It’s been 6 years since the first New Mums thread but this year will be the one where we get skinny for Christmas!

We’ve tried pretty much every diet going and have supported each other through the good times and the bad. This will be our year, motivation is high and panic has set in.

Morning all,

Hope you had a great Mother's Day? Did the dcs get you anything nice? I got a canvas with their handprint on and a pancake maker Confused

Dc1 made me a card at school but instead of writing mummy wrote Nannie, I was very upset and his reason was.......didn't want too.

I really have to work had this week as scoffed a lot of food yesterday. Oh dear.

Has anyone got the tom kerridge book? I have done a few recipes from there and they are really nice.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 13/03/2018 12:02

Aw Rachey, don’t be upset about the card, although I would be too. Children can be so cutting sometimes, and they do it with a shrug while we are in bits. We didn’t really do much for Mother’s Day, I got some flowers and wine and a takeaway. So I was happy.

I haven’t seen the Tom Kerridge book but his weight loss is amazing. Although he gave up alcohol, I don’t think I could do that.

Four stone in a year is amazing Rachey. I need to lose that much, and maybe a bit more, I’m such a lump at the moment. We’re about to book a holiday to somewhere sunny and the thought of putting on a bathing suit is scaring me. I’m plodding along with weight watchers though and don’t feel like I’m dieting at all.

I scrolled back to try and find what Diet you’re following Rachey, but I couldn’t see it. I really recommend propoints. I was able to have a great weekend of eating and drinking because we had guests and I just tried to keep on track. I went over by about 40 points (so I had 89 weeklies instead of 49) because we went out for a meal, but I’ve just tried to eat under by 8 points every day to try and undo the damage before weigh in on Friday.

I don’t know why I keep trying every other diet under the sun when I know this one works for me. I think that I self sabotage sometimes as I’m such an emotional eater. I really need to try and break down my eating habits and change my behaviour as it’s very destructive. If I drank alcohol with the same attitude that I apply to my food, I would be classed as an alcoholic. Food is my crutch but also something I use to punish myself with. And I blame it for everything. It’s really unhealthy.

Great thread.
I was 13st 4 on Jan 2nd and am down to 11stone 10 as of yesterday.
I've been using My Fitness Pal to track calories.
I binge eat rich tea fingers regularly but better than a choc digestive binge.

I've found that a huge bowl of thawed frozen raspberries and a muller light and maybe an Oatibix or a handful of oats is a really sustaining breakfast.

Idk how you ladies manage 500cal fast days. I get so hangry.

justanotheruser18 · 13/03/2018 12:17

@SolitudeSometimesIs I'm also addicted to choc rice cakes like you. They were once on offer in Waitrose and I've never looked back.

Pomegranatepompom · 13/03/2018 16:21

Amazing loss Sol Also really well done on your loss rachey I think it's normal for this last bit to be slow. It is frustrating though. Try not to be too upset re the card, there would be no ill intent, they just have funny little moods. Must be hard being 4 !

Where are you thinking of going on your hols Sol ? How was your weekend? Hope you had lots of fun.You sound so motivated by pro points. Great idea to cut but by 8 points to reclaim your weekend meal.

I identify a lot with what you said, I definitely see food as a 'treat'

Justanother That's an amazing loss. Super well done. I don't ever do 500 fast days, I probably come in at 800. I end to eat breakfast as late as poss (ie lunchtime) greek yogurt and fruit approx 200 cals. soup mid afternoon 200 cals and aim for 300 cal dinner (stir fry (chicken breast wish salad) which leaves 100 cals for emergency use...

How are you green ?

Sorry not linked my shopping, I'll try to tonight.
Lost 1lb this week, would have been more if I had not fallen into several glasses of prosecco followed by cocktails and snacks at the weekend Blush

SolitudeSometimesIs · 14/03/2018 11:51

Fantastic weight loss Just, I love chocolate rice cakes and a cup of strong coffee mid morning. It is so filling and tasty.

