A thread for those wanting to lose less than a stone

Hi, I know there are lots of new 2017 threads but thought I'd see if there are others like me with a small amount of weight to lose who want support.
This day last year I weighed 10st 11lbs which is my heaviest ever (I am 165cm / 5ft 5in) My aim then was to be under 10 st which I managed but then spent most of the year bobbing around the 10 st mark, which was fine.
Today I weigh 10st 3lbs. It is TOTM so that always adds a pound or two but my target is to lose 7lbs initially and then perhaps aim for 9 1/2.
Aiming to count calories and exercise as this is what has worked best for me in the past Smile

What do you all use for step measuring? Proper fitbits or something cheaper? I have considered getting one as I have such a sedentary job & drive to work so it may give me a kick to see how little I actually do.

toffeeboffin · 19/01/2017 21:27

Checking in to be accountable.

Had porridge and ryvita for breakfast, homemade soup and more sodding rvvita with ham and boiled egg for lunch. Apple and cottage cheese snack.

Lasagne for dinner.... But with roasted veg so not too terrible.

There's an apple crumble pie in the fridge and I haven't caved!

Had a quarter of DS's muffin yesterday though.

No alcohol, no hot chocolate, been having dried apricots after dinner as a pud if I need something sweet.

Good luck everyone.

toffeeboffin · 19/01/2017 21:29

Cornelia, not measuring calories yet but will aim for 1500 from Feb.

I'm 5'5 and medium build.

I think I'm around 160 lbs.

Should lose on that, hopefully!

FiveShelties · 19/01/2017 22:08

I do not limit my calories, but I do log all my food (and wine), somehow just writing it down keeps me more in control. My average would be around 1500 per day. I am 5ft 4 ins and 10st 3pounds - would prefer to be 9stone 10 pounds.

stillwant - I have a Fitbit, just the basic one. I love it and try to do at least 10K every day.

EnormousTiger · 19/01/2017 22:33

I am almost 5 foot 5 too.
No measuring but it is probably about 1200 a day. When back in UK from holiday might measure a bit more. I roughly know.

PinxTheTinxMinx · 20/01/2017 08:46

Weigh in day for me and 3lbs lost, so that's a total of 7lbs since the start of Jan. I'm delighted and this thread has kept me going. Just over half way there but slowly slowly catchy monkey as they say Grin

NoraBarlow111 · 20/01/2017 09:00

second weigh in 1.2lb lost. 7.4lbs to go
I usually have all bran for breakfast in the week. weekends I have 1 slice of wholemeal bread with boiled egg and 2 strips of streaky bacon.
lunch is homemade lentil soup.
I have apples/pears/tangerines/red peppers/cucumber to eat if I feel peckish.

cathyandclare · 20/01/2017 09:41

Well done losers! Both half way that's fantastic. My weigh in is Monday and I'll need to lose another 1.5lb by then to join you....
May schedule another gym session!!!

Mol1628 · 20/01/2017 14:45

I was about 10st 2 at the start of the year. Now I'm between 9st 7 and 9st 10 so I'm really pleased. I've just made small changes. No sugary cereal for breakfast and no fizzy drinks, and I've reduced right down biscuits and chocolate.

I don't ever want to see that number 10 on the scales again!

meatloaf · 22/01/2017 10:51

I have gained 1lb since last week 😫

I know I need to exercise more. As I only do hot yoga once a week. Really need to up this. I have a Davina DVD and really should be doing that a few times a week. Just need to get off my fat arse and do it.

