The diet begins Boxing Day! Lose weight, stay happy

HattietheManatee · 22/12/2017 12:52

So after a really crap year where I had a severe depressive episode, I’ve ended up mentally much healthier but heavier due to my medication (mirtzapine). Oh, and my obscene addiction to sugar!! I’m finally in a place where I feel I can tackle my weight gain. Having braved the scales yesterday I weighed in at 10st 7lb - I was 9st in April, so quite a gain. I’m 5ft 3 and this gives me a BMI of 26 (so in the overweight category!)

Target weight is 8st 7lb so want to lose 2st. First mini goal is 10st by end of January.

I plan to follow a HFLC diet as this should help me tackle my sugar additiction once and for all. I have terrible problems with blood sugar and lots of people say this clears up on the diet. Am going to use India Knights idiot proof diet book after a recommendation here.

I can’t wait til next year so I have 4 more days to wallow in Christmas biscuits then Boxing Day will start my diet! We have a family meal out that day which could be interesting...I’m not planning to mention it in RL so will use this as a diary. Please feel free to post, join in, give support (flowers emojis rather than biscuits please or I may end up nibbling on my iPad) etc.

Yesterday was a write off. We were all over tired and cranky and there was a huge tin of roses. Today has gone better so far, mainly because the roses are nearly gone!

Evening all. I have lost a few pounds this week. But I have been on nights so either running about or sleeping. Wishing everyone a happy new year now, as I will be at work tonight.

Well the last few days have been a disaster.... Last bottle of wine tonight, then Dry Jan and no bread/ sweet things for a month.
Have totally fallen down on booze and treats this week, no will power at all...
Working 4-12 all week from tomorrow, so no booze even if I wanted to, and hoping work chocolates will all have vanished... will take healthy dinner in to work, porridge for breakfast and soup for lunch.
Starting 30 days of yoga tomorrow, and planning to get a run in too...

Will write more tomorrow - just to wish you all a very happy, healthy (and slimmer) New Year!

I realised I needed to see in the New Year so have had a rare takeaway - I stuck to low carb options like chicken satay, shredded beef and mushroom and shoots - and now about to use a free movie credit to watch La La Land together!

Look forward to catching up properly tomorrow, enjoy your evening one and all!

Oh dear. I'm more than a bit tiddly at a house party... just managed to persuade 7 children into bed and enjoying a quick lie down on the pretext of getting 3 wee girls- one of whom belongs to me- off to sleep.

I have eaten mostly everything including baked Camembert... I'm wearing a sparkly dress with an elasticated synched in waist and even that has started to dig in!! Blush

BUT I'm going to run in the morning! Yay! But there's also trifle. I like trifle. Hic!

#hornynotscrawny

Really love this thread and I promise to behave as of tomorrow. Peace out everyone! Happy new year.

Started well today then had a huge piece of Xmas cake for lunch. Salad for tea followed by half a yule log.
Totally mindless eating as when I had finished the last mouthful of yule log and then felt my tummy begin to twinge, I remembered my misssing gallbladder. The next couple of hours have given me plenty of time to ruminate on how I eat without even being aware of it!

Time to get serious! I've had my breakfast porridge and I've got my Fitbit set up again. I'm going to be super strict for January. I weighed 10 stone 8 this morning and I want to lose 2 stone and be fitter and healthier.

Happy new year to you all!

Right, I am focussed and ready to begin changing my eating habits. We have a long walk planned today, plus we have relocated the cross trainer in the conservatory. I plan to do 5 minutes in the morning and 5 at night, which will increase over the month. I don't want to start too high and put myself off.

I'm also logging my food intake on my fitbit app, it's such a faff it'll stop me picking at food I hope. I seem to eat a lot of shite which is probably why I've put weight on Hmm

I've done OK since Christmas - been to gym & def reduced portions/calories (doing meal replacement). But this is my pattern - I hit things hard then lapse when I'm tired/bored/impatient for results. I'd love to lose a 1.5 stone as I weigh 11.9.

Right after a couple of false starts I’m on it today!

I’ve topped the scales at 11’9 and and 5’7 so officially overweight :(

Breakfast was I small slice wholemeal toast with low fat spread plus 2 skinny steak sausages and cup of hot water.

Just had and apple and macadamia and coconut cold pressed paleo bar - 200 calories but very filling.

Going to make a pot of soup for lunch and roast beef and veg for dinner.

I’d signed up to the James Smith Academy as I agree with the approach I.e. focusing more on changing your shape than weight but I’m struggling my to get my head round the whole macros thing so I think I’ll focus on the calorie goal and exercising.

Done a short circuit today at home (press ups, tricep dip, planks and some leg work) and will do weights tomorrow.

Happy new year all!

