Age:45
Starting weight: 19st 10lbs on 01/01/17
Goal: 9st 10lbs
Plan: low carb, high fat

Well, it's the biggest I've ever been. Feel horrid, but determined to make this the last year of being a fat person. I''m going to diet the shit out of this mess I'm in! I've see threads to lose 100lbs, but not 140. If anyone else is in the same scary boat and fancies friendly, non-judgmental journey sharing, please say hello and share away.

Checking in late this week.

I weighed on a Wednesday this week instead of Monday due to work, and I'd lost 6lb in 9 days Shock

Got my 3.5 stone award, and just need 2.5lb loss and I'll get my 4 stone award. Thrilled to bits- I'm going to need to keep up these good losses as my holiday is in under 3 weeks!

DesertIslandPenguin · 06/05/2017 13:35

Hello! I was here at the beginning of the thread and then my 40th Birthday happened and I celebrated rather too much and gained back the stone I lost along with a friend for it 🙄

So I pulled up my socks last week and have settled in for the long haul. I'm using MFP and trying to eat loads of protein and leaving fat & carbs to take care of themselves. I'm bulking out my meals with veggies as much as humanly possible!!

We're off on a cruise this summer and the thought of waddling round the Med at my current size is just horrifying so I'm feeling really focussed and determined right now!!

Starting weight 22st 6
Week 1 22st (-6)

swlondonnanny · 06/05/2017 15:37

Duchess sorry to hear that you are struggling. Who is the course with? I know this might not be helpful at all but when I find I struggle with things it is generally connected with my low iron levels... have you had that checked recently?
Wild well done!!! Fingers crossed for 4stone award next week
Penguin welcome back, great first week loss
10stone looks like we'll need a new thread soon...

Great loss, Fairfax!

Hope you feel better this week, London. I'm always more picky when I'm tired and much less inclined to cook properly.

So far today has been good. Bit stressed about leak in the bathroom (kitchen ceiling looks awful) but I've managed to not to comfort eat which is HUGE for me. Looking forward to egg fried rice and perhaps John Wick 2 tonight!

OrlandaFuriosa · 09/05/2017 00:02

Hiya, from me: people's perseverance and consequent weight loss is amazing. Op, don't you feel wonderful not only getting into size 18 but also getting down to a future weight loss that's less embarrassing to declare? I would.

I'm sorry I've been popping in and out: I've just been diagnosed with ME which both explains a lot and is also why even posting gets a lower priority than eg getting dressed or having a bath,

But today I had a revelation, truly. You know how people say " love your body"? Well, I don't. Apart from my eyebrows which I think are nice. But apart from that, I use it a bit like a family member I dump all my problems on and abuse when I feel crap. I abuse by no exercise, junk food, too much etc.

So, today, I decided to use it as a helpful family member when I feel crap, to get it to tell me to work out my crap feelings in exercise. A psychiatrist we saw last week says the ratio between exercise and feeling better is 1:4 so an hour's exercise means 4 of lifted mood.

And further I decided to be grateful for it, I can't ever remember doing that before. It doesn't work very well, my bod, but I can walk, slowly and limpingly but I can, I can swim, like queen Victoria but wtf, I'm not in a wheel chair, I can take ddog for a walk, I have the use of my body, and millions don't.

I decided to start cherishing it and using it as a friend.

I know that sounds new ageish, but I'm going to try.

The other thing I'm starting to do is leaving a ten hour or so gap overnight between my final meal and my first one next day. DSis says this is what the Chinese do re healthy eating and I've just met someone who has lost nearly three stone doing it.

And in the meantime I don't know whether I've lost or gained weight but I've come down two sizes in total, heading for the third, had to get rid of my swimsuit tonight as flapping wildly. Have got rid of the clothes and shoes that are far too big. And people are commenting my tummy looks a little less enormous.

But on the other hand I had prosecco and pizza with my lovely friends last night. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Here's to you all..

Itmustbemyage · 09/05/2017 00:20

Room for another, not so little, one?
Came across this thread and you guys are so inspirational.
I need to lose 6 stone I'm a size 20/22.
Just weighed in at exactly 16 stone I nearly cried when I weighed in Boots. I lost some weight last year but put it all back on and more, lots of stressful stuff going on and I just stuffed myself stupid.
Lost the weight last year with Slimming worldish plan and 12 hour overnight fasting. I hate classes and too mean to pay for online so going it alone. I'm mostly vege so it should be easier ha!
Would love some mutual support. I've got a holiday at the end of July so hoping to lose some weight before then.

Lotsawobblybits · 09/05/2017 14:09

Bit late checking in this week- I had typed a post then lost it Confused.

10stones Hope you had a Happy Birthday Flowers and have had a good week.

Malmsey Flowers Happy Birthday to you, your mini challenge is great & it looks like you are smashing it!

Your course sounds like it could be what you need Crazy sometimes a different perspective can help.

Wild Well done & it sounds like you will definitely be getting your 4 Stones award before holidays!

Welcome back Penguins your 1st week loss is great, just thing of all the lovely cruise clothes you can have!

Well done SWlondon, jet lag is awful & when you are knackered it can be really hard not to eat to feel better- congrats on the loss.

Amazing Fairfax you have smashed it out of the park the last 2 weeks- Well Done.

Sorry about your diagnosis Orlanda, I like your sentiments about appreciating our bodies, it is easy to forget what an amazing thing it is.

Welcome itmustbe

3.5lb loss this week, which is pleasing with as I negotiated eating out in that as well- Pizza Express is a saviour! Starting to up the exercise a bit as well, but that is making me hungrier.

Got a family thing in 2 weeks time and my target was 70lb loss for then, 1.5lb to go so fingers crossed!

