Lose a stone for Christmas - 14lb in 14 weeks

FireflyGirl · 10/09/2017 19:56

I have struggled in the past to find the motivation to lose weight. I found it quite unexpectedly last November thanks to a 'lose a stone by Christmas' thread. However, I'm a slow loser and 8 weeks wasn't long enough for me to lose a stone. I managed it by the end of January, but then had a family bereavement and I've struggled to get back on track since. But I would really like to lose some more weight.

What helped me last year was the accountability of being on a thread. I controlled my calories using My Fitness Pal, but it was so helpful having other people to talk to who were having the same struggles.

So, if anyone would like to join me, I'd be grateful for some company. 14 pounds in 14 weeks takes us to 7 days before Christmas.

I weighed in this morning and I was 10 8.8. I will stick with a Sunday morning weigh-in as I take DS swimming so can use the scales there.

I plan to use MFP, cut out snacks and make good decisions on my meals to stay within my calorie allowance.

@Sillysausage123 I love Total Greek Yoghurt 0% fat yoghurt. Aldi do a good knock-off too. It's just yoghurt so you might want to add a bit of honey.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 16/09/2017 09:47

And I've bought a couple of sistema yoghurt tubs so I can take yoghurt to work for lunch

Sillysausage123 · 16/09/2017 09:53

Thank you will have them a try

JugglingMummyof2 · 16/09/2017 16:11

I would like to join too. After a really lovely summer I hit an all time high of 9st 11lbs which is a long long way from my happy weight of 8st 13lbs. Weight seems to be harder to drop after holidays as I get older so this thread will keep me on the straight and narrow.
On the yogurt question I love Liberte natural yogurt with fresh fruit and a little compote - healthy and yummy too.

Summerdaisyboo · 17/09/2017 09:08

Weighed myself this morning.. down 3lbs so that puts me at 12st 7lbs. Had a very good week, tracking on MFP and walking well over 10,000 steps a day. Did my first 5k yesterday.. took 39 minutes but I fast walked about 80% of it cos I can't run. will see if I can reduce that time this week. Am going away with my mam next weekend for a girlie break so that could be a challenge.. fingers crossed I can resist the cocktails.

twobambinos · 17/09/2017 10:42

Just weighed in and lost 3lbs. I expect it to be much slower from now on but delighted to get off the mark. New weight 10 St 5. I can't wait for the scales to say 9 something again. Hopefully by mid October. I managed to run 3 times this week I hope I can keep up the momentum because it was very hard to get motivated. I find walking much more enjoyable.

Keep up the good work everyone.

TarquinGyrfalcon · 17/09/2017 16:48

Week 1 - 173 lbs
Week 2 - 170.6 lbs
Week 3 - 168.8 lbs

Lots of losses, well done to everyone.

I've been really good with food but haven't been able to do any exercise as I've twisted my knee and just a normal day is making it swell up. Hopefully once it's right again I'll be able to exercise as well.

FireflyGirl · 17/09/2017 17:34

Well done on the losses today everyone! Some great results.

My meals yesterday were:
B: shreddies with almond milk
L: bread and hummus, crisps and an apple
D: Indian curry with poppadoms
Snacks: Dinky Deckers, small glass of prosecco

I was slightly over my calories, but that was expected and planned for so I wasn't disappointed or thrown off plan.

I weighed in this morning and was astounded to find I am down 3.5lbs. That is unheard-of for me.

Starting weight: 10' 8.8
Week 1: 10' 5.2

Next week will be interesting to see if I gain and this week was an anomaly. If not, then I'm so pleased to have gotten off to a great start!

Really pleased with myself to get the first weekend over and done with and not have gone over my MFP calorie allowance. Through the week is when I'm going to struggle though as when the kids are at school I'm bored as anything (I work evenings) and tend to get up and down to the kitchen for crisps/biscuit etc every half hour then I'm too full for lunch, starving later and the snacking starts again Blush Going to try to come up with a plan to keep busy so that doesn't happen. Good luck for this week everyone some fab losses already!

JustTheWayYouAre · 18/09/2017 07:26

I have lost...drum roll please...0.2 lb Grin

Oh well, it's motivated me even more for this week. So ditching the booze completely and aiming for 7 a day before I eat anything else.

HopefullyDothButterNoParsnips · 18/09/2017 07:52

Wahhh I've put a pound on!!!! I'm going to weigh in again later in the week. This has to be water weight as I had a boozy sat (still under cals) and had salty food yesterday to get me through the hangover. 😩

ASDismynormality · 18/09/2017 08:03

I'm going to join too. I would like to lose 21.75lbs in 14 weeks ( am taking it right to Christmas!). That's about 1.5 lbs a week. Doing it LCHF and have already lost 95lbs this year so feel I'm being a bit ambitious but want to get out of the obese BMI range.

