Lose a stone for Christmas - 14lb in 14 weeks

FireflyGirl · 10/09/2017 19:56

I have struggled in the past to find the motivation to lose weight. I found it quite unexpectedly last November thanks to a 'lose a stone by Christmas' thread. However, I'm a slow loser and 8 weeks wasn't long enough for me to lose a stone. I managed it by the end of January, but then had a family bereavement and I've struggled to get back on track since. But I would really like to lose some more weight.

What helped me last year was the accountability of being on a thread. I controlled my calories using My Fitness Pal, but it was so helpful having other people to talk to who were having the same struggles.

So, if anyone would like to join me, I'd be grateful for some company. 14 pounds in 14 weeks takes us to 7 days before Christmas.

I weighed in this morning and I was 10 8.8. I will stick with a Sunday morning weigh-in as I take DS swimming so can use the scales there.

I plan to use MFP, cut out snacks and make good decisions on my meals to stay within my calorie allowance.

So glad you are not going to give up Firefries - without you there wouldn't even be a thread and I wouldn't have started at all. Soup has been a great help to me as it is so filling, warming and comforting on the cold days. I also make a 'thing' with butter beans, veg and passata which is yummy, very filling and low calorie too.
Sending you positive vibes (I would send you flowers but have no idea how to do that on here!).
Today is a brand new day

twinkledag · 14/11/2017 08:08

I’m still here but not doing great, I seem to have one good day and one bad day. Anyway will try again AGAIN today!

Firefries · 14/11/2017 12:06

Thank you Juggling. I'd love to take the credit but I think Firefly started it. We have similar usernames Smile.
Keep going with the soups. I will probably make more soups too.
Anyway I appreciate this thread too, it has helped me to keep on when I have wanted to give up.

SequinRash · 14/11/2017 12:20

I'm veeeeery late but can i join? Mostly just to remind myself to stick with it, lurk and give y'all lovelies some virtual high fives?

IheartCaptainHolt · 14/11/2017 14:59

Another 2.5 lbs lost this week so that’s 1stone 2lb since the thread started!

JugglingMummyof2 · 14/11/2017 18:46

Yes you do have similar user names and I was heading out to work and didn't want you to be discouraged - whoops Blush
Iheart that is amazing - well done.

IheartCaptainHolt · 21/11/2017 10:10

4lb off today! Can’t quite believe it...

twobambinos · 21/11/2017 12:23

Well done i heart that is amazing for one week. Juggling mummy a loss is a loss def better than a gain. Keep up the good work.
I'm still 10st 4. I'm a total disaster. At least it isn't going back up I suppose but I feel like I will never again see 9 anything.Sad I just don't have any willpower at all. Even the Lovely clothes in my wardrobe that are a tiny bit small aren't motivating me. Sad

JugglingMummyof2 · 21/11/2017 18:19

I'm due to weigh in tomorrow morning and currently trying to talk myself out of a slice of chocolate and pear tart that I do not need but desperately want..... it is calling to me but I am drinking my tea and ignoring it....so far..
Well done Iheart - you are an inspiration. Nearly 1.5 stone I think? I would love to lose 4lbs - oooh to be 8st 13.99999999999999999999999. I will settle for any decrease this week as had a lovely weekend (including slices of that choc and pear tart!).
twobambinos - make some soup and use it for lunch for a few days and then weigh again.
Good luck everyone.

OhGood · 22/11/2017 10:31

Quick check in to say I am 1lb down again - this is slow, but it's shifting which is great. I'm Zimbabwean, so have been a bit distracted this week Grin

QuopQuop · 22/11/2017 10:49

I'd like to join! Will weigh myself later but I'm guessing I'm about 12st

Little tip for those of you who finish your kids dinner plates......

I give the kids a small glass of water with food and then when they have finished dinner they pour the remainder of the water over their plate!

I don't pick then! Grin

twobambinos · 22/11/2017 14:42

Thankfully I'm good at not picking the kids dinner. It's the only will power I have.
Weighted again this morning and down to 10st 3. Super delighted I seem to be doing ok this week so far. I do have a treat lunch planned for tomorrow but might try and skip dinner to compensate for it. Or maybe just an apple.

HarrietBasset · 22/11/2017 15:05

I'm hanging in here but have maintained since losing the 2lbs I gained on holiday. There's been lots of meals out and mince pies so I'm not surprised not to have lost. I graduated from c25k and am running 3 times a week now which has perhaps helped with the maintenance!

Well done OhGood and twobambinos (realise my make some soup 'tip' yesterday sounded bossy). Well done on maintaining Harriet.
Onwards and inwards we go Halo

OhGood · 27/11/2017 10:01

And... up a pound.

Bloody hell.

OhGood · 27/11/2017 10:02

I would love your soup / bean-thing / other filling low-cal recipe ideas please!

twobambinos · 27/11/2017 16:37

10st 2 this morning wahoo. Small victories I know and this time last year I would have been horrifued at 10 anything but going in the right direction. Roll on the 9s. Juggling mummy it's always very slow when you are getting close to goal at least it's going in the right direction....

IheartCaptainHolt · 27/11/2017 18:04

I made leek and cannellini bean soup, it was lovely. Onions, garlic and leeks sweated in fry light then add stock and the beans, simmer and blend.

JugglingMummyof2 · 27/11/2017 19:26

Here we are OhGood (and anyone else who is interested). It is a sort of bean and veg stew and I make it in bulk and then freeze it off into portions - there are no measurements and the ingredient list is variable too...
Fry two chopped onions and a few cloves of garlic in olive oil - you will need a bit so it doesn't stick too much. When they have softened add finely sliced carrots, variety of peppers, chopped beans or tbh any veg you have that needs eating - I like the last three as it is sweet and filling. Fry a bit more and then add a can of butter beans and a jar/carton of passata (I also use this as an opportunity to use up open jars/cartons/end of tomato puree tubes etc.) add salt and pepper and let it bubble away for about an hour. It smells divine and tastes lovely too. That is the 'recipe' - from practice I have found that a small jar of Lloyd Grossmans red wine pasta sauce makes it even yummier as I had an open jar the second time I made it and chucked it in. I have it for lunch and it really fills me up.
Hope you like it.

IheartCaptainHolt · 28/11/2017 11:49

Another 2lb off! Only 2.5lb to get my 3 stone award now, can't quite believe it (I joined SW on 19th June)

JugglingMummyof2 · 28/11/2017 18:04

Gosh Iheart. That is so amazing - well done for sticking with it. I love a great success story.

IheartCaptainHolt · 28/11/2017 18:42

Thank you! It's been hard d but worth it, really seeing and feeling the difference now
