My tablets are 20,000 IU. I took 2 per week for 6 weeks then one a week. I stopped taking them in the summer because I ran out but I decided to start again in the autumn.

QuimReaper · 25/01/2018 12:10

If it turns out to be iron deficiency, I've been taking Spatone sachets which come highly recommended, they don't mess with your stomach like iron tablets can. Also good because you have to take them with Vitamin C, so I've been taking them with Berocca, which means I've been getting all that good stuff too. I never remember to take Berocca unless I have a cold, so that has to be a good thing.

(I don't know if I was iron deficient but I was pretty low energy, and I wanted to try an iron supplement to see if it'd improve my crappy hair! In any case when I donated blood the other day I definitely wasn't iron deficient.)

QuimReaper · 25/01/2018 12:10

I ALWAYS forget how much builder's dust inflames my allergies, I've been sneezing my head off all day!

Not2bObvious · 25/01/2018 14:11

Hows everyone doing today? Slight drop in the scales to 11.5.4 despite eating a tonne of junk yesterday. Doing a bit better today but still a bit on the edge. I could easily hammer into a large bar of chocolate if I got near one (so I guess I should avoid!) Tired but contemplating gym session as have a child free hour....hmm

NewYearNiki · 25/01/2018 16:32

Quim there is 5mg of iron ...in other words nothing.... in spatone and my GP had his head in his hands when I said I was using that.

My iron deficiency was severe enough for me to be having palpitations and I had to have iron intravenously. After that it was 3 70mg iron pills a day.

If the blood service accepted your donation you don't have a problem as I always fail the iron and have never been able to donate.

I also take berocca, and my GP said it is not absorbed and just excreted which is why your pee is a noxious bright yellow after berocca.

I give up with supplements Grin

NewYearNiki · 25/01/2018 16:33

I honestly can't be bothered at all. Feel really down for some reason. Why did I bother losing weight it is not like anyone ever appreciates my body or even.sees it.

HappyGowerGirl · 25/01/2018 17:08

Niki I'm sorry you are feeling down. Remember though you did not loose all that weight for someone else (to see your body), you did it for YOU! And your weight loss and fitness has given you such a great sense of achievement, at it should! It's still normal to feel down sometimes, though. Is there anything in particular you are feeling down about?

NewYearNiki · 25/01/2018 17:12

Is there anything in particular you are feeling down about?

Everything. I dont think there is a single area of my life that is ok.

It's all just hit me in January .

Not2bObvious · 25/01/2018 18:11

Sounds like you’ve a bad case of the blues niki, I know there’s that problem where people who really want to lose weight think that when they do, life will be brilliant. Nope problems still exist, you’re just taking up a physically smaller space! I’m sure you have your reasons for feeling shitty, it’s horrible to feel down like that and I don’t know your reasons so I won’t try suggest stuff that’d probably just irritate you. Hope you feel a bit brighter soon

Kikisdeliveries · 25/01/2018 21:25

I felt a bit perkier today with the sunshine so maybe it is just winter fatigue for me. I will get myself checked out though. Thanks for the tips donald, Quim and Not2. I usually have a generic effervescent multivit a few times a week before training. I like it because it makes me drink water, even though I know logically the vitamins are going to be peed out, I like to think my body will absorb some of them.

TheDonald · 26/01/2018 04:40

Niki I'm sorry you're having a rough time at the moment. Flowers

Right. I need you ladies to give me a kick up the bum. My motivation has been left behind in 2017.

I just have no willpower this month. I don't think I've managed more than a two day streak before another bad day.

Yesterday I was doing great all day but then around 9.30 I was so starving I had a bowl of muesli, a packet of crisps and a chocolate bar. Before Christmas I wouldn't have been hungry at that time. I'd had 1300 cals so no reason to be so hungry.

I'm not sure what has changed. I've only gained a lb so far but I can tell I'm sliding in the wrong direction. Help!

Not2bObvious · 26/01/2018 05:38

Awake at stupid o’clock. IMHO 1300 is very low and I’m not surprised you had a blow out. If you’re struggling to stay on track, you’re very likely setting your calories too low. I would raise them to 1500-1600 and see can you stick to that, try get at least 10k steps a day and lower your expectations to .5 to 1-2lb on average a week depending on what you have to lose. Listen to what your body is saying, you can’t stay on track cause your track is too restrictive.
I went to the gym yesterday afternoon so I’m not going to my 6am class, going to do an hours walk before work and then get a jog in later. I’ll go the gym in the morning to get my 4th session in. Need to do my Friday weigh in but can’t be bothered to get up!

HappyGowerGirl · 26/01/2018 07:09

Oh no Niki🙁
January is such a grim time as well.
Can you arrange to meet a friend for a coffee or a glass of wine this week? Have you been exercising? That should help, too.

ponygirlcurtis · 26/01/2018 07:11

Morning everyone. Sounds like lots of us are struggling a bit - me too, mojo appears to have taken a holiday. Hope it's somewhere nice, maybe it will come back all refreshed and ready for action!

