So after a really crap year where I had a severe depressive episode, I’ve ended up mentally much healthier but heavier due to my medication (mirtzapine). Oh, and my obscene addiction to sugar!! I’m finally in a place where I feel I can tackle my weight gain. Having braved the scales yesterday I weighed in at 10st 7lb - I was 9st in April, so quite a gain. I’m 5ft 3 and this gives me a BMI of 26 (so in the overweight category!)

Target weight is 8st 7lb so want to lose 2st. First mini goal is 10st by end of January.

I plan to follow a HFLC diet as this should help me tackle my sugar additiction once and for all. I have terrible problems with blood sugar and lots of people say this clears up on the diet. Am going to use India Knights idiot proof diet book after a recommendation here.

I can’t wait til next year so I have 4 more days to wallow in Christmas biscuits then Boxing Day will start my diet! We have a family meal out that day which could be interesting...I’m not planning to mention it in RL so will use this as a diary. Please feel free to post, join in, give support (flowers emojis rather than biscuits please or I may end up nibbling on my iPad) etc.

Morning all! I officially start today! Weighed in at 11’6 yesterday and want to lose a stone.

Was up and about early this morning and only just grabbing breakfast- porridge with chia seeds and cup of hot water.

Then planning a smoothie with more chia seeds and spinach.

I’ve decided to focus more on eating healthy rather than dieting in the hope that this might make it feel less restrictive and that my overall well-being will benefit - nothing worse than feeling limited in your food choices. I’m also taking the view of everything in moderation so will still allow myself a treat.

Not attempted any exercise yet - other than taking the dog for a long walk. Hopefully manage some weights today or tomorrow :)

HattietheManatee · 27/12/2017 13:22

Welcome everyone, I am in the middle of refereeing near constant battles between the three and five year old so can’t reply to you individually at the mo, but really pleased to see you all here and hearing your plans.

Day 2 of LCHF diet - scrambled eggs and salmon for breakfast, then some deli meat and cheese for lunch with spinach and pecan nuts. Had a decaf coffee with cream as well but no snacking which is miraculous for me! I have had an upset tummy today though - is that normal?!

Back to Ice Age for about the zillionith time. Telly is the only time they stop arguing!

I have been up since 6am and just started snacking so that is not too bad. I had a sensible breakfast and lunch but I am out and there is a junk food buffet. Had some pringles and cake. Going to try to stop now. Going to try to stop now.

PinkHeart5914 · 27/12/2017 15:59

Afternoon all!

For me today
Wasn’t hungry at breakfast so had some cranberry juice, coffee ( Black no sugar)

Lunch cream of chicken soup, 1 piece of sour dough bread. Apple. Banana but ds helped me out with that.

I have just had another coffee( no sugar) & 4 xmas chooclates ( the new born and 1 of the toddlers had me and dh up a lot of the night and I needed the chocolate to pep me up)

Dinner is going to be a chorizo, chicken and lentil stew ( lots of mushrooms & pepper in it)

Haven’t really done any exercise but baby was only born 8 days ago and I can’t even face walking far at the minute. I hope to get back to my running and pole dancing in a few weeks though all being well 😃

Hope you’ve all had a good day food wise

HattietheManatee · 27/12/2017 16:47

Apples - step away from the junk food buffet!

Pink - well done on keeping it together with a newborn (and toddlers), sleep deprivation always has me reaching for the sugar!

Dull dull day at home with kids. Normally I would end up picking on a day like this. Haven’t crumbled though, have had half a boiled egg and a tini slice of salmon to see me through til dinner.

Keep going everyone!!

My resolve is fairly good even though DH has purchased yet more mince pies! I've just had Hairy Dieters avocado, bacon and grapefruit salad (amazing- I really needed something leafy) followed by Christmas pud - all carefully weighed and logged on MFP. I still have the calories left for an options hot chocolate, a bendicks mint and some yoghurt and fruit. I'm on 1675 Cals a day as this is my basic metabolic rate requirement- this is how I lost 3 stone steadily (with the help of a PT) and am now determined to shed the final stone. It HAS to happen before I turn 40!

