Anyone up for a current thread? I've had a good search and couldn't find anything recent!

I've got the book/cd and am downloading the app too. I'll start tonight.

I've never done this kind of thing before but am very open to it working :)

dotty is mouth hunger just like 'fancying' something and actual hunger needing something?
I think that's been a huge problem for me.
Again today I went absolutely hours without not eating because I wasn't hungry.

gaggiagirl · 08/04/2018 20:51

Without eating that should say

Dottydotts · 09/04/2018 00:33

gaggi yes that's right. It's eating something just cause your mouth likes the smell, feel or taste of it. Like sweeties or icecream. They can slip down easily even when not hungry or stuffed but try eating sprouts or broccoli when you are full, no way that will happen.

Hi can I join in - I posted about three weeks ago but I've been on holiday for a week and trying to decide on what my best options are for losing weight. I've been a bit of a eating/ dieting mess for about 6 months as I feel like I've been on a rebound from a low carb high fat diet and and I seem to go on and off diets like a yo yo, each one lasting a few days then I go onto something else - you're probably thinking, she's going to go on and off this one too - I might well do, but I've got to the point in my life where I want to eat normally and not faff about with diets for the rest of my life. I've been browsing Susie Orbach's book, On Eating - one of the many books in my diet/eating book stash - and PMKs book I can make you thin seems to follow the rules she sets out and he adds more detail and exercises.

It seems to be the only approach to weight loss I can put up at the moment without throwing it out the window and turning into a antidiet whirling dervish. So I'm going to give it a go.

gaggiagirl · 10/04/2018 08:39

Maggie I get what you mean. I just want to live alongside food normally and not live with food battles.

Dottydotts · 10/04/2018 10:16

Maggie dieting makes us fatter in the long run (plenty of evidence to back that up on the internet) but learning how to give up the dieting mentality is easy for some and more difficult for others. It takes faith to believe that your body knows when it needs refuelling and what it needs/wants. I love PM for his hypnosis and cds. However I enjoy all books in the subject of anti dieting and am have just purchased some new books (second hand) to read by a couple of ladies who have been through this journey and they list weight by losing the diet.

Dottydotts · 10/04/2018 10:17

"Lost" !!! Grrrr, why does my phone change everything Angry

summerisonitway · 10/04/2018 12:19

Dottydots I would love to know which books you would recommend. I feel like I have read loads of books about this way of eating over the last 5 years but I am still finding it really hard to do. I gave up dieting about 5 years ago but am so frustrated that I still eat for reasons other than hunger. I don't want to make weight loss my main focus but don't want to remain the same weight as now. I have kept away from Paul McKenna a bit as, although the principles are similar, I am a Christian and don't like the idea of using hypnosis. Any advice would be much appreciated.

MaggieMay23 · 10/04/2018 13:04

@Dottydotts @gaggiagirl I agree that diets don't work and make you fatter. I'm fatter than I was in my 20s and I'm now in my 60s - has age given me wisdom ?? No!! I wrote out my dieting eating journey last week while I was away on holiday and having time to think and it makes scary reading - what annoys me is the time, effort, worry, money that I've spent on it all. Also I realised that I've rarely been on holiday and not felt fat, awkward, bursting out of my clothes and thinking that by my next holiday I'll be slim, and that hasn't happened yet.
I'm working my way quite slowly towards a plan for me that's going to be a way of life - at my age you'd think I'd have got it right by now, wouldn't you. I'm ready PMK and Susie Orbach - Both treat you like mature intelligent human beings which I find refreshing. Any recommendations for books on anti diets I'd be grateful for, Dotty
I'm trying to ditch the diet mentality - it's so deeply ingrained that I don't even know what foods I like and dislike, or how to eat and when to eat - this is a journey and it's not a race - after all look how long it took to get here

Dottydotts · 10/04/2018 21:11

Summer and giggi . I read about stopping dieting in early 90s . The book that started it for me was Overcoming Overeating by Hirschmann and Munter . It made me rejoice and throw out all my diet food and go out and buy all the previous forbidden foods . I stocked my cupboards and fridge with crisps, biscuits, vintage cheese, butter ,chocolate and cake. I love vegetables and home cooked meals and that didn't change. I ate a lot of the extra foods at first replenishing them as soon as they were nearly gone so I would never feel without what I loved. To not buy them seemed like punishment. It didn't take long before these forbidden foods became normal and therefore my attachment to them disappeared. When Women stop hating their bodies was another, Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole is good and her TED talks really make you feel good. There have been more books but they are in various places and can't remember which they are.

Dottydotts · 10/04/2018 21:17

Summer if hypnosis is not something you agree then you will be fine. PMs four rules will help you and you really don't need the hypnosis part at all. It's the icing on the cake but the hypnosis cd can't always bee there whereas learning the basics and following them is always with you

Dottydotts · 10/04/2018 21:20

Sorry Maggie my replies are to you as well Smile and I hear you loud and clear Grin I'm 56 and have spent a lifetime hating my body and want to not spend the rest of my life feeling this way Cake

MaggieMay23 · 10/04/2018 22:31

No worries @Dottydotts thanks for your posts. It's inspiring to read your story. I'm feeling positive and optimistic about this way or approach 😀👍💐

Dottydotts · 10/04/2018 22:49

Maggie thank you. Love reading about you too as we are a similar age and grew up in the whole "diet " thing.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 10/04/2018 22:58

Just checking in. I've not been doing so well, still trying to be mindful, but keep getting distracted and losing focus. I need to get back on track!

gigi556 · 11/04/2018 13:35

I'm still here but not doing great! A lot of what you are saying resonates with me Dotty. I like this idea of stocking my cupboards with "forbidden" food. I know PMK says you can eat what you like but I try to only buy stuff like chocolate or sweets when I want it rather than keep it in the house. DP gets annoyed as he has no self control and if it's in the house I often find it gone when I want it'

forgotMyusernameAgain · 11/04/2018 13:46

I'm in, i have the book etc but didnt realise there was an app. I'll dl it today

Dottydotts · 11/04/2018 18:25

giggi then what you need is a tuck box just for you. Storage box that seals and put all your lovely foods in and hide. Obviously not fridge items. Thing is it doesn't take long before those forbidden foods become boring and then you don't need to do it.

gaggiagirl · 11/04/2018 21:39

I'm very surprised to have not eaten chocolate yet this week. I think it's because I know I can. I've had a chocolate rabbit in the fridge staring at me all week.

forgotMyusernameAgain · 11/04/2018 23:08

Start tomorrow... fingers crossed

Dottydotts · 12/04/2018 02:19

You can do it forgot

Dottydotts · 12/04/2018 02:21

gaggia that's the thing, when you know you can have it whenever you really want it , then it sort of loses it's desirability.

Solo · 12/04/2018 08:33

Hi everyone :) The thread has chugged along and it fell off my TIO.
I haven't done anything at all. I want to start next week though.

gaggiagirl · 12/04/2018 09:11

You can do it forgot nice to see you back solo
Anyone with the app, when you reach the end of sessions... 8 days I think... Can you just return to day one and start again?

Dottydotts · 12/04/2018 10:35

gaggia I'm sorry I don't know. Though if you have the cd in back of the book you can pop that on iPod or CD player and listen each night. Sorry, not much help Smile
