Hi Smile

I have a significant birthday coming up in 5 weeks time.

I really really want to lose a stone by then. I'm 10st 8lb now. I have been creeping up from 9 1/2 stone since autumn last year. I'm best at 9 1/2 stone, I feel like "me" and my clothes fit properly.

I've been snacking and being lazy. Buying junk I know I don't need. Telling myself I'm going to start "tomorrow" every day but failing by teatime. I really don't want to have this extra stone on my birthday.

Does anyone else fancy joining me for support/tips swapping/motivation? Apparently, if you've made a written commitment, it's 58% more likely to happen than if you only thought it. Or something. All I know is I want to lose this stone and a few buddies along the way would be great Smile

Anyone in with me?

So much for staying on track ..not !!.dominos pizza ...couldn't resist ! Where is my will power ?? Where is the visualization of a lighter me ?? Aarghh!

SundayGirls · 08/04/2018 23:28

Evening all!
Welcome to R00! You've picked the perfect time to start looking ahead to the summer hols, I'd love to be a few pounds lighter and feeling more confident this summer too!

moreof don't despair over the Dominos! It's good to have a little break now and again. But I am here to encourage you to get back on the pony and ride on, we can do this, even if it takes three steps forward and two back, as long as there's progression in the right direction that's what counts!

Raines how did you get on today? I am also slowing down weightless due to Easter hols (or Eater hols as someone's phone upthread aptly autocorrected it Grin) but as the excess choc runs out, hopefully that will make it easier for getting back on track! Another week of DCs off school so not back into usual routine yet which doesn't help either!

Morning! Another crap day yesterday diet-wise as we are at a hotel for a night. Had special K & veg stir fry at home. Did attempt to keep a lid on the cals for the meal out- ordered a lighter option main and a mini dessert, but also a double g&t and a large glass of red Grin
There will also be breakfast this morning...

Bobbiepin · 09/04/2018 11:43

Having a bit of a shit day so far. Been so good for most of last week, lost .6 of a pound and despite everything I've managed to put it back on. All I want to do is eat. Got loads of sweets and a pack of chocolate digestive in the kitchen and I'm struggling to resist.

Doilooklikeatourist · 09/04/2018 12:56

I’m waddling back , if that’s ok
Had a rubbish few days

After a funeral ( and the wake with delicious sandwiches ) we felt drained on Thursday night , so had loads of wine and chocolate ... and cracked a bit off one of my back teeth

So I could only eat comfort food all weekend 🙁

Have now had a filling replaced , still feel slightly numb , and weigh the same as I did when this thread started !!! Could have been worse I suppose

Anyway , 3 weeks today , we’re setting off on our cruise holiday , and I’m hoping there’ll be 7 less pounds of excess baggage on my tummy !

JessTessMess · 09/04/2018 15:10

Not so great - had horrendous no sleep few days thanks to dc2 discovering how to climb out of their cot and ancient dog being poorly. I’m back on it today though, determined to see the underside of 70 Kg by the end of the week..

BodgingThisMumThing · 09/04/2018 19:23

Hello everyone, previously NotProud but I’ve name changed and now someone has stolen that name Grin
Got stuck at 11 stone 3 for 2 whole weeks, did not budge, weighed this morning and was 11.2! Weirdly my plateau ended when I ate fish and chips for dinner Grin
Think my body just needed a big kick!

catlover99 · 09/04/2018 21:35

I am back. And back to where I began weight-wise Blush. But I am determined to get back on course! Anyway, today was OK - boiled egg and rye bread for breakfast, a wrap with feta and roasted vegetables for lunch, soup for dinner and some fruit for desert. And lots of herbal tea, which is one of my targets this week - to drink more (non-caffeinated and non-alcoholic drinks, that is - I seem to hit my targets easily on the other sorts). Hope everybody is doing well.

I find holidays and having the kids home make it more difficult to keep track of my diet. I am back at work this week, working slightly shorter hours (4 days spread over 5), which is really nice as it means that I can leave early and still get to see a bit of the kids. But I am not finding the time to go running or meal plan. On the other hand, everybody is more relaxed which is nice.