I'm really glad to have company doing this though- it helps.

Bonkersblond · 27/12/2017 20:59

Hard day today with so many treats still in the house, wish DH & DC would hurry up and eat it all, resisted temptation and made a turkey & veg soup, was lovely, and was feeling very virtuous but the chocolate pudding I made which no one touched on Xmas day got too much for me, I had a little bit, it is a Christmas leftover after all, not an ideal choice and not feeling so good about it, however DS has now tried it so it won’t last long, still haven’t braved the scales.......

Littleredpoppy · 28/12/2017 07:47

Yesterday started well, but fell down towards end of twilight shift. Ended up eating a load of celebrations, then got home at 10 to find DH had cheese and wine out. Have logged on MFP and an 1000 cals over my target Confused Blush
Today's another day though, so fruit and a cup of tea for breakfast, and need to make sure that I take lunch with me today.

HattietheManatee · 28/12/2017 08:16

Sage, that salad sounds delicious! How did you work out your basic metabolic rate requirement?

Bonkers - it was only a little bit, sometimes a little bit is better than fighting it and ending up gorging! Today is a new day (and now the DC know it’s there, you’ve no chance!)

Poppy - shift work and diets are a hard combination. Well done for logging it and you have a whole new calorie allowance to play with today.

Had tarragon turkey on bed of creamed spinach for dinner, it was really tasty and may even have it again tonight!

Day 3 plan - kids to soft play and join in, bacon and eggs for breakfast, salmon with cream cheese for lunch and tarragon turkey with spinach for dinner. Nuts for snack if needed, and a couple of decaf coffees with cream.

Quick jump on scales says I’m 10 st 2 inches Xmas Hmm (starting weight 10 7) that’s a morning weight and probably all water retention lost but I should take that as a win, right?

I have just had my moment of doom and weighed myself. I have 3 stone to lose(though the last 7lb is negotiable)

Feeling very motivated and this thread seems very supportive. Hope it's going well for those who have started already Halo

SageYourResoluteOracle · 28/12/2017 09:35

@HattietheManatee I used to have a personal trainer so he calculated it for me. The BMR is important as it means that you don't undereat which can cause metabolic problems down the line. I recently stopped working with him after 2 years and the last time I saw him was in the pub when I'd literally just ripped open a packet of crisps- some skill, that, being able to summon ones PT by opening a bag of crisps... Blush but he's a good guy and the best thing I learned that I have a wobble or a blow out one day then I just get back on it the next day. None of this 'diet starts Monday', 'diet starts in January' or 'diet starts on the first new moon in three month's time' ... its more a way of eating for me and I don't call it a diet at all. The other thing I've found is that high protein, relatively low carb and good fats are what make me feel full.

I also eat 'dynamically' so if I'm running the next day, I'll have 200 extra Cals the day before etc.

It works, I just need to knuckle down and finish what I started two years ago. I'd dearly love to be '11 stone something' which would put me in a size 10!! Anything less than that feels too skinny for me... aiming for horny not scrawny!

How is everyone doing today?

HuunGerReee · 28/12/2017 10:50

Grin to horny not scrawny!

PinkHeart5914 · 28/12/2017 11:43

Horny not scrawny Grin

Morning all!

I had porridge for breakfast this morning. 3 Coffee ( black no sugar)

Lunch is going to be a chicken and gherkin sandwich, apple, banana

Dinner is going to be a turkey and veg stir fry tonight

Probably a fair bit of Pepsi max, I know I should stick to water but I can’t give the Pepsi up not yet! I find it keeps me awake which at the moment I need. I always have a few glasses of water too.

Me, Dh, dd, ds and new born ds are going for our first trip out all together today just around the park as the weather is ok but it’s exercise none the less.

Hope you all have a good day 😃

jinglebells123 · 28/12/2017 12:13

Yesterday started well for me - porridge for breakfast, left over ham and veg for lunch and wholemeal spag Bol with loads of hidden veg for dinner - then I started to snack and undid all the good work.

