Hello! Still here in Budapest. Still very much in holiday mode. Have been skipping breakfast but having wine with lunch. DH never drinks at lunch time even when we were in Greece but seems to have embraced it here! So I have been having a glass or two of rose. Just been out for lunch and am meeting some friends for afternoon tea and then out for dinner tonight. Tomorrow is our last full day as we travel back on Thursday. Dreading Friday’s weigh in. But then I have nothing going on to interfere. Planning on roughly following the BSD. Lots of walking. And weights. And no alcohol.

Although I think I might have sworn that before!

MissingPanda · 14/08/2018 13:25

Weighed in a day early due to not having time tomorrow. 11st 7.4lb so happy with that.

Cider enjoy your holiday and worry about it when you get back.

tv nothing wrong with 5 ingredients so long as they're relatively healthy.

TVHubbyClaire · 14/08/2018 13:25

quantum Thank you for that. I guess the main bit i fail at is eating what i enjoy beyond the point of being sufficiently full, especially in midweek evenings when i will be in bed a couple of hours later.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 14/08/2018 16:16

TV Yes, that's the hard bit! There can be an incredibly powerful mental link between feeling full and seeing an empty plate. Breaking that down is the key, it took me a while before and I expect it will again. Eating slowly/consciously really helps though.

TVHubbyClaire · 14/08/2018 17:00

I am definitely always told i am a slow eater because i do enjoy the process and experience of eating so that should help Hmm

I will need to look at portion size and see what I can change when at home during the week

TVHubbyClaire · 14/08/2018 17:02

panda I think my fear is that Jamie's 5 ingredient recipes aren't always created with dieters totally in mind.

I think I might treat myself to some kind of easy and healthy cook book

Hoolahoophop · 14/08/2018 22:33

Hi all, I'm feeling jealous of holidays!

Read Paul M book at my Nan's years ago (in the days before dieting was a necessity) might have another look now.

I'm being really good at logging, not so good at actually sticking to the plan. Dd is teething, I'm getting 5 hours broken sleep and nursery is shut down for the week, also mine and dm birthdays this week. But at least I'm getting back I t OK the habit of logging.

Might treat myself to some clever scales that talk to my Fitbit app for my birthday.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 15/08/2018 07:22

Hoola - we have scales like that, I think they at fab! Poor you with your sleep - I find bad sleep badly affects by appetite so it's no wonder you're having trouble sticking to the plan. Well done for entering it all, that's really more than half the battle.

A mixed day for me yesterday - wasn't hungry in the morning so no breakfast, then ate consciously at lunch (my main meal) and stopped when full before it was all finished. But inhaled my tea (bacon butty) without stopping to think so that was a bit of a fail.

This morning I'm another 0.5 lb down so that's more fluid coming off, but feel really bloated and gassy and also more hungry than yesterday so I feel today may be more challenging!

QuimReaper · 15/08/2018 09:13

TV getting a smaller bowl / plate is such an easy win with regards to portion size. I think it's to do with what Quant says about the psychological link between feeling full and seeing an empty plate. I gave it a whirl after reading it on MN and now I always eat from the smallest available receptacle. It's a total no-brainer, especially when I'm having something like soup or stew which it's so easy to dole out gallons of. If you just get a cereal bowl and fill it then you'll just eat that, whereas it's much less straghtforward to stop 3/4 of the way through a huge portion.

TVHubbyClaire · 15/08/2018 10:53

Quim I had first hand experience of exactly this last night

My mum gave me mince, potatoes and a little bit of veg and had i it for dinner last night.

I think she probably gives me equivalent of what her and my dad would share but I gave myself a big portion and ate the whole lot...Blush.

Afterwards I felt far too full and have resolved to add some extra veg and split her portion over two nights

This morning I weighed 12st again and I guess that's what i deserve for such a rookie error...Sad

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 16/08/2018 08:55

12st 11lb this morning, so no change today.

