Welcome to the new Valentine's edition of the best thread on MN™ where we encourage and support each other to lose 7lbs in a month (though that happens so rarely maybe we need to change our USP!)

Koko make sure you're measuring as well as weighing.

When I first made a major change to my unhealthy lifestyle 15 yrs ago and changed my hobbies from drinking and eating kebabs to running I only lost a bit over a stone but I went from an optimistic size 16 to a size 10.

Previously I had a flabby tummy and spindly arms and legs. My legs especially are really muscly now.

Not2bObvious · 10/02/2018 12:58

keep few things to check:

  1. Are you including exercise calories in what you eat, eating earned gym cals as they can be vastly overrated
  2. Are you weighing your food or guesstimating, are you tracking every bite/lick/taste in Mfp or similar
  3. Are you noticing any difference in your clothes?
  4. Have you tried replacing the battery in your scales or weighed on a different scales
  5. Are you drinking at least 2 litres of water each day
  6. Are you active outside of the 3 gym sessions. I did a shocker of a workout this morning for an hour, according to my fitbit I burned around 300 calories - not even enough for a decent sandwich!
  7. Are you close to goal weight, could it be you don’t have much to lose or are you particularly petite, under 5 foot
  8. Have honestly stuck to 1270 for 21 days

If you can answer all them positively, and confirm there’s really no change maybe you should get your bloods done

BitOutOfPractice · 10/02/2018 13:32

KOKO as a fellow plateau-er you have my sympathies. I'd say keep sticking with it and it'll whoosh eventually. Sometimes our bodies don't want to cooperate for a few weeks.

Managed something resembling a good Friday despite a fair amount of beer.
Not feeling too snazzy this morning

Therealjudgejudy · 10/02/2018 17:36

Happy to report that i found my cauliflower rice in Aldi on Thursday. I also got some frozen broccoli rice in tesco yesterday. Its not as nice though.

I actually went to the gym twice yesterday as I was off work. Cardio and weights in the am and swimming in the evening. Rest day today and I plan to have a trio bar with my coffee after my dinner of salmon, cauli rice and peas. Yum Smile.

BitOutOfPractice · 10/02/2018 18:33

JudgeJudy I could've warned you about the broccoli rice. Not held as good as cauliflower. Under no circumstances try beetroot rice Envy

I have not been golden today but I have a half marathon tomorrow so I'm telling myself I'm carb loading.

I have also well and truely caught the feels for new man... it is daft. I need a shake.

Hoolahoophop · 10/02/2018 21:15

Ooohh the excitement of my life. DH has gone out for a curry with friends, I had a spare 150 calories so I'm drinking becks blue and eating a Freddo in front of the TV while the dcs sleep upstairs. Grin

Feezles · 10/02/2018 22:15

Urgh. Had a biiiiig row with DH this afternoon. It's all fine now, but I feel like I've been hit by a bus (no idea why arguments affect me physically, but then do), and now there's wine.

Oh well. I'll probably come in at around about a maintenance calorie count today, and tomorrow is another day.

BitOutOfPractice · 10/02/2018 23:42

Lasty we need more details...

Sorry you had a row feezles, I hate rows and can switch straight into self comfort state which means lots of food/wine. Well done not complete losing the plot.
hoola you’re so good sticking to your budget! What a lovely little treat, I guzzled my way through wayyy too many treats but came in around maintenance as well.
Sunday weigh in shows my weekly average and I’m down 1lb!!!! Well .9 but I’m rounding up😉 I know it’s hardly groundbreaking but I’ve been gaining the previous 2 weeks so I’m hopeful the tide is turning. Only complication is I hurt my back yesterday and I can’t go to the gym or run, or possibly even walk much for a few days. I’ll need to be on point with my calories and that’s where I really really struggle. I need to maintain a 500 deficit, I’ve been eating 1850 since last Sunday, more likely averaging 1900. I think I’ll definitely give up chocolate & crisps for lent. That would free up a lot of calories. Anyone doing anything nice today? I’m probably stuck lying on the floor

Feezles · 11/02/2018 08:29

Thanks, Not - clearly it didn't do too much harm, because I am suddenly a pound down this morning, which I'm thrilled about but a bit bemused by! So, that's 12st 11.9 - the first time I have seen the 11s in this round of weight loss. Yay!