Had a look through my summer clothes yesterday which gave me inspiration and now have one of my favourite dresses hanging on the wardrobe door as a reminder - if I lost about 10lb I would be able to fit into it...

catlover99 · 10/04/2018 21:39

Oh no, I have killed this thread! Please come back...

SundayGirls · 10/04/2018 23:11

Hi catlover! You haven't killed the thread, I'm still here (probably will be the last one standing Smile but at the ready for anyone who still wants to carry on, even if it's dipping in and out as life permits....) I'm the same with the DCs still off school, all our usual routines are out and everything is more relaxed including meal times and snacks.. This is the thing, when I'm in the middle of it I think "what the heck, another creme egg" but then I come to try on a dress for an occasion and in the cold light of day I very much wish I hadn't had the creme eggs Confused I bought a couple of new dresses and a jacket online which came today which I'm quite excited about wearing, so I'm hoping that might inspire me to stick to the healthy eating plan more! I will have to hang those up somewhere prominent too!!

Raines how did you do after the hotel? (all sounds wonderful!)

Bobbie don't give in to "The Hunger" (I'm a fine one to talk Smile) but you have been doing So Well. Maybe have a few of the treats but don't go all out for days, you can get back on track afresh every new day!

Doilook great to see you back! Tooth issue sounds painful, ouch! Glad you got it fixed. You can still do something in 3 weeks, hopefully 7lb but even if it's 4 or 5 or even just maintain, it's still worth having and better than putting on between then and now.

Jess I hear you on the sleep front! I found it really affected my eating when I went through the same with the DCs as I was tired the next day so ate sugar snacks and convenience foods to keep going and because "I deserved it" but then I'd feel annoyed when I'd come to an occasion I wanted to wear something nice on but nothing felt that great... Keep going, it's worth it!

Hi bodging congratulations on your 1lb drop, that's fantastic! How have you got on today?

I'm still 10st 4lb. I'm putting it out there so I can't shy away from it or pretend it's not the case, even though I'm disappointed I haven't got to my original goal BUT BUT BUT I've decided a more realistic target from here is 9st 13lb so 5lb off in the next two weeks, a total of 9lb. Yes I'm annoyed with myself I won't have got to my 14lb target but if I can do 9lb then it's better than nothing.

I had some chocolate digestive but gonna start fresh today. It's just so hard and I'm really struggling to exercise (or get out of bed) without pain. Got a doctors appointment next week so hoping that'll help. I'm feeding DD now but will assess the damage after.

MrsTylerJoseph · 11/04/2018 06:32

I had a bad day yesterday food wise, went down the gym and ran 5k out of guilt afterwards.

Currently marking exam papers at home for the next couple of weeks and it’s too easy to give in to temptation.....would rather be at work away from the corner shop!

Narkle · 11/04/2018 07:09

Glad to see I'm not the only one struggling. I'm probably back to where I started, if not more - my face is definitely more filled-out than it was at the beginning of the holidays and diet-wise, I can't wait for work to start again.

My husband doesn't help. If I make something remotely low-cal and healthy for lunch he'll complain by dinner time that he needs something fattening. He's always stayed the same weight, so his body goes into panic mode when he loses 5lb and he will stuff his face with food all the time. Same thing when he exercises.

So I'm basically surrounded by constant temptation and I have to cook something unhealthy at least every other day. I can't make soups as he won't eat them and he suggests a take-away once a week. He knows how much I want to lose weight and when we got together I was 3st lighter than now; it's currently frustrating the hell out of me, hence the rant, sorry.

The 30-40min cardio a day really barely scrape the surface to make up for the food I consume under peer pressure.

I urgently need to work on my portion sizes and alcohol consumption, though, as they are two areas I can make a big difference with. So I won't be buying any gin this week and just drink what I have left over the weekend, stopping with the gin weekdays today and resort back to the lovely apple crumble tea.

Portion sizes are the trickier bit.

Pythone · 11/04/2018 07:38

Morning everyone! I had my "weekend off" when my friend came to visit, and then yesterday my little dog was injured (he's ok, thank goodness - going back to the vet today to be checked again) so I was too worried to care about my diet!

