A stone by Christmas

Shalll · 29/10/2018 07:22

Is it possible and who will join me?

This stone has been with me for many years now since youngest was born... five years ago! I really want it gone especially as the weight is mainly around my middle.

So starting today:
Weight 11.8 stone or 75kg
Height 5.7 or 1.70

Using my fitness pal with target daily calories of 1,200. Aiming to reduce sugar / carbs and increase water intake. Exercise when possible but it's a juggling act with kids/work, maybe 3 workouts per week plus walk when I can.

Would love some company!

Ok day here
Breakfast cereal
Lunch soup
Dinner stir fry
Couple of satsumas
Not admitting to how much of dc food I 'finished' for them
Really want lots of chocolate....maybe a hot chocolate will hit the spot??

LurkYouLongtime · 14/11/2018 09:58

Hot chocolate or maybe dark chocolate if you like that? I've got such a sweet tooth, I think I could eat junk all day... I did recently melt some dark chocolate in the microwave and dip fruit into it. That was mega satisfying and delicious and a little chocolate goes a long way.

Satsumas as a snack is sounding amazing! Definitely going to pick some up.

Yesterday I got someone to hold the baby for an hour and the toddler and I made a big batch of Bolognese with loads of veg in it and cereal bars with lots of fruit and nuts. I also walked to the supermarket with the buggy and I'm going to walk into town today to post a parcel. Have ordered some size 12 dresses for the Christmas party so they are hopefully a good incentive to shift even just a bit of weight!

EmilyRosiEl · 14/11/2018 11:31

Hello,

Can I join please? I was 10 stone with a healthy BMI two years ago but my start weight a month ago was 15 stone 2 and I'm currently 14 stone something and an obese size 18 at 5 ft 6. I would love to get to 13 stone 3 or below by Christmas! I know I won't be slim but I'll feel like I've made a lot of progress!

My plan is as follows:

  • Run 4x each week- for years I ran every day and would like to get back to that but 4x/week seems sensible when I'm still a bit of a chubby-funster!
  • Dog walks 1-2x/day
  • 900-1600 calories per day with calorie cycling from one day to the next.
  • 5+ veg/fruit each day with one piece of fruit and 10 walnuts or almonds for snacks each day

So far today I've had:

  • A bowl of porridge (30g oats) and a cup of coffee- 307 calories

For lunch the plan is vegetable soup and dinner TBD!

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Shalll · 14/11/2018 12:26

That sounds like an excellent plan Emily! Welcome to the thread.

I had two workouts yesterday and such 'good' meals - poached egg and avocado for lunch (no bread) and stir fry beef and veggies for dinner. I then slightly ruined it by eating quite a few gingerbread biscuits... Oh well!

Today I am planning soup for lunch and possibly some cold roast chicken and vegetables for dinner.

I am feeling really positive though, scales nudging downwards at a sneaky mid week weigh this morning, wondering when the magical 70kg barrier will be broken...

halfwitpicker · 14/11/2018 12:33

Sounds like everyone is doing well.

Yesterday's food :

2 eggs
Skyr yog, I quite like it
Coffee

Large coffee at work
Cottage cheese
An Apple

Quiche, roasted cauliflower and butternut squash for lunch
Water through the day
Another coffee

2 salmon nuggets (totally delicious)
Chilli and jp for dinner

Couple of slices of smoked turkey before bed.
Tiny glass of wine.

Sounds loads written down Hmm

Out for lunch with a mate today and the menu is 'diner' style with lots of burgers etc, so not sure what I'll pick. Maybe the soup and a sandwich lunch special.

EmilyRosiEl · 14/11/2018 14:56

Thanks Shall! Your meals sound lovely- I might have poached eggs and avocado one day this week as daily porridge is getting a bit boring!

Good luck this week!

Halfwit, that sounds like a very healthy day with lots of protein, fruit, veggies. Did you make the salmon nuggets? I might have to try Skyr too!

I'm just trying to work out what to have for dinner now and work up the motivation to put my running shoes on! (I used to love running so hopefully will again soon!).

TheMildManneredMilitant · 14/11/2018 18:34

Evening all hope you don't mind another one tagging along but I've been lurking for a while so thought it only polite to say hello Smile

I've got about 2st to lose overall after having dc3 3 months ago. Calorie counting and to my surprise it actually seems to be working - 4lb lost since last Tuesday (although probably a lot of water, not expecting to continue at that rate).