Great news on the 1lb weight loss with all the prosecco and cocktails Pom! I’d see that as a win. Are you having any fast days this week?

I’m definitely feeling motivated. I have found some snacks that I like that don’t break the points bank and I’m not picking at food as much. I’m having a big lunch and big dinner so my afternoon snacking has stopped.

We haven’t picked where we’re going on holiday, somewhere warm with a pool and a beach nearby. I want an apartment or a villa as DS2 is quite regimented about food so I can get all his favourites in. I don’t mind cooking on holidays, I know it annoys some, but it will be easier in the long run. And it means DH can make his epic beach picnics which are like a sandy banquet 😂

justanotheruser18 · 15/03/2018 04:19

😂🍷 sandy banquet.
All these talks of holidays sound blissful.
It is 4am and the baby is awake and I would like to dive into one of the Easter eggs my FIL brought round last weekend

SolitudeSometimesIs · 15/03/2018 09:07

How old is your baby Just? Did you manage to stay away from the Easter eggs?

Weigh in day tomorrow for me. I’ve woken up today with a crappy head cold and sore throat, I feel miserable.

OP posts:
Greenrabbit · 15/03/2018 10:18

Hi everyone.
Fantastic weight losses. Welcome Just.

I finally managed to lose the weight I put on at half term, plus an extra pound. That brings it to 9lb altogether (still loads to lose).

I got over my huff about the ‘social’ (eating) events! Only one left to do tomorrow and I feel more in control about what I’ll eat.

I’m quite enjoying the new Weight Watchers plan.

I will catch up properly tonight.

justanotheruser18 · 15/03/2018 14:59

Anyone ever give Slimming World a go? I see here Weight Watchers is the plan of choice. Why did you choose that one?

SolitudeSometimesIs · 16/03/2018 11:07

9lbs is amazing Green. Congratulations!!!! I hope you enjoy your event tomorrow.

Weigh in day for me. I lost another 4lb so 8lbs in 2 weeks. I’m very happy.

Just I tried SW but I found there’s was too much carbs and the portion sizes could be huge. I added up the points of a syn free meal as if it were propoints and it came out as 19. I know I don’t have the self control for small portions so at least WW exerts some of that control for me.

I bought a pair of non stretch jeans this morning. I had to go up to a size 18 (the 16s fitted but I preferred the way the 18’s looked) so I feel a bit better about how I look. I could t get them over my thighs previously.

OP posts:
Greenrabbit · 16/03/2018 11:30

Thanks Sol. Congratulations on your 8lb! So happy for you.

I’m planning to eat lunch quite late today and just pick at low point items at the party.

Still feeling optimistic. I’m might really try to push myself to lose another 12lb by the end of April.

That’s great about the jeans. I haven’t bought non stretch since before I had children. What type did you get?
I think I’ve came to terms with never being skinny so I was pleased to see that Levi’s are now doing more plus sized clothes.

Just. I agree with Sol about SW. Plus think WW is more flexible overall.
I tried both SW online and WW online last year. Failed miserably at both! (I put loads of weight on last year). So I knew I’d do better if I went to a class every week.
I find the WW classes to be quite motivating. The talk seems to help me focus on the week ahead.
Many years ago I went to a SW group and they went round the whole group discussing what everyone had lost/gained. It was really boring and not helpful. (This might not be the case for every SW group).

justanotheruser18 · 16/03/2018 12:05

Thanks @SolitudeSometimesIs and @Greenrabbit I never understood the portion thing either with SW.. eat til you're full is the message. And fill up on 'free speed foods'. Idk. People seem to shed tons of weight with the plan on Instagram.

I found the SW meeting 'how much did you lose, why, what's your target' circle time so dull too. I think if they made it into more of a convo between the group it might be better, but as it was, I wanted to gauge my eyes out.