@SundayGirls: re fitting in more protein - this is an example of a good day (I eat weirdly, just a series of snacks rather than defined meals):

  • Coffee
  • Coconut chicken fillets with a bit of mayo (cold out of the fridge)
  • Porridge with blueberries and walnuts
  • Greek yogurt with raspberries
  • Figs
  • Prawn cocktail (cold out of the fridge)
  • Carrots and houmous
  • Ham and cheese sandwich (trying to limit bread/potatoes/pasta to once per day)

Pros: easy, doesn't feel too much like "being on a diet" because chicken, prawns, etc. are super filling, I have more energy

Cons: more expensive, need to go to the shop constantly as most things are perishable

Back on the wagon again today! My goal is to be under 1300 calories.

moreofme · 11/04/2018 08:55

I'm still here also.No further changes ..2 days ago was a wghoper of a 2000 calories day but yesterday was more sane.I also find I'm running out of stuff like salad leaves etc. And trying to assemble a multicooured salad is becoming a bit of a pain although I love the end result!Yesterday I convinced my OH to make it.
I too struggle with having to cook for my family which is usually more substantial food than what I need.
I tried on a dress and trousers ordered online..what shock.I have lots to lose before I feel comfortable!

Ruggles · 11/04/2018 09:07

Hello, hello. Can I join you too? I've just read the whole thread and so much of what you all say / do resonates with me. It's such a lovely thread.

I have put on a stone since the autumn AngryBlushAngry - I blame a winter of colds, sinus and chest infections - I feel as if I've been ill all winter. I do well during the day, but snack from late afternoon. Driving is a real thing for me - there is a lot of swinging into petrol stations...

Had a course of antibiotics a few weeks ago and some mild steroids and feeling back to health. Now need to loose 22lb!!! I weigh 150lb and would like to weigh 128. Nothing fits and I feel like a heffalump. My focus today is a morning fast, no snacks and 10,000 steps.

catlover99 · 11/04/2018 20:11

Good to see you all, and relieved that I did not kill the thread! I think it is really important to come back and try again even when you have set-backs, and feel really encouraged by everybody here. It is so tempting for me to slink off in shame.

SundayGirl holidays really are hard diet-wise, I have two teenagers and they seem to be eating all the time, feels like all I do is cook. And it is impossible to remove snacks from the house as there would be open rebellion. On top of that my daughter takes medication long-term, and it is unfortunately an appetite suppressant, and she is a bit underweight as a result, so we spend a lot of time making sure to cook calorie-rich meals that she likes, which are probably exactly the sort of meal I should be avoiding. But good on you for setting a new target which is more realistic at this point - better to achieve that and carry on rather than just feeling despondent because you don't reach your first target.

Hanging out some nice clothes as inspiration is good, although I have to warn you that my daughter yesterday saw one of the other items I had hung up (not the dress, luckily, as she only wears trousers), but a nice jacket, and decided it would look better on her, and has been wearing it since. And it does look better on her, so I think that is now gone!

Narkle that is so frustrating, and your DH is not being very helpful. Is there any compromise you could reach? Could your DH not find a way of topping up whatever you make? For example, if you make a salad, could he add a steak/pizza and some oven chips or something so that he is full too? Or have a baked potato with butter and cheese on the side?

I have set my targets very low this week to avoid disappointment: drinking lots of herbal teas, and trying to avoid snacking, and having a nice few days with the kids (as much as you can with moody teens).

MrsTyler I hope you have got through the pile of marking. My DH eats (and drinks) the cupboards bare when he has lots of marking, so I recognise the difficulties!

SundayGirls · 11/04/2018 21:19

Evening all! Welcome to Ruggles! I know what you mean about driving and petrol stations, I used to regularly raid the chocolate stand when I did a lot of driving for work. Also hopefully now warmer weather is on the horizons you will be able to get over your illnesses. How have you got on with your daily targets today?

Bobbie Sorry to hear you've been in pain. Is it a sports injury? Hope you've had a better day today x

MrsTyler 5k, wow that's fantastic! Star

Narkle I gave up on trying to eat exactly the same food as DH a long time ago - he eats bigger portions and of more caloric content, he wants meat and fish and loads of potatoes etc (I mean I would too except when I'm trying to lose weight, then I make different choices!) so I tend to batch cook stuff for him and then I eat whatever I want that fits in with my diet plan. Usually picky stuff or veggie versions of stews etc which I can also batch cook.

