Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Ah fezzes I totally get that sudden self-realisation moment where you can't quite believe your past 'life', as it were.

Exciting night in the Tractors house tonight - we are all loudly singing along to Top of the Pops on BBC4, and having a bit of a dance too. Thank god the neighbours are on holiday Grin.

Oh well it is what it is.

Funny I was looking at old photos and for my starting weight I was literally like a big blob and for my current weight where I was happy before I can see it really doesn’t look good

It’s difficult as well because I was so heavy although I’ve done well it doesn’t really show, like a average person loosing a pound!

I know it the long run this will be fine and I will get there

It’s just a shame the Hen party’s not next year! I was happy just focusing on the health benefits of loosing weight and when it comes to events the looks side come into play

I will be saving this post (hope notanurse has recovered hers now) as I reminder if nearer going back. Hopefully this time next year I will be nearer to goal.

Sounds like a fun night Tractors! I’m in the bedroom feeling sorry for myself 🤣

I feel exactly the same - but as you say, it is what it is. And even better, we've got plans in place, that we know work and we know others have been in our place, and succeeded.

I heard a brilliant line in a podcast about how you shouldn't strive to be the first or last person to do something - you should aim to be the 50th person, because then you know the system works (it was used in something like the 1st woman on Mars - if you're the 50th, that means there's a precedent there that works).

So chin up, and come along with me and the others - we're not the first, and not the last, but the system (well, our systems) works and we can do this Wink.

Very true tractors

Actually I finally made it through the past threads and it amazing how far everyone’s come and how that helped to motivate me. Maybe someone will think the same reading my post at some point!

I like that, being the 50th, and it’s certainly worked to my advantage with all the advice and support, and I’m voting now for us to all eventually to join each other on a maintaince thread so I can be the 50th person there too! 😉

Well done Fezzes ! Apologies still all hectic here so not keeping up with the thread. My scales have been playing up a bit but I think I’ve put on 2.5lb. Not the best week and ended up 1200 cals over maintenance but the previous couple of weeks cancel that out so i’m Trusting the process and assuming this is water weight still.

Report
fezzesarecool · 09/06/2018 08:13

Thanks Post and interesting to hear how to approach maintenance and to go over and reign it in again.

In my previous thought process it was it’s only a extra (insert junk food of choice)/couple of pounds I’m fine. Although maintenance is a long way off for me I’m thinking about how to balance out a treat, which mfp is great for and a maintenance check weigh so for example 5 pounds over my stable weight would be a red flag.

Also it’s interesting as there’s a weight watching class next to my dd’s dance class today and some of the mums go who look perfect to me. But I’m now understanding they work hard to keep their figure and they keep a control on their weight abs it’s crept up a bit.

I’m really understanding how this is a change for life rather than get to goal and go crazy again.

Sounds silly but it’s really a big revealation to me, but I was very poorly educated about food, health and exercise balance before.

I've had a mini loss of 0.5lb today. Not too bad considering I've had the worst munchies over the last week.

Well done fezze on that amazing loss this week.

Morning let myself down big time last night was so low I ate my body weight in choc feeling awful this morning for it physically and mentally.

My reasons for shifting this weight are:

My health physical and mental
So I can sit I a tight chair and not fear getting stuck/breaking it
So my dh may find me attractive again
So I can wear clothesI want too
So i can enjoy clothesshopping again
So I'm not an embarrassment to my dc
So I can live a long life
So I'm not ashamed to go out
To regain some confidence

Well done all on this week's loses

Well done fezzes for the loss and the mind shift.

I saw the official photos today from my daughters wedding and just feel embarrassed. I look like a small building. I had over 18 months to shift this weight and should have lost it before the wedding. I just look so awful, even though hair, outfit, nails etc were fab, I look so huge. I need this to motivate me but just feel upset.

Morning all. I am loving the reasons that people have been giving for spurring them on to being healthier. So many of them resonate with me. Mine include going on walks with my dd, this has become a huge part of us spending time together. Also not feeling panicked having to stand on a crowded train or tube. Approaching my surgery at the end of this month in the fittest state I have been in for over 10 years.

I've stayed the same this week.

Mumsnet aren't sure what's happened re my posts disappearing but are trying to get them back - really hope that they do.

Fezze - I think I lost over 4 stone before anyone really noticed apart from my DH. I have some awful, awful photos of me and I don't even think that I was at my fattest when they were taken. I was so unhealthy it was scary. I am very lucky that I didn't permanently damage my health. And this thread has helped me so much so thank you everyone!

Have a great weekend all.

Those are great reasons to lose weight and I nicked several for my list on my phone. Also thought of two more:
Regular, light periods as PCOS under control (this has revolutionised my life!)
Much better able to tolerate heat

Fingers crossed for the house viewing, Cagliostro. Moving is incredibly stressful but think of how good it'll be once it's done.

