Is anyone else doing Paul McKenna's Weight Loss System?

I've been doing it for 4 weeks. First two weeks were easy and lost 8lbs, but I keep lapsing. Would like to copmpare notes with anyone else doing it...

I don't do it but saw this on Amazon so it may help you (there are 183 reviews, mostly positive!).

LilRedWG · 19/03/2007 15:44

How does it work DandAs?

tortoise · 19/03/2007 15:53

That book and cd looks very interesting. Im going to order it when i have some money!

dandasmummy · 19/03/2007 20:16

speedymama - Thanks for the post. Those positive reviews were just what I needed.
Haven't got through all 183 yet.

LilRedWG - Programme consists of 4 simple steps to change the way you think about food, and alter your eating patterns... 1. Eat when you are hungry.

  1. Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful. 3. Eat what you want, not what you think you should.
  2. Stop when you are full.
The book goes into more detail about this, and includes a mind-programming cd to listen to. It makes perfect sense, and like I said, the first couple of weeks were a doddle. I don't know why I've lapsed a few times this week. I'll weigh myself tomorrow and see what the scales tell me, although I'm rather apprehensive... I bought and opened a bag of mini eggs, and didn't stop eating them when I was full. I did enjoy every mouthful, but didn't eat them consciously...just wolfed them down guiltily! I can see where I've gone wrong. Am determined to stick to it this coming week because it obviously works if you do.

Hi dandasmummy, have just bought the latest book and cds from Amazon and waiting for them to be delivered (hopefully tomorrow!). Had been meaning to get it for ages as I'm really hoping it'll help. My sister keeps raving about his TV prog, but my DP hates watching it, so that hasn't really worked! I'm really struggling to find any kind of willpower these days so hope the CDs will really help. As soon as I get stressed I start eating (pref choc ).

Happy to compare notes once I get started

Prettyfull · 20/03/2007 20:29

Iv heard about this, id love to try it. What does the diet actually involve?? Also how much does it cost for these books and cd's??

Sounds good

dandasmummy · 20/03/2007 20:31

Hi Paquette. Weighed myself this morning. Have lost another 2lbs, miraculously, considering what I've eaten over the past 2 weeks! So it obviously works. That's 10lbs in 4 weeks, but still a long way to go!...

Caligula · 20/03/2007 21:03

Hi dandasmummy I'm doing this, I didn't realise it was a programme.

I picked up the book and CD a couple of weeks ago in a charity shop and was quite sceptical. Then read it and it made such good sense that I decided to do what he said. After a couple of days I realised that this is how I used to eat when I was slim - slowly, consciously and with enjoyment, with no thought of calories, carb/ protein ratio etc. It's just like returning to normality again for me.

I can't imagine losing much weight on it though tbh, haven't weighed myself anyway so I don't know (DD removed the feet from the scales so now they are very unstable and wobbly and give wrong measurements). But I'll know by my clothes. I've only been eating this way for a week. Have had tons of lemon drizzle cake (but much smaller portions than I would normally have had).

Are you also doing exercise?

dandasmummy · 20/03/2007 21:04

Hi Prettyfull. Just saw your post. It's not really a diet as such, in that you eat what you want, but only eat if you're hungry, and stop when you're full. You just really follow his 4 rules (I wrote them in an earlier post) There's a book called 'I Can Make You Thin' which has one cd with it (Amazon £5.49). That was the first weight loss one I think. But then he brought out another one, like a diary, called '90 Day Success Journal' (Amazon £6.59) That's the one I'm using at the moment, although I bought that one from his website and it came with 5 cds. It cost about £45 altogether. I reckon you only really need both books (and the free cd you get with the first book) which would set you back £12, but I've saved more than that through eating less! Hope that makes sense?

dandasmummy · 20/03/2007 21:12

Caligula, I think it's just called a programme 'cause it's not exactly a diet. It is really just how to eat like a normal person isn't it? I've got the book you've got, but also the diary, which says weigh yourself every 15 days if you want to. To be honest I sort of wish I hadn't. I think you're better just to go on how you feel, but I couldn't resist it! I'm walking a lot more than I was, an hour or so a day, but I'm keen to start running again. I used to run often, but it's hard finding time. I need to make time, really. How about you?

OP posts:
Caligula · 20/03/2007 21:27

I'd already started running again when I read his book, not very much and not very often, but enough for it to be regular(ish) exercise.

Am impressed that you've lost 10lbs in 2 weeks, I can't imagine it.

Am sitting here vaguely hungry and wondering if i should eat or just go to bed...

dandasmummy · 20/03/2007 21:40

I lost 8lbs in 2 weeks, and then another 2lbs the following 2 weeks. So 10lbs in 4 weeks.
Are you actually hungry? If not, go to bed!

