Hi Tillyboo, I also started this on Monday. It's going really well for me so far. It makes a whole lot of sense. I'm filling in the Journal too. I think it'll help to keep me focused. I've been discussing it a bit on another thread with some other people who are trying to lose weight, although most seem to be doing a detox juice diet.
How are you finding it?

Tillyboo · 21/04/2007 00:06

Hi Saggers, I've found it OK actually and trying really hard not to get the scales out for 2 weeks.
We went out for a meal tonight and I was very conscious of the rules. I feel comfortably full but not bloated - so I don't feel I've broken the rules as such.
I don't know how it works but it seems to !
Good luck too, keep me posted how you are doing.
Lets get in touch in two weeks after the first weigh in. I want to lose 10lbs in total

suzi2 · 27/04/2007 23:05

I started this today and have been pretty amazed that I have gone from food obsessed and binging to forgetting all about food! I haven't had a chance to do the CD - doubt I will as DD is always sleeping on my knee or feeding at the moment. I'll let you all know how I get on in a few weeks.

Oh, and my shortbread addiction (pg craving that never left me... a packet every 2 days being eaten!) has gone overnight I think. I did the association thing with fish and now the thought of eating it turns my stomach a bit!

saggers · 30/04/2007 21:22

Tillyboo - weighed myself today, and have lost 6lbs. Although at first I was a bit disappointed (I was sort of hoping for more, as I have followed the rules, and have been running and doing yoga.) the more I think about it, it's really quite a good loss. How about you?
suzi2 - how're you finding it?

suzi2 · 30/04/2007 21:46

Finding it no bother at all. I'm eating VERY little by my usual standards. Though probably fairly normally by most peoples lol. I'm not sure how much weight will go (I'd be very happy with 6lbs in 2 wks) as I'm breastfeeding and sort of stuck post baby weight wise. HOwever, I'm actually quite happy that I'm jsut more in control of things. I've found that I'm not stressing about food the same. I sometimes used to hit a "I want chocolate and it's bad" sort of feeling now and then and kind of panic. But since doing this book, I haven't had that. I know that if I want it I can have it. I just have to wait until I'm hungry.

I'm finding it a bit difficult to work out when I'm hungry and when I'm full though. I'm often hungry but it's not hunger, it's emotional. So once I recognise the emotion it vanishes. I'm erring on the side of caution and eating less when i think I'm full, knowing that I can have something in 10 mins if necessary.

On the whole I'm finding it fine. I just feel like I'm eating like a normal person, not a glutonous lunatic!

Tillyboo · 30/04/2007 21:48

Hi Saggers,I've listened to the CD everyday and have been following the rules, altho I have had a little bit of Green & Blacks Dark choc every now and again.
However, I had my first weigh in today and I haven't even lost a pound. Is this normal in the early stages d'you think ?

I do feel that my jelly belly has gone down a little and I feel it in some of my other clothes so how come the scales say the same as when I started.
I have been walking for about 30-40 minutes every other day (sometimes every day) and doing lots of gardening too.
I'm quite disappointed and at this point in time I'm wondering whether I'm one of the 30% that the system doesn't work for
I know it's only been 2 weeks but I thought I would have lost at least a pound.
I am going to do my measurements in the morning to see if any change there.
I'll keep you posted ....

tortoise · 30/04/2007 21:50

I have just got the book and cd. Have started reading it. May have a chance to listen to the cd in bed tonight.
I think its going to be hard for me at first.

suzi2 · 30/04/2007 21:52

Meant to say that I haven't had a moment to do the CD yet. I just read the book once and flick through dong some of the techniques when DD is feeding during the night. I'm desperate to find time for the CD but can't... I doubt I'd relax with DD lying across my knee like she is at the moment!

suzi2 · 30/04/2007 21:55

saggers - you're allowed the green & blacks... so long as you're hungry Perhaps it's just going to take a few weeks to get going for you? How much do you have to lose?

