Lose a stone for Christmas - 14lb in 14 weeks

FireflyGirl · 10/09/2017 19:56

I have struggled in the past to find the motivation to lose weight. I found it quite unexpectedly last November thanks to a 'lose a stone by Christmas' thread. However, I'm a slow loser and 8 weeks wasn't long enough for me to lose a stone. I managed it by the end of January, but then had a family bereavement and I've struggled to get back on track since. But I would really like to lose some more weight.

What helped me last year was the accountability of being on a thread. I controlled my calories using My Fitness Pal, but it was so helpful having other people to talk to who were having the same struggles.

So, if anyone would like to join me, I'd be grateful for some company. 14 pounds in 14 weeks takes us to 7 days before Christmas.

I weighed in this morning and I was 10 8.8. I will stick with a Sunday morning weigh-in as I take DS swimming so can use the scales there.

I plan to use MFP, cut out snacks and make good decisions on my meals to stay within my calorie allowance.

Ugh. Weighed myself today and after having a "more relaxed" attitude over the weekend, I've gained 2lbs! So still down 1.6lbs over the week, but not the cracking 3.6 that I was on track for. I know why - two meals out and plenty of wine, but still...

KeiraTwiceKnightley · 18/09/2017 17:25

I've had a pretty good few days after a bit of a greedy Friday. Saturday ate v little until the evening then had homemade Malaysian curry, rice and prawn crackers . Sunday I ran 3 miles on the treadmill but only ate one meal - it was a carvery and a significant (ahem) portion but had no pud and didn't eat again until 11am this morning. Today Greek yoghurt for breakfast, fruit salad with feta cheese for lunch, a handful of almonds and a bit of ham and Philly as a snack. Tea will be steamed veg and rice plus a few prawns.

And I'm STILL 11st 7. Bugger.

Just wondering what people think if it's possible to still have takeaways and lose weight?
I'm wondering if you had for e.g. A pizza and cut back all week so you were under the Calories would you loose weight ?

CbeebiesAddict · 18/09/2017 19:09

Can I please join? Just tried on my Christmas PJs and I realise I have put on quite a bit of weight since last year 😥

Need to get some scales and then I can confirm actual weight and target weight :)

FireflyGirl · 18/09/2017 19:58

Sillysausage as long as you are keeping to a calorie deficit, then there's no reason you shouldn't lose weight (except perhaps water retention if it's a salty takeaway).

Pizzas are incredibly high calorie, though, and I think to work up enough of a deficit you'd probably have a pretty miserable rest of the week, which may make you more likely to give up or over indulge. Youll know if it would work for you, but personally I'd have a small portion instead, so that I could enjoy it but not have to deprive myself for 6.5 days as I'd just go off the rails.

I had takeaway curry on Saturday night, and finished it for lunch on Sunday. It's obviously an estimate, but MFP calculated 400cals for the half curry. I had it with poppadoms and rice for under 600 cals, and had a good loss yesterday. I wouldn't do it often though - there's not usually a lot of nutrition in takeaways.

Today I've had:
B shreddies with almond milk
L: bread and hummus, salad and a Falafel (lunch was supposed to be Falafel salad but I had some work done at the dentist this morning and I didn't fancy it)
D: beef with broccoli, done in the slow cooker
Snacks: curly wurly squirlies

Within my calories, just, but I've been pottering around sorting so I've actually had quite an active day.

Waves madly back at firefly Grin

Pizza is one of the highest calorie takeaways sausage so I would either avoid or pick a different one :) Homemade pizza is delicious of that is a possibility?

My huge weakness is snacks in the evening when DS is in bed. Hopefully having to report back to all of you will be the motivation I need!

CbeebiesAddict · 18/09/2017 20:12

Scales being delivered tomorrow morning :)

Carriemac · 18/09/2017 20:14

I'm in.13.3 this morning which is far too much for me

twinklestar2 · 18/09/2017 21:34

Can I join please? Was 10st 12 this morning. Food has been ok today but could be better.

I generally low carb which works for me.

14 weeks today is Xmas day!

CbeebiesAddict · 19/09/2017 12:13

New scales reveal I am 11.6 :( Used to be 10 so a stone by Christmas would be fab. Is everyone using MFP?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 19/09/2017 13:11

I'm not using MFP. I don't cut cores bur try to eat low carb if possible.

