10stonestolose · 03/01/2017 12:18

Age:45
Starting weight: 19st 10lbs on 01/01/17
Goal: 9st 10lbs
Plan: low carb, high fat

Well, it's the biggest I've ever been. Feel horrid, but determined to make this the last year of being a fat person. I''m going to diet the shit out of this mess I'm in! I've see threads to lose 100lbs, but not 140. If anyone else is in the same scary boat and fancies friendly, non-judgmental journey sharing, please say hello and share away.

Is it a bit weird to ask people for a food diary?

I'm just getting so dejected at 0.5lb off here and there and 3lb on last week, I'm just wondering if there's something obvious I'm missing because everyone around me is losing 3/4/5/6lb a week and it's taken me two months to lose just 8lb

Honestly? Getting a bit to the 'fuck it, it's too hard' stage ATM

NarcsBegone · 26/02/2017 14:30

10 you have lost 2st 2lbs overall and as you say with a busy social calendar! You have done an epic job! Well done.

holy I've been the same and really pissed off with not losing the weight despite having changed a lot even with my fails in there. I've moved to doing 5:2 and since starting that the weight is slowly coming off. I started 5:2 on 20/2/17 at 14st 13lbs and yesterday I weighed myself at 14st 7 3/4lbs. I have found it fairly easy to stick to the fast days but have given myself a 50 calorie buffer. The days that aren't fast days I'm eating a little more than I was before but still under 1400 calories most days. It just seems to click for me. I'll try and write out a few days of food diary because I use MFP and can't screen shot a whole day. Milk is my big thing, I live for coffee and it's just not the same without milk. I don't drink unless I go out and rarely go out so that probably helps a bit although I've never noticed a big difference drinking or not previously when dieting. Don't lose faith, even if you aren't losing the weight you are still putting goodness into your body and that can only benefit. Also have you tried measuring your waist? And hips? Sometimes I find I might not lose weight but my measurements go down.

MalmseyWhine · 26/02/2017 16:23

Holy I do 5:2 as well. On a fast day I eat up to 500 calories, but I don't panic if this goes up to 600.
Typical Fast Day
Breakfast - tea with milk 15 calories
Mid morning - tea with milk 15 calories
Mid afternoon - crispbread with dairylea & cucumber/pepper 150 calories
Dinner at around 5.30/6 - 300 calorie ready meal or grilled chicken breast with salad and maybe a spoonful of rice depending on how day has gone.

Nothing for rest of day except water. If I work an evening shift, I have a large milky coffee for breakfast and eat my main meal at 2pm instead. Then just drink water/tea for rest of the day.

On a non fasting day I can eat the daily calorie allowance for my height and weight. This is currently 2100 calories but I try to keep within 2000.
I will have tea first thing, then around 10.30 4 (yes 4!) eggs scrambled with butter on two slices of wholemeal toast. Sometimes I'll have 3 poached eggs or baked beans with cheese instead. This comes to about 500 calories and is super filling. I don't eat again until about 3pm which might be a another 400/500 calories. Something like a sandwich or soup I have a biscuit or cake or crisps if I fancy them at this time. If I work a day shift I have porridge before I go to work then lunch when I get home at 4pm.

Dinner will be chicken/salmon/steak or chilli/bolog with potatoes or rice and veg/salad/stirfry Just normal family food but I eat from a smaller plate and have things like chilli out of a cereal bowl rather than a plate. I try not to eat too many carbs and don't have dessert except at weekends. I also don't like eating late so rarely eat after 6.30pm.

I don't feel deprived on non fast days, and I am learning to tell the difference between genuine hunger and just fancying something to eat. I call this being 'hungry in my mouth'!

It's working for me so far.

OhHolyFuck · 26/02/2017 19:13

Thanks for replying - I don't think my shifts help is the first thing I'm noticing, I work stupid hours so I don't eat regularly and regularly eat very late

Done well today though - mainly because I woke up to a weird Facebook message from my ex and it's made my stomach churn all day so only just ate, forced down some dinner...wonder if I can get him to message most days?! 😉

MalmseyWhine · 26/02/2017 19:31

Shift work does make it hard. I have been caught out when I've not planned properly.