That's lovely that your friend is moving near you, Honey. Much easier to get out walking if you can do it with a friend as you can both chivvy each other on.

Hope things settle down for you soon, Post. It's really tough to keep on top of things when there is a lot of extra stress going on.

You are under huge pressures, Nickname, so please be kind to yourself. Hope you feel better soon.

That's upsetting about the photos, Callme, but it's done now and you can't undo it so please don't be horrible to yourself as some kind of 'punishment'. You can make changes right now and perhaps use the photos and how you feel as a push along the path? It's very easy to become paralysed in shame but that goes nowhere. Plus I'm sure you looked good after the effort you went to. Overweight people can look good too! Despite the ridiculous myth that you can only look good if you are thin.

I hope you get your posts back, Notanurse.

Well done on the losses this week Star

I've completed week 8 of C25K and ran for 28 minutes non-stop three times this week. Seriously looking into Parkrun for a a fortnight today. If I can maintain my current pace from this week then it should be 33-34 minutes for the full 5k so not too much of a jump from 30 minutes next week. I am shocked at myself though not as much as my family!

Reallylosingitthistime · 09/06/2018 12:50

That's a good time anotherotter! It takes me 40 minutes to run 5k so haven't braved Park run yet as want to be more like 36 minutes before I do

I’ve bite the bullet, was very brave and spoke to a consultant about skin tightening at the treatment clinic today. It was so embarrassing having to explain what I wanted and to reveal my horrible bits and she was so lovely and non judgemental.

She recommended that I have 5 sessions of laser lipo and I have to drink 2 litres of water, exercise and have a good diet.

So as I’m already doing these things and I figure I’ve got nothing to lose (apart from money) give it ago. My lovely mum’s paid for this as for my birthday treat. She said as I never spend any money on myself (can’t remember that last time I went to the hairdresser) that she wanted to do this for me as a reward for working hard and hopes it keeps me motivated.

I am currently obese but have lost around 4 stone so far and still have 5 to go. I’m not expecting miracles and but I’m hoping it helps me to tighten up my skin as I continue on my weight lose and helps minimises the excess skin in the long run.

Any inch loss is a bonus but I’m doing this with hopes of helping my skin tighten and adapt.

Very nervous and excited! Wish me luck

Fezze will be interested to see how you get on.

Forced myself to the gym and done some gardening and feeling a bit better. Still mad at my self for binging but was first binge in 2 weeks and was everyday a few months ago So I'm getting better.

If worse come to worse it won’t do anything at all but I don’t mind taking a little gamble and trying.

They will take photos as we go along so if it works I will post pictures and if it doesn’t work I’ve should have at least have a big push to stay on track with exercise and diet wise.

Shame I’m not the 50th person on here to try this out! 😉

Had the best moment today. Long day as took DD all the way to London for first ever trip to theatre. We navigated lots of tubes and hundreds of stairs in both directions, quite hot, big bag to carry, yet I didn't get tired (yay!). On the way back we reached the train station and there were two options - a train leaving in 2 mins or another in half an hour. I asked DD "do you want to run for it?" And she grinned, and we raced through the station holding hands with her yelling "Make way!" We raced onto the train and she turned to me in glee and said "That was brilliant - you turned into running Mummy!"

I've been at this almost a year, and it was totally worth it, right then.

B1rd amazing! What a fantastic thing!

Thank you all so much for the wonderful birthday wishes and messages, they mean a huge amount and I’m very grateful!
I’ve actually had a wonderful few days! Full of lots of friends, family love and fantastic presents Wink and being 30 isn’t quite as awful as I thought it might be!

I’ve got a plan and I’ve got 363 days to get that plan off to a roaring start!

Thank you all again xx

I enjoyed watching DD get caught up in the theatre, more than anything. I also enjoyed the interval ice cream Wink (was otherwise virtuous with packed lunch).

One step at a time, for the coming months Cagliostro? If you look at it all at once, it is overwhelming, but one thing at a time might help - a bit of deliberate tunnel vision maybe? What's worked best for you before, to help you feel in control in challenging times? I love a list, and sometimes find just writing the list and assigning one or two items to each day can help me feel stronger.

Report
Cagliostro · 09/06/2018 22:22

Oh I do love an interval ice cream! They are definitely tastier than regular ice creams.

I have a notebook my mum gave me ready to write lists... I haven’t written in it yet. I keep telling myself I will but I am too scared of writing the wrong thing. I’m hoping once we have viewed the place I will feel a bit better as we can really start planning.

We have actually packed a lot of stuff already and got rid of things etc but such a long way to go. I know it will be worth it. I was sitting in the park, the kids all crawling about on the grass, and suddenly it hit me that in a month we could be doing that in OUR GARDEN (never had a private garden before). Amazing!

I do struggle generally on weekends TBH so that’s probably not helping. DH works, we don’t tend to see friends etc. I’m just a bit wary of my MH slipping at the worst possible time. Must be kind to self. Argh