Weight this morning is 11 6 which means I've lost the 6lbs I managed to pile on when on holiday. So I really think I should start my stone loss from here as otherwise I am already half way there, as I weighed 11: 12 last Monday Blush

I am therefore aiming at 10 6 by Christmas. Gulp. It might be easier from next week as DS2 goes off to uni so there will be less crap/snacks in the house.

Food yesterday was:
B - hardboiled egg and a slice of ham
L - Cheese salad
D - odds and ends from fridge stuffed into my face when I got back from the gym - I did 2 hours of classes stright after work and came home starving.

CbeebiesAddict · 19/09/2017 13:15

Wow fab work Emma!

HarrietBasset · 19/09/2017 13:51

6lbs off is brilliant Emma!

I'm back in it today after my weekend away.

B - porridge with almond milk and berries

L - Vegetable soup and yogurt

D - Salmon salad

Some chocolate or two biscuits and a alpro hot chocolate this evening. Once the kids are in bed.

FireflyGirl · 19/09/2017 14:27

I use it, CBeebies. I found it a really good way of keeping myself on track.

Welcome to Carrie and twinkle

Well done on the amazing loss, Emma! That's great!

Looks very healthy, Harriet Grin

Firefly I am desperately trying to compensate for a indulgent weekend. It's not normally this healthy! I'm out to eat both nights this weekend too so I'm trying to limit damage.
To be honest I think I'll be lucky just to maintain this week.

HillaryWinshaw · 19/09/2017 15:42

I'm using MFP, CBeebies. I don't particularly like the appearance/feel of it, but it does what it says on the tin...

IheartCaptainHolt · 19/09/2017 18:17

Another 2lb down so that's 4.5lb since the thread started. I'll be happyish with 1 stone off by xmas but would rather have 1.5 or 2 stone. I've done 7lb a month for the last three months, not sure how long I can keep that up for but got another 2/2.5 stone to lose to get to target.

KeiraTwiceKnightley · 19/09/2017 19:25

Checking in from the gym while I wait for my DD - currently trampolining. I've just run on the treadmill for 30 mins - hard today but I think I'm tired today. Had a good day calorie wise today - I did have an indulgent "banquet bap" from the school canteen at 11am (sausage bacon and hash brown!) but only an apple at lunchtime and two slices of ham rolled round a dollop of Philly. I'll have scrambled eggs on toast plus some fruit when o get back and that will do me.

Some great losses being reported. Keep it up!

FireflyGirl · 19/09/2017 20:39

That's still a good goal to have, Harriet.

Well done Captain Holy, that's really good going! Just imagine how much you're going to lose by Christmas!

Enjoy your scrambled eggs, Keira.

B: shreddies with almond milk, an apple
L: Falafel salad with hummus and an oatcake
D: chicken tacos
S: curly wurly squirlies

Well within my calories today. I haven't had a chance to eat anything else!

twinklestar2 · 19/09/2017 20:46

Thanks for the welcome! X

Menu planned for tomorrow -

Eggs
Chicken salad with olives
Moussaka
Strawbs and cream with dark chocolate

That's 919 cals on MFP

Sillysausage123 · 19/09/2017 20:52

Has anyone got a cheaper version of Fitbit they can recommend?

IheartCaptainHolt · 19/09/2017 21:01

Thanks Firefly. I'm doing SW and the weekly weigh in is proving to be far more motivating than I thought it would.

I think hope I'm becoming one of those people who doesn't like unhealthy food.

Movablefeast · 19/09/2017 21:47

Weighed myself yesterday: I started at 147.7 and was 145.6 yesterday so right around 2lb. I might have dropped a bit more but it was my birthday on Saturday and I indulged a bit. Dessert at the restaurant was coconut gelato with sherry poured over it! Sounds so weird but was very nice - although despite our efforts DH and I couldn't finish it as we had stuffed ourselves before hand. Ended up with quite a lot of leftovers to take home.

I am keeping on, keeping on.

Week 1. 147.7 (10.55 stone)
Week 2. 145.6 (10.4 stone)

Firefries · 20/09/2017 01:34

Weighing in. I went from 167.9 up to 169 in a week. I don't get it. I am clocking in under my calories each day and exercising 4-5 days a week. I'll keep going.

KeiraTwiceKnightley · 20/09/2017 06:43

Fireflies, I put weight on to begin with and it is coming off but soooo slowly now. Frustrating. I'm putting it down to exercise - I think the muscle building is meaning that the weight loss is slower but it's real weight loss not water iykwim. And I am losing inches - a skirt that needed control pants last week fit fine yesterday. I'm just having to keep telling myself tho - it is a bit disheartening.
