So, winter has us in its icy grasp as March begins but by the end of the month we will be lighter, warmer and, erm, slenderer!

Some great losses over the last few days..well done evrybody Smile

I'm still around 12st 2 which is not bad for me on a Monday. Hopefully I can be good this week and maybe see another Linda or two go. I have some busy social weekends coming up so Mon - fri will have to be good....Hmm

I'm quite lucky in that I don't really like pasta....makes me feel heavy where strangely wine doesnt....who knew??

fishonabicycle · 19/03/2018 15:08

I have 50 grams of pasta or rice (uncooked weight).

Mary1935 · 19/03/2018 15:22

Thanks all for the pasta input - any tips on constipation - since I've upped my veg intake I'm having problems going - I'm drinking at least one litre of water and then cups of tea - I'm having prunes - I open my bowels eventually - but it's uncomfortable. Any tips greatly received. Thanks a lot.

Ofthread · 19/03/2018 15:31

I have weighed in today at 10 stone 1. That's 3 pounds off in March so far! Woo! Go me! etc.

Constipation, don't know much Mary. I know prunes can be quite upsetting for the system if you are prone to a bit of IBS etc. A strong coffee can help. Ripe banana, def. not green, that does the opposite. Porridge is good for 'soluble fibre' whatever that is. Hopefully someone who knows more will be along shortly.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/03/2018 17:23

Hello. I can't even look at you lot in the eye Sad

Had a FANTASTIC holiday. If laughing made you lose weight I'd be stick thin

Well done on all the losses guys. I weighed at the gym on st.patricks day ( yes I went to the gym paddy's day and I live in Ireland!) and I was 8st 13 lbs....yay!

Yesterday was a carbfest which started in Costa and ended with all the crisps. So weighed half an hour ago after my gym session and back up to 9st on the dot again.

I'm having a new start today diet wise. I weighed in at 10 10.8 this morning. I've been bouncing around the same weight since the week before Christmas. I got down to 10 7 in mid-feb but didn't stay there long.

I've decided if I want to reach 10 3 by the summer I will need to get back into the right frame of mind. I've looked back at mfp / fitbit stats from last autumn and it's really obvious what works. I just need the will power.

So today I've had:

Porridge with berries
Soup and toast
Chicken with wholewheat pasta
An apple and a pear

14k steps including a very hilly walk.

I need to drink more water tomorrow.

If i could do it in the autumn I should be able to do it now shouldn't I?

MajestyRoyal · 19/03/2018 20:59

And the grand calorie total has been, DUN DUN DUUUUUNNNN

1362 Grin

I worked out that my BMR is around 1650.

I have walked a lot today and done general cleaning and tidying. I could do with drinking a bit more but I have a lovely new water bottle to help with that, and I ordered some food scales online. They should be here in the next couple of days.

Not2bObvious · 19/03/2018 22:06

I like the new username kick, easier to abbreviate! Good luck with getting pass a stall, my own was down to rubbish behaviour over weekends and overdoing the exercise side so I was ridiculously hungry. I’m getting better at balancd

QuimReaper · 19/03/2018 23:18

Welcome back BOOP you jet setter you! How was it??

Love the new look Kick, suits you Grin Your plan sounds eminently sensible and sustainable, it'll become second nature again in no time.

Maj cor, that's a high BMR - you don't mean TDEE?

TV 12.2 on a Monday is brilliant, I bet you're flirting with the 11s after a few good days on the trot!

QuimReaper · 19/03/2018 23:23

Smashed it todaySmile 21K steps and a very successful fast. Feel really sleepy after a poor nights sleep so I'm hoping to pass out soon and have an epic catchup! Need to up the water tomorrow, I've been rubbish on that for a while now.

I'm afraid I don't have much to offer constipation wise either - a green smoothie is my go-to suggestion, definitely keep the water up!

Feezles · 20/03/2018 06:48

I'm bemused yet delighted to have weighed in this morning at 12st 6.3! I didn't even do a bathroom victory dance, I was so shocked. I appear to be having a woosh!

There's bound to be some bounce back later this week (I can't possibly really have lost 3.5lb in a week, can I?) but I'm a very happy bunny this morning.

Welcome back Boop! And Kick, lurking under the false moustache and sunglassesSmile

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 20/03/2018 07:00

Wow feezles that's great! I love a whoosh!

Sounds like everyone needs to drink more water. I'm having to force myself in this cold weather but I'm going to try hot water instead today. I actually really enjoy it instead of the constant supply of tea at work. I just never think to have it.

Not2bObvious · 20/03/2018 07:02

That’s super feezles, that’s one nice sight for a Tuesday morning! Whether it sticks or not this week, it’s a new low and it’ll become your new average very soon if you keep going the way you have. I on the other hand am living in the land of gains due to a long weekend filled with food & drink. My NSV was my company saying I looked like I’d lost weight (well I had, I just keep regaining it!)
Had a lovely weekend though, going to be a slow week back to normal, need to be positive! It will go, and I’ve 9 days until my break away to whoosh it on its way. 1700 a day, 15k steps, 2.5 litres of water. It can and will be done😬

Therealjudgejudy · 20/03/2018 09:02

Awesome name change @kick Grin.