Yesterday was weird - my tummy felt uncomfortable, like it was gassy and bloated but with non of the (ahem) unsociable side effects you would expect. It made it hard to judge my hunger properly, but I did my best, and didn't eat all my lunch (prawn yaki udon noodles). I'm not worrying about breakfast at the moment (last time, I found that once I'd cracked stopping when full with other meals, breakfast just kinda happened), and although I ate all my tea, I ate very consciously and it was very small - a turkey bagel. I didn't feel at all over full at any point over the evening, so I think I probably judged that one right.

I still feel a bit strange this morning - wondering whether I'm about to woosh off some more holiday bloat? I'll down a couple of pints of squash and see what happens I think.

TVHubbyClaire · 16/08/2018 09:40

A disappointing 12st 1 today.

Off work tomorrow and going out for lunch, a bit worried about what next week's weight will be.

On the plus side I did get out walking this morning so hopefully that's the start of a good habit again

QuimReaper · 16/08/2018 09:55

TV it's really tricky when there's more food leftover! That's why the bowl solution is so good - if you can't physically fit more in the bowl, then however much is there in the "master portion" your eyes can't be bigger than your belly. Doesn't stop you going back for seconds, but it's a start Grin I always struggle when I make a large portion to be doled out over more than one day, I try to avoid it during the week. I make this veg frittata, but I've started only making it when DH is having the rest for his lunch the following day, because that way I start out by getting him to slice off a lunch portion and then we divvy up what's left. If we both just take what we want and there's no "intended purpose" for the last bit, I've been known to just polish it off completely Blush

I'll be in the same boat tonight, I'm making a big crock pot of leek, chicken and sweetcorn soup. My plan is to serve one portion and then put the rest directly in a Tupperware tub and straight into the fridge before I've eaten. If I don't, I know that when I'm putting the rest away I'll be spooning it into my mouth...!

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 16/08/2018 10:00

Quim, putting it straight tupperware then straight in the fridge is my tactic too, but that's through laziness, not dieting - when I make multiple portions, it really annoys me when DH (and it is always DH!) has extra, because then I don't have the right amount left for the next meal and I'll have to cook again insteadSmile

I'm doing it on Friday with my (very good, if I do say so myself) chilliSmile

BitOutOfPractice · 16/08/2018 11:20

No calorie counting today here. Out for lunch to celebrate DD’s brilliant A level results. She’s off to uni next month

Definitely a good reason to not watch food or wine intake today BOOP . Must be a very exciting day for you all

Have fun Smile

MissingPanda · 16/08/2018 12:55

Congratulations to your dd, BOOP..

Enjoy your lunch.

lovesugarfreejelly63 · 16/08/2018 13:10

My first weigh in tomorrow with SW, am feeling very apprehensive.

ponygirlcurtis · 16/08/2018 17:57

Yaaaay BOOP! Enjoy celebrating with DD. 😊

Whatever it says, lovesugarfreejelly, it's the first step in the right direction. Ie down!

I am still not quite back in the BSD zone but my calories have been much lower over the last few days than in the weeks before. Will batch cook at the weekend.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/08/2018 19:03

I’m drinking prosecco feeling a bit “all’s right with the world”-ish. DD is out on the lash.

Congratulations to your dd boop. FlowersGin

I'm having a shocking week. Not sure why but possibly hormonal. I just can't stop eating. Plus I've got birthdays and visitors to deal with this weekend. I might have to start again on Monday Blush

CiderwithBuda · 17/08/2018 07:36

Congratulations to your DD BOOP! Definitely a reason to celebrate and forget the diet for a day!

Well we are back from Budapest after a lovely time. Lots of eating and drinking although after the first three days we were only eating two meals a day as we were sleeping late and missing breakfast. No walking though. Only got to 10k steps one day and that was literally at two minutes to midnight! Anyway - weighed this morning and I’ve gained 3.4 pounds. About the same as when we went to Greece. Not too bad and I know it will come off quickly.

