Beyond the egg in a cup sounds great, does it turn into a sort of omelette?

Golden here! 12K steps, smoothie and hard boiled eggs so far. Miso on the go now and prawns for dinner. My belly is so huge and bloated, it was killing me earlier - sometimes happens after a green smoothie, does anyone else get that?

FreeNiki · 02/05/2017 21:03

Have cycled to town and back, did a circuits class, a pilates class and hot PTs class......I was thinking about who to invite to our wedding during class.

ponygirlcurtis · 02/05/2017 21:07

So sorry to hear about your dad Mountain - I had been thinking of you and wondering how he was. Flowers for you, go easy on yourself this month.
Hope you are doing ok too Quim.

Stellar I struggle staying off the carby veg on LCHF. In fact, this week I have been struggling generally - too much work and life-stuff to do, panic mode is officially here. This time next week things will be much calmer hopefully.

Mountain I am so sorry for your loss, it's very sad.

If I've done it right I think I've had my first two Golden days and 17,000 steps today.

Could I just remind everybody in the U.K. that 5 May is the last day to spend the old 5 pound notes. I found two in my dog walking bag and raced up to Morrison's tonight to spend them.

I don't have any problems with leftovers, I have three dogs permanently lurking 😉

runningtogetskinny · 02/05/2017 22:20

Can I ask what is a 'linda' and a 'golden day'? New to the group and may be being dim

dementedma · 02/05/2017 22:27

May I join? 12 stone 7 !!! Horrified. Aim to get to 12 by the end of the month. That's doable, right? I don't know what a Linda is either.

BitOutOfPractice · 02/05/2017 23:20

Hello hello to the new joiners.

A golden day is a day when everything goes to plan with food and exercise. I've had a golden day today. Finished on less than 1000 calories and been to the gym.

A Linda is a pound. Someone's phone autocorrected pound to Linda and it stuck.

Welcome welcome newbies!

As BOOP says a poster a few threads back typed "lb" and it autocorrected to "Linda", and it just stuck. I imagine Linda to be that annoying neighbour who doorsteps you when you're rushing off somewhere and fusses and doesn't get the hint and is generally a pain to get rid of, so after a few tussles with her you realise it makes you happier to avoid her in the first place than to keep having to find new ways of seeing her off Wink Grin

Stellar67 · 03/05/2017 04:55

Morning, up early to catch up on some work while the small people are not annoying me.

Nice to see some new people. Hopefully will share some losing tips back and forth.

How are you mountain? Been thinking of you.

How is chard? BOOP, have you heard how things are?

Paws I was just thinking I hadn't seen an old fiver in a while. I found a few pound notes when cleaning out a cupboard! Bit late for them I suppose, even up here.

Pony hope things calm for you soon. I feel I'm cheating all the time on this low carb. I think my mind is very much stuck in low fat mode. Isn't it amazing what advertising/diet industry does to our brains.

Hoping for an extra shiny golden fast day today. Halo F knows I am due one or ten Grin

readyforsunshine · 03/05/2017 07:17

Morning all & welcome newbies!
Over loaded on carbs again yesterday & was really tired, I'm thinking it was due to alcohol at the weekend, even though it wasn't excessive.
Today's a new day & I hope to soon kick the weekend bloat & find a new low.
koko I second the theory of not using yourself as the bin. I struggled with this when mine were little as also I'd been brought up not wasting anything. If there was a little bit of pasta bake in the dish not worth saving I'd eat itShock but then I realised I WAS wasting it, it really wasn't going to good use in ME! Hope that makes senseSmile
Also, if you're lo carbing, I found it helped to have a snack like a boiled egg while I was getting their tea ready, I was less likely to be seduced by toast & more able to keep going until my later dinner.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 03/05/2017 07:59

Morning all :)

3.2 Lindas down so far! I love water weight Grin

Yep quim it's sort of an omelette, that is very very cheesey. And takes about 2 mins to make in total! (Less if you're on boot camp and aren't weighing the butter and cheese)

Just having my muesli, root veg and lentil casserole (actually, technically it's a stew if made on the hob, isn't it?) looking good ready for lunch

BeyondStrongAndStable · 03/05/2017 08:00

That should be a '-' not a comma in my last sentence!! Grin casserole does not contain muesli!!

HairsprayBabe · 03/05/2017 08:08

Morning,

11.1, 3 lbs off from yesterday, but I imagine that was water from my indulgent weekend.

Goal for this month for me is 10.6 as I didn't quite make it last month. Was golden yesterday and have a similar plan for today.

Onwards and downwards losers Wink

Welcome to the best thread on Mumsnet(TM) newbies, you are going to love it here!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/05/2017 08:24

Beyond, mmm, muesli casserole!

Welcome Demented, Running and all the other newbies!

10.7.5! On a roll this week! 1.25lbs down and it's only Wednesday. I was really effing hungry last night but toughed it out.

