'll find my user name on Fitbit and you can friend me if you like. My friend did the running one this year (she's nuts!) And it really motivated her.

I weighed myself this morning and I'm 14st 10 (205lb). By my holiday in April I want to have lost 21lb.

I'm at a party tonight so that's my last blow out. We have bought lots of healthy food to be delivered today so this afternoon I'm doing some food preparation so we have healthy meals we can just grab quickly for the rest of the week. I'm also going to sit down and meal plan (fun times!)

Have an amazing day everyone and happy new year.
