Ahhhh Quim I want my golden nuggets!

Softpebbles · 02/02/2017 14:14

Night time is so many peoples down falls. That and emotional eating for me!

Detox smoothie mid morning, home made soup with two ryvita and low fat cream cheese some melon strawberries and a muller light.

Tonight soup and a bacon sandwich. Dog walk and exercise bike.

This is a brilliant thread. I've followed it long before I joined as I wasn't in the right place

Re running. I got up to 5k. Life got in the way and now confidence / anxiety stops me from going. I should add this to my February goal too!

ArseyTussle · 02/02/2017 14:35

Yes Soft, get the trainers back on! What are you anxious about, whether you'll be able to do it? I approach running in a 'let's see how far I get' way. I can repeat weeks if I find them impossible, it doesn't matter.

I got to 5k a few months ago and because I'd finished the app I lost motivation to continue, hence downloading a 10k one.

ponygirlcurtis · 02/02/2017 14:38

Thanks Quim - had another rotten night's sleep thanks to buggerlugs so I am trying really hard not to let tiredness sabotage things. Had a good day yesterday (eating-wise) though. He's a bit brighter today, not so wheezy. He must be shattered too but seems to be powering on! Confused

BitOutOfPractice · 02/02/2017 14:39

Mine weigh in 0.2lbs and it does help I think.

August

You need to try and get your body into Ketosis, up your fats, avocado, butter, olive oil etc.
Replace any carby snacks with fatty/protein snacks: walnuts, macadamias, boiled eggs, peanut butter on apple/celery, babybel, salami etc.
Drop tropical fruits, stick to apples, pears and soft berries.
If you can avoid insulin spikes then your sugar/carb cravings will decrease.

Once you are in ketosis, (could take a few days) you will arrive in the mythical land of not even thinking about carbs. I find it very hard to stay in ketosis as I don't eat meat so my carb intake is higher than most other people who low carb.

BeyondCanSeeTheEmperorsBellend · 02/02/2017 14:52

I had a smoothie with 1/2 avocado, blueberries, celery and yoghurt for lunch, dinner will be scrambled eggs and spinach.
I seem to have unintentionally become vegetarian Grin

Then that allows for a bottle of low cal wine tonight, without going over 1000 cals :)

lastqueenofscotland · 02/02/2017 14:52

My soup was wonderfully not filling. Angry

It's always harder after a really not golden day too I think!

Really want to have a really good month (apart from yesterday...)

KikisDeliveryService · 02/02/2017 15:21

August I don't know anything about ketosis but my method seems to be just mainly keeping away from carbs, or at least for most meals (BREAD IS MY DOWNFALL) and then having a day here and there where I just let myself eat all the toast & butter I fancy instead of eating a proper meal. I avoid having the things that I like in the house so eating it has to be planned. The trick is to not let the 'here and there' days be very frequent! For me it then feels like a proper treat and in fact I don't then tend to over do it.

I guess what I'm saying is that you need to retrain yourself into not allowing it as a daily thing. Have a hot drink instead - change those evening habits. Closing the kitchen after dinner is a helpful one.

OR if I do snack in the evening then I might think of it as already having had my breakfast the next day - then I have to stop and check whether that's worthwhile to eat now or not.

HairsprayBabe · 02/02/2017 15:27

OOH! I like that taking it from next days food idea Kiki I am going to use that!

KikisDeliveryService · 02/02/2017 15:29

Hairspray It makes you think twice! But that's whole point really, just getting more mindful about what goes in rather than thoughtless shovelling.

teaping · 02/02/2017 15:30

Thank god for you lot. I'm pretty sure that without you I'd be halfway through a bag of crisps right now!

Today I'm having a bad day (for no reason!). I'm sticking to it and refuse to cave, but have the most almighty craving to eat anything and everything! I've not really craved sweet stuff or carbs at all so far and except my my 4-smartie-mishap on tues I've stuck to it! According to the sticks I'm still in ketosis so whyyyyyy do I want to eat everything in sight all of a sudden! Gahhhhhhhhh!

KikisDeliveryService · 02/02/2017 15:37

teaping Well done for sticking to it! I don't know how many calories you have left for the day or what your plan is but first up have a hot drink. A boiled egg with some wafer thin ham is weirdly filling and satisfying, way more so than the equivalent calories in other stuff! Or can you chomp on a carrot to see you through.

YOU CAN DO THIS!

KikisDeliveryService · 02/02/2017 15:48

A by-product of having done a fair bit of intermittent fasting (5:2, 6:2, 16:8) is that I now think about my intake over a week rather than each day, which works for me. I'm not equally hungry each day so I prefer to balance it up over several days. A lot of you do really well with sticking to 1200 per day (or whatever) but it wouldn't work for me. I would just feel bad about myself on the hungrier days. If necessary I can move a fast day to a day when I know it's going to work and abandon it if I just can't manage it that day - all without the self-punishment that goes with feeling like a failure. And therefore I don't just give up and go back to old bad habits.

I'm not saying it's a perfect system as I can be too lenient on myself, but it keeps me sane and I'm losing slowly (very slowly!). But as I put weight on extremely easily I do consider it a win if there's no overall gain.