I don't drink fizzy drinks, only have black coffee. Cook my own meals from scratch. Hadn't had booze all year until Friday night. Even crisp consumption which is usually an issues has been scaled right back. But then had a take away last night and cake in the afternoon 🤔

FiveShelties · 22/01/2017 11:09

Managed to lose a Pound this week, makes four in three weeks. Not exactly falling off, but at least going in the right direction. Not sure Sunday is the best day to weigh in, after Friday and Saturday excesses!Wine

EnormousTiger · 22/01/2017 12:34

All sounds good. Back from holiday I am not now seeing that 10 at the start of the number any more. I think I was 9 stone 11 but I'll check against tomorrow morning as I've been on an over night flight.
I won't be able to keep up 3 - 4 hours a day of beach walking in bare feet in a tropical cliimate where there is no other person for miles, which is rather a niche preference for exercise unlikely to be achieved in London although there's nothing to stop me doing a much shorter walk down polluted streets I suppose.....

i still think it's 80% in the food for most of us. I'm close to my weightwatchers target weight from my 20s 9 stone 10 but 9 stone has always looked and felt better particularly for clothes.

More important for me is eating better makes me feel better. Even just coming off this flight my legs did not feel at all swollen and that is not just minor weight loss, it's not eating any junk food, keeping off sugar, all the air line bread - all rejected.

NewYearNewNickname · 22/01/2017 22:53

Hi all, sorry not posted recently but last week was crazy with work and my diet and exercise both suffered for it!! No weight loss here and was still exactly 10st this morning. Have had a little talk to myself today, basically along the lines of "you want to lose weight and you want to eat chocolate and drink wine, which do you want more?" Today the answer has been lose weight and I am feeling motivated again for this week.

Big well done to those of you consistently losing Smile

Weigh in day for me and a much better week than last week. I lost the 2lb gain and another couple, so I've now lost 6.5lb in total, nearly half way.

I'm a pound and a half from the weight where I start to feel OK in my clothes, so really hoping I can get there by the end of the month. realistically though the last half a stone is going to be a much slowwwwwer process.

Have a great week everyone.

EnormousTiger · 23/01/2017 08:56

NYNN, but at least you put no weight on. I don't think is always lost in the same pattern anyway even when people stick to their eating plan.

I did my proper weigh in after my week's holiday today and am 9 stone 11 (possibly 10 but the non digital scales are not always clear - have tiny lines for each pound). I'm happy with that. I was around 10 stone to start. However as I won't be walking for 4 solid hours a day on warm beaches in bare feet (last week's lovely activity) this week but been stuck at the usual desk since about 7.30am for the next 12 hours I doubt this week will result in much weight loss.

I am sticking to what works for me - just my cocoa (not chocolate, no milk or sugar, just water) until a late lunch of meat or fish with veg and lots of olive oil and then if hungry later raw veg and if very hungry with tinned fish. As I feel better just below 9 stone I could ideally lose a stone from here but 7 pounds even would be nice.

cathy, that's almost half a stone lost. Very good indeed.

My plan to walk to the shop (or the gym just for a steam/sauna) each day and back which takes about an hour of very fast walking probably won't materialise due to work (excuse) and the fact it was minus 6C yesterday and looks no warmer today

cathyandclare · 24/01/2017 15:50

How are you all doing? I'm feeling achey, exhausted and tempted to fall into some hot buttered toast, if only I had something other than eggs, chicken and salad in the house. This is a whole load easier when it warm and sunny, although on the plus side I can swathe my wobbly bits in chunky knitwear.
Bah humbug.

Winealot · 24/01/2017 19:21

Hello ladies, can I join you please?
The story of my life is wanting to be half a stone lighter, getting there and then stacking it back on when I take my eye off the ball!
So, I weighed myself for the first time in about 6 months last week and was amazed and delighted that I was only 9 st 1.5 pounds. Although I didn't 'feel' that slim! Am trying to be good as I have a holiday in 6 weeks but today when I weighed in, I am 9st 5!!
I am a keen runner and pretty active generally, but have a terrible wine and snack habit and you can't outrun a bad diet annoyingly!
I need to be accountable somewhere as I'm going to be so fed up if I'm not a bit lighter when I go away.
Am going to weigh everyday as I know from experience that keeps me on the straight and narrow - have a history of seeing a good number on the scales and then thinking I can eat what I like!
Still don't know how I'm 3.5 pounds heavier than last week, I haven't been THAT bad!
Good luck to you all. X

cathyandclare · 25/01/2017 06:37

Welcome Winealot sounds like the story of my life too. I managed to keep on the straight and narrow for four years low-carving but the pounds snuck back on.
Half way there for me.
I sometimes gain lots of bloat of it's TOTM, could that explain your gain? But I've been blaming that for the last 4 weeks Grin