Am now on a mission as I have two things in November that I want to really lose weight for. Want to get down two dress sizes if possible. First is a good friends 50th party and second is a trip to Australia to see some friends.

Need to get back on track. I’m currently using MFP and walking. Will do that over the weekend and then from Monday I might start the BSD. Not entirely sure I will go as low as 800 calories but will see how I go.

I also signed up for a weights programme with Rebelfit and I’ve done zero workouts so need to get myself organised and actually do that.

Oh and completely agree about portion sizes. I’m actually not too bad at not automatically clearing my plate but I do eat too big portions of certain things. I bought one of those diet portion plates so must actually start using it. The only thing I found with it is that I don’t often eat a meal that is protein/carb/veg in the way the plate is divided. But it is a smaller plate generally so I should use it even with curries etc.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 17/08/2018 07:55

Well done, not-so-mini BOOP!

And don't panic, Kick - we all have bad weeks (I have more than most!). Ride it out, enjoy it, and reset next week.

I was another Linda down today, down to 12 9.8. That's just over 3lb of bloat off since Monday, which I am very pleased about, and just under 4lb to go until pre-holiday weight. I don't think much more of that will be fluid though.

Paul M went okay yesterday. I was more hungry so I ate more. Didn't finish my lunch, but then needed (so ate) a mid afternoon snack. But also didn't finish my dinner and that was fine. I'm starting to get the 'liberated' feeling I remember from last time, but feel there is a long way to go before I've picked the habits back up.

DH is doing well with his weight loss (similar amount off this week), but isn't doing Paul M properly, just having smaller portions and only snacking when hungry. He's outright said he isn't bothering to learn to stop when he's full. It's working for him so far, but I'm worried it won't last and I'm not sure Paul M will work if we're not both doing it. My concern is that if I get it and he doesn't, he'll go back to calorie counting, but we know from experience that only works if we both do it. Then I'll be under pressure to change. I know I'm over thinking it, but I'm annoyed he said he would do it but he isn't.

HappyGowerGirl · 17/08/2018 08:51

Hello all! Just checking in after coming back from holiday. You seem like a motivated bunch this month!!!

I had lots of pastry and wine on holiday😳 but I tried to have small portion sizes and occasionally after over indulging I would skip a meal which has helped.

Start of the month: 9 st 6.5
After holiday: 9 st 8

That’s a 1.5lb gain which I can live with.

Going to crack on and hopefully lose those final 4lb at last!

QuimReaper · 17/08/2018 09:42

Hello all!

First off WELL DONE BOOPLET!!!! Cake Flowers Gin Excellent, clever clever girl!!!!! I can fully see why you feel so at peace BOOP, you've done a stunning job on those girls, you deserve all the Prosecco and all the feeling of goodwill.

lovesugar Sorry, I think your first post passed me by - hope Slimming World has been working out for you, and best of luck with your first weigh-in - be sure to come and let us know.

Quantum I have never read any of the Paul M materials but my understanding was that it was very personal, more about your approach to food than about what you're actually eating? If I'm right, it doesn't sound like that would be incompatible with your husband calorie-counting, as a lot of that would be about the food content and the portion size, so as long as he's willing to take over the brunt of the weighing and faffing that comes with calorie-counting, I don't see why it can't work. (DH often calorie counts without knowing it, as I am Head Chef in our house and he eats what he's given Grin ) I guess it's often psychological though, it can be so much harder to stick to a programme when there's someone right next to you doing something different.

Happy I think 1.5lb is a perfectly respectable gain - I'm actually very envious, if I manage to keep my holiday gain to that I'll be golden!

Not weighing in today, as I'm having a Golden Friday 😇 I've managed to move my plans to Sunday, so in theory I won't weigh in until Sunday morning, although I may crack and do it tomorrow. Then I'll have three Golden Days and one filthy one before the debauchery truly begins next Friday morning. Ugh, 9hr flight to America - I intend to be very sleep deprived and hung over so I pass out for the whole thing!