You have my complete sympathy on the injury front. It is so much hard when exercise is limited! I'm hoping to get running again this year and have an appointment with the consultant to discuss treatment plans for my achilles. I'm hoping for something non-invasive, but worried the threat of surgery is looming.

Not2bObvious · 11/02/2018 08:37

Congrats on the pound drop! It’s such a great feeling to move into a new bracket isn’t it? I’m on the right side is 11 stone, as in 11.6.8 - I need to stay this side now. You poor thing, what a nasty injury - fingers crossed for non invasive solution. I got up for 40 minutes, did some marching on the spot, prepped veg for dinner and then put a heat wrap on and back to bed. Much much better than yesterday on reflection but definitely started to ache again after a bit on my feet. Hoping so much it’ll be ok for next week (bloody midterm)

Kikisdeliveries · 11/02/2018 12:42

I've been jiggered all week with a back problem and weird zero energy lethargy sickness. I think weight has actually stayed stable but I miss the exercise endorphins. And also being in pain is shit. not2 I recommend getting a cheapo tens machine for muscular back pain relief.

Not2bObvious · 11/02/2018 13:15

Ahhh a tens machine, reminds me of my first pregnancy & how I thought it would be the key to no pain relief. Fast forward 40 hours of sloooooow labour, tens machine unceremoniously dumped and epidural demanded! But yes for this pain it might just work, thanks for the suggestion kiki. Really nagging at me now, have done a few bouts of marching on the spot but will need to rest up for a while. I’m so used to exercising every day I really find it hard not to. I’m terrified without a decent bit of activity I won’t sleep, dreadful sleeper

lastqueenofscotland · 11/02/2018 13:30

Half marathon run, having a decent lunch as I am starving but will rein it in after that.
Feeling positive.

Kikisdeliveries · 11/02/2018 13:51

Not2 yes, I was going to add that whereas tens for labour is completely useless for back pain it's lush! I've got a sub-£20 one from Amazon which works a treat.

Kikisdeliveries · 11/02/2018 13:55

Added to that, my own brand of back pain travels to my hip joint, which is utterly horrific and renders me unable to walk if I'm not super-careful so I've had to learn to just stop. The pain is exhausting so actually I've been sleeping pretty well.

Ofthread · 11/02/2018 14:13

Urgh, thanks for the welcome. Sorry for anyone with more to lose than me but I finally weighed myself today. 10 stone 7. Heaviest I've been since records began in 2011. I feel so disgusting and I am going through a very bad time in my life so could do without this. Jillian Michaels is waiting for me downstairs Sad.

Ofthread · 11/02/2018 14:18

Just moaning on here, hope you don't mind. Does anyone else here just not carry excess weight well at all? I am 10 stone 7 and I have a massive fat pad on my belly, I'm not even an apple, I have a good waist but then this massive belly sticking out below it. I also store fat under my jaw. I've seen people at 18 stone etc. with less of a double chin than me.

Not2bObvious · 11/02/2018 14:40

Ouf kiki that sounds grim, my own hips are nagging at me from time to time but thankfully it hasn’t hindered me to that degree. I hope you feel better soon, back pain is so flipping nauseating and feels so tedious. If you remember the brand of the tens could you let me know? I have a few £ on my amazon account so v happy to use it for something that might help
Wow last, that is amazing! Well done you! Eat away, you earned it.
Ofthread pls remember we always see ourselves in a must more critical light than others, don’t be so hard and critical if yourself. You feel too heavy and you’re going to work on, beating yourself up burns f’all. Don’t add to a bad time in your life by being mean to yourself. Get your diet in order, don’t eat too little as you might binge, become more active - it will take a bit of time but it’ll happen if you put effort into it. Very best of luck

Kikisdeliveries · 11/02/2018 14:52

I bought one called Nursal for £18 simply because it could be delivered quickest. The instructions are absolutely terrible so would only recommend if you already know how to use one already. It comes with lots of pads and seems to work well enough.

Kikisdeliveries · 11/02/2018 14:54

Ofthread this is definitely the place to moan - better here than to bore our loved ones!
