So over the last few months I have been messing around trying to lose weight and getting nowhere - I am actually heavier than ever. As some of you may have seen from another thread I thought that trying something different might help so I went to my first slimming world class yesterday - unfortunately I was not impressed and I don't think it's for me. So I am using a brand new month to motivate me and spending today planning are more positive May and my meals this week. Anyone else out there also struggling but feeling positive about the new month?

I'd love to run but don't feel confident enough yet. I'm going to build core and lower back strength and flexibility first as it's been a while since I've exercised properly. Walking too.

I've found that some weeks I don't lose weight and the next week I have. So I don't fret if the scales don't budge one week. It seems to relate to my cycle too - some weeks I'm retaining more water.

I'm aiming for strong and fit so my knees don't creak any more. And I'd like to be able to fit my rings back on.

Lissette · 01/05/2017 09:22

I wear black, elasticated waist wide leg trousers from m and s - no variation for 8 years. That needs to change. I'd love to wear skinny jeans.

lamado · 01/05/2017 09:25

I'm in. Just weighed, 15.5! I can't bear the thought of another summer this big.
I've tried it all. My problem is I'm such a grazer (I am literally a fat cow!). WW/SW as soon as I've had a meal I'm thinking about what I'm going to have for my snacks. Low Carb/ blood group diet/ paleo just constantly eating allowed foods.
Had a night out with my skinny friend on Friday night, she revealed she never has breakfast, has toast or a sandwich for lunch and eats what she wants for dinner. At the weekend she eats a big lunch and dinner. I suddenly realised I've rarely seen her 'snack'. If I'm in the house I genuinely don't think I go an hour without popping food in my mouth.
So it's no more snacking for me. 3 meals only, if I want something sweet I'll have it after dinner. I'm going to allow myself 1 small glass of wine and 2 squares of dark chocolate for an evening treat when needed. I'm not going to worry about portion size yet, just concentrating on getting my grazing under control. Good luck everyone!

ButtonLoon · 01/05/2017 09:34

lamado you might like the "no S" diet if you want a framework for no snacking!

I'm 13st 2 today and 5'8".

Seav · 01/05/2017 09:38

I WI and I am up 3.4 lbs from my last WI two weeks ago and discovered I was at a new heaviest ever. So another new heaviest ever. Appalled.

No wonder my body is buckling under the stress - I am 5'6'' and 16 st. I was 11.5 st (still too heavy but...) 4 years ago!

I joined WW online several weeks ago on a three month package but never got started. Time to dust that off today I think!

Doilooklikeatourist · 01/05/2017 09:46

Weighed in at 11-stone and 5 lb
I'm 5 ft 5 and want to lose a stone

Less bread
Less wine (😕)

More lean protein
Eat wholegrain , not white

Ellieboolou27 · 01/05/2017 09:54

lamado I've been in leggings since dc1 4 years ago Blush
I'm just like you in terms of snacking and thinking about my next meal, your approach is what I'm aiming for too.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 01/05/2017 10:28

Weighing in at 226.6lbs (up four on my "usual" starting natural?! weight of 222!) and I'm 5'10"

DottyDotAgain · 01/05/2017 10:30

The thing I hate about this bit (just starting to try to lose weight) is that I'm really aware all the time of how BIG I am... when I'm eating crap all the time and putting weight on, I'm much happier because I'm in total denial of my size. So although I'm trying hard, I'm much less happy - which makes me want to eat more..! Hmm

It's very boring but drinking lots of water helps me stop snacking - makes me more full. And even more boring is that I'm grabbing carrots from the fridge when I want to snack!

BeyondStrongAndStable · 01/05/2017 10:35

I'm aiming to do the whole month meat-free, coffee-free and alcohol-free. I reckon I can do it with a short end date Grin

BeyondStrongAndStable · 01/05/2017 10:36

Oh and blood sugar diet general aim of 800cal a day and lchf

369thegoosedrankwine · 01/05/2017 10:49

Hi everyone.

So. Day 1 here too and 11 stone😡. I have 4 weeks until I go on holiday so I would love to lose 2 lbs a week. I've put it in writing, that's my aim.

I am doing 3 meals a day as healthy as possible and no snacks and no wine ( I swear it piles it on me).

Taking dc to Forrest this afternoon so that'll be my exercise and I'm aiming for 11,500 steps a day.

Good luck all.