Those of you who want to try and cook fresh but struggling for time - I'd really recommend the change 4 life recipe app. Recipes are all quite basic but also fairly easy and cheap and all 500 cals or less. My 8 and 10 year old also like looking through and choosing which ones they want to try out and then you can select your favourites and it generates a shopping list.

It's really motivating to hear your updates, and I love the keep on keep on mantra.

2anddone · 14/11/2018 19:11

Ok day again today
Breakfast...normal cereal getting boring now but not sure what else I have time for!!
Lunch....chicken, prawn and chorizo paella
Dinner....beans on toast with 2 fried eggs in frylite
Total for today comes to 1102 calories
I have 16 days until a 'do' I want to look good for and fit into a dress I already own as can't afford another one in a bigger size

sunshinel · 14/11/2018 19:48

Another one who's been lurking, hi! I hope it's ok if I join too. I've managed to lose 6lb since mid September but I was a stone lighter this time last year which is making me so annoyed but determined!
I'm trying to only have a banana and yoghurt for breakfast at about 10 o clock, which helps me to last till lunch with maybe an apple before hand.
Lunch today was Yorkshire provencial roast chicken and veg soup- really filling and tasty for only about 300 calories for the whole tub.
Dinner has been good so far this week but tonight I went to prezzoBlush although I had salmon, pesto and chilli pasta, no pudding and left some, but had wine...my biggest downfall! Determined to lose another 6-7lb by Xmas, using exercise bike at home and walking when I can

LakeFlyPie · 15/11/2018 08:12

Still managing to eat well this week. I always manage a week easily, then the challenge starts!
MFP is helping me not to snack, I do think a food diary is key for me. Virtuously declined M+S chocs at work yesterday Halo, just got to keep that going for the next 6 weeks.

Shalll · 15/11/2018 08:24

Two questions:

Do others on MFP 'eat' their exercise calories? I've been trying not to but it's very tempting...

Also: how do you deal with wine on a night out? I've got one coming up on Saturday and I'm toying with the idea of just saying I'm not drinking at all. Or will it be easier to avoid the questions, accept one glass and sip it slowly.

It's like back to being pregnant!!

Well done everyone for doing so well and keeping motivated. I've had a few days in hospital with Dc and so everything went out of the window! I've not weighed this week yet and think I'll wait until Sunday. Try to be good for a few days!!

RhubarbCrumbled · 15/11/2018 08:36

Morning, checking back in after a day completely off yesterday. It was DPs birthday treat on Tuesday (Dita Von Teese!!) and a day out in London yesterday. We have pizza for breakfast and cake for lunch and I might have eaten quite few leftover halloween chocolates last night. But I'm back!

Shalll we earn fit points on WW. I try hard not to eat them as it slows down my weight loss, but some days it's needed. So long as I don't eat them all and just dip into them occasionally then it should be ok. It's a test and see situation!

And hello to all the newbies!

2anddone · 15/11/2018 11:05

Hi Shalll I try not to eat them but sometimes I do! As for wine on a night out I make sure I have a 'meeting' or 'it's my turn to drive' so that people don't question if I just have one small wine and sip it slowly.
I am working late tonight and we have Chinese delivered, trying to be super good all day and not go crazy tonight so I don't go ridiculously over my calories!!

halfwitpicker · 15/11/2018 12:47

Also: how do you deal with wine on a night out? I've got one coming up on Saturday and I'm toying with the idea of just saying I'm not drinking at all. Or will it be easier to avoid the questions, accept one glass and sip it slowly

^^

I usually don't bother with dessert or a starter and have wine instead. But if you're out drinking, as it were, this isn't an option! Either say you're not drinking or have vodka and slimline tonics? Or drink less 🤔

halfwitpicker · 15/11/2018 12:51

Re salmon nuggets, they were from the supermarket and they were yummy! I'm sure they'd be easy to make.

Yesterday's lunch out wasn't a total disaster calorie wise : I had the 'business class lunch' which was lovely : soup, chicken schnitzel, gnocchi, salad, tiny black forest brownie. I didn't eat much of the gnocchi, had the brownie thought and had a diet Pepsi instead of a glass of wine. So not too much damage calorie wise.

Had baked pork chop with carrots and roasted cauliflower for supper.

I find keeping things lowish carb helps me keep on target.