For those of you that have issues drinking more water... what I do Monday through to Friday is first thing in the morning I make a 1.5 litre jug of lemon water and have it drank by evening time. It cleanses your system and also helps keep you full. That added with the water I drink at work through out the morning and at the gym means I get my water in and helps keep the snacking at bay when I get home. Hope that might help some.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 20/03/2018 09:12

Mary it's probably just your body adjusting to the new diet. It sounds like you are doing all the right things (plenty of fruit and veg, lots of fluids, keeping active through the day) so it's most likely just a matter of waiting for things to settle.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday Boop!

Well done on the loss Ofthread!

Feezles that's a brilliant whoosh!

Feezles · 20/03/2018 10:05

I struggle to drink plain water in any quantity, so I cheat and have sugar-free squash instead. It's working for me so far! I also LOVE hot vimto, but not sure whether I fancy the sugar free one so I've left it alone for now.

QuimReaper · 20/03/2018 10:34

WOW Feezles that's terrific, well done! Such an awesome feeling!

Good advice judy but I would just add a word of warning that lemon water can really erode your tooth enamel, so worth considering drinking it through a straw.

MajestyRoyal · 20/03/2018 14:28

I have found out that 50g of pasta makes me full. The serving suggestion was 100g in the pack but I halved that today and made it with half a can of tuna and a table spoon of low calorie mayo. It was actually very nice to not have that overly full bloated feeling after eating pasta. The portion was a tiny bit bigger than my fist, and had just 278 calories Smile

Congrats to feezles on the great big whoosh!!

There are lots of fruit water recipes to be found online. Chopped strawberries, cucumber and mint is a personal favourite of mine. You can get special bottles for it too.

Not2bObvious · 21/03/2018 06:41

Morning all. I’m all confused with the days, having a random BH threw me off, in more ways than one. Waiting to get up and weigh in, all the rich food over the weekend has completely stuffed my system up, feel bunged up & bloated😩 Managed to hit calories, exercise and water goals yesterday, now just need to repeat that for another 8 days before my holiday. Of course it’s going to be 3 months of hard work obliterated by 6 days of holidays but it’ll just be a temporary blip, when I get home I’ve about 10-11 weeks to my summer holidays, might be closer to my healthy Bmi weight - around a stone from where I am now.
How’s everyone else doing?

QuimReaper · 21/03/2018 06:59

Oh Not are you in Ireland? I didn't realise! I know I always preach this and never practice it but holiday weight'll be an easy-on easy-off if you put your mind to it. After being a bit shit since Christmas I've finally focused, and lost about 2 kilos in 4 weeks (unimpressive for some, fucking miraculous for me!) and I'm sure it wouldn't have come off so easily if it'd been on longer. I didn't even lose that quickly the first time round, and since I was heavier then, you'd think it would've come off more easily. I don't think my body was as committed to hanging onto it, and a lot of it was bloat which I just wasn't giving a chance to go away,

Maj that's the thing about pasta, you can just keep shovelling it in and it's impossible to know what a reasonable portion is! I remember a couple of years ago there was a thread on here about the correct portion of pasta being about a handful, and hundreds of aghast MNers. I'd easily put away 150, 200g of pasta when I used to eat it, as you say it can make you uncomfortably full but somehow you can really overeat on it. Funny, because when you go to a naice restaurant the pasta portions are generally quite slight, but I always feel perfectly satisfied by them.

Feezles · 21/03/2018 07:32

Shovelling in pasta is one of my favourite thingsBlush. Cutting down my portion is a real challenge for me but going well so far.

I was 0.5 up today, which is still a super low weight for me so I'm really happy.

I have some challenges ahead too - friends coming for dinner this weekend, my parents visiting at Easter and a rare child free day out with DH, and that's before our holiday with the PIL in mid April. I generally subscribe to the easy-on-easy-off theory too, Quim - and I'll have plenty of opportunity to test it soon!

I'm not totally sure how to approach my holiday diet-wise yet. At the moment, I'm thinking I want (need!) to tune out and relax so I don't think I'll calorie count and I want to enjoy myself stress free so I'll eat and drink what I want. That means accepting that I'll put some weight back on (temporarily) and probably try to limit the damage by just not eating when I'm not hungry.

Not2bObvious · 21/03/2018 07:32

Yep quim I’m in Ireland - so I’m carrying the bloat of St Patrick😂 I’m 2lb up on Friday and my average has shot way up, but I know I’ll get it down with a bit of focus. You’re right on the holiday weight - the last one I went on I only gained around 4lb (I’ve done 10lb holiday gain numerous times) but it was so close to Christmas I only shifted it and regained it again. I’m in a much better frame of mind these days anyway so I should manage to control it. It’s that devil on my shoulder when I see over 4lb on after a weekend, stupid stupid diet brain. Need to snap out of it.
