It’s been 6 years since the first New Mums thread but this year will be the one where we get skinny for Christmas!

We’ve tried pretty much every diet going and have supported each other through the good times and the bad. This will be our year, motivation is high and panic has set in.

Sol amazing will power with the cocktails and ice creams !
Enjoy your beach day.

I'm weighing in tomorrow but I'm not optimistic, I've just not been strait enough.

Have a good Monday everyone.

Racheyg · 14/05/2018 09:16

sol total respect to you for avoiding the cocktails and ice cream you are a far stronger woman than me.

Glad the flight and everything went ok. Sounds like the 4 of you are going to have an excellent time. I'm glad your not worrying about the beach, just have a great time and relax.

pom fingers crossed for weigh in tomorrow You haven't had that bad of week have you? And you back running. What on the plan for today?

green I love his book, I make the turkey burgers (a lot) also the sweet potato and back bean burritos but the rake a lot of prep and time. I've also baked a lot of his stuff too. You do miss the moistness butter and sugar give but they taste ok.

Sounds like a great plan to enjoy and not stress to much before holiday. When are you off?

I have got Instagram but I don't use it and haven't been on for over 18 months. I'm not really great with social media.

I'm trying to get back on it today. But I feel awful, and I've got a full week at work which I'm not looking forward to. Things are so bad there at the mo, but I can't seem to find anything that is even remotely the same.

Pomegranatepompom · 14/05/2018 16:51

Do insta rachey !

Would you consider a different job? Could you transfer to another dept? I hope you week goes as well as it can.

I'm trying hard today, 350 cals so far. I did a lot of snacking at the weekend, I was still under calories but I can only seem to lose weight if I'm really strict !

Hope your beach day went well Sol
I was inspired by your insta pic in which you look so lovely green to try red lipstick. I looked like I's eaten a jam doughnut - messily.

Pomegranatepompom · 14/05/2018 17:50

Pa new thread title more season appropriate?

Pomegranatepompom · 14/05/2018 17:50

Ps!

Greenrabbit · 14/05/2018 22:03

That all sounds wonderful Sol.
The salad stuff and fruit is always much nicer in Spain anyway, it’s much more of a treat. Enjoy your time away.

I will have to try the burgers Rachey. I used to make the ones from the ‘Cook yourself thin’ book (does anyone remember that tv show?). Even DH loved them.
I’ve heard good things about the burritos. I did think that some things looked like they would take ages. The talk of poaching a skinless chicken crown put me off looking at the chicken recipes. Where do you buy one?
I did quickly make the frittata tonight. I had a piece and it was lovely. I’ll have the rest fro breakfast/lunch this week.

I hope you feel better soon and that work goes quickly for you this week. Could you visit a career advisor to find out your options?
Lots of people round my area work for the civil service and they seem very flexible.

You can start a new thread if you can think of the title Pom!
It sounds like today has gone well?

Thank you for being so kind about the picture. It’s from 2 years ago and I’m completely off makeup at the moment. A red lip would be out of the question.
I think it might be Mac Russian red which I believe is supposed to suit most people (I might be making that up). It’s much nicer than Ruby woo. I found that more I wore bright lipstick around the house the easier it was to get used to how I looked. It’s tricky getting the shade right though.

Still feeling pretty down about things at the moment. I’m not sure if it’s hormonal or mild depression. I’m going to try to remember to take the Angus Cactus tablets and maybe St. John’s wort

I rarely go to the GP and ours has just retired. The new one doesn’t seem very nice and I wouldn’t want to speak to her about it. We need to find a new practice.

Racheyg · 15/05/2018 08:27

Morning all,

green I'm sorry to hear your not feeling so great, it does help to talk. Do you think visiting a homeopath would work? I've never, but I know lots of people that have and have felt lots better (whether it was medical or how the felt within themselves) please feel free to talk on here or pm if need be.

I think I do need a new career, civil service jobs are hard to come by here very wanted I think. I will look into it further though.

pom what title did you have in mind? Weren't a few titles thrown around a while back? I'm with you on the strict all or nothing. That's why weightvwatchers ect don't work. I'm an all or nothing girl.

How did you cal in take go yesterday? Well done to making it late afternoon on 350 cals. I think my cal in take was about 1000 not the best but I have strep throat and feeling pretty awful and needed a little comfort.

I can't change departments pom were small and tbh I just need a change, I'm so scared though, 15 years is a long time in the same job. And I need to give 8 weeks notice Confused

Pomegranatepompom · 15/05/2018 09:20

rachey Would you consider an NHS job? I know a few people who have gone in at admin level and worked up to a manager position quite quickly.
You were in central London don't you? So there are always A&C jobs advertised. I would imagine you have lots of transferable skills. 15 years is a long time, but it could be the best thing you do... Have you considered working in HR? Or PA work for a clinical service? Or do you want to retrain? How about occupational therapy?
And rejoin Insta ! You'll be able to post wedding stuff for us to check out !
Sorry to hear your throat, you definitely need more calories when ill.

