So, winter has us in its icy grasp as March begins but by the end of the month we will be lighter, warmer and, erm, slenderer!

I don't find pasta remotely filling and end up eating huge quantities of it so if I have it I make myself eat a lot of side salad/veg first or I can literally eat enough for 3 Blush

QuimReaper · 21/03/2018 09:22

"The Bloat of St Patrick" Grin That is brilliant, he'd be proud!

Feez I think we all need to chill out and not think about it from time to time. It's not a real holiday if you're stressing about food. Definitely just enjoy it and deal with it when you get back I say - you know how to lose weight, it's annoying to backslide whilst you're still working towards a goal, but once you reach the goal you'll want to be allowed to gain a few Lindas here and there and lose them again, so there's no point in putting life on hold until then.

That's really why I think of pasta as a treat lasty - it feels sort of "empty" in the way you can keep eating it, and the way it makes you feel uncomfortably bloated, but then it all seems to sort of evaporate and leave you hungry again. It can definitely be filling and fine if you work it into your diet sensibly, but in my case it's the definition of "empty calories".

lastqueenofscotland · 21/03/2018 09:25

Quim
Yeh I agree it's become a bit of a treat meal I find gnocchi goes with all the same sauces and is waaaay more filling

MajestyRoyal · 21/03/2018 10:03

2 whole Linda's banished since Monday! I know that it was probably water weight but it's still nice to see the number decreasing on the scales Smile

3 more Linda's and I'm getting my hair done as a reward, my roots are down to my ankles and I look like a scarecrow Blush

QuimReaper · 21/03/2018 10:04

2 Lindas in 2 days! Wow!

Feezles · 21/03/2018 10:31

I LOVE gnocchi - I was really surprised to discover it is relatively low calorie (for a filling carb, that is - not compared to cucumber, obviously!), if you buy the right brand.

QuimReaper · 21/03/2018 12:03

Oooh is it Feez? It feels so indulgent and stodgy I never even thought to check!

Ofthread · 21/03/2018 12:18

Homemade gnocchi fried in a little olive oil, covered in parmesan, omg. [Gets banished from thread.]

QuimReaper · 21/03/2018 12:23

Ofthread woah, you make your own gnocchi? I thought it was a right faff?

I do mine in garlic butter. YUM.

Ofthread · 21/03/2018 12:29

Yes, it's really easy to do, especially if you have a potato ricer (which I don't have, but feel like ordering after this). Potato, flour, egg, salt. Form dough, roll into snake and cut.

Not2bObvious · 21/03/2018 14:32

I think you’re mixing me and feezles up quim (unless feezles is going on hols too and is a greedy guzzler who can’t be trusted around food, drink or anything really😂)
I’m in the zone, gym done, 10,000 steps+ done, food en pointe so far.
I thought I’d like gnocchi, I didn’t - v disappointed as a veggie friend swore it was lush.

lastqueenofscotland · 21/03/2018 16:11

Gnocchi is lovely but grim if cooked badly

Feezles · 21/03/2018 18:09

Well, I have this one: www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Giovanni-Rana-Gnocchi/69704011

Everyone will have their own definition of low calories, but It is 133 cals per 100g, so 332 for half the bag - and that is a HUGE portion, you could very easily have less if you are less greedy than me.

Obviously you need to add a sauce, but if you make it a veg or tomato based one, it's a great meal.

Not - I am indeed also off on holiday, but not for 3 weeks yet.

Not2bObvious · 21/03/2018 19:01

Oops sorry quim & feezles, I missed your post about your holiday, I’m so me me me! My top tip for holidays, if you can call it that, is get a big walk/run in the morning and then keep as active as possible throughout the day. I usually start most days with a decent run then I love walking so I happily potter back/forth around the resort. I was hitting 15,000-20,000 a day last break which I guess is how I only gained 4lb, of which only 2lb was real I reckon. I ate what I liked but I made a rule no eating between meals or bags of crisps with wine in the evening - the main culprit on previous holiday gains.
I’m probably making holidays sound like torture😬

QuimReaper · 21/03/2018 21:51

Not the Slenderistas are just such jetsetters! Grin

I must say, running on holiday does sound like madness, but is definitely sensible in terms of weight management. I think I'll put it on my "ambitions for my thirties" list.