Shalll · 16/11/2018 07:21

Do you think we'll all lose weight as a result? Wink www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-46143399

Posting here for accountability

Yesterday's food:
Breakfast: HUGE bowl of coco pops as it wasn't worth putting half a bowls worth back in the cupboard...

Lunch: spaghetti bolognese

Dinner: feta and tomato pasta

Snacks at work: wispa, 8 chocolate digestives and a 200g pot of sweet and spicy noodles because it was free from the colleague shop and I was peckish at 10.30pm....

Exercise: Zero!

Today
Breakfast: scrambled egg and cheese on whole meal toast

Lunch: vegetable finger sandwich

Dinner: Metchant gourmet lentil sachet and a mug shot at work

Snacks: hopefully none!

At least that's the plan. Hubby has said I can write him a shopping list and he'll do the shopping after work so there'll be some healthier options at home
MM xx

RhubarbCrumbled · 16/11/2018 12:28

Oh I hope so! So in theory, they need to make a kilo heavier so we weigh less of them. Fingers crossed!

I'm back on track now after a shaky Wednesday and a very tired day yesterday. Just not done a lot of exercise which is a bugger as I've signed up for a 10k run next year now.

Food for yesterday was:
B: porridge, cherries, 0%yogurt, milk (8)
L: Bolognese sauce, banana, popchips, satsumas, biscuit (7)
D: tomato soup, bread (7)

EmilyRosiEl · 16/11/2018 14:05

Hope you and your DC are OK Elloello- it's impossible to stick to a weight loss plan in that sort of situation!

Muddledmidget, thanks for posting that. I had a similar day yesterday and was feeling bad about it; somehow half a packet of biscuits disappeared and a massive quantity of pasta- oops!

So far today I've had a bowl of vegetable soup and a bread roll. I have not had a particularly good week diet-wise after restricting to 800ish calories/day last week and I think that some of my binge-eating has undone last week's efforts!

Shalll · 16/11/2018 19:32

Ahh I think we've all been there Muddled

Fridays are my nemesis as I'm home, often having friends over, and end up eating too much. DH has just suggested pizza for dinner and I'm really struggling to say no.

I did do crazy boot camp today so that makes up for it a little bit.

Interestingly I've not had chocolate for about three weeks and don't miss it Confused I thought my life depended on it!!

OP posts:
BlueCookieMonster · 16/11/2018 21:59

I've given up today, kids have made fridge cake and theres wine.

Never mind, I was actually rather active and all my calories seemed to be on track.

Has anyone any ideas for snacks, I still seem to be reaching for biscuits. I think I'd like to change that a bit.

LakeFlyPie · 16/11/2018 22:50

Cake and chocolate central at work today (with a bag of Liquorice Allsorts thrown in) and I managed to refrain. I find it's actually easier to eat none than 'just one'.

Shall - I'm not logging my exercise on MFP so it's only counting the calories calculated from steps (my Fitbit talks to MFP) which are deducted automatically.
Last time I used MFP I was logging my exercise classes (Bodypump and Combat couple of times a week) and couldn't believe the 600-800 calories it reckoned I was burning at a 1 hour class.

I only discovered the 'complete diary' function on MFP this week and love the 'if all yours days are like this one you'll be slim and gorgeous by Christmas' message. I find pressing Complete Diary really helps with the kitchen now closed mentality in the evening too.

HettyB · 17/11/2018 08:58

I’m a bit late to the party but can I join you?

I’ve got 10.5lb to lose - I would love to do it by Christmas but with 5.5 weeks to go that might be a bit unrealistic so I’ll aim for half a stone!

My plan:

  • count calories with MFP (stick to 1200 per day)
  • reduce carb consumption
  • avoid wine as much as possible!

I may be entirely derailed by the fact we’re on holiday for the first week in December but will try to make reasonably sensible choices!

2anddone · 17/11/2018 09:10

Welcome Hetty the more the merrier!!
I don't know about all of you but I am finding this thread really supportive.
Weigh in day for me today and I lost 2lb making me 10st 13lb (finally broke the 11st barrier!!).
I started in July at 11st 11lb the heaviest I have ever been and then stopped for a bit starting up again with this thread.
Thank you all for making me be accountable and making me watch what I eat.
Day off today as a big meal out with parents before they go abroad for the winter, going to try not to go crazy but will need wine and dessert so I don't look antisocial 😉😉