Sorry to hear you are struggling Green I second what rachey said. Also give the Agnus cactus a try (I might too). Sounds like you need a new GP, or could you see someone else in the practice or the practice nurse?
I remember on the thread a while back we talked about CBT and mindfulness, sounds like we could all doing with a helping hand.

You really suit red lipstick. I think I need a red with blue undertones, I have purchased several and none are quite the colour I want. I think I've got the MAC Russian red, will try and dig it out.
I also think frittata sounds a good idea and might make one or the smoked salmon egg muffins, I'll take them in for lunch.

As predicted I have put on a lb, going to try and have a strict week.

Hope you are having a fab holiday Sol

Potential titles

Not so new Mums, the summer of thin
Not so new Mums, the skinny summer thread
Not so new Mums, this is definitely going to be our summer
Not so New Mums, this summer we are going to do it

Sorry, not feeling too inspired/witty this morning !

Greenrabbit · 15/05/2018 11:45

Thanks for your advice Pom and Rachey.
I think I’ll give the Angus Cactus a try first then look into the other ideas. Good idea about the practice nurses, they are nice and I think one is a nurse practitioner.
I think I let things build up too much, then it all feels too much to handle. I also beat myself up too much about my size.
Mindfulness etc is also a good idea.

Anyway the sun is shining and I’ve made a massive dent in the mountain of housework.
I think I’ve got most of my holiday clothes sorted. I’ve also booked some beauty treatments for next week. I haven’t done pre holiday beautician visits for about 10 years.

I hope you feel better soon Rachey, do you have antibiotics? Throat infections are awful. Look after yourself.
Did you cancel WW? I need to, just realised I’m still paying them .

Good idea about NHS jobs. Its difficult to know what to do. Everything I like the look of requires a new degree and I don’t think I can be bothered.
Although I have been looking at becoming a registrar. That seems interesting.

Did you have a nice run Pom? It looks tranquil.
There are woods behind our estate that everyone walks/runs through. It’s never occurred to me to try!
You should have another play around with lipsticks today.

The frittata is lovely. Im having some for lunch with salad. The muffins look good too

I’ll have a think about thread titles.

Pomegranatepompom · 15/05/2018 13:48

You do seem to be too hard on your self Green Try to concentrate on what makes you happy. When things seem too much, can you ry and break down whatever is bothering you into smaller pieces and tackle it bit by bit?

I think we should try harder with being healthy and strong. I do wonder if we made a massive effort if we could get to goal for Christmas. We've been faffing around for years Grin Maybe we need a quick start. Shall we do something together for 2 weeks. I hear good things about the blood sugar diet?

Well done on the house work, I've been trying to declutter but I've decided to spend my last hour being the school run reading Smile
Also well done on the beauty treatments, maybe make them a regular treat?

Re NHS, it's so hard to get good A&C staff, so when someone good does join, they tend to rise through the ranks very quickly.

I am such a slow reluctant runner but I always feel good afterwards, having someone nice to run really helps. I also like the time to myself. You should try a walk/run in your woods. I find if really lifts my mood.
I really want to do something about worrying too much, I think I have a touch of anxiety too, I have improved as the years have gone on, but it's such a waste of head space. I am trying to take my own advice and do what I want more. ie someone wanted me to visit somewhere, I really didn't want to and so I just said no. I'm still being pressurised but I'm not going to give in (well it's an aim anyway!).

Chicken salad for lunch. Think I'll try and make a frittata later and take for lunch Wed.
Spag bol for dinner but I'll just have veg with mine.

Pomegranatepompom · 15/05/2018 13:49

Sorry that was. a lot of rambling!

Greenrabbit · 17/05/2018 08:02

Good post Pom.
I’ll try to reply properly today. Felt so ill yesterday but sleep seems to have helped.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Racheyg · 17/05/2018 08:17

Morning guys, sorry I'm doing a full week at work at with streptococcus virus still lingering I'm going to bed early.

Will read and catch up.......

Diet not going great and no gym this week. Will start again on Monday Grin

Racheyg · 17/05/2018 08:33

I found a full frontal picture of the dress

The Not So New Mums. Our kids are getting bigger. Christmas weight loss thread. (Edited by MNHQ)
Greenrabbit · 17/05/2018 11:31

It’s beautiful Rachey. Hope you feel better soon.

Pomegranatepompom · 18/05/2018 14:52

Hope you are both feeling better Green and Sol

You look lovely Rachey I think they are both really nice.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 19/05/2018 07:44

Oh Rachey I love that dress. Can you have it tailored so it's really fitted? You have a great figure and cinching in the waist would show it off. I hope you are feeling better, I bet you're glad your week at work is over.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling too good Green, I think a trip to the GP might be a good place to start, even just to talk to someone who is neutral. Sometimes lots of stresses can be so overwhelming, And as Mums we rarely get a break. I hope you have a brilliant holiday, when are you off?

