Hi, I know there are lots of new 2017 threads but thought I'd see if there are others like me with a small amount of weight to lose who want support.
This day last year I weighed 10st 11lbs which is my heaviest ever (I am 165cm / 5ft 5in) My aim then was to be under 10 st which I managed but then spent most of the year bobbing around the 10 st mark, which was fine.
Today I weigh 10st 3lbs. It is TOTM so that always adds a pound or two but my target is to lose 7lbs initially and then perhaps aim for 9 1/2.
Aiming to count calories and exercise as this is what has worked best for me in the past Smile

I ate so much bread, biscuits and cake this weekend! Managed to keep away from the alcohol, back on track now though so I guess the odd blip is ok. I think I need to eat more as I'm exercising so much more but biscuits and cakes aren't the answer...Wink

Winealot · 25/01/2017 19:48

Can definitely see the difference in those trousers davethecat, whatever you are doing is working! I also have a pair of 'measuring' trousers, sadly they are tight at the moment....
My gain isn't hormonal unfortunately Tiger as have just finished my period, think it's purely too much boozing and snacking!
Have resurrected my MFP account, absolutely starving staying within my allowance which proves Ive been overindulging. Hate logging everything but know that for me, it's the only way!

DavetheCat2001 · 25/01/2017 20:22

I've not been great today either. Started the day off ok with fruit and yogurt, but went downhill at lunchtime as I was looking after a friends 2.5 year old with my 3 year old, and in the chaos of trying to stop them wrecking my house, I ate a load of bread and houmous, then had a massive sugar craving and stuffed down a few mini shortbread biscuits I had left from Xmas, and also finished off a pack of opened Haribo's..not good! Blush

I was meaning to go for a run this evening so didn't feel too guilty, but the weather is just so horrible..cold and damp, that by the time I came back from the school run I had decided I wasn't going. I'll definitely go tomorrow no matter what, but just couldn't face it tonight after the day I've had!

Made spaghetti with garlic+chill prawns for dinner, with salad, which was really yummy, but probably overloaded on carbs again, so all in all not a great day.

Managed to do 12,000 steps though, which isn't too bad.

A new day tomorrow though, and I'll be back on it. Hope you all have peaceful evenings x

NewYearNewNickname · 25/01/2017 20:47

Not too bad over the last couple of days here so really hoping to sneak in under 10st on Fri but it is TOTM so that usually effects my weight a bit so we will see!!

Am going to resist a glass of wine tonight even though we are planning on watching trainspotting in prep for T2 at the weekend. I am so looking forward to it but the planned evening also includes dinner and no doubt a fair amount of alcohol so not great for the waistline!!

I've been really good on my 16:8 diet, weighed myself on Monday and I'd lost 2lb, sneaky wee step on the scales this morning and that's other 1lb off. I'm finding this really easy to do, absolutely ravenous come 10am so having to fill up on bucket loads of green tea but the snacking at night has stopped because I make sure that I have a bigish last meal of the day to keep me full until bedtime.

EnormousTiger · 26/01/2017 08:55

I got out my reading glasses and a torch this morning to try to peer better at my scales. I think 9 stone 11 (but 12 when crouching down on them to see the lines better). The trouble is after the first wek or so a pound a week or less is good and is normal for people like us on the thread who are not obese and that is never very encouraging as it seems so slow but I need to remember it's normal.

I remember when I said I'd never get above 9 stone again as it felt so good being in the 8s. Ah well... onwards and upwards or rather downwards.

PinxTheTinxMinx · 26/01/2017 09:26

Great start this morning toast and a biscuit for breakfast Hmm, this whole week has been a food disaster. This can be my blip week, I must be near my period I just can't be arsed to do anything and would happily sit and eating biscuits in bed all day!

I really must step away from MN and the biscuit tin and do something constructive.

DavetheCat2001 · 26/01/2017 11:19

My day of good intentions has fallen sharply by the wayside too!

Had an unpleasant experience at school drop off this morning which left me in tears, so went down to the local coffee shop with DD and scoffed a pain au chocolate and half of her gooey chocolate brownie..oh and a mocha coffee too. Loaded up on sugar but fuck it, felt so miserable I couldn't care less.

Will run later even though it's freezing and miserable.

Hope everyone else has a happier day.

Coffeefacescrub · 26/01/2017 21:41

Hello

I've read this thread with interest. I need to lose about 9lb but it's the hardest 9lb that I've had to lose in years!

I try really hard and do eat V healthy and lean about 80% of the time -but my downfall is later in the day. I cave and eat breadsticks and bits of chocolate etc. I feel like I'm not full up. It's nighttime cravings.

I exercise and walk. But I'm having an early menopause so I know hormones are also at play.

I hate my extra weight! It depresses ma

cathyandclare · 27/01/2017 07:31

Welcome coffee! It's hard isn't it?

