I'd say three times a week is a good number of times to exercise. I do three classes a week and then sometimes a run and or an additional class.

TVHubbyClaire · 18/10/2017 09:04

Hi Donald

Hope you have a nice time in Edinburgh, we are staying at the Holiday In at zoo. Not fancy but free parking, swimming pool for DS and me and pretty reasonably priced with a busy but reasonable breakfast buffetHmm

Our favourite restaurant is Vietnam House Smile in Grove Street which is a small BYOB place, nothing fancy but we love the food and its the only place we know where we can get what we like. This time we are also going to Contini in George Street. I am not a huge fan of most Italian restaurants but this place got such a good review from Joanna Blythman that we felt we had to try.

No major plans for weekend other than swimming, shopping and a walk up Arthur's seat

Weighed in at 12st 6 this morning....I am imagining getting to the 11s but thats very optimistic

TVHubbyClaire · 18/10/2017 09:10

hairspray I agree with pebbles.

I found when i was getting exercise and running regularly that three times a week is much better than two times a week.

I also play badminton twice most weeks but although i get a sweat up it feels more like a stiff walk rather than an exerting run or training session.

All my exercise seems to be of the low impact variety right now whether its walking to get step numbers up or badminton. I think I need to do a bit more Hmm

ponygirlcurtis · 18/10/2017 09:22

I don't think there is a magic amount, Hairspray - whatever works for you that you can stick to. Three times a week sounds great, if you can do it. I am doing very little at the moment but I am going away at the weekend so hoping to get in lots of bracing beach walks.

11st dead this morning, really pleased - and beginning to think that my perspective is slowly changing and that the choices I make are important - Yes slow to the party I know. Yesterday was a 16:8 and had an awesome dinner at 5:30pm of two amp chops, braised red cabbage, roasted broccoli and quarter of a sweet potato in "chips" portion was about a third of what I used to eat: would have been double the red cabbage, the whole set potato and three chops - realising that I get the same satisfaction with less food, eaten slowly and no indigestion!!!!

This week has been a meal out - and a cake for dinner, and I managed to stay the same - also TOTM finished on Sunday and I have never lost that week, its almost like my body recalibrates itself for the next three weeks, loose between 1-2lbs for three weeks and then stay the same. Will monitor over the next month see if this holds true.

The chart is great niki I have a spreadsheet showing weight loss since the 21st August , 9lbs down which is about a pound a week - very motivational!!

Keep going ladies 14 days left!!!

NikiBabe · 18/10/2017 10:15

Boditrax is awesome. Although my weightloss has plateaued at the moment Boditrax shows my fat mass is still dropping so if not losing weight, still losing fat and maybe gaining muscle.

Still 10st dead. Oh well. Id be happy just tp be 9st something.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/10/2017 10:19

Hello all! Remember me?

I'm crazy busy at the moment with work and nicer things and only half focused on diet. I am sort of STS though so it's not a disaster. Life keeps getting in the way.

Will go and read back when I get a second. I need this thread to keep me focused but when I'm not focused I avoid the thread. I'm a bit bonkers!

I used to notice that Plum! But since I switched up my birthcontrol in April - was on copper coil now on hormonal my AF has been all over the place and I have had much more difficulty losing!

plumstone · 18/10/2017 10:48

Hair I am worried on the whole contraception thing - doc has informed me that at 41 almost 42 I need to change my pill for age related reasons - WTAF!!! I love the pill it works for me I have no side effects (including weight gain), have been on it for 20 years pretty much and really don't want to change - Will be polling friends to see what they say about the coil - one so far has been very positive, however I am not sure - I hate change, Someone else has said she was on it and put on a stone in a couple of months - I am not keen on weight gain that fast that is out of my control!!!!

QuimReaper · 18/10/2017 10:51

Donald there's a whole bunch of us on the FitBit challenge, want to join? @leesmum is the Godfather of the group, she'll be able to sort you right out!

