Hello Dr and welcome. Sounds like you've got a good plan there

Kaytee ⚘That is so nasty.

I did spin today and some toning stretching on the gym floor. Have a full week at the gym planned.

I have really got it bad for hot PT. Ive gotta have him 😍

WalkersNotLays · 05/06/2017 20:22

Oohh my Fitbit strap broke, so waiting impatiently for a new one. Really hope it's here in time for the new challenge

Treysanatomy · 05/06/2017 20:49

Starting weight for me is 11st2.

Off to a good start today, protein shake for lunch and pita bread with hummous for dinner. Haven't had much of an appetite today so making the most of it as I'm sure it'll be back with a vengeance tomorrow Grin

First challenge tomorrow - out for lunch with my new colleagues. I really struggle making sensible choices when eating out, then as soon as I've ordered 'something and chips' the whole week day becomes a write off.

12,000 steps today! Does anyone know if there is a formula to work out weight loss per extra 1000 steps per day? Do I need to be doing 20,000 to achieve any form of weight loss?

Squiffy01 · 05/06/2017 21:14

Thanks all. I hope it will come off quickly. But it won't the way I'm going - have been picking all day Blush I have got to get my Jess back in it I can't ruin it!
Loving the Fitbit challenge! Only just made my step goal today Monday is always slow cause I'm stuck in the house and looks like I will be for the rest of the week with this rain well not stuck in but buses instead of walking.

Softpebbles · 05/06/2017 21:15

Ha ha I certainly do need a big pot of humour! However my hummous was great. I was bored of salad!

Welcome to our new slenderistas. Good look losing the Linda's. x

readyforsunshine · 05/06/2017 21:25

Welcome newbies.
Bad day food wise for me today. I was ill in the night then starving today. White toast, scrambled egg wrap, veg soup, sausage pasta.
Tomorrow's another day!
Shakespear, not sure there's a formula as such in fact the calories burnt shown are depressingly low. However, it should fire up your metabolism & tone you up so well worth getting in as much as you can.

QuimReaper · 05/06/2017 21:27

Welcome Maxwell, sounds like you're going to do great! I reckon with a really stonking starting effort you can catapult yourself close to the 12s quite quickly. What's your calorie intake going to be?

Shakespeare no idea but I do hope not, I've only ever gone near 20K a handful of times! I think the loss p/steps would depend very much on your vital stats - weight, height, current activity levels, etc. You can burn loads of calories by walking but I find it's impressive step count + minimal food that is the answer, somehow the one without the other is no good.

QuimReaper · 05/06/2017 21:29

sunshine if you're ill you should definitely eat, you'll never recover otherwise! Feeling any better now? Flowers

Man, this weather is such a downer. It's so depressing.

RenaissanceBunny · 05/06/2017 21:33

Can I join in too? I have a lot of weight to lose - currently 21st 5 1/2 (oh it is soo good to be honest about it) I am tall 6ft but obviously far too heavy. I put on weight in my teens (bullying + greediness) and haven't ever really managed to shift it. I will occasionally give it a really concerted effort and lose 7 lbs in a week but then I end up giving up and it starts creeping back on. Right now my goal is to lose those 5 1/2 lbs and the end of June doesn't seem too unreasonable. There is, however, a complication - v. stressful atm. I have 90 days in which to complete my PhD! Actually it is in pretty good shape and should be completely do-able but I find that I work best in coffee shops and so end up buying a lot of caramel lattes and cheesy toast type things. I can work in the library and try to do as much as possible but it is shut a lot now the undergrads are gone. Essentially I'm hoping for some nice supportive people to moan at when I really want chocolate as I live alone and have no-one to share grumbles or meals with. Thank you lovely ladies (and gents). :)

leesmum · 05/06/2017 21:39

Hiya, I've been picking a little bit today but not gone over 1200 cals and had a good run tonight so I've redeemed myself Wink
I second the 'eat less move more' attitude to losing weight, whenever I've done that it always results in good losses.
Ready hope you're feeling better, get a nice early night and I hope you feel better in the morning ❤

The Mumsnet Fitbit Challenge is brilliant, a bit of healthy competition never did anyone any harm Smile

Goodnight ladies, I'm in bed with a brew to stop myself pigging out!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/06/2017 22:23

TDEE is 1560 according to online calculator. Nutracheck has me on 1490 for a 1-1.5lb loss a week - and it wants 200 cals of exercise (6k steps plus) earned to balance that out.