OP posts:
Caligula · 20/03/2007 21:42

No I'm not really. Have just had some water and realised it was thirst.

paquette · 21/03/2007 16:13

Hi dandasmummy, 10lb in 4 weeks sounds good to me! The book and CD came today - hurrah! So I'm going to start having a listen tonight. I bought the 90 day success journal with the 4 CDs (but got them cheaper on the Amazon marketplace) because I really wanted the emotional eating CD. Unfortunately as soon as I get stressed I reach for the choc or whatever else comes to hand - not good!

speedymama · 21/03/2007 16:29

dandsamummy, could you try running first thing in the morning before everybody gets up. That's what I do. I plan to go for a 2 mile run on Friday morning at 6.30am before DH goes to work.

dandasmummy · 21/03/2007 20:48

Hi paquette - I've listened to the main cd and more recently, the emotional eating cd the most, although I keep falling asleep while I'm listeneng to it. I'm like you with chocolate (or anything else) if I'm stressed, lonely , bored, unhappy... He makes a whole lot of sense!
Good luck! I'll be thinking of you!

speedymama - A morning run's not really possible as my DP works nights, so is in bed (dead to the world) in the morning when I get up. I'm going to try to go at 8pm when Ive put the girls to bed, before he goes out to work. I know I'll feel better when I get back into it.

gingernutlover · 01/04/2007 20:33

hi

I have been doing this since january and have never heard the end of the CD cos it makes me sleepy

but doesnt seem to matter cos

I have lost 21lbs! yay yay yay

this is the most weight I have ever lost on a diet and it is staying off - okay only for 3 months but actually thats longer than I have ever lasted on a diet before. It just makes so much sense and I do find it hard to keep on eating when I am full - just dont really enjoy it.

Of course I have lapses like time of the month munchies but as time goes on even that is getting better. And I have lost wieght and it is still gone, 3 months later.

I was 15,3 at xmas, now 13,10 ish. And I still feel positve.

dandasmummy · 04/04/2007 20:25

gingernutlover - that's a great loss so far! You've inspired me. After my initial loss, I fell off the wagon, so to speak, and although I haven't put any on, I haven't lost any more either. Went back to my old, wicked ways. But it's not long now 'til Summer, and I really want to feel better about myself by then. I can't understand why I've slipped back into bad habits... I know everything he says makes perfect sense, I feel so much better when I stick to the programme. I think maybe it's going to take a bit of time to shake off my bad habits...

OP posts:
Tillyboo · 05/04/2007 21:52

I've been doing the Neris and India Idiot Proof Diet and although I've lost 8lb I've stuck at the same weight for 4 weeks now and I'm fed up.
It too makes sense as a way of eating i.e. low carb/ high protein but in reality I've found it quite hard to follow, especially breakfast and lunchtime. I miss fruit too much.

I lose willpower so maybe Mr McKenna might be able to help me?

I'm OK in general apart from my jelly belly, it gets so bloated too. I don't think I eat excessively, in fact I know I don't but I'm 43 and so losing weight does get harder.

I'm sure tho that if I lost some of/ toned up my jelly belly (lets be realistic, after children your figure and shape are never the same again) I'd be able to maintain it.

dinny · 09/04/2007 20:36

remind me of the PM method, pls...

speedymama · 10/04/2007 09:32

PM uses mind reprogramming techniques that are commonly used by atheletes and business people to improve performance.

Consequently, I decided to buy his "I can make you thin" book and after reading it (it took me less than 2 hours to finish it), I was hooked. I am following the WW points system on my own but I actually think that this is going to be more effective. In fact, I suspect it is similar to the WW core programme but I like the way that he has encapsulated everything within his 4 golden rules

  1. When you are hungry, eat
  2. Eat what you want, not what you think you should
  3. Eat conciously and enjoy every mouthful
  4. When you think you are full, stop.

I also like his crave busting technique. You feel silly doing it at first but it does work. I also found his hunger scale a revelation because you realise that most people eat when they are not actually hungry. He also has a chapter on emotional eating.

It is easy to mock PM but I actually like his mind reprogramming technique and if it helps a few people to alter bad habits, ditch negative attitudes and embrace a healthier lifestyle, then that has to be a good thing.

I am also using the technique to help improve my performance at running and working out in the gym. If it is good enough
for the top atheletes, then I will definitely benefit from it.

speedymama · 10/04/2007 09:34

that should be eat consciously

kslatts · 10/04/2007 09:45

I started this in January and it did work for a few weeks, but like dandasmummy I lapsed and I'm not really sure why. Now reading this thread I'm going to start again today, I've just been away for the weekend and as a result have put on 2lbs in the past week.

dandasmummy · 12/04/2007 20:07

kslatts - I'm away at the moment. Have gone completely off the rails. Will start properly on Monday. Let me know how you get on..

OP posts:
Tillyboo · 18/04/2007 20:46

Hi, I started this programme on Monday and have listened to the CD at least once a day. I too fall asleep half way through, it's wierd.
There's a point in the CD where you can hear two voices, as if each voice is coming out of each speaker. It makes my head feel really strange and I think it's at this point I zonk out !

I definitely don't 'pick' as much as I have been but need to start the exercising too.
I need to finish reading the book and start the journal.
How is everyone else doing on this ? It'd be good to compare notes and keep each other motivated