Pythone glad your DDog is better! I also eat more snack versions of meals than fully cooked meals every day so your protein info was very helpful. I see protein as being mainly meat based and I don't really eat meat, so it was good to see things like carrot & hummus - I don't think I've thought of them as being protein based before, good to know!

Moreof even though you had a 2000 calories day, every day is a new time to start afresh. For me what worked in the past was the commitment to keep going, even with the ups and downs of trying to stay on the healthy eating path and the curveballs of things like Easter and birthdays and social events. Keep going Flowers

Catlover no need for anyone to slink off in shame on this thread, not on my watch Grin No matter what kind of a day or week it's been or if it's all gone to pot for 1, 2, 3 or more days there's always the means to start again and I'll be here to support anyone who wants it Smile
Luckily my DCs are too young and small to "borrow" my clothes but I guess it's a matter of time, eek! And on the plus side, I guess the fact your DD loves what you chose is pretty cool. Your style must be down with the kids! Grin

Do you know, I've actually had A Good Day today. I haven't snacked, I feel positive, I like my new clothes and tentatively I think I might have lost a pound for the morning if only tonight I don't eat any snacks before bed! I am definitely heading to bed early tonight, I need the sleep but also if I'm in bed I can't be snacking in the kitchen at the same time (I hope) Smile I think readjusting my goal to something more realistic in the time I've got, has made losing a few more pounds seem more achievable.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one struggling. I'm close to downloading MFP and get on the calorie counting properly. @narkle i feel your DH pain, I could never have a salad for dinner (I can hear DH singing "You don't make friends with salad) so I'm sort of stuck having what he is having too.

@sundaygirls I'm afraid not, I wish it was! I got sciatica when I was pregnant and was assured that it would go once baby was born. She's now 5 months and its as bad as ever. 30 day shred is sitting on the sofa, pretty much unused. It's frustrating because I used to run, do yoga and weight lift as a stress deliver and now I'm struggling to do that, It's really dragging me down.

Bobbiepin · 11/04/2018 21:37

Eugh, stress reliever

catlover99 · 11/04/2018 21:51

Sunday I love the idea that I am down there with the kids style-wise Grin, my kids would find the very thought of it hilarious! I have got to the point where I am pretty much at the bottom of the family foodchain in terms of clothes, I get the hand-you-downs from DS that are rejected by DD. I have managed to get some decent trainers and hoodies that way I would have never bought for myself. The clothes my DD 'borrows' tend to be very old ones that I had in my late teens and 20s, but still love, and probably unrealistically hang on to because I am deluded enough to think that wearing them would make me young again Grin! The jacket she took and has been wearing all day was given to me by my aunt who wore it in the 50s/60s, so it is very retro. My DD just likes odd stuff, she is a bit weird that way.

Anyway, hope you get a good night's sleep!

Ruggles · 12/04/2018 07:10

Catlover – you didn’t kill the thread – I really appreciated your posts that you had struggled and ‘got back on the boat’. You really encouraged me as it’s the hardest thing to get motivated after a blip. I suppose life is full of blips, I just wished I handled them better!!

SundayGirls – my DH is the same and we tend to eat the same protein bit and then I add lots of things (carbs) for him and the kids. Louise Parker’s book has a couple of pages of sides which bulk up a meal. I’ll try and add a photo later. Well done with your no-snacking!

Bobbiepin – keep going, today is another fresh start and if you can, just keep on, keeping on.

I did my daily targets! Morning fast, no snacks and just managed my 10,000 before bed..

Today I driving DS to a course in London, so long day of temptation, but commited to the same as yesterday – morning fast, a long walk along the river and no snacking

Pythone · 12/04/2018 08:56

@SundayGirl - I've had a look through my MyFitnessPal diary, and the non-meat things I've eaten with the most protein are:

  • Prawns and tuna (do you eat fish?)
  • Nuts
  • Greek yogurt
  • Cheese
  • Houmous (I guess from the chickpeas?)