Feez that's the stuff I use too! DH and I definitely get through a bag between us though Blush I normally actually just do it for him as a carb side on a weekday meal, but I make a FAB creamy chicken gnocchi bake with a bag of it!

Why oh why do I watch The Great British Bake Off on fast days?!

Feezles · 21/03/2018 22:12

Oh, we always eat the whole bag too, Quim!

I do this: www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7192/gnocchi-and-tomato-bake

DH and I eat the full quantity between us, and I put in extra mozzarella. It's a good for when I need a huge plate of carby, melted cheesey goodness, but it still only comes to 644 cals per portion, which still works well for for me on 1700 cals per day.

Not2bObvious · 22/03/2018 06:20

You guys are making me want to try gnocchi again, especially seeing that recipe feezles! Mid week madness broke through I’m afraid but thankfully my little glitch (am extra 800 cals I reckon) didn’t affect my bloatage. I might have a chance of breaking even with my average but to be fair I had a smashing weekend just gone, so sometimes you gotta pay the price!
Ahh quim, you must be a baby! This running lark is middle aged madness in my case😉

QuimReaper · 22/03/2018 11:13

I am most definitely a baby! I'm holding out for running to suddenly appeal to me when I grow up Grin

I'm in a funk today. DH told me he was going away for the Easter weekend and had now told me his friend's coming here instead - I was so looking forward to having the living room to myself Sad

And it's the anniversary of my Dad's death today.

Solo dinner tonight though, so naturally, scrambled eggs and mushrooms to look forward to this evening!

TVHubbyClaire · 22/03/2018 12:49

Quim Flowers for you. Hope you are ok today...

12st 3 today so not moving in the direction I hoped to be. Dam hot cross buns.....strangely I feel a bit slimmer this week. I'm putting it down to heavier muscles in my legs with all my walking and tennis classes....Hmm

Likely to be a high calorie weekend this week so will try and walk as much as possible, I seem to have totally forgotten about running...Smile

BitOutOfPractice · 22/03/2018 13:07

Right I am BACK. 10 days of hedonism in the sun with a fellow Slenderista and I feel as fat as a tunky pig.

Now I have hit the gym and am counting calories like a good'un and need to continue that over the next few (busy) weeks.

Tell me I can do this Sad

MajestyRoyal · 22/03/2018 13:41

I weighed this morning and was down 1.2 pounds. That's 3.2 since Monday. What is my body doing? I can't be having a whoosh after being bad and eating too much over the weekend can I?

Quim Thanks

Feezles · 22/03/2018 13:52

I’d take the win, Maj - just focus on keeping it off!

Welcome back, Boop! You timed that well, missing out on the mini-beast.

Wishing you all the best, Quim Flowers Kick DH and his mate out to the pub and reclaim your lounge! I hope you enjoy your eggs.

Sadly I still can’t run, due to my stupid, bastard achilles, but I’m being a good girl with my exercises and hoping to start c25k (because after 18 months out, I’m a beginner again!) in May. I have to be honest though – even when I was super-fit and thin (which once upon a time, I was), there is NO way I would have run on holiday! We’ll be doing tons of walking though – we’re going to West Wales, and I’m looking forward to exploring a bit more of the coastal path.

I was slightly up again today, 12st 7.3. That’s still 2lb down on this time last week though, so I am NOT complaining! Tomorrow will be a high cal day (friend coming for dinner, so although I have planned a low cal dinner, there will be lots of wine!), but the rest of the weekend should be pretty good.

slightlysoreboobs · 22/03/2018 15:37

Flowers quim