You're one of my downfalls! Well your name is, I have too many milky coffees and wine and nuts
I think age and hormones are a big factor, and if you're short/ healthyish BMI your basic calorie needs are low. Mine are a frankly depressing 1377 just to say the same! Most people eat that and lose loads!

absolutelynotfabulous · 27/01/2017 07:32

Aw dave. That's a pita. Hope things are going better for you now.

I guess we all have our "triggers" for overeating. I eat badly when I haven't slept properly. And buffets do something to my self control too. I rarely overeat otherwise, even when eating out.

absolutelynotfabulous · 27/01/2017 07:34

cathy 1300 is my limit too. Depressing.

spally1979 · 27/01/2017 07:40

My daily is 1350, and I seem to manage it Mon-Fri and fall by the way side at the weekend. What seems to be working for me is sticking to the calories and no snacking at night (and exercise/steps).

I weighed in with trepidation as this week hasn't been very good, however I lost 1 1/4! Down to 10.5 1/2. So slow and steady - I am focused on seeing a 9 and then I will set my next goal. I have my two children's birthday at the end of Feb so would like to shed the last 5lbs by then so I can enjoy cake guilt free!

Well done everyone for the losses, this is the hardest time and apparently when everyone falls off the diet wagon so let's stay strong!

NewYearNewNickname · 27/01/2017 07:44

Welcome Coffee and sorry about yesterday Dave, hope you are feeling better today Flowers

Weight in here this morning and I am 9st 12.2lbs so very pleased with that, down 1.8lbs from last week and 5.6lbs this month. Am going to have a weigh in on Tues too so I can see how much I lost in the month overall too, hoping for somewhere between 6 - 7lbs which I will be well chuffed with as, like others have said it is definitely harder and slower when you don't have much to lose and aren't 'overweight' to start with.
Also just checked my BMI which is now 22.9.
Need to keep it together over the weekend and not go too mad! Of to the gym after school drop off for 30min HIIT followed by a swim then meeting a friend for a walk in the woods with the dog so an active morning planned.
Have a great weekend everyone Smile

hello everyone

Third weigh in 1.4lbs lost 6lbs to go.

DH has at last joined me with healthy eating which makes it so much easier. He used to eat lots of white bread, chocolate by the ton, pasta and sugary drinks. It took a medical to change his ways, for the first time in his life he is eating fruit.

Looking at weather forecasts suggests warmer weather is on its way, looking forward to going for walks again. DH will be joining me, thats another thing he wasn't keen on before.

welcome to all the newbies that have joined us. Its great to see that even though we can go off track sometimes we are still here.

Have a great weekend everyone

Shortandsweet20 · 27/01/2017 09:18

Hello!
Can I join?
I'm currently 10st 2 and would like to get to about 9.2 if not lighter but I do have some muscle!

Picking is my biggest downfall so hoping for some motivation!

DavetheCat2001 · 27/01/2017 09:21

Morning guys, and massive congrats on all the losers! Brew

NewYear that's an amazing weightless you've managed! Very motivating I bet!

Really tired today and full of cold, but weighed this morning and have dropped to 9st 3 and 3/4, so I'm pleased with that. Had a good day's eating yesterday after my mega chocolate blow-out mid morning! Had a mushroom omelette and salad for lunch, and then another salad for dinner with tuna. I also braved the weather (-1..brrr) and went for a 5k run last night which actually hasn't helped my cold at all (probably made it worse actually) but at least I can have a break from running now until Sunday.

Going to a finds for a playdate shortly with DD. We usually pick at whatever the kids are having for lunch, which is usually w/meal pitta's, humous, ham and cheese etc, so going to try and not gobble down too much bread.

Making bolognaise for the kids later and will save some for OH and me later when he gets home.

Day 27 of Dry Jan today. I'm pleased that I've managed to stay on the wagon so far. Friday's are the trickiest days for me as that is usually when we would definitely crack open a bottle (or two) of wine to celebrate getting through another week!

Now just need to work on my rubbish sleep patterns. I average about 4.5 hours a night according to my FitBit, so no wonder I look awful each morning! I thought giving up booze for a month would help, but it hasn't at all. Think my anxiety issues really come through whilst I am sleeping.

Sorry for the self indulgent post. Well done again everyone!

EnormousTiger · 27/01/2017 09:53

NewYear, well done. We are about the same weight now. i think I'm 9 stone 11 ish today. My BMI is now 23. I just had a fiddle around and for my height (average for UK) 10 and a half stone is over weight but 10/3 would not be and nor is 9 stone 11 of course, but then even down to just over 8 stone when I look perfectly good is not under weight so there is about 2 and a half stone within healthy normal weight I could be but I know what feels and looks better (the bottom end does). That tallies with what I feel too - that 10 stone and a half and more always feels fat (and it is over weight BMI) whereas under that and ideally under 9 is "normal" even if a bit chunkier at the upper end for me.

