Welcome to the new Valentine's edition of the best thread on MN™ where we encourage and support each other to lose 7lbs in a month (though that happens so rarely maybe we need to change our USP!)

Morning,
10.2 so another lb down, even with pancakes! No more refined sugar till easter for me either.... I will allow fruit, but nit dried, so HCBs are out for the time being Sad

Happy Valentines day slenderistas, anyone got anything super romantic planned for tonight? It is also Ash Wednesday, day of fasting and abstinance (for those who practice), I know which is more likely for me today at any rate Grin

I grew up Catholic and would still regard myself as religous/practicing, I find it so interesting that so many of the big world religions advocate fasting at various points in the year. I think the reason the lentan fast was so important in years gone by because this time of year there would have been very little to eat, and it is much easier to feel not miserable about another plate of boiled turnips if you think it serves a higher purpose.... possibly who knows. I am not planning in doing the saxon peasant diet at any rate!

KeiraTwiceKnightley · 14/02/2018 07:23

So I'm down to 11.7.6 this morning. At last a pound and a half has left me. It's been tough... hoping it may be the start of a trend.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/02/2018 08:00

I'm slightly up this morning but I am confident it's not real. I've been so so good this week and I feel thinner IYKWIM

WE are having a romantic dinner tonight. BF is doing starter and main, I'm doing dessert. There will be fizz and general smoochiness.

Happy valentine's y'all! I'm thinking about giving up sugar for Lent ... I'm with hairspray babe on the love of dried fruit. Christmas cake and mince pies are my nemesis. Thank God they aren't around too long.

Hoolahoophop · 14/02/2018 10:17

I forgot its Valentine's, DH has given me a card, I better grab him one while I'm out. Nothing planned here, we should do something, feel a bit disconnected at the moment as we are having a bit of a rough time with dc and not giving each other much time. Maybe I'll try to do something romantic tonight.

On a plus I'm another lb down today, lightest since August when I got my Fitbit with the intention of loosing......i gained a ton. Blush

HairsprayBabe · 14/02/2018 10:41

fish yes you can join my dried fruit club it is more fun than it sounds

I really love those little chewy dried strawberries, Holland and Barrett have a dried fruit pick and mix which is as expensive as it is deadly!

QuimReaper · 14/02/2018 11:21

Feezles a mission to rid your diet of dislikes is such a good idea! There isn't much I dislike to be honest, but it'd be a great idea for DH. He's always making these weird unmotivated pronouncements about things he dislikes. For instance, in spite of loving avocados, he used to claim to detest guacamole Confused Now he claims he only likes my guacamole (and never leaves me enough on Fajita night, however much I make). I'll grant him that that whipped avocado stuff you get in supermarkets is vile, but honestly, what a homebody to have avoided it until he was in his thirties. Also he's decided to go milk-free for a few weeks to try and establish if that's the cause of his toxic guts digestion problems, and I was outlining all the milk alternatives for him. He agreed to try oat milk but declared "No, I would HATE almond milk, hate hate HATE it". He doesn't hate almonds to the best of my knowledge. Baffling.

QuimReaper · 14/02/2018 11:27

I'm another 500g up this morning. It's only Wednesday so that's probably normal, if this were a Golden Week it probably means I'd have a STS by Friday morning, but midweek plans make it very difficult to gauge.

DH and I are double Valentine's Dating tonight with our friends, we're doing an Escape Room Grin

HairsprayBabe · 14/02/2018 11:41

oooh that is so cute Quim we did one once, they are great fun!

lastqueenofscotland · 14/02/2018 11:52

I'm spending Valentine's Day sort of single for the first time since my teens Shock

Ofthread · 14/02/2018 12:41

Snap Queen

Feezles · 14/02/2018 14:05

Quim, I started about 10 years ago, and it's been great. To be fair, I was never what you would call a fussy eater, but there were a few major things I just didn't eat and it started to annoy me, because I couldn't remember ever even trying a lot of them. So far, I have added to my diet:

Tomatoes
Cheese
Olives
Jam
Dried fruit
Sponge cake (this one may have been a bit of a tactical error....)
Custard (that one too)

Sadly, though, I have been defeated by coffee and aniseed. I have tried to hard, but it is not to be.