I'm also lucky because DH is also doing 5:2 so we keep to the same days for fasting each week and I don't have to think about preparing another meal.

OhHolyFuck · 27/02/2017 10:22

5.5lb off! Still think it's a glitch on the scales but I'm happy after all that moaning!

Lotsawobblybits · 27/02/2017 11:41

Fantastic Holy- that is fab news- really pleased for you & we all need a moan, it helps us move on. Part of the reason I got so big was shift work combined with stress & then when able to eat being so hungry eating ridiculous portions of carb heavy rubbish, going to bed late then wondering why I had acid reflux & indigestion Hmm.

Well done 10stones a loss is always a loss. KOKO is the key!

Malmsey hungry in the mouth is a great description of it, I try to find other things to do to distract me- our house has never been so clean.

After being under the weather with bad Gyne problems last week & a ridiculous 45 day cycle (POAS territory Blush), all now okay and a surprise 5.5lb loss, which I am very happy about Grin. I have tried fasting on Sat & Sun the last 2 weeks, whilst keeping up counting the cals Mon-Fri & think it really works. It must be making sure you have the calorie deficit for the week.

Here's to a good & happy week everyone- keep on KOKOing!

memyselfandaye · 27/02/2017 13:59

First week weigh in and 6lbs off for me.

NarcsBegone · 28/02/2017 16:16

Weighed today at 14st 8lbs so the weight is slowly coming off. The 5:2 really seems to help!

OhHolyFuck · 01/03/2017 08:27

Had a really weird, difficult shift last night, ended up getting home at midnight with a pounding headache and feeling sick and had 4 slices of toast (with butter and honey) and 2 hot chocolates
Will try and cut back today and tomorrow to compensate a bit but tbh I was feeling so crap that I don't care too much

Hope everyone else's days are going better?

PinotAndPlaydough · 01/03/2017 14:11

Stayed the same this week, was fully expected as I've not been great and had a few blips. It's like I have one good week and then let it slip a bit then go back to being good again.
Saying that while my weight is still showing as 16st 9 in kg it's gone from 106 to 105.7 so maybe a teeny tiny loss Grin

NarcsBegone · 01/03/2017 14:42

I saw my healthy eating lady today, I see a dietician separatelybut she's cancelled due to bereavement. My healthy eating lady had my weight at 15st 3lbs a month ago and today according to her scales in 14st 9lbs said a fair loss of 8lbs this month and it occurred to me that the reason her scales are always a bit different is because I'm fully dressed GrinI know it sounds obvious but I can be a bit slow! So I really think it's down to the 5:2 that I'm losing.
There are definitely days where my appetite is different and most of that is an emotional thing but some is my sleeping tablets that give me the munchies and emotional things where I either treat myself because I'm feeling shit or go into auto pilot. Sleeping pills are now beside my bed so I don't take them until I'm away from food.
The lady today said it's important to try and recognise that one slip day of eating out of diet is just that one slip and doesn't mean you have to beat yourself up but try not to fall into the spiral of thinking you have ruined everything and may as well just give in. I know I've not explained that well but hope you get the gist.
I hope everyone's week is going ok! I think every one of us is doing really well no matter how big or little or non existent the losses are.

CrazyDuchess · 01/03/2017 20:20

Everyone is doing so so well - this is really helping me keep on track!

So aside from last night, I am sticking to my my calorie count and veering to low carbing.... the scale is going in the right direction.

So this week I have given up my morning Costa..... I am tired and crabby but it will save pounds in the bank and drop pounds off my ass!

For lent I am giving up alcohol- so really want to make the most of March and try to foster better habits..... the fact that my dd laughed and looked at me like Hmm when I said I was giving up wine clearly highlights how much I've been drinking of late Blush

Still struggling with the exercise aspect... more an losing weight I really need to increase my fitness and strength - but I feel like I have a bit of a mental block when it comes to getting on my crosstrainer.

MalmseyWhine · 03/03/2017 09:09

Morning! Thread has been quieter this week, I hope everyone is keeping well and positive.