tortoise, I swear it's easy. I have to make conscious decisions to do things like eat slowly and not just grab food because it's there (like DSs left overs!) but other than that I just follow the rules. Because you can eat what you want, I never feel I'm missing out. If I have a craving I simply say to myself "have to wait until I'm hungry" and that seems to work. And when I'm hungry I'm wanting something proper and not chocolate IYSWIM.

suzi2 · 30/04/2007 21:56

sorry - tillyboo not saggers

tortoise · 30/04/2007 21:59

I think my problem is recognising its hunger. I have been much better due to being told i have gall stones so not eating as much as i was. but i have alwys been a fast eater and cleared my plate! I am going to try hard though.

suzi2 · 30/04/2007 22:20

A girl on my AN club on another site recommended the book to me - I had seen it on Sky but hadn't really paid much attention. Anyway, for inspiration for us all... she's lost almost 4 stone in 4 months. All of it was post babies weight.

Caligula · 30/04/2007 22:28

I am but haven't lost anything

This could be because I've been having lots of social occasions recently though

Social life = bad.

suzi2 · 30/04/2007 22:33

I have to say I found it harder when at MILs fr tea yesterday. She's a serial dieter so understood when I didn't finish my meal, but I still ate more than I needed to so as not to be rude. It must be tricky if you're out a lot Caligula.

Tillyboo · 01/05/2007 10:14

Haven't lost any weight but I have lost several cm's all over which is encouraging.
I was feeling very disappointed with the non weight loss but maybe because I've been exercising my muscle density has improved ?
Anyway, I'm going to keep going and feel inspired but the successes of others that have tried the system

saggers · 01/05/2007 10:44

TillyBoo. I don't know why you haven't lost anything yet, although maybe it's to do with your monthly cycle, Is it around the time of your period? Or maybe, if you're walking and gardening more, it's because you're building muscle. Or perhaps it's just taking a while to get into it? A friend of mine did this a couple of years ago. She lost about 4 stone, and has kept it off. She said it came off slowly and took about a month before she noticed anything. I'd go on what your clothes feel like. How were your measurements this morning? Have you got much to lose? I think the reason I lost 6lbs is because I've got a lot more to lose!
suzi2. It sounds as if you're doing really well! You sound really positive about it. It just makes perfect sense though, doesn't it? I'm like you in that I'm finding my hunger is often just emotional, and when I'm really hungry, I don't actually want junk! It's such a relief.
Tortoise - I think recognising real hunger comes with practice(And knowing when you're full). I found it impossible to leave anything on my plate at first, but the last couple of days have done it without trying. Unheard of for me!! Just think positive. It's a lot easier to do this system than you'd think.
Caligula - If you've had a busy social life recently, then it's good that you haven't put anything on!
I listen to the cd every night when I go to bed. Although I think I've only heard the end once or twice - I'm usually asleep within minutes! He says that doesn't matter, as long as your subconscious can hear it, but I don't even know if my earplugs stay in once I'm asleep!
Keep up the good work everyone x

hippipotami · 01/05/2007 10:59

I started this system (well, listening to the cd) two weeks ago.

So sorry Tilly, I was supposed to email you, but we have been having computer problems. Am currently MNing on the old laptop, but no email set up on here...

I am terrified to weigh myself in case I have not lost any weight.
I want to lose around 4st, but appreciate it is going to take time.

I have been doing this now for nearly 3 weeks, and I try to walk for 30 minutes every day (except at weekends) and have not weighed myself yet. My clothes don't feel any looser however, so am sure nothing has shifted yet

Tillyboo · 01/05/2007 22:35

Hippipotimi - Don't worry about not emailing but glad you are back on this thread. Go on, be brave and weigh yourself, you just might get a lovely surprise.
I was so disappointed at not losing any lb's but I have lost cm's all over. The fact that you have been walking probably means you have lost some cm's. It's a good idea to keep a little spreadsheet of your measurements as this sometimes gives you a more accurate reading because weight can fluctuate so month during the month - even day to day.
I measure :

  • Neck
  • Upper Arms
  • Bust (under)
  • bust (over)
  • Waist
  • Tummy
  • Hips
  • Thighs

Let me know how you get on.