You sound like you're doing great with your running Pom, running in the woods sounds gorgeous. I too have gotten better at saying no over the last few years, I'm not sure if it's an age thing or I feel a bit more confident the more I say it, I'd love to be more confident though.

It's the last day of our holiday. I have eaten so much food and had so much wine. I will be avoiding the scales for the foreseeable future. I had loads of fruit and healthy stuff but not enough to counteract the bad stuff. I went shopping yesterday when DH was in a play zone with the kids and bought a black tube skirt that comes down past my knee and a loose shirt thing for work. I would never have bought them previously because I'd think I'm too fat, but seeing all the people here who are not giving a shit and wearing what they like has really inspired me.

Ugh, I better go and pack. I need staff and a private jet, all this airport stuff is too annoying.

OP posts:
Pomegranatepompom · 20/05/2018 20:12

Sounds like you had a fab time Sol Good news re the clothes, hope your packing wasn't too painful and your journey back went well.

Just seen a pic where I look pregnant. I need to take drastic action !

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 21/05/2018 12:09

Had a weigh in. I put on 8lbs, so not the worst but I need to get working on getting rid of it. I bought loads of good food for my meals during the week. My DH has signed up for a charity half marathon so he's on a diet and work out regime and I'll follow the diet too.

Sorry about the unflattering photo Pom, I feel your pain on that one. Don't let it knock you, you've been doing so well.

OP posts:
Racheyg · 21/05/2018 18:53

Welcome back sol glad you had a good holiday. 8lbs is not bad at all, I can do that in a weekend at home Grin

Thanks for the compliments about the dress. My figure is ok, if that were the dress I was going to get it's a size up so I would need to get it adjusted.

How are you doing pom? Sorry about the photo, was it a bad angle?

green* how are you getting on?

I was meant to get back on my diet today but I failed, I did a spin class and then I've eaten all day Blush I did weigh myself and I'm 10st 5 I'm hoping I can get to 9st before the wedding.

We have picked our wedding menu.....as it's in a pub I wanted pub food so have asked if the could do 4 different types of burgers:
Cheese burger
Buttermilk chicken burger
Veggie burger (which is also vegan)
Fish finger burger

And a option choice of either:
Brownie with chocolate sauce and ice cream
Sticky toffee pudding
Pear and almond tart with clotted ice cream

I'm still waiting for the price per head but hoping not much more than £30.00.

I have attached a picture of how I want my wedding flowers. And attached are the brides made dresses. There were slightly more than wanted to spend but there are gorgeous and they are Vera wang and the girls said they will wear them again.

Pomegranatepompom · 21/05/2018 20:30

8lbs is a good holiday Sol ! Well done on get the healthy food in !

Rachey Your wedding menu looks yum. Love the flowers and your BM dresses too. Do you need to size up? Size looks pretty good on you.

I've definitely put on weight. I thinking about doing something strict for 2 weeks to get a kick start.

Racheyg · 21/05/2018 20:43

Thanks pom the dress is a size too big, they clipped it at the back to make it look my size.

It's awful when you feel the weight. What do you think you are going to do? 5:2 ? Bsd ?

I want to join you with a strict two weeks but I have so much going on social wise-
This weekend taking boys away in caravan then on Monday is dc2 3rd birthday.
The week after I'm out
Week after that is my mums 60th birthday party then I'm going to see kasabian

Pomegranatepompom · 21/05/2018 20:47

Ah that's makes sense! I thought you meant you were going to get the next size up.

When could you do a strict 2 weeks? I thinking of doing BSD.
I don't think Ive got a clear 2 weeks but I thought having 1 day off probably wouldn't be too bad??

SolitudeSometimesIs · 21/05/2018 21:23

Your menu sounds lovely Rachey. Are you having a sit down meal? I would love that sort of food at a wedding, it beats soggy slices of ham and turkey that seems to be standard here. Those dresses are beautiful, I love the colour, what shoes will the bridesmaids be wearing?

What's BSD Pom? It sounds a bit like a bowel disorder Grin. You could all join me with James Duncan diet? I will be starting that next week for two weeks. I'm avoiding carbs this week as a start. And alcohol.

Today's diet was OK. I had a spinach melt thing for dinner with a salad and I had soup and a few nuts for lunch. I'm really missing an evening glass of wine, but I know I'll never lose my holiday gut if I don't stop indulging. I have a massive spare tyre over my jeans, it's awful.

OP posts:
Pomegranatepompom · 21/05/2018 21:44

Blood sugar diet Sol I just dug out my book though and I can't be bothered with all the cooking and food prep.

I'm sure some of the weight will be false carb/alcohol weight.Tempted by James Duncan diet, I am out next Friday though. I could do with starting something now. had about 1000 cals today.