My two fasting days went well this week. They are starting to become second nature and I don't even feel very hungry at the end of them

I've weighed in today. Another 2.2lbs off making 9.2lbs in 4 weeks Smile Smile. More importantly, I'm now the next stone down and my BMI is just under 40. My heart will thank me for it I'm sure.

Koko everyone.

MalmseyWhine · 03/03/2017 09:30

First 5 Goals

  1. Drop into next stone bracket achieved
  2. Reduce BMI to below 40 achieved
  3. Increase movement. Minimum 10k steps per day at least 5 days a week between now and end of Feb. work in progress
  4. Lose minimum of 10lbs by April 17th
  5. Fit into lady's uniform blouse when I start new job in April rather than men's shirt.
Lotsawobblybits · 03/03/2017 12:15

MalmseyWhine Fantastic well done, that is a good loss. Not much beats that feeling of dropping into the next stone bracket, a real motivator!

Holy Shift work is a nightmare on diets, it is so easy when you are physically and emotionally tired to crave the good stuff. One blip but you will be back on it in no time.

Pinot That definitely sounds like a loss to me- I'd take it Grin!

Narcs 8lb loss is great- It must be hard to balance taking medication as well, you have done a fantastic job. The 5:2 does seem to work, it makes a lot of sense as well, the fast days are getting a tiny bit easier as well.

Crazy Problem with booze is the calories creep up, a SW leader once described it to me as liquid cake and I don't think she is far off! Well done sticking to your low calorie.

I have stuck to it this week, & had a revelation.

DP works away sometimes & when home alone I realise just how much I binge eat. The first night he was away this year & I was pottering about thinking what treats can I have (will power took over & didn't)?But it has dawned on me just how bad my habits are- I was such a secret binge eater Blush. It could stem from being big & feeling embarrassed to eat & enjoy food in-front of people so hiding it away or wanting something comforting whilst home alone? Why oh why does food make us such emotional messes?

Just need to KOKO over the weekend now, everyone has done so well, February nailed- 9 weeks done, every day ticked off is a day nearer to goal!

Have a good one everyone.

10stonestolose · 04/03/2017 12:42

Apologies I've been a bit radio silent this week. I've been on plan with my eating and doing really well with my run/walk. It's usually for just over half an hour at about 50:50 run/walk and managed it every day this week as had a week off work. Also had a brisk 1.5 hr walk 4 evenings this week. So really pleased with the increase in my activity levels (despite being exhausted!) and hope to be brave enough to face the gym again soon. It's TOTM, so not expecting huge loss at weigh in tom, but feeling so much better in my clothes and better in myself generally.

It's been great catching up with all your losses and wonderful words of encouragement. Thanks everyone!! Star

Duchess....thanks, yes a loss is still a loss, we have to remember that sometimes. Well done on your kilo off and giving up costa and wine. The low carbing does become a way of life after a while, but a lot of people find cutting things out gradually helps at first. I still drink alcohol and pick the lowest carb drinks, but don't have any other treats or cheats and that seems to work for me mentally, still being able to go out and enjoy evenings with friends really helps me.

Holy...5.5lbs off is bloody amazing, well done. I can see how you were getting disheartened before. I feel like it's coming off so slowly too. I think we just have to think it will all come off if we KOKO and every day we look that little bit better than the day before (even though we don't always notice that we do). The honey and toast sounds like just what you needed at the time, so don't worry too much as long as you're back on track now.

Narcs...thank you, my busy social calendar is a bit too busy sometimes, but although it slows the weight loss, it keeps me sane and happy to carry on. Wise words about measuring. I've finally dug the tape measure out, so will see if the inches come off when the lbs don't. Fantastic going with 8lbs off!!

Malmsey...I too love your hungry in your mouth phrase, you're so right, I often just want to taste stuff for the sake if it. It helps to recognise the difference. 2.2lbs off, that's great and lovely to see you're ticking off your interim goals. Well done!