I did however manage a couple of decent walks with the dog and some kettlebell exercises while cooking dinner so that’s still something.

Breakfast today was scrambled egg and brown toast followed by smoothie with strawberry, banana, blueberry, spinach and chia seeds.

Lunch is skinny green soup ( nicer than I expected) and dinner will be a home made healthy chicken curry.

I’m not going to pretend I won’t have some sweets again today but plan on doing another kettlebell circuit - probably again while keeping an eye in dinner.

If I can get the majority of the sweets cleared by new year that will help - thankfully I didn’t get that many!

Pink heart - I too struggle to give up Pepsi max - I tend to keep that as my treat otherwise I feel like I’m really limiting myself. I know it’s like battery acid but at least there’s no fat in it!

Bonkersblond · 28/12/2017 19:33

Well done HattietheManatee, a 5lb loss is all it takes to make you feel better and a really good kickstart. I’ve yet to brave the scales, have had a relatively good day today, pleased the chocolate pudding has been finished by DC & DH! I’m still ignoring the obscene amount of chocolate and sweet treats we still seem to have but I have moved them so I can’t see them! Ideally I’d like to throw them out but I don’t think I would be very popular. Back to wearing my Fitbit, kids also have one so we’re having a competition who can do the most steps in a week. Also I read in another thread which I can’t find, 3 good tips for losing weight and one was to always sit down to eat, never eat standing up, so this cuts out a lot of nibbling for me, I can’t remember the other 2 but if I find I’ll share here.

HuunGerReee · 28/12/2017 21:17

That's such a good tip re the standing up!

SageYourResoluteOracle · 29/12/2017 00:06

Oh dear... cheese and wine happened and then champagne then nuts (friend staying) BUT I’m walking around 6 miles tomorrow so that will help with the atonement! And park run on Saturday morning too

Night all!

Pavonia · 29/12/2017 07:49

Thanks to the fact that I'm home alone with the Christmas left overs this week, I haven't started the diet yet. My period started yesterday and this morning I'm 3 pounds heavier than I was on Tuesday! I think I will ease myself in to the new regime today: porridge for breakfast and eggs for lunch and leave the Christmas food alone. I'm out for dinner tonight which is a rare treat for me so that won't be very diet friendly. I'll be really strict from tomorrow.

HuunGerReee · 29/12/2017 10:36

Don't be too discouraged about scales at lady time it's never accurate Hmm

DownstairsMixUp · 29/12/2017 10:40

Can I join? I’m a shocking 11 stone 8 and 5’5 so fat. No diets for me, just cutting the crap. So only whole grain carbs ie brown rice pasta bread etc and more protein, if I fancy a drink only clear spirits and low cal mixers, no more cider, wine or cocktails! That’s what got me into this mess ;/ more exercise. This is the biggest I’ve ever been so first mini goal for dh birthday in March is 9 stone 7 then 8 stone 10 for my hols in June

supersop60 · 29/12/2017 10:44

I'm in. Same as you - 5'2" and 10 st 7. I've been at this weight for a number of years since having DCs and would like to get back to nearer what I used to be say 9 stone. My weakness is my sweet tooth, so am aiming to reduce sugar.

Hippywannabe · 29/12/2017 10:47

Starting over here too. Mind you, breakfast was chocolate gateau but I have logged it truthfully on MFP.
13 1/2 weeks till mynholiday and wantbto lose another 2 stones by then.

Butternutissquashed · 29/12/2017 10:52

Morning. Not been about really as I've been buried under the Christmas chocolates. I've found a SW class that I can make and that helpfully is on a Sunday this week (usually Monday) so I can make a good start for New Year. parkrun tomorrow. That's going to hurt!!

PrincessPlod · 29/12/2017 10:54

I'm in currently 11st 13lb and would like to be 10st but mini goal 11st by end of January.

HippoPotOMoose · 29/12/2017 11:12

I have a stone to lose, which has been put on over the past few months I've been poorly plus anxiety and depression so majorly comfort eating Sad