18/09 - 212.75

cakeaddict · 18/09/2017 10:54

Hopefully - me too! I'm giving up on scales!! This morning I appear to have put weight ON.

However, the tape measure tells a different story, and I do seem to have lost a couple of cms from waist, hips etc since I started dieting a month ago. My jeans are also feeling looser.

I joined a gym 2 weeks ago and have been going to lots of exercise classes. I wonder if there's something else going on, is water retention due to exercise a thing??

Anyway, I've decided to not step on the scales for the next 4 weeks and just carry on with the new regime without worrying about weight... I think that is probably a healthier approach.

FireflyGirl · 18/09/2017 11:46

cake it could be replacing fat with muscle? I saw that a lot at my SW group.

Welcome, ASD, and well done on the fantastic losses so far!

Hopefully fingers crossed for your weigh in later in the week. Just hang in there, it'll come off!

Just, a loss is a loss. I know it's disheartening when it's not what everyone else is getting you want, but it will come.

ABit Is there anything we can do to help? Or do you know how you're going to approach it?

cakeaddict · 18/09/2017 11:56

firefly hmmm.... tempting to believe that but I'm not sure I've quite been working that hard [also am coveniently denying the existence of the boozy Saturday night out] Wink

JustTheWayYouAre · 18/09/2017 12:51

Thanks Firefly I'm not too worried, it's better than a gain, and I did lose 4lb in my first week so still ahead. Going to try extra hard this week.

peachybeachy · 18/09/2017 13:58

I've just realised that I haven't logged in for 4 days. so here goes

Stayed the same over the weekend but since the 10th of Sep I've lost 3 lbs. Would like to lose 2lbs between now and Friday.

Todays food;
B Apricot wheats and milk
L Scrambled eggs and toast
D fish in parsley sauce with pasta or rice. loads of veg

Tinkhasflown · 18/09/2017 14:08

I didn't have a great weekend at all. We had relatives to stay so we're out all day Saturday and had takeaway when we got back Sat night 😐

I have stuck to my no chocolate rule and have cut out all the junk food, but I don't expect a loss after the weekend. I'm right back on it though.

Congratulations on all the losses. This thread is a great motivation 😀

Tinkhasflown · 18/09/2017 14:11

Hopefully try eating cucumber, it's supposed to be great for water retention, oh and celery apparently!

Pallisers · 18/09/2017 14:19

Can I join you? A week late.

I am 10 12 and only 5 4. My usual weight for my adult life was between 8.5 and 9 stone. Perimenopause and menopause (and overeating) put paid to that.

I am going to cut chocolate/chips/junk. Cut way down on bread (none if possible). I've already given up wine. I've started doing weights twice a week at the gym (need to add in a 3rd or 4th time though) and have been trying to walk for an hour every day (about 4 miles).

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 18/09/2017 14:21

Ooooh count me in.
I started counting calories on MFP on 24th July. I weighed 14 4.8 at 5'8.5". Size 12.
I am now (so 8 weeks later) 12 6.8, so 1 11.0 down. Comfortably a size 10 again.
Started swimming at least 2x a week about 3 weeks ago and have just started doing a Pilates class once a week.
Aiming to get to approx. 10 7.0 by my friends wedding in mid February. That being said, last time I weighed that was about 5 years ago, when I was 18, so it may not 'suit' me now iyswim? I'll reassess at 11 0.0 I think.

Tiredemma · 18/09/2017 14:28

Can I also please join (a week late too so will have my target as New Year!!)

I am 10st 7lbs but only 4ft 11 so chubby to say the least. If I could get a stone of by New year I would be delighted.

I am on MFP and cutting down on bread, pasta, rice, pastries, choc etc.

I have recently started going to the gym more regularly and am signed up for a half marathon in March so need to get moving. My aim is to do 2x spin class a week, 2 x body pump and 2 x run (outdoors).

I have a wardrobe full of clothes that just don't fit. I would ideally like to get to about 8stone 7lbs but this may just be a pipedream!

today I have had
Breakfast- Banana , cup of coffee
Lunch - tuna and egg salad
dinner - bolognaise with sweet potato.

I hope that I will remain consistent if I report to you all!!

twobambinos · 18/09/2017 15:20

Too much chocolate for me today. 😭 I know where I am going wrong tho. I leave too long between meals and then overeat big time. I need to try and have more regular meal times.

Water retention when exercising is definitely a thing. Keep up the good work

HarrietBasset · 18/09/2017 16:09

I've been away this weekend for my dhs birthday and although tried to be a bit sensible no cocktails but gin and slimline etc but still ate far too much and puddings etc. Need to be extra good until weigh in day on Friday to hopefully save the week from being a disaster!
Welcome to newbies and good luck to everyone x

TinyTickler · 18/09/2017 16:12

Yep I'd like to be involved! But I'm going on holiday on Saturday for a week, so I'll be a late starter. Will report on statistics after the damage of a week of pasta and wine in Italy...
