Lose a stone for Christmas - 14lb in 14 weeks

FireflyGirl · 10/09/2017 19:56

I have struggled in the past to find the motivation to lose weight. I found it quite unexpectedly last November thanks to a 'lose a stone by Christmas' thread. However, I'm a slow loser and 8 weeks wasn't long enough for me to lose a stone. I managed it by the end of January, but then had a family bereavement and I've struggled to get back on track since. But I would really like to lose some more weight.

What helped me last year was the accountability of being on a thread. I controlled my calories using My Fitness Pal, but it was so helpful having other people to talk to who were having the same struggles.

So, if anyone would like to join me, I'd be grateful for some company. 14 pounds in 14 weeks takes us to 7 days before Christmas.

I weighed in this morning and I was 10 8.8. I will stick with a Sunday morning weigh-in as I take DS swimming so can use the scales there.

I plan to use MFP, cut out snacks and make good decisions on my meals to stay within my calorie allowance.

Morning all. Another 1lb off this week, it's slow progress but going in the right direction I guess! However have just had to cancel all my booked exercise classes til next week as have got labyrinthitis and can barely stand up, let alone do anything more energetic! Will try to do some gentle exercise at home and not eat junk to cheer myself up could murder a plate of chips 🤦‍♀️

Anyway am down to 13st1 so 5lb down so far. Good luck everyone and keep going!

Carriemac · 05/10/2017 11:46

12:13 this morning! Yay. Slow but steady

Please can anyone advise me about which fitness pal to buy? Which is easy to use and helps with motivation? 😀 thanks.

43percentburnt · 07/10/2017 17:44

Just download my fitness pal for free. It makes you more aware of how many calories you are eating and you can use the bar code scanner too.

Does anyone have any idea how many calories breastfeeding toddler twins will use? I feed them four times a day each 5 days a week. And 8/9 a day each on my 2 days off.

IheartCaptainHolt · 07/10/2017 20:43

I’m still here! Didn’t weigh in this week as I’ve been on holiday. I was sensible-ish but went for a run everyday and did my first park run this morning so hopefully I’ll have maintained when I weigh in on Tuesday.

Firefries · 07/10/2017 21:21

Well done everyone and wow Iheart that sounds very sensible and such good work while on holiday. I'm impressed!
Hey so it's an earlier weigh in for me I normally weigh in on weds but I have finally dropped some weight and wanted to record it. I've finally gone down today from 169 to 167.5 pounds! Very impressed here (I know it might change still). If it stays off I think its because I've gone back to 1200 cals per day even tho MFP wants me to have more - I just wasn't losing tho. I've also realized I cannot eat extra food/cals if I do my run/exercise which I was doing a little of. I just have to stick to my 1200.
I hope that helps someone elseif they get to my problem. I think I recognize how different we all are too. So I am hoping to keep losing now. Thanks for all the help and ideas.

TarquinGyrfalcon · 09/10/2017 18:34

Week 1 - 173 lbs
Week 2 - 170.6 lbs
Week 3 - 168.8 lbs
Week 4 - 168 lbs
Week 5 - 167.6lbs
Week 6 - 166.2 lb

0.2lb away from a half stone loss.
If I carry on with the same amount of weight loss I could technically lose another stone by Christmas which would be amazing.

I need to start walking more, although the darker evenings don't help.

I did have a small non-scale victory this morning - I put on my winter boots, last year I was having ti really tug the zip over my chunky calves, this morning i could just pull them up (I am assuming that last year I didn't stretch them to accommodate my chubbiness!)

Firefries · 09/10/2017 23:23

Tarquin please share what you are doing. That is an incredible loss so far and you are doing so well. I am in my early 40s and I am finding it so much harder to lose weight now, although I have yo-yo'd for half my life. Anyway please share what you are doing. Thanks.

HarrietBasset · 10/10/2017 10:59

Everyone is doing so well.
I'm hanging in there. I'm on week 4 of c25k and am actually sort of enjoying it.
I maintained again last week but shouldn't be surprised as I had a few slip ups.
I've lost 1lb this week so 8lbs total since starting.
Fire - I'm trying to drop my calories a bit too as 1500 isn't doing it for me sadly. I'm also trying to eat in a 8 hour window as an experiment!
I go on holiday abroad next week though. I'm taking my running gear but need to try not to undo all of my good work x

IheartCaptainHolt · 10/10/2017 13:00

Lost 1/2 lb this week which is good considering how much I ate on holiday!

Started park run this week too which has got a horrible hill in it so I practiced that again this morning too.

Sodaface · 10/10/2017 13:24

Weighed in this morning & 2lb down so that me at 12.1

I started back at the gym today & felt a little better for it. Last weeks conference was a nightmare, they didn’t even put in lunch for us so I was starving come 5 then ate big dinners & a few sweets.

Firefries · 10/10/2017 16:03

week 1: 167.9 lbs
Week 2: 169 lbs
Weeks 3: 169 lbs
Week 4 169 lbs
Week 5: 166.4 lbs!