369thegoosedrankwine · 01/05/2017 10:53

Iamado - that's me I am such a picker not a big meal person. I gave up chocolate for lent and the amount of times I had to spit it out into the bin as I had just popped it in my mouth without thinking was ridiculous.

I am just going no snacks cold turkey - see if that works!!

The nighttime is worse for me as I just keep popping back into the kitchen. I need to change my routine.

mrsc31 · 01/05/2017 11:10

I'm in! I have about 2.5 stone to lose, 3 if I get that far and don't look a lot older 😂

NellyTimes · 01/05/2017 11:10

I'm in too! I'm 5'7" and weight 15 st 1 😕 I'd like to lose at least 3 st in total, I tried SW but didn't work too well for me. Think I'm just going to cut out snacking and have fewer carbs and sugary things, along with more exercise.

Some form of exercise every day is my aim, whether it's going for a run, a swim or a DVD. I have the 30 day shred DVD so might dust that off and give it a go. I've also got the 7 minute workout app for busier days!

Seav · 01/05/2017 12:01

Just back from a one hour dog walk and I formulated some kind of plan along the way.

Was thinking about the snacking thing too - think I will struggle to go cold turkey on it but I can limit snacks to small apples, berries and raw vegetable crudités and drink a large glass of water 10+ minutes before having even that.

Cashew milk rather than semi skimmed - which will help me have more fruit and green teas.

Make salad and vegetables 50+% by volume at each meal.

Make these things habits I follow 90+% of the time...forever...

I am joining late to the party. 3 stone to lose, but happy with 2. Going to cut out snacks and alcohol, signing up to exercise more. Concerned about August swimsuit moment! Will try to cut down carbs in evening meal too.

Mermaidinthesea123 · 01/05/2017 12:18

Started on exante this morning, it's a poor persons lighter life. 600 cals a day costs around £115 a month for 4 weeks supply of shakes and bars. I tried the meals before - disgusting, I only do the shakes and bars multipack now.
Hoping to lose 1 stone this month and 1 stone next month and go from there.
I'm 55 and have a totally knackered spine and I need to get the weight off in order to keep working.

1happyhippie · 01/05/2017 12:24

Can I join too?
I would love to loose three stone. I am the heaviest I have been for years. My biggest downfall is late night snacking, chocolate and Doritos!
This week I have my Fitbit back on, aiming for minimum of 10000 steps each day. I am going to try weight watchers online to follow too.
Good luck everyone

WannabeHippyChick · 01/05/2017 12:36

Ok, so I've been rethinking my whole approach to this weight loss thing, & I realise that calorie counting/slimming world/5:2 type diets don't work for me long term.
So I'm going to be gentle & kind to myself, & try just eating at mealtimes (no finishing up the kids' leftovers...) and eat mindfully.
I've got a mindfulness app with a mindful eating section so am going to give that a go. It won't be speedy but it should help me to address my food issues. (I hope!)

WannabeHippyChick · 01/05/2017 13:25

I wonder how many extra calories are consumed by just having a quick corner of cheese when grating it, or just a slice of bread & butter when making kids' sandwiches...

Loubilou09 · 01/05/2017 13:36

Wannabe - loads and loads!!

I will join you all please - I like this thread as everyone seems to know how to spell Lose GrinGrin (drives me mad when people say they need to loose weight!!)

Anyway I have already lost 30 lbs in the last six months and want to lose another 16 at least. I am going on holiday in late July so have justnover 11 weeks to lose the 16 which is just about doable based on recent track record.

I am just going to keep doing what I have done for the last three months which is to log everything on MFP. I don't deny myself anything really but try and stick to about 1300-1350 calories per day over the course of a week. So some days I might have 1800 or 1600 or whatever but I cut back the rest of the week and it all evens out at around the 1300-1350. I try to keep carbs low and don't drink alcohol ( apart from the odd event). For the first three months I didn't do any exercise apart from dog walking about 10K steps a day but in the last three months I have been to a personal trainer 2 times a week plus I go to 5 or 6 exercise classes per week and also do 10-12k steps on top of that either running or walking (run 3 times a week).

CryHavoc · 01/05/2017 13:37

Can I join in please?
My weight has crept up over the last year or so, to the point where I am now 12 stone 8, at 5"4, with a wardrobe full of size 12 clothes. That's clearly a problem.
I need to exercise more. I'll be running three mornings a week after the school run, walking the dog every day, and cutting down what I eat. The plan is 16:8, fewer carbs, and less wine.
I would ideally like to lose two stone by the end of July.