Tweetypie30 · 02/02/2017 17:09

Hairspray, I love pizza too and can easily eat a large to myself Blush.

I need to learn how to get back on the wagon quickly once I've fallen off. I normally fall off, go on a fortnight all inclusive holiday, eating half of my body weight in pizza and chocolate before climbing back on!

Not2bObvious · 02/02/2017 17:40

For the pizza lovers out there (sounds a bit pervy that) I've found a really good alternative. A Mediterranean wrap, looks a bit like a round pitta around 8 inches in diameter, some chilli/tomato sauce, bake in the oven for a few minutes, then top with cooked mushroom etc, small bit of mature cheddar, back in the oven for maybe 5 minutes and you get a surprisingly delicious pizza for around 250-300 cals depending on your toppings. I tried this last week & I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. I'm doing it again tonight for dinner, I hope it doesn't disappoint now! Did a 45 minutes circuit class & I destroyed, hope to see part of a "Linda" off tomorrow😉

lastqueenofscotland · 02/02/2017 18:07

Did raid a few office biscuits today but wouldn't be over calories.... Need to kick this habit!!

Softpebbles · 02/02/2017 20:26

Array it's the thought of not being able to don't and how daft I will look. And I've lost confidence in my Pelvic Floor. Most of the time it's great but then suddenly it catches me out Blush

Have come in under calories and had some m and ms. Aim for around 1200 a day on MFP. Makes me a bit obsessive about weighing things though!

QuimReaper · 02/02/2017 20:51

Welcome August! I must say in my experience the only way to combat constant carb cravings is to Not Eat Carbs Grin That sounds stupendously unhelpful but I really think carbs are more moreish than cocaine. They're a devilish substance: utterly delicious but they fill you up, then they fizzle off and leave you not only ravenous, but with a raging desire for More Carbs (toast in my case too!). I was saying to Claire a couple of days ago that I've found starting the day with carbs just makes you want more and more, but it is quite amazing how quickly the cravings subside when you just cut them. Starting the day with protein is my All Time Number One tip for avoiding carbs for the rest of the day.

Sausage Grin I was going to ask how old your baby is and if you're still breastfeeding? I believe fasting + breastfeeding is something to be approached with caution, but if it's just Infant Related Exhaustion I suggest starting by just having a couple of days where you aim to come in under 1000 calories, and reduce gradually until you find a manageable amount. As I was saying above it's amazing how you adapt to less food, but it is hard at first, so taking it 50-100 calories at a time is a sensible approach, and you'll still see a calorie deficit even in the early weeks. You'll also during that process discover what foods you find surprisingly satisfying / should avoid because they're too many calories and just leave you hungrier (eggs, babybels and chicken soup / anything carby in my case) and also what eating pattern works for you.

teaping · 02/02/2017 21:19

Thanks Kiki for the little kick - I have made to to bed without caving in! Soooo desperate to see that 1/2 lb gone tomorrow morning so that I can at least say I stayed the same this week - fingers crossed!

August id have to agree with quim in saying that avoiding all carbs gets rid of the cravings after a few days. I have wholeheartedly found that, except for today when I realllllllly struggled! But hopefully that's just a blip!

QuimReaper · 02/02/2017 21:21

teaping agree, the odd carb craving will still inevitably crop up after a skinful however long you've abstained...

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 02/02/2017 23:59

Softpebble, my best pelvic floor related discovery was that wearing a mooncup fixes my occasional, ahem, pelvic floor issues. Might not work for someone with severe issues, but mine occur only under extreme trampolining stress, and it totally fixes things for me. I think it just holds everything in the right place.

Archduke · 03/02/2017 01:01

Hi all, especially to all the lovely new people.

I'm down another 300gms - after being stuck a week or so ago for aaages on the same weight I'm now shedding lard like a mad thing. This last 300gms has put me in a new Kilogram bracket YAY [grin ] Grin but not yet another stone bracket - I need to lose another 9lbs before I hit my goal.

Had an amazing walk with the dogs this morning, climbed a large very steep hill then gazed on incredible views of city and blue blue ocean in the distance. Dogs and me very happy about it.

Squiffy01 · 03/02/2017 06:45

Welcome to all the newbies! You will love this thread very supportive and keeps you honest and on track.
I think best for me is when I do go off a get to chat to people and they tell me I'm not a fat cow like I tell myself it's ok and just continue on.
When normally I would think sod it and eat for a week cause I was a failure.

So knackered! Was at work till 11:30 last night now nearly back there again. One plus point with all the unplanned rushing about I didn't have dinner or have time for breakfast when I got the phone call to come in. Slightly worried I will shove something unhealthy in to wake me up but shall get an apple as soon as I'm there to try and prevent.

ponygirlcurtis · 03/02/2017 06:51

Yaaaay Arch - on both reaching a new kg bracket and the lovely walk. Both very good for motivation. Wink

Hope you see your loss soon teaping, well done for resisting last night.

Poorly DS and sleeplessness are ongoing. I am managing to stay within my cals but I just want to scoff and have some energy.
