Weight loss by being kind to ourselves? *title edited by MNHQ*

Holidays over. I have had my body weight in ice-creams, chips, pasties, burgers etc and though we walked about 5-10 miles most days, I'm heaviest ever.

I know I am useless at diets - they make me dizzy and weak and grumpy.

Does anyone fancy trying to lose weight with a shift of mindset? Doing loads of treat-like things that aren't food based. Eating really healthy foods we also happen to love, Being nice to ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally and socially etc. Taking exercise because it's good self care etc?

If anyone wants to try this, join in here for chat.

Today I walked back from shops with (superfit and skinny) DS1. 3 miles. This afternoon, I'm going for a walk with DS2. Going to have some salad for lunch now because I like salad, not because it's rabbit food.

Anyone else?

Milli excellent checklist! I shall be doing a good portion of it I think!

Uplifting songs on YouTube, good question! I like shiny happy people by REM (have done since I was a toddler apparently!) and reel big fish's version of take me on. Very happy bouncy make you want to dance type feel to it!

Haven't started off great today, just shared a little individual cheesecake thing with ds. Shall count that as breakfast as I'm not really hungry. was bloody lovely though

Allice · 31/08/2017 09:39

Can I join too?
I'm sick to death of diets, I have a real feast or famine mentality, I'm really trying to get over it and eat nice healthy food.

I'm back at work on Monday and intend to do 10,000 steps a day, I'm in a school office but walk to work and back, I want to go for a walk early in the morning 3 times a week too, I used to run but every time I try it triggers an old injury do walking will have to do.

I'm about 5.5 and was 14.3 yesterday (am in a hotel today though so Saturday maybe not great!)

Ledkr · 31/08/2017 10:01

This is such a good idea!
I have been doing a dance class "because I like it" and I'm really sticking to it twice a week.
I'd love to be slimmer because I feel better and I want to be healthy for my children.
My plan is to get more sleep/sex by going to bed earlier and not sitting watching tv whilst snacking.

Masonbee · 31/08/2017 11:04

Great list Milli!
I have a bullet journal so I'll be using that for my lists of healthy stuff.
I'm a nail biter too so manicure supplies might motivate me to improve another bad habit...

Good luck all Smile

Keep trying to post and losing messages. Apologies in advance if they all turn up at once!
Allice I too am a recovering runner. I reckon though if I work on my fitness I can maintain better technique and get back to it one day. Will be trying to get up early too, at least for half the week.
Walking for fitness doesn't seem quite as socially acceptable around here as running. We are quite rural so people keep stopping to ( kindly) offer me a lift. They just shrug and look bemused when I point at my Fitbit 😁.
Am having a week Fitbit free- would ruin my tan and didn't want to be twitching if the steps weren't happening- and am still feeling the urge to go for a cliff walk in the morning. Cos I enjoy it!

applejack18 · 31/08/2017 16:57

Excellent list OP - thanks for the momentum.
I'm v happy to be part of a group.
I feel like I've had the elusive mental "click" (fingers crossed)

LiveLifeWithPassion · 31/08/2017 20:54

I like this approach!
Millie fab list. I think I'll do most of that.
I've recently bought a lovely notebook to help me sort my life out and I've just joined a book club so I've got a book to read.
I've got some things on this weekend and have come down with a cold so I'll be starting on Monday.

millifiori · 31/08/2017 21:06

Welcome Live iBuilt Keira Ledkr and Allice (hoped I've not missed anyone. If I have, sorry and welcome to you too! )

Well I've managed zero exercise today because I've been at work all day and was sorting out family matters for aging DPs this evening. But that usually makes me hit the sugar, and I've managed to stay on healthy food today:
stirfry chicken breast, veg with rice for dinner,
wholemeal toast with poached egg and beans for lunch,
yoghurt and fruit for breakfast with a sprinking of nut muesli,
fruit and three ryvita for snacks.

That's quite a lot of food, but none of it impulse binge food. Going to have a long bubble bath to destress after dealing with my dad! Grin

Billy I watched that video - great song.

I went to Pilates and walked 18,000 steps today - it was my first Pilates session with this instructor and when I thanked her she gave me a hug! This is infectious!