It's doable for me. Too low and I cave. Too high and I don't lose anything.

lastqueenofscotland · 05/06/2017 22:25

Welcome Bunny to the best thread on mumsnet!

lastqueenofscotland · 05/06/2017 22:33

In other news I have been less than golden the last few days Blush
As of tomorrow I'm starting to list all my food and exercise in here if anyone wants to join me

If I don't post o want people to harrass me till I do and tell me off if it looks like yesterday and today - ie bill by mouth except chocolate Confused

readyforsunshine · 06/06/2017 07:12

I agree to eating when ill (I eat when I'm well!) it was just a lot of white carbs yesterday, which I have been doing a really good job of avoiding. Why is it that being ill makes me want rubbish food? You'd think I would crave nutrient dense food to make me betterConfused
Better this morning thanks, off for my pt sesh this morning, sadly not hot like nikis, just a very nice young man Grin
Also loving the Fitbit challenge if anybody else wants to join.

readyforsunshine · 06/06/2017 07:13

I'll join you on the menu shaming listing queen.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/06/2017 07:48

Morning morning and welcome newbies. You've come to the right place.

Get well soon ready Flowers

I'm having my ear syringed today. I am actually so excited about it. Fed up of the bungee up feeling and deafness

Stellar67 · 06/06/2017 08:07

Morning everyone. I feel like I'm running about like a headless chicken but I'm clearly not because everyone else runs about while I'm chained to a computer. The Fitbit challenge shows everyone is doing so well and has no time to eat because of the amount of steps they do! (Or they are putting their gadgets in the tumble dryer Wink)

Another day of assessments here. Then we are going to London via East Mids. Quite excited.

HairsprayBabe · 06/06/2017 08:27

Morning all!
Welcome newbies, this is the Best Thread on Mumsnet (TM) and you are all going to do amazing!

I also want to buy a fitbit now as I feel left out Grin I barely do any exercise though so I feel it may just depress me!

10.11 this morning, +6lbs from my weekend of gluttony had a very golden day yesterday, linda mccartney pulled chicken for tea with shredded chard and pesto, veggie broth at lunch time, minimal snacking on cherry tomatoes. Hoping for another good day today to solidify losses.

FreeNiki · 06/06/2017 08:37

I was going to get a fitbit until I read there is a class action lawsuit in the US about the wildly inaccurate heart rate measuring. Also most studies show a smart phone is more accurate to measure your movement as a fitbit will record bending down to pick something up as forward motion i.e. walking.

If it uses gps then having played pokemon go I know how wildly inaccuinaccurate gps is too. You have to walk certain distances to hatch eggs and my avatar once clocked up 3km when I was sitting on my butt in a cinema.

I wouldnt take the data from it as gospel.

Looks like heavy rain has scuppered my cycling plans. ⚡☔⛆

BitOutOfPractice · 06/06/2017 09:39

I haven't got heart rate or gps on mine. Just steps. I tested it against my phone. iPhone was out 20% on steps. Fitbit was out 2%

OP posts:
Softpebbles · 06/06/2017 09:48

Mine only does steps - think is the Fitbit flex or something.

Gah the weather really isn't helping my mood or step count.

Good idea telling us your food diary.

See hairspray the weekend weight is already starting to disappear.

East Midlands Stellar - my necklace of the woods! X

HairsprayBabe · 06/06/2017 09:59

Necklace of the woods sounds like a very pretty wildflower Pebbles Grin

QuimReaper · 06/06/2017 10:27

Hairspray maybe the FitBit would motivate rather than depress you! Especially if you can get all competitive with the Slenderistas Wink

Niki I think the step counting is pretty accurate - mine doesn't use GPS and seems to log me pretty consistently at about 1000 steps p/10 mins walking. I've barely moved around at all today but have been typing and have only chalked up about 400 steps Blush so I think they've really improved it tracking movements like typing as steps. I think Softy and I have the same model.

"Necklace of the woods" Grin