Hope you are feeling a bit better today Niki. January is a hard month, it's nearly done.

HairsprayBabe · 26/01/2018 07:19

Morning all, 10.4 from all the wine and cake and hangoverfood yesterday....

need to be golden today and have a good weekend or I won't have a lot to show for January...

Feb is looking to be pretty bloody social too... Why can't people just make non food plans for things I work so hard in the week and it just gets ruined every bloody weekend! 😠

Next month I have SILs 18th, my leaving do from work, another friends leaving do from work, valentines day, my birthday, DPs birthday, two other friends birthday and the rugby will be on and that always involves food eurgh.

QuimReaper · 26/01/2018 13:06

I am down one measly Linda. Three to go... Maybe I'll get there in February!

My "easy come easy go" theory is not bearing out!

QuimReaper · 26/01/2018 13:13

TheDonald finding the wagon again after it careers away from you can be a killer. I tend to send myself to bootcamp: I write down all of my meals on Monday, put them all in the fridge, and then cross them off when I eat them. I find having one good week (four days in my case...) resets my mojo, but if I'm a bit mimsy-pimsy about what I'm allowed to eat I end up randomly scarfing cheese at 10pm. It helps if you can lock anything you're not allowed away (or order everyone else in the house to eat it) - is that an option?

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 26/01/2018 13:34

Need to catch up when not on my phone, but stayed the same again today. At mums now for lunch (omelette Smile)

HairsprayBabe · 26/01/2018 13:53

Currently on 282 calories for the day,
Having a variation of this for dinner.

Curly kale, roasted swede cubes, walnuts and goats cheese....

So basically nothing like that recipe Grin

I’ve had a 36 hour sickness/diarrhoea bug which came out of nowhere and was truly awful. Lost 4lbs in one day 🙄

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 26/01/2018 22:28

Niki, the third week of January is a common one for blues to hit (www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/904755/blue-monday-2018-january-depression-seasonal-affective-disorder). I get it, I've had a particularly bad few days too. Not helped by losing a whole pack of my ADs!!

I know you can buy vitD injections that are absorbed better than the tablets, could you look into whether it's possible to do the same with iron?

Koko, I eat about 1200 a day. I do it not by eating little, but eating tonnes of veg. I usually have muesli for breakfast with fruit and whole milk, veg soup for lunch and something like paneer curry, bean Chilli or an omelette for dinner. Then I have at least one healthy snacky thing a day (something like nuts), though sometimes a small amount of chocolate or something sweet. What do you usually eat?

Not2bObvious · 27/01/2018 07:42

Morning all, hope we’re all having a nice weekend so far? Mines been pretty typical, too many Friday nibbles - nothing new there! The habit of letting loose on Friday appears to be so deeply engrained, I’m having no success quelling it. Sure there’s another next week, I’ll keep on trucking. I’m using a different idea with the weighing (recommended on the plan I do) where I input my weight daily into the Fitbit app, you can also use happy scales if you don’t have a Fitbit. So instead of going between joy/despair with weigh in’s, I’m focussing on the weekly average. Of course this week my average is up, I do know why - weekend gorging isn’t being got away with, the truth will out. It’s a tough pill to swallow, part of me wants to tantrum that I’m more good than bad, but as I know kicking myself won’t drop the weight. I’m allowing myself a little moan if you’ll indulge me...this sucks, my head is wrecked with this, I can’t shift down to the next stone bracket with my efforts. I feel like I’m 80% of the way to get there, it’s the other 20% that’s holding me back. I’m getting in my own way.
Ok - pity party over, will aim to get my steps in today, no gym as I’m tired and think it’s not in me today. Anyone doing anything nice today?

TheDonald · 27/01/2018 09:38

Koko I feel like my wagon has been towed away by the police and impounded! Grin

Actually the damage on the scales isn't too bad. Still 10 10.6 so although I have gained 1lb I'm still one down since the start of January.

Thanks everyone for the boot up the bum. I have decided to aim for 1500 to 1800 cals while I get through my bad patch.

I'm going to Pilates this morning and then for a walk. No running this weekend because of a sore Achilles which I'm hoping won't turn into a major problem.

Not2bObvious · 27/01/2018 10:21

Glad to hear you’re going to cut yourself some slack TheD, if you’re only showing 1lb on but you’re down overall, you’re clearly not doing any serious overeating, just losing weight a bit slower as your deficit is lower. Gentler exercise won’t send you in a starvation mode either, best rest up & let the tendon recover. I’m still lying around, got to get up v soon to ferry kids about. I need to do something, maybe a gentle jog, feel sluggish and nibbly - not a good combo!