Wobbly...thanks, yes KOKO is so key, isn't it. Another amazing loss, 5.5lbs, well done you!! Sorry to hear you've been suffering, nice to have a little silver lining when you've been feeling so rubbish. I'm also a secret binge eater and often have to remind myself that the calories still count if no one else can see them consumed. You are doing brilliantly and inspiring us all with your incredible losses.

Me...6lbs off woo-hoo, how fantastic is that?! Well done!

Pinot...0.3 is still a loss, so well done. Not bad considering a few blips.

I got on the scales AGAIN today, I keep saying I'm only going to weigh on Mondays but I'm weak Grin anyway I have lost 4lbs, thats 10lb total since last week, however I'm not officially logging it on nutracheck until Monday.

10stonestolose · 05/03/2017 09:28

Me...well done with the 4lbs off, that's great going and you might have lost even more by Monday.

Just 2lbs off for me this morning, but with TOTM and the lots of prosecco I drank last night, I'm pretty happy with that. Stats to follow....

Hellooo - so I came to complain about not losing anything and actually that I had put on weight (I weigh daily) but only when I looked at last week's post I realised I gave actually lost 0.3kg (which isn't much but still...)

I know I am doing a disservice to myself weighing daily.... I just don't know how to get out of the habit.

One bonus is that I have started exercising. I am doing C25K on the bike and cross trainer... only managed to do 15 mins on the bike so constantly restarting day 1 but I hope by next week I can do a full 30 mins session.

Current stats
Starting weight: 132kg
Current weight: 127.5kg
Goal weight : 80kg

Well done everyone and roll on next week!

NarcsBegone · 05/03/2017 11:57

Well done everyone.
My energy levels are pretty bad and I appear to be having an ME crash. I couldn't even walk to the toilet without feeling complete exhaustion the other day although I have definitely improved a bit today.
I weighed myself fully clothed this morning and came in at 14st 6lbs so have lost 3lbs since Wednesday I think... possibly 2lbs but either way it's a good result especially as dressed. I did order in pizza on Thursday night as I couldn't cook for ds and felt bad for not being able to do anything with him so that might go on although I was still within calories but the higher end.

OhHolyFuck · 05/03/2017 16:58

Narcs that's so good, even without an ME crash but fucking amazing with! Good on you!
It's so hard isn't it? I'm currently fighting with my doctor as I'm 'too well for ME', yep I may look it sat in the surgery but come see me when I'm crying at the thought of going upstairs for a wee because it's just too bloody far!

10stone totm is always going to bloat you out, sure I read somewhere that it's up to 5lb extra water retention so a 2lb is great going!

lots I'm an emotional eater too, my first thought in any situation is food, like I'm sad, I'll have cake to cheer me up/I'm happy, let's celebrate with cake/I'm cold, I'll have a hot chocolate and a cake
Trying to break that but it's hard isn't it?

malmsey over 9lb in 4 weeks is cracking! You must feel so good about yourself?

Duchess how's giving up the morning coffee going? I don't envy you, I have one every morning too just to feel human, thankfully made at home so can make it fairly low cal but that's only because there's not one on the way to school or I'd be mainlining it there
My weaknesses coffee-wise are the Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes and eggnog lattes, thankfully we're out of holiday season ATM!

I've either been really on it this week or right at the top of my syns possibly over, feel a cold coming on today though and my throats hurts so I'm fasting, partly to make up for the damage of the week and partly just because I don't fancy actually eating
0.5lb would get me my stone though so I'm hoping for that at the very least, will update after tomorrow mornings weigh in

Koko and good luck everyone!

CrazyDuchess · 05/03/2017 18:41

Eurgh giving up the lattes was hard at the beginning of the week... I felt off and was rather tetchy... so just sticking to black instant at work Envy but not craving Costa much now... have also given up the wine for lent and tomorrow is my birthday Sad but it's fine and will be worth it for my health Grin

NarcsBegone · 05/03/2017 19:35

Duchess I love costa and would seriously struggle to give it up and going from that to black coffee must be a shock to the system! Happy birthday for tomorrow.
Holy I'm so sorry you have been treated like that. The understanding of ME by a lot of hcp's is abysmal. It makes you feel like you're doing something wrong sometimes and I often feel very judged by friends and drs etc.