Great news about the jeans. No stretch is quite something.

justanotheruser18 · 16/03/2018 12:05

Also well done Sol on your weight loss!! So inspiring. And Green, I hope you continue on plan today and at your party. You're doing great.

justanotheruser18 · 16/03/2018 12:07

Oh and sorry for the spam. @SolitudeSometimesIs my baby is 7 months. I resisted the eAster egg but ate about 12 Digestive Thins.

Saw you were feeling poorly earlier in the week. Hope that didn't amount to anything horrid xx

SolitudeSometimesIs · 17/03/2018 08:37

My jeans were from Penney’s (Primark in England) and they were just bog standard straight legged jeans. The 16’s fitted great but they were a bit tight around my calves, I have the legs of a rugby player, so the 18’s were just a bit looser. I will just wear them with a belt for the time being and hopefully move down to a 16 soon. The sizes in Penney’s aren’t terribly reliable but I was so happy to get out of stretchy jeans, my legs look super long in straight legs with a pair of heels.

How was your event last night Green? Did you manage to stay on plan?

Well done on avoiding the Easter eggs Just. I think sugary snacks are essential when you have a baby, it can be only thing that keeps you going.

Racheyg · 18/03/2018 10:07

Morning everyone.

I well and truly fell off the diet train, have put a silly amount of weight on. What's the saying........you have to fall all the way to the bottom to come up? Or something like that.

I'm so happy for all of your weight losses.

Welcome just congrats on your weight loss and 7 month old baby.

I don't think weight watchers is for me. I think I'm gonna go back to my fitness pal and calorie counting

SolitudeSometimesIs · 19/03/2018 10:54

I fell off my plan a bit this weekend too Rachey. We got very heavy snow and our water and electricity was cut off, so I ate two takeaways 🙈

I have water and electricity today so I’m cooking up some healthy meals for the rest of the week. Too afraid to weigh myself. Really looking forward to a shower though.

OP posts:
Greenrabbit · 19/03/2018 14:35

I also fell off plan this weekend. Just because I’m greedy!

Avoiding the scales today.

Racheyg · 20/03/2018 09:52

I have a really crazy food orientated week so I'm not even going to bother.

Next Monday I will start fresh.

sol great news about the jeans, i only wear Lycra stretch every now and then now. I have 3 pairs if Levi's that don't stretch and they are so much more flattering.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 22/03/2018 04:15

DS2 is going through a period of no sleep. He has been awake since 12.15 and it’s after 4 now. I am falling apart. It’s been over two weeks of this and I am ready to collapse. DH is being a complete prat and while making all the right sympathetic noises, isn’t helping. He went out for drinks tonight so is snoring in bed, the noise is filling me with rage.

I have to be up for work in two and a half hours 😭😭😭

I feel so sick, like proper jet lag sick, my diet hasn’t been too bad but I’m over my points by a few every day. I’m not weighing in this week, I don’t think I could handle any gain.

Sorry for the big self indulgent rant, but I’m feeling very sorry for myself. I hope everyone else is getting on better than me.

OP posts:
SolitudeSometimesIs · 22/03/2018 04:20

Actually I’ve probably been a bit unfair to Dh. He makes me go to bed early and does whatever housework needs to be done and he can’t do the nights as he is driving massive distances for work at the moment and it would be really unsafe to do that on no sleep.

But he’s still a prat because he is snoring away and I am trying to get a hyper 4 year old to stop singing at the top of his lungs and go to sleep.

OP posts:
Racheyg · 22/03/2018 10:32

Oh sol that sounds awful, is there anything that calms him down?

SolitudeSometimesIs · 23/03/2018 06:49

Hi Rachey, nothing works to help him relax, he’s not crying or anything, he’s just wide awake. We had a better night last night so I got some sleep, but I also had a takeaway because I couldn’t bear to cook, so the scales can stay hidden today.

I hope everyone has a good day. And it’s Friday, yay!