To all those who have had success so far - Well Done you !
To all those thinking of trying this system - Go For It !

It beats any diet !

hippipotami · 02/05/2007 13:55

Hi Tilly, good idea about the spreadsheet. Weight loss as a science experiment, presented in Excel - I like it!!

No seriously, I will get weighing and measuring. Have just come back from another walk with the dog, am shattered...

Need to go and buy a tape measure now...

Tillyboo · 02/05/2007 16:58

Hi, I have been gardening all afternoon and I too am pooped ! Been digging 'oles, moving plants, carrying bags of compost and potting.
Big gardens are lovely but they are hard work - but worth it. Hopefully I have burnt loads of calories today. Going out for a walk with a friend tonight and she walks about 100 mph - HELP ! .
Let me know how the measurements go.

mrsmalumbas · 02/05/2007 17:13

Hi ladies I'm encouraged by your comments, I want to lose weight but not via a diet as such as I find that I always revert to old habits this sounds like a good way to tackle emotional type eating. I have been looking on e-bay but don't have a lot of money - not sure what I actually need - do I need "I can make you thin" or do I need "easy weight loss system"? Not sure I can afford the complete version with the journal etc, just looking for the basic version I guess. Thanks!

Tillyboo · 02/05/2007 17:25

Hi, have a look at Amazon

Not too pricey. You def need the CD but personally I don't feel the 90 day journal is essential, just a useful tool.
Come and join us, the more the merrier.
Good luck !

hippipotami · 02/05/2007 17:35

Right, have just weighed myself before hopping in the shower.
Today is day 21 of me doing the Paul McKenna system, this is the first time I have weighed myself since starting.
I am delighted to report a 6lbs weightloss.

Yippee!!!

Am hungry, and exhaused from all the dog walking I have been doing over the past 3 weeks (dog is tired too ) but very happy with my loss.

Keep going everyone, if I can do it, so can you!!

suzi2 · 02/05/2007 19:03

It's only £5.50 in ASDA, not sure about Tesco. I have "I can make you thin", haven't used the cd yet.

I'm almost a week in and now feeling a bit odd. I feel like I'm eating too much to lose weight and that I need to be miserable and starving to lose weight! Although I'm following all the rules, eating A LOT less than before, never hungry, don't feel that I'm missing out at all. But it feels weird to not feel like I'm on a diet IYSWIM? I said to DH last night that if I haven't lost anything I won't be downhearted as I'm so much more in control of my feelings around food. I don't go the whole day worrying about what I will and won't eat. As long as I haven't gained lol.

VERY tempted to jump on the scales tomorrow but I'm going to try and give it the minimum 2 wks.

Tillyboo · 02/05/2007 22:32

Hippipotimi - Well Done ! That's great. Has the dog lost weight too ?

After my gardening exploits today, I went on an hour walk this evening too. I'm knackered now, legs aching etc. but feel I've achieved something (must put that down in the 90 day diary)

Suzi2 - Don't be tempted to jump on the scales too early. I weighed myself after 2 weeks and hadn't lost anything so I was very disappointed. I secumbed today and jumped on and was horrified to see that I was 1 lb more than when I started. But I have to tell myself it's probably because I'm building muscle.
My tummy is definitely going down and my body measurements have reduced too.

I'm looking forward to my next weigh in with intrepidation and intrigue. Surely I will be lighter ???

It's very strange because I look at food now and think 'I don't really want that'. And tonight my dh cooked me two lovely fresh beefburgers but I only wanted to eat one as I was full up.

I have found it difficult recognising when I'm full but it's getting easier.

Keep going everyone, it's great to have some 'Paul' Buddies
