Weight loss by being kind to ourselves? *title edited by MNHQ*

Holidays over. I have had my body weight in ice-creams, chips, pasties, burgers etc and though we walked about 5-10 miles most days, I'm heaviest ever.

I know I am useless at diets - they make me dizzy and weak and grumpy.

Does anyone fancy trying to lose weight with a shift of mindset? Doing loads of treat-like things that aren't food based. Eating really healthy foods we also happen to love, Being nice to ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally and socially etc. Taking exercise because it's good self care etc?

If anyone wants to try this, join in here for chat.

Today I walked back from shops with (superfit and skinny) DS1. 3 miles. This afternoon, I'm going for a walk with DS2. Going to have some salad for lunch now because I like salad, not because it's rabbit food.

Anyone else?

I'm glad you're enjoying it steala. I'm benefiting from the mirror exercises too. I'm starting to see myself - but kindly not just critically. I've been doing these for a while but haphazardly.
I'm also benefiting from being on a scale break. Only weighing once a month. Surprised at how hard thus is. But pleased that over time it seems to be making non scale success a bigger thing.I can tell in my clothes I'm looking better. And they fit better

Looks like this thread has died which is a shame cos I loved it and found it really positive. I'm weighing tomorrow and excited/nervous about it. I've found it extraordinarily difficult to not weigh myself more often but think that's an argument for not weighing. I think I need to learn to give weightloss time. I keep seeing ads for alvera on buses with huge amounts lost in short periods of time and have to be very deliberate about that not being my plan. Anyway I hope dome of you will make a return

I'm still in! It finally clicked for me last week and I lost 4 pounds.

I was walking through an autumnal park this mirnnng, thinking of this thread. Exercise has rarely felt so good.

lasttimeround · 01/11/2017 11:58

I'm glad you're still here steala. This approach is doing me a lot of good. I weighed in 2.2 kgs lower than a month ago. That's extremely good going.
In terms of treats I've splashed out on some products by the ordinary and because they actually work I find I'm supermotivated with skincare now. It feels like a treat 2x a day as I use the serums and I'm delighted to see visible improvements some mornings.
Im also getting more varied in my food shopping. I'm low carbing but exploring within that far more than I did before. Rethinking food treats as lovely dinner choices rather than chocolate.

I have fallen off the wagon the last couple of weeks. Will get on it again

Justanothernap · 03/11/2017 19:02

Hello, I liked lurking on this thread! Posting in hopes you all come back :)

Steala · 03/11/2017 22:42

Anyone want to try to come up with challenges/treats? I'll have a go if no one else keen.

lasttimeround · 04/11/2017 09:35

Please go ahead steala. I'd like some new ones

Steala · 04/11/2017 14:11

OK:
Challenges for this week:
Make a list of all the things you will be able to do when you are a healthy/desired weight. I want to have more energy and be lighter on my feet (I watch Strictly and think how good it must feel to be able to move like that, rather than the creaky waddle I manage) and I'd like to shop for something that flatters rather than disguises. What things are standing in your way?

Keep a craving diary. What were you doing? What did you crave? How did you feel if you gave in? How did you feel if you resisted? How did you feel an hour later (whether you resisted or not)?

Treats:
Make a list of all the things you love about winter. Try to plan as many non-food related ones as you can.

Take an enjoyment inventory. Every time you feel happy or content, note what you are doing - walking, listening to your child's excited story, watching the leaves blow in the wind etc. As you drift off to sleep, try to recall some of these tiny moments that pass us by all too easily.

If anyone is out there, please join us! We're getting healthier, happier and slimmer - what's not to like!

Justanothernap · 05/11/2017 12:40

Ok. I'm in. Thanks for the challenges :-)

Going to do my nails instead of eating left over Halloween sweets. One will make me feel headachey and not like getting dressed today. So I'm opting out of that..

( Disclaimer: I have already eaten a full English & a ginger bread man - but I suppose the whole point of this thread is not to give into bad habits & use that as an excuse to treat my body like crap because it feels good in the short time but shit in the long term)

ciele · 07/11/2017 00:19

I’ve only just found you and have been thinking self care is a great way to think. Pls keep going!

Steala · 08/11/2017 09:05

Welcome to the new joiners!

I a man feeling better. I am wearing nice clothes and earrings for the first time in months - because I finally feel I am worth the effort. When I feel like rubbish and treat myself like rubbish, it's really no wonder I eat rubbish. Appreciating myself and feeling happier about the every day moments in my life seems to be working.

How is everyone else? Please post!

Steala · 08/11/2017 09:07

Argh I never learn to preview. I am feeling better (I am not a man).

lasttimeround · 08/11/2017 11:42

I love the enjoyment inventory idea. Nice one. I'm trying to get back into my nice zone of being sensible eating well and not dieting punitively. While not pigging out either. I've had a free stresses znd upsets - emotional eater - but I'm practicing cutting binges shorter.
Its turned v cold here - aldo a struggle I'm just not made for cold. My hair hates it. My skin hates it. My bones protest. I need to find ways to make winter better ghsf don't involve chocolate!

lasttimeround · 11/11/2017 11:54

Horrid week. I've got some trouble with my stomach. Stress and coffee means my sensitive stomach had enough. Various meds. Feeling a bit shit. Off my low carb diet. Eating v little but also in bed nauseous a lot. Hope others managing better

Steala · 11/11/2017 18:59

Oh no. Hope you feel better. Be keen no to yourself. Read something you've always meant to or watch a fave film. Plan what you want to do/eat when you're up and running again.