Question for you all: I know a lot of people here are aiming for 1200 calories a day or less, and 1200 is what MFP allocates me to lose 2lbs a week. However, I was reading a thread yesterday where posters were horrified at the mere thought of going beneath about 1350. Is 1200 so low? Is 2lb a week ridiculously fast? I don't think it is! A friend at the weekend said that it was and 1lb a week was more sustainable. I think being on a diet forever and a day is unsustainable (although in the 18 or so weeks since New Year I've lost 14lbs, so maybe it boils down to the same because I keep cracking and falling off the wagon - but I have changed my diet plan every month and I hope I've learned something doing that! Currently on 1200 calories consumed in 2 meals of 500ish calories plus extra for milk in tea. Have tried and abandoned 5:2, No S and BSD but I think I've retained elements from each, such as no snacks, no sugar, eat in set meals, 16:8 etc).

claraschu · 03/05/2017 08:34

Sunshine yes that helps! I had 2 large cups of Barley Cup...

Going to have boiled eggs for breakfast and go to my first ever bootcamp today. For me, so much of eating well and exercising has to do with convincing myself to feel like I am worth taking care of...

runningtogetskinny · 03/05/2017 08:55

Thanks for explaining, in that case I had a golden day yesterday1020 cals and a 3 mile walk 😀. Funnily enough my friends MIL is called Linda - definitely someone you want rid of asap Wink

HairsprayBabe · 03/05/2017 09:07

Cheddar It depends on your personal metabolism, I quite happily do sub 1000 cals in the week, 2days around 500, 3 days on 800-900 and then at the weekend I have more to play with, I try to work on a weekly deficit rather than a daily.

People on this site are very odd with their attitudes to weight gain, diet and food so you will have some people saying they will expire and rapidly lose on anything less than 2000 and some people who gain if they eat a crumb more than 1000 a day.

Go with what works for you, and if you want to boost your TDEE try making sure you stand up/move around at least every half hour. Stops your metabolism falling asleep apparently!

FreeNiki · 03/05/2017 10:05

Is 1200 so low?

A trainer at the gym found out I was using MFP and sticking to 1200 calories and he told me not to. He said it leads to obsession. Maybe so, but it works for me. He told me that 1200 calories a day is not even enough for your Basal Metabolic Rate.

Your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is an estimate of how many calories you'd burn if you were to do nothing but rest for 24 hours. Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the minimum level of energy your body needs when at rest to function effectively including your respiratory and circulatory organs, neural system, liver, kidneys, and other organs. About 70% of calories consumed every day are used for your basal metabolism.

Your body needs a certain amount of calories to maintain its vital systems and the boditrax machine at the gym says my BMR is about 1400. So if I was in a coma my body would still need 1400 calories a day to keep vital systems functioning. But I've been eating less than that and exercising. Yesterday I ate about 1150 and did tons of exercise. But I dont stick to the 1200 religiously. I tell myself I'd need 1400 in a coma and often eat about 1500.

FreeNiki · 03/05/2017 10:06

Find a BMR calculator online to find out yours.

TVHubbyClaire · 03/05/2017 10:34

A very positive weigh in today at 12st 8 1/2. That is my lowest yet Smile
That was after three hours hard labour in garden and no dessert last night , fingers crossed I can at least keep below the 12st 10 mark.

My 10k race(???) is in ten days time and still only one 5k run on my training record this year....Hmm
I guess if nothing else I can walk the second 5k....

QuimReaper · 03/05/2017 10:50

Cheddar I think the answer, as others have said, is that you need to suck it and see, and find what not only works for you in terms of weight loss, but what feels actually comfortable and do-able.

For me, 1200 is a perfectly OK calorie intake on any given day, but it doesn't allow for any treats, and 1200 a day + treats on "off days" (wine, meals out, etc.) means I just don't really lose any weight, and for me life without treats is just not worth it! If I tried to stick to 1200 all the time and hardly allowed myself treats, I would resent it and fail. Therefore, although it sounds more extreme, for me it is a heck of a lot easier to have around 3,000 calories over 4 days and then let loose on the weekend.

But I have lost most of the weight I need to lose and have a very low BMR; for other people's metabolism, lifestyle and body type, their 1200 would be my 1000 (in terms of weight loss, hunger, blood sugar) so it is entirely subjective. More to the point, it's about what psychology works for you; for me, I can quite comfortably live on sackcloth and ashes for a few days as long as there's a scheduled glass of wine at the end of the tunnel; for others the release valve is deadly and the top of a slippery slope, so they need to maintain a schedule to which their body and mind can adjust.

Lots of people will tell you that the latter is the "only" way to lose weight / keep it off / be healthy etc., but frankly as Hairspray said people are weird about diet and weight management, and MN particularly so. I like to think of this thread as the Common Sense Thread where we don't get all weird and huffy and bossy with each other for doing what works for us Grin

HairsprayBabe · 03/05/2017 10:59

Quim I am the same, I would rather live on broth and sadness in the week and then really enjoy myself at the weekend, once I know I can have treats on X day I am happy to just plod along till then.

I am much better when I am at work and busy!

There is no one way to lose weight, that is the main message I have gained from this thread. I think that can be the issue with a lot of the other methods, you end up shouting into an echo chamber. Where as here we all support the different things that each other is doing, and no one is bossy except me but I am like that in all walks of life and I mean well.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/05/2017 11:09

Two separate BMR calculators say 1420 or 1350! Nae fecking use. I'm only 5'2" - I wouldn't expect to need as many calories as someone 5'8"!

Hurray for new lowest weight, TV!

HairsprayBabe · 03/05/2017 11:23

thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-calories-on-a-non-fast-day/

I used this one, it is the 5:2 diet official one, and it gave me BMR of 1465 and TDEE of 1758 I would round down and say 1400 is about right for me for BMR.