Speaking of hard - today, not only is there an artisan food market outside the office, which includes a stall selling nutella doughnuts, but work has given us all a chocolate for valentine's day, and not one but two people in my team have brought in cake for their birthday! But I am staying strong!

Feezles · 14/02/2018 14:08

LastQueen and Ofthread - I was single for 10 years before I met DH. I used to hate Valentines day. I still won't do anything especially romantic to mark it, even now, I really dislike it.

Not2bObvious · 14/02/2018 14:32

Day 1 of no chocolate or crisps and I had to make a load of choc chip cookies for a play date - really hard not to forget and scarf one. I got my valentines chocs last night & snaffled a few plus crisps to get it out of my system. Despite all the crap salty/sugary stuff I’m down another bit this morning - go figure. Cooked a Thai for tonight’s meal which I’m having bubbles with, that’s my treat for the day. The children made lovely gifts so v happy😬

BitOutOfPractice · 14/02/2018 16:08

I'm just making dessert for tonight's romantic dinner. Had to try one of the tuile (sp?) biscuits. Quality control you know. Oh it was so nice. I'm hopeless at baking so I'm so proud of myself. DP will be amazed.

Awww, I’ve been told by the kids I have to be allowed chocolate today since they bought me some. Well I know when I’m bet, so had a choc chip cookie and a handmade chocolate, if you get a free pass you’d be a fool not to.
Look out GBBO, boops in town😉

ponygirlcurtis · 14/02/2018 17:09

Flowers keepon. Glad you are feeling a little better. That website really made a lot of sense to me too, glad it is helping you too. Be kind to yourself and keep posting.

My only Valentines card is from my son, that will do me. 😊 Enjoy your dinner BOOP, it sounds lovely.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/02/2018 17:09

Always here to listen and sympathise and advise KOKO Thanks

That dinner sounds just right, especially with the horrible grey weather. I hope you enjoy it

Flowers koko its awful when the will to carry on isn't there but glad you're feeling brighter

Kikisdeliveries · 14/02/2018 19:01

I'm officially declaring February as the worst month on the calendar. DS2 said the same a couple of weeks ago and I was all - "oh but at least there's a promise of spring yada yada" but after a couple of weeks back pain then foot pain, zero energy and generally feeling like crap I'm totally in agreement with him!

We had pancakes a day late so I'm full of happy carbs right now. Y'know, until I crash. We don't do valentines

Kikisdeliveries · 14/02/2018 19:02

Koko Feb's been an absolute write off for me. I will end the month heavier than I started. Meh.

TheDonald · 14/02/2018 19:56

Hi all. Happy Valentine's to those who acknowledge it. And happy Wednesday to the rest of us. Flowers

First day of no sugar has gone great. I'm on 1100 cals according to mfp (and I've been very honest!) I'm quite hungry now but I'll have a peppermint tea and then clean my teeth and have an early night.

My steps total is appalling as it has been all month thanks to a selection of injuries and ailments that are operating a rota to prevent me doing any exercise!

I reeeeeaaally miss running. Its such a massive part of my routine and so essensial to my mental and physical health and social life. I'm really hoping this is a short term problem.

I saw the doctor but she spent the entire appointment ruling out a blood clot and then just said "it's probably muscular." I might have to shell out more money to see a physio again.

TheDonald · 14/02/2018 19:58

Also... start weight today was 10 10.6. Target for Good Friday is 10 3. Halo

Ofthread · 14/02/2018 20:46

I wonder how GPs are coping with the rise in people doing sport/yoga etc? There are some horrific yoga injuries believe it or not...idle wondering. I’ve been on the pasta today, 100g dry. Some packets only give the cooked weight, who the hell is going to weigh it cooked? Also, what if it’s al dente? Hmmmm

I’m thinking of making some protein flapjacks, is that even possible?

Spinning is good for those with injuries, also quite good for the endorphins.