Thisisatemporaryname101 · 31/08/2017 22:59

Hello can I join. I'm also 5ft 1 so another shorty! Currently ten stone. I really really need to change my mindset. I crave sugar. Get so excited about my sweet treat thinking it will make me happy then afterwards feel guilty and sick.

Time4adrink · 31/08/2017 23:00

I'm still on holiday but really want to join you all. 5 ft 9 and around 14 st Blush - shocker I know ...

WishingCarrot · 31/08/2017 23:03

temporaryname sugar is my downfall too :-(

BillywigSting · 31/08/2017 23:12

Millie glad you liked it!

Today has been something of a write off unfortunately I think.

Shared a little pot of cheesecake with ds for breakfast, then a mini roll, lunch out so chicken and bacon wrap (reasonably healthy I think), coffee and cake (cake number 3!!!). Dinner was a courgette spinach and chicken omelette with a bit of salad on the side so not too bad.

Three helpings of cake though. Good grief.

Oh well, tomorrow is a new day and I went out a bought a lovely but enormous water bottle with the aim of drinking at least one of them a day.

Must remember, no cakes or biscuits or sweet things tomorrow. None of the ones I had today were even that especially nice.

That's so true. Half he time, the tastiest food is actually the healthiest. On holiday we guzzled ice creams and pancakes and pasties, but the food that really stays in my mind as being delicious was a kale salad. And I didn't feel hungry for hours after it.

Yesterday I had breakfast granola blueberries Greek yoghurt
Prawn jacket potato with salad
Sausage mash and beans
Also had a donut and sticky toffee pudding Blush

ibuiltahomeforyou · 01/09/2017 09:53

For breakfast I had a lovely kind of fool with layered yoghurt and berries with ground almonds on top. Going to get out into the sunshine again today ❤️

Gymntonic · 01/09/2017 10:02

Starting the day with a skyr yoghurt thing and fruit. Hot day forecast here but had a lovely walk first thing. Spending some time planning food for the day so I can choose tasty meals I want to eat.

So much easier when not at work!
How's everyone else doing?

Bnanda · 01/09/2017 10:08

Hallo all, would you mind me asking roughly how far you need to walk for 10000 steps?

Gymntonic · 01/09/2017 10:24

Hi Bnanda. My Fitbit tells me it's about 7.5 km for 10,000. About ten minutes per 1,000 steps at my briskish pace

deary · 01/09/2017 10:31

Count me in too!
I'm not dieting, I have been doing (and not doing) slimming world for 10 years and I'm 4 stone heavier!
I'm going to be careful with portion sizes- especially carbs. Question every time I want to eat something, do I need this or do I want to be slimmer.
I'm going to exercise more for my mental health.
I'm going to get my nose pierced, wear whatever I want and stop apologising for being fat. I'm going to start being me!
Next summer, I will be 4 stone lighter!

Cagliostro · 01/09/2017 10:33

Can I join you please? Situation a bit different in that I'm 30 weeks with DC3. But had been managing a little weight loss before conceiving and have been making a lot of better choices day by day so haven't piled the weight on this time. Still got a very sweet tooth (now that the nausea phase is over - I could barely eat then) but enjoying better food.

However I found out my blood sugar is slightly raised - not enough for a gestational diabetes diagnosis but I'll have to do finger prick tests etc. And suddenly I'm struggling! I hate this mindset of mine, it's so childlike - as soon as they are telling me I can't have something it's all I'm craving!

I really need some friendly support to stay positive and on track. Thanks

Bnanda · 01/09/2017 10:41

Thank you gym and tonic!

FreeButtonBee · 01/09/2017 11:32

I am in.

I am at my heaviest non-pregnant weight ever. There are a few reasons but none of them very good. I have started to cycle to work most of the time - this is slightly stymied by life getting in the way occasionally but I am trying. I am trying not to deprive myself but eat good food and limit the crap. And for me, I need to weight every day. I know it's not for everyone but I do find it keeps me on track. Also trying to limit the booze. I should do low carb as that really works for me but I just can't face full on bootcamp at the moment so I am going to try to limit but not ban carbs and team them with lots of veg.

FreeButtonBee · 01/09/2017 11:33

Oh and I am 11 5 at 5ft3. I was almost a stone lighter this time last year Shock