Ridiculously exited to see Hairy Dieters are doing a MN web chat- I've already posted my question (such a geek!)

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Lotsawobblybits · 09/05/2017 14:10

Good grief just realised the length of the last post- Blush.

Sorry everyone!

MummysMaison · 09/05/2017 14:28

Hello,

Can I join you? I started my diet on the 5th January 2017 when I topped the scales at 18st 8lbs. It's the heaviest I've ever been, not that I've ever been small! I was wearing size 20 bottom, 18 top.

We moved to France last year, I gave up my job as a busy teaching assistant, and I could only see myself headed in one direction! My husband does all the cooking in our house. He is 6ft 4 and around 20st so he needed to lose weight too. Thankfully he agreed to join me and we began a very low carb diet.

In 10 weeks I'd lost 2st 6lb! It was going fab until we had a run of visitors plus a visit back to the uk and a holiday in March. Since then I haven't been dieting at all and I've put 4lb back on Sad

So, starting tomorrow we are going back onto our low carb diet. I found that it worked for me and after the first week I really wasn't craving much as my husband makes delicious food. Cauliflower 'rice' is one of my new favourites.

I currently weigh 16st 6lb. I don't really have a goal weight in mind because if I followed NHS guidelines I'd be 10st 10 and my frame is too broad for that. I'd just like to be a comfortable size 14 Grin that would do me.

Lotsawobblybits · 09/05/2017 14:38

Bienvenue MummysMaison. love France - our plan is to move to SW France eventually! You have still lost over 2st well done!

MummysMaison · 10/05/2017 09:18

Thanks Lotsa! Day 1 today........already hungry Sad

FatGirlWithChocolate · 10/05/2017 18:14

Bad day today. I tried all my holiday clothes on, and I look bloody horrible in them all. And yet I am much smaller than last year (and looking much better in my day to day clothes, I'm not imagining that) and last year I thought I looked ok ish in them. Clearly I have been massively deluding myself, or buying clothes that just don't suit me. Probably both. Feel somewhat deflated and simultaneously massive and very ugly. Will get over it, but..bleuurgh.

Introvertedbuthappy · 10/05/2017 22:00

Oh chocolate we are our own worst critics - I'm sure you look lovely.

Week 1 down - 4.5lbs off. Feeling happy about that (although wish it was a wee bit more). Will do more Davina tomorrow.

10stonestolose · 11/05/2017 11:26

Hi all, a really late check-in for me after a busy birthday week and weekend in London. I jumped on the scales ready to atone for my sins and to my surprise, I've still managed to lose a couple of pounds! Not sure how as, although I didn't cheat with food, I drank copious amounts of G&slimlineT and prosecco. It must be all the walking we did, but I'm really pleased with any loss at all. I did lots of shopping and found I'm also getting into lots of size 16 tops and frocks. Bought 16s in Mint Velvet, French Connection, Next and River Island. I wouldn't say I'm a proper size 16 in all shops yet, but certainly not that far off.

I'm also feeling a bit slimmer, like there's been a sudden change in my shape. So hopefully the gym is starting to make a difference. I've jumped straight back in and done two yoga classes, a powerwalking class and two 4K runs with the dog since I've been back. I have another weekend away this weekend for a wedding, so a couple more dangerous days approaching. I'll do my best to stay on plan, at least with the food BlushGin

introvert your husband sounds like a good one, mini treats are a lovely idea. Well done on 4.5lbs off! That's a brilliant start.

bubba great news on your 3lbs off, you're on the right track now, well done!

fairfax wow, you're on it with a great 4lb loss, despite the hazelnut torte calling your name. I'm a masterchef addict too. Omg I sit drooling sometimes watching all that delicious food. That Paul Ainsworth American feast, I could have wolfed all 5 portions with the monkey bread dessert all to myself! Sigh.

malmsey happy belated birthday, we're only a couple of days apart. Love the 3.5lbs loss to get your 20lb challenge off to a flying start.

duchess I understand how you're feeling....sending you some positive vibes. At least you're still trying and haven't given up. This journey is so hard and tedious, we just have to keep going and we will get there. Good luck with your course, it may help you get your mojo back.

wild 6lbs in 9 days off is bloody marvellous, well done you! Nearly 4 stones off, bet you're looking fantastic.

penguin waves! Yes I remember you, welcome back and well done on your 6lbs off, a perfect boost to your new start.

nanny good thinking, I'd better start a new thread! I love that we've had nearly 1000 posts and we're still going. Well done on the loss after a difficult week.

orlanda we've missed you! I'm so sorry to hear you've been having such a tough time, thanks so much for letting us know how you're getting on. I love your new philosophy about being kind to your body. It makes a lot of sense to me. And indeed, Rome wasn't built in a day! One step at a time is best.

itmustbe lovely to have you along, welcome! I'm almost the same weight as you are now, so we can nudge each other along. A holiday is a brilliant goal, just think about the clothes you'd like to get into and it should keep you on track.

wobbly another 3.5lbs off, you are such an inspiration to the rest of us in this thread! Almost 70lbs off, you're amazing and I'm so pleased for you. Some of your family will not recognise you at your event. The only wobbling going on there will be the jelly! Star

maison welcome to our little thread, great to have you join us! I'm also low carbing and eat my own weight in cauli most weeks!

fatgirl Firstly, I'm sure you're not ugly!!! I imagine your expectations have changed since you last wore those clothes. The clothes I wear when I'm fat are nowhere near the clothes I would choose if I had the figure. They probably don't suit you now you've lost weight and are just unflattering. I would pick out the best of them, then get on eBay to buy a few more flattering things cheaply and you will feel a lot better in time for your hols.

Stats on their way......