I am now logging all my food on my fitness pal. Going to aim for half a stone a month

Food for today
Had porridge for breakfast. Black coffee ( no sugar)
Lunch will be whatever soup Mil brings round with her & an Apple
Dinner is going to be lemon chilli chicken with small amount of rice & peas
Snack I can allow myself a 2nd Apple.

@hazelbright thanks for the recommendation, have downloaded the book and look forward to reading it!

@biscuitbasket sorry to hear you’ve had some sad news. Hope the last couple of days have been better for you.

@Hippywannabe I fricking love a Yule log too! Hope you’re feeling better now. Mindless eating is definitely a fault of mine.

@HippoPotOMoose hope you had a lovely walk. Making it easier to exercise and small steps to begin with sounds like a great idea. I can’t be arsed entering food into a food tracker either - but I just don’t enter it rather than stop eating it! Grin

Kids hollering for me, be back later

@Bonkersblond - that’s the #hornynotscrawny attitude in you talking today! Best of luck with sw tomorrow.

@PinkHeart5914 Happy New Year too and hope today’s food went the way you wanted it to.

@applesandpears23 at least the Roses are gone now! Much easier once temptation is removed!

@Butternutissquashed happy new year - hope your run went well today!

@Suffolkbumkin well done on the weight loss - I found I eat much worse when I work erratic hours so am very impressed!

@Littleredpoppy sounds like a great plan. I love thirty days of yoga - are you planning to do this year’s one?

@Fiveshelties that sounds doable, look forward to hearing your progress.

@SageYourResoluteOracle Grin I love trifle too! Is it wrong of me to hope for more tipsy #hornynotscrawny posts on thread? Grin

@Pavonia almost identical weight loss goals. I’ve dug out and charged my Fitbit but there must be something wrong with it as it says I’ve only done 7k steps the last two days Grin

@AppleBlossomTimeNow it sounds like you’ve done better than ok! If you know that’s your pattern, can you think of a way to disrupt it? Like do a little less but build it into your daily routine? Or sign up to something like a run so you have something to aim towards? Am sure you’ll have better ideas than these suggestions.

@jinglebells123 you’ve just been gearing up by the sound of it - I have no idea about macros Confused so sorry can’t help but your alternative approach sounds sensible and you already have an exercise schedule drawn up. That puts you a few steps ahead of me!

Great to see so many updates, is really spurring me on.
I am great at making plans but rubbish at the follow through so this thread is definitely holding me accountable.

Yesterday’s food
B: fake shepherds pie with cauliflower mash (I said I loved it!)
Small handful smoked nuts, cheddar and decaf coffee with cream
L: one slice of cheese with two slices of chorizo, one boiled egg, 3 cherry toms and 2 slices cucumber. There would have been a bit more but DS kicked it on the floor by accident.
S: decaf coffee with cream, small handful smoked nuts
D: Chinese takeaway: chicken satay, beef ribs, shoots and mushrooms, spicy beef. All low carb and delicious!!
8k steps

Today’s food
B: chicken satay stick and beef rib with two stuffed pepperdews
S: decaf coffee with cream
L: smoked salmon with Brie, sliced cheese and chorizo, cherry Toms and cucumber
S: cup lamb and tomato consommé, small handful of smoked nuts
D: Jamie’s 5 ingredients lamb stew with olives, silverskin onions, tomatoes and rosemary, with cauliflower rice. Only ate two of the mini onions as they are quite carby.
7k steps

Today I managed to do up a pair of jeans I couldn’t last week, so must have lost at least an inch off my tummy! I still had a muffin top but at least I could wear them! That’s progress Wink. Will weigh in tomorrow which is my day 8/week 2.

I think I’m about to get my period which explains weight fluctuations and mood swings. Cramps not as bad as usual though.

Happy new year everyone! I've been waiting for today as dh goes back to work and is also starting a diet today so makes my life so much easier! (Though he only needs to have ONE small dinner and he needs to do his belt tighter Biscuit)

Will weigh in the morning and take all my cringy measurements then that's it. No more excuses or anything else to blame. My Fitbit is charged and the fridges are stocked. 10k steps every day without fail and SW meals already planned out.

Good luck everyone, let's kick butt!

Morning all!

Day 8 weigh in: 10st 1 and 5/8!
Starting weight: 10st 7lb
Lost this week: 5lb (and 3/8!)
Total weight lost: 5lb (and 3/8!)
Any lessons learnt? Read recipes in Jamie’s sodding 5 ingredients very closely before food shopping. Otherwise you’ll waste 20 mins deboning and dicing lamb when you could have got it done for nowt at the butchers. Oh, and I have willpower! No deliberate cheating Halo, although a few tiny moments of accidental inhalation of particles of excluded food Grin.

Really pleased with this as after hitting 10st 2 quite quickly, my weight went up again. Daily weighing is such a bad idea, really need to stick to weekly ones. If the weight has fluctuated it puts me in such a sad mood for the rest of the day.
