Double Low-Carb post
I think low-carbing can be fabulous for some people: really satisfying, delicious, you don't feel deprived... BUT for me it just isn't sustainable, because I luuuurve my carbs. I just love a big bowl of pasta or a pizza as a treat, and I want to be able to eat chocolate and bread on weekends, and as I understand it, it just doesn't work to only do it sometimes. If you do it properly you're supposed to be loading up on fat as well as cutting carbs, so if you break your stride the whole time, you're just having a whole load of calories.
Having said that, I had a good stint of LC a few years ago and I'm so glad I did because I discovered that I can easily avoid them during the week, which slashes calories like mad and makes fast days much much easier (because carbs really do make you hungrier). I was so in the habit of having a carb element, if not a carb basis for my every meal that it was a really good thing for me to cut them out for a while and re-educate myself, and now it's second nature for me to make protein-based meals during the week and chuck some carbs on the side for DH.
Also when I went Very Extreme losing weight for my wedding last summer I did twelve days with no food carbs, sugar, etc. (I didn't do the high fat element, I was on a starvation binge!) and I got totally addicted to Ketostix, which was fun
Ketosis is pretty amazing how it suppresses your appetite.