I don't eat my exercise calories, no. I remember when I first started trying to lose weight in about 2013 and was trying to stick to 1200 on MFP, I was so dismayed when someone on Mumsnet told me I wasn't supposed to be eating back my exercise Grin I agree FitBit is very generous on calories, I don't trust it at all.

Such a good feeling when you smash a milestone Gower, keep plugging for it!

NikiBabe · 18/10/2017 11:35

I eat some of my exercise calories and my fat mass has still dropped constantly.

One of the PTs told me 1200 cals isnt even enough for your basal metabolism so I go for about 1400-1500 as i exercise daily and also cycle and walk everywhere.

If fitbits are higher then they are most accurate. Apparently th3 body would need about 1300 cals a day to sustian vital functions if you were in a coma.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 18/10/2017 13:23

Hello all! I'm still plodding along here. Fast day for me today, aiming for 500 calories or so.

Plumstone I had the mirena coil put in a couple of months ago and haven't had any side effects or weight gain.

plumstone · 18/10/2017 13:34

Thanks SandS that is reassuring to know!!!

HairsprayBabe · 18/10/2017 13:37

My coil is a lower hormone dose than the marina, but I have still lost alot of weight on it.

When I said april earlier I realised I meant April 2016.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/10/2017 14:43

I just have to rush in and boast in my DP’s behalf. He made mulligatawny soup for lunch using the leftover beef from Sunday lunch. If I say it was delicious that is an understatement. I’m stuffed and all for less than 200 calories.

Hi all. Very good gym session this morning. The weather here is so miserable today that all I fell like eating is comfort food. Anyone else get that? Contemplating making vegetarian sausage toad in the hole with mash and gravy for dinner Smile.

Softpebbles · 18/10/2017 15:38

Niki everyone's BMR is different and theoretically when you work out your BMR it is calculated on how active you put your lifestyle so although for you eating back calories is working for others this could perhaps be why they are not losing weight as their BMR already includes their activity.

In addition muscle uses more calories so therefore you can probably eat a bit more as your muscle is using the calories whereas someone like me who still has a good proportion of fat needs less calories as you have to burn off the fat

Something like that - I knew what I meant - perhaps double Dutch to everyone else 🙈

NikiBabe · 18/10/2017 15:43

@softpebbles i hadn't considered the muscle burning more.

Silly mare I am.

Boditrax is showing a gain but AF is due over the weekend so we will put it down to water weight. Hopes.

QuimReaper · 18/10/2017 22:08

I've got the cheese guilt.

Was making a cheese sauce and out more in my mouth than in the sodding pan Blush

I am holding our upstairs neighbours PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE. They went on holiday and for some reason had about half a tonne of Emmental which they donated to us. I never buy it and wasn't sure what to do with it, and the Internet suggested it made a good cheese sauce. Well, it DOESN'T. Bland bland bland. I kept adding more and more and it wasn't helping so I decided to add some cheddar to try and get it moving, and... well, you can't just leave a little bit of cheddar, can you.

Blush

Oh well. At least the meal around the cheese was just veg and I'd been golden until then...

QuimReaper · 18/10/2017 22:09

BOOP I don't think I've even tried Mulligatawny let alone made it! Will he share the recipe with us?

NikiBabe · 18/10/2017 22:19

I was doing so well today. On 1300 odd cals. Then i gorged on chocolate and crisps and ended up at 1800 cals

Shit. Do you think the exercise will offset the damage?

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 18/10/2017 22:38

Niki that's a lot of exercise! Shock I'd definitely say that will cancel out the chocolate and crisps.

My fast day failed but I'm still coming in at about 1200 calories, or just under. I'm not feeling super motivated at the moment. Why is it so hard and boring?

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 18/10/2017 22:43

Ah Quim, I know cheese guilt well! There are worse things to eat though, and at least your bones will be grateful for all that calcium! Or that's what I tell myself