Finally a drop in weight! I really hope this keeps going in the right direction for me.
I have just looked back over MFP and I realized I was 169 pounds and 167 back in April 2017, so I have been around this weight for some time. I did take a break between June-August but my weight stayed the same. Back in April I was doing 30 day shred and eating 1200 calories but after nearly three months I gave up because I didn't lose weight.
In August I began couch to 5k, and have gone between 1200, 1400 calories and an MFP suggested amount (which was somewhere between this) and now I'm back to 1200, but I'm not eating the extra cals added from exercising. So the moral of the story, it is taking some time.
Admittedly I never fully ate all the added exercise calories, I had a little extra, yes. For me it seems I am not to add any.
On reflection, i think it's taken me some time to cut back on my snacking too. Even if it was within my given calories. Now I try and stick to three meals a day only. I am exercising 3-4 times a week. I have just discovered Park Run (from here) so I am hoping to do this.
Finally, I hope this helps someone down the line. My change in weight and body size has been so slow. It was never this hard in my 30s. If anything if you are eating well and exercising I would suggest to just keep going. Don't give up. Measure yourself using tape, not just the scales. I think this would have helped me too.
Finally, I always read your weigh-ins, and I look forward to reading them and getting encouraged/inspired. It really helps. So thank you.

Christmastree43 · 11/10/2017 06:45

Wednesday weigh in...

Week 1 (start weight): 9:9
Week 2: 9:7.8
Week 3: 9:4
Week 4: 9:5.4

Not surprised but still disappointed Angry I normally have a very good Sunday- Tuesday but this Monday involved Bratwurst and a bottle of Riesling so wholly expected...

Was tempted to do a weigh in on Thursday this week but that would be cheating 😒 guess I am still just about on track for 1lb a week overall though

Good luck any other Wednesday weighers especially jugglingmummyof2 Smile

twobambinos · 11/10/2017 09:09

Well done on all the weight loss everyone. I fell off the wagon again but back on it now. Going to go for a long ish run later even though the weather is horrible and much more tempting to stay inside.
Still weighing in at 10st 5 from a start weight of 10st 8. Really need to cop on and push to see the 9 something on the scales again or I will be upset with myself at Christmas when im buying a new outfit.

JugglingMummyof2 · 11/10/2017 09:33

Hi there Cristmastree43 and everyone else - there must be something in the air this weeks as I have not had a good result either....
Start: 9st 11
Week 1: 9st 9.8
Week 2: 9st 8.4
Week 3: 9st 8
Week 4: 9st 8.2

Shall we try again tomorrow or is that cheating??

twobambinos · 11/10/2017 16:15

Juggling mummy lets try again tomorrow. Every day is a new day and we can do better.
I went for my run earlier feeling very virtuous today long may it last. I'll be eating out for two meals tomorrow so hopefully I can make OK ish choices.

twinkledag · 11/10/2017 16:30

Hi everyone, I am reading but not posting. I have some good days and some not-so-good days. I promise to post as soon as the scales move again – downwards not upwards!
I am 39 in a few months and I really feel that I have to be good every single day to lose weight consistently, it’s sooooooooooo boring!
Well done everyone who is doing well! And to the ones that aren’t, keep trying!

JugglingMummyof2 · 11/10/2017 17:22

Agreed twobambinos, christmastree43 and jugglingmummy are hoping for better tomorrow morning ( better get my trainers on ...)

HarrietBasset · 11/10/2017 18:25

I've just eaten a grab bag of revels....482 calories.....total self sabotage. Though calories for the day are 1430 including this so not hugely over. I dare say the scales will notice though Blush

Christmastree43 · 11/10/2017 18:53

Yes have had a pretty good day today calorie wise - porridge for breakfast, plain with one tsp sugar, office chocs for lunch (the shame😭😭 - but managed to tear myself away at 324 calories - thanks MFP) then chicken soup for tea, and I have managed to walk for two hours some how - 35 mins to work each way and then just walked 25mins each way to the post office depot 😂

So may have cheeky weigh in tomorrow, but will also pretend it didn’t happen if I don’t like the results Grin

Christmastree43 · 12/10/2017 06:03

Okay am happier with that although I do know it’s not fair to weigh in selectively on just the good days!!

Week 1 (start weight): 9:9
Week 2: 9:7.8
Week 3: 9:4
Week 4: 9:5.4
Week 4 + 1 day: 9:1.6

Now to maintain or lose from that for next week 🤞

JugglingMummyof2 · 12/10/2017 06:51

Good morning people. Revised figures....

Start: 9st 11
Week 1: 9st 9.8
Week 2: 9st 8.4
Week 3: 9st 8
Week 4: 9st 8.2
Week 4+1day: 9st 7.6

And the moral of the story, for me, is don't eat pasta for dinner on the night before a weigh in.
Great result Christmas - well done
I am really small (only 5ft 2) - how tall are you?

Christmastree43 · 12/10/2017 06:59

That is fab juggling well done and yes lessons learnt!!

I am also a shorty at 5’2 Grin