Iti s very helpful having this kind of thread as there are always lots of threads for people who are 16 stone, 18 stone with half their weight to lose and they lose quickly a lot of weight at least at first whereas those who just put on say one stone and don't have a huge amount to lose always lose weight a bit slower and also we probably annoy people who are 16 stone who want to lose weight who would give their right arm to be down to 10 stone.

(I think a rest when you've cold is usually better than a run but then any excuse not to move for me..... not sure I can face anything active today, just working quietly at home. might drive to the gym for a steam - I like to do a few bikram yoga stretches in there if it's hot enough and no one else is in - school collection time. My twin teenagers drive home now every day, passed driving tests last year)
Dave,. I had 9 hours sleep last night. I do think exercise helps. I went on a pretty awful walk yesterday - awful because it was very cold and not a nice route and coming back was along such polluted streets with stationery school collection time traffic, but 90 minutes of walking certainly made me sleep very well.

PinxTheTinxMinx · 27/01/2017 10:56

Weigh in day and I'm the same weight as last week, well technically 0.2kg more but considering I've done nothing but eat crap I'll take it!

Back on it today and cleaning like a demon, so we'll see what next week brings.

Well done to everyone else the long slog of January is nearly over Grin

Coffeefacescrub · 27/01/2017 12:51

Thanks for all the welcomes!

How do I find out what my calorie intake per day should be? I'm around 5.1 and good BMI
x

NewYearNewNickname · 27/01/2017 21:24

Google TDEE calculator Coffee and you will find calculators similar to those that work out your BMI.
There is also a thing called your bmr (basal metabolic rate) which tells you how many calories you burn up by basically just being alive.
I know some people feel not all calories are equal but I reckon that if you are using more than you are putting in it is not possible for your weight to not drop and it seems to always work with me, regardless of whether I get those calories from wine or chia seed porridge!!

This morning's weigh in has kept me so motivated, to the point that I am seriously contemplating an alcohol free Friday!! Well done on the Dry Jan Dave, I always use the excuse that my birthday is in Jan to avoid that Grin
Don't be disheartened by a week where you don't lose Pinx, I was there last week!

OP posts:
EnormousTiger · 28/01/2017 09:33

I agree with NewYear - look at a TDEE calculator. Unfortunately given my age (over 50), sex, height, weight and activity level (very low) I only need 1700 calories a day to stay the same weight which is so annoying. I suppose I could take up Arctic pulling of sledges to reach the North Pole which takes 5000 extra calories a day or something... joking...

So to lose one pound as everyone needs I need a 3500 calorie deficit. So if I had say 1200 calories a day that's 500 deficit a day over that 1700. 500x 7 = 3500. So in a week I would lose 1 pound if I ate 1200 calories a day. 1 pound never seems very much nor does 1200 a day sound much. Luckily most of you will be younger than I am and are doing all kinds of exercise I never bother to do so it will be easier. I am not noticing any change on the scales since I got back from holiday on Sunday but that's my fault for checking every day.

MynyddoeddEryri · 28/01/2017 17:29

Haven't checked in for a while. Well done everyone on the weight losses. I find reading this thread amazing as like some of you say, there seems to be a lot of threads for people wanting to lose lots and it can seem demotivating when we're losing 0.5 / 1lb a week.

Weigh in last week I was down to 9st 5.5 lbs which is half a lb loss but then this morning back up to 9 st 6.5 lbs. Hardly surprising as this week has been full of lots of emotional eating.

Today I went for a walk with the view of eating when I got back as it was -5 on top of the mountain. But due to a slow start this morning and being very unfit I've only just gotten home so I've barely eaten all day. DP and I are off out for an indian tonight and due to being ravenous I don't think I'll be able to stick to my 1370 calories that I need to lose 0.5 lb a week.

Healthy eating planned for the rest of the week though so hopefully even if I don't lose I'll at least not put anything on.

Toffeewhirl · 28/01/2017 17:53

I used to be skinny, but thanks to age (I'm 52), medication and a changing life style (no running around after small children anymore; spend my days sitting at a desk instead), I am gradually putting on weight. I'm not overweight, but I don't like the flab around my middle. Yesterday, I weighed myself and was horrified to see that I was 11 stone 6. I have never weighed that much (I'm 5 foot 9 or 10).

I missed Dry January this year, so I'm planning to have my own Dry February instead (at least it's a shorter month Wink, count my calories and start doing some exercise. Thought I'd start with walking in my lunchbreak and am considering signing up to a class as well - I like dancing, so thought something called FitSteps might be good. I think it has to be enjoyable, or I just won't go.

We have loads of high-calories snacks at work - people are always bringing in biscuits and cakes - so it's going to be tough resisting them.

Hoping this thread will give me some motivation and keep me feeling accountable!

FiveShelties · 29/01/2017 10:49

Posting to report another pound gone. So that is 5 lost and 5 to go. I would be really annoyed to gain a pound so have to be delighted with a pound loss. Grin
