Is Eurovision this week?

OP posts:
HairsprayBabe · 09/05/2017 15:24

Yep Boop Semi finals are tonight and Thursday I think? We only watch the final though, on Saturday.

QuimReaper · 09/05/2017 15:25

That's a great way of looking at it TV - use it for half-marathon training and a great burst of exercise, and hang the time.

I'm being supremely golden today!

QuimReaper · 09/05/2017 15:26

How long is the final? I've never been to a Eurovision party, they always seem epically long.

Squiffy01 · 09/05/2017 15:49

Hi, I've just read the whole thread, mind if I join you all?. I'm 5ft nowt and 11st 6 :(

I'm doing a lowish carb type thing, is that a bad idea? So no bread, pasta rice, sweet stuff but not so strict that I can't have e.g bean casserole (tonight's tea).

Today I've had two eggs and a cheese salad. My dh has fixed my bike today, haven't used it in years. In the am I'm just going to get on it and ride to work without working myself up about it.

Your stories and care/motivation for one another are very inspiring. I hope I've the will to stick around Smile

Stellar67 · 09/05/2017 16:25

Slow down everyone! I am here.

I've been hitting this low carb well, I think. I haven't weighted myself yet.

It is really hard to eat out though.

Sorry I'm not name checking much, hoping everyone is well. Thinking of Chard. And mountain.
Good Luck tv!

It's lovely here, and a rare treat, I am going out tonight, to the gym Grin I haven't managed a lot recently due to work/home balance, and personal issues. Sucks when all that gets in the way. Wink

BitOutOfPractice · 09/05/2017 16:57

You are most welcome contactless. It is indeed Avery lovely thread.

I think quite a few of us are doing a dirt of low carb thing so you'll fit in grand. We are all following different paths but hopefully they are all heading in the same downwards direction.

Hello spurious. Nice read see you over there. You sound like you're firmly on the wagon. I'm heading for a golden day here, proving I don't fall at the final hurdle. Should finish on around 1000 calories and I'm off to the gym later

Hello Contactless and welcome to the Best Thread on MN (TM)!

Double Low-Carb post Grin I think low-carbing can be fabulous for some people: really satisfying, delicious, you don't feel deprived... BUT for me it just isn't sustainable, because I luuuurve my carbs. I just love a big bowl of pasta or a pizza as a treat, and I want to be able to eat chocolate and bread on weekends, and as I understand it, it just doesn't work to only do it sometimes. If you do it properly you're supposed to be loading up on fat as well as cutting carbs, so if you break your stride the whole time, you're just having a whole load of calories.

Having said that, I had a good stint of LC a few years ago and I'm so glad I did because I discovered that I can easily avoid them during the week, which slashes calories like mad and makes fast days much much easier (because carbs really do make you hungrier). I was so in the habit of having a carb element, if not a carb basis for my every meal that it was a really good thing for me to cut them out for a while and re-educate myself, and now it's second nature for me to make protein-based meals during the week and chuck some carbs on the side for DH.

Also when I went Very Extreme losing weight for my wedding last summer I did twelve days with no food carbs, sugar, etc. (I didn't do the high fat element, I was on a starvation binge!) and I got totally addicted to Ketostix, which was fun Grin Ketosis is pretty amazing how it suppresses your appetite.

QuimReaper · 09/05/2017 16:59

BOOP have you heard from poor old Chardy lately? How's she getting on?

BitOutOfPractice · 09/05/2017 18:55

Poor old Chard has been in a right old state. She's on a big cocktail of drugs to help with the pain and after a scan last week is waiting to see if she needs an op or if rest and her body will heal itself. She's got three weeks to wait before seeing the doctor again to make that decision. It's been a right old rollercoaster and, as you can imagine, very tough on her. She has to have total rest. Poor love. On the bright side she can't drink and has lost her appetite on the big drugs and has now lost 32lbs in total. Not a diet plan I'd recommend though.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 09/05/2017 19:15

What did I miss with chard? Hope she's doing okay Flowers

I need a medal. Not only did I resist roast lamb and roast potatoes, but mini egg chocolate cake and pink custard!!! Shock
I did have lamb gravy, but I'd already put my mum out enough - I didn't want to ask her to make me up some bistro Grin then I had an apple while family ate yummy cake, and now I'm "rewarding" myself with a handful of popcorn 🍿

BitOutOfPractice · 09/05/2017 19:38

She's got some very severe neck / back trouble with prolapsed disks. She was abroad on holiday with her family when it got her very hard so it was all really traumatic.

Beyond you definitely deserve a medal for that restraint! Shock

Look at my bacon and asparagus flan. I'm quite pleased with it though the edges burnt a bit

Oh my Goodness that looks amazing BOOP! Also I've just seen there's a poster called "TheAntiBoop" Shock I felt very afraid.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 09/05/2017 20:50

Oh bugger BOOP, that's horrible :( poor chard :(

That flan does look very good. Bit crispy, definitely far from burnt Grin

I also reached my step goal again today. No Pilates as I'm sore, but will do it tomorrow. Think I'll do every other day this week, then every day from Monday

QuimReaper · 09/05/2017 21:11

I only managed about 8K steps today, bit disappointing. I did walk half of that with two bottles of Prosecco in my bag though, so I'm hoping the calorie burn makes up for it Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 09/05/2017 21:14

TheAntiBOOP was so named after I complained, on the Archers thread that everyone was too negative. After that any positive comment was known as a BOOP. The AntiBOOP was a reaction to all the Pollyanna-ness on the thread Grin

Sorry to hear about chardSad poor love

leesmum · 09/05/2017 21:25

Boop that flan looks fit, I'd love to be able to make things like that, well done!
Quim love your Prosexercise
Beyond I think you get Star of the week!
Niki how have you been today? Flowers

I've had another good day but I've come to bed to avoid the Cider that Dh has brought home from work because its a nice sunny day Hmm too tempting Sad

FreeNiki · 09/05/2017 21:25

I just about managed a weights / conditioning class.

Im not imagining this with hot PT. He was really nice and flirtatious and randomly starting conversation with me on the gym floor. He completely ignored me in his class today and was nice to everyone else. What the hell did I do?

leesmum · 09/05/2017 21:33

Well done on getting to a class Niki maybe he's having filthy thoughts about you and can't look you in the eye Blush