DavetheCat2001 · 25/01/2017 07:43

Going to share a couple of pics with you, maybe just to prove that just because the scales may not be going down, it's how your clothes fit that matters more.

So I seem to have plateaued massively in my actual weight loss, in fact having got down to 9st 5 last week, I have put on a lb despite running lots (did 11km on Monday), doing my weights and ab workout.

I was really eff'd off and despondent. but decided to try on my 'unforgiving' trousers that show me exactly where I'm at, and you can see the difference I think. So first pic is about 2 weeks ago when I had got close to 'target weight', and second pic is yesterday. I think I've lost some flab, even if the scales are telling me something else:

Dave, yes, you can see that. It's working.
Also Wine it can be hormonal - before my period I always go up a bit (and yes amazingly at my age, over 50, I am still having periods... when will they ever end....) I am sticking around 9 stone 10ish it looked today but should not really weigh myself every day. I had no exercise yesterday due to work. Day before did a fair bit in the garden which was very vigorous garden work for about 90 minutes so better than nothing. I am not sure I will get any exercise today. There is certainly a lot more food around this week with the children and people leaving food over, offerig it to me etc compared with last week alone for a week in an isolated shack abroad wihen I didn't even see a shop for 6 days.

DavetheCat2001 · 25/01/2017 07:56

I've been doing dry January so no booze at all this month, not sure why the weight has stayed still, maybe it's muscle, I don't know but I think I'm going to stay away from the scales now and judge by how my clothes fit.

I've just finished my period, so was hoping the extra weight was that, but it's still there!.

9 stone 6 this morning, and I reckon that's probably where I'll stay.

NoraBarlow111 · 25/01/2017 10:31

Hello everyone

I know its easier said than done but please don't get despondent. I've discovered weight loss is not linear and there are some weeks when we don't lose anything. I started in June last year with 30lbs to lose. During the months of November and December I didn't lose anything, not an ounce or gram.

I made the decision to give up anything that didn't have vitamins, minerals or fibre, the so called 'empty calories'. My two so called treats are home made chocolate sponge cake without icing and ice cream.

I do plan meals in advance, eating lots of lean meat, vegetables and fruit. It may sound a bit boring but I pretty much eat the same things every week with different vegetables. I have seen a remarkable difference in my skin and my eyes are sparkling once again.

I'm not really exercising at the moment, the cold weather has sapped any enthusiasm/motivation for walking which I did daily in the summer. I will do so again as soon as the temperatures pick up.

I've replaced the 'losing weight' with 'getting healthy' I'm also over 50, my weight gain happened during the menopause which was a complete nightmare complete with panic attacks. Those hormones are complete bastards.

EnormousTiger · 25/01/2017 15:09

Nora I eat like that too and feel really good ( except I do have fat on meat and in eggs).

I just went to the gym and made the mistake of using their scales which are always different from home and make me heavier. That was 10 stone but wasn't first thing in the morning and I'm about 9 stone 10 at home. I am going to ignore the gym scales and remain pleased with losing weight.

I feel the same about walking. I was going to walk for an hour a day which is about 30 mins to the shops bank or gym in both directions and then back but that stopped in September when it got coleder and wet (resumed on my week's holiday in the sun last week and made me feel very good) and not continued this week. It is hard to walk down petrol filled roads in smog and feel good about it when it's so dark you can hardly see (today's weather here in the SE).

oldlaundbooth · 25/01/2017 18:13

Not going too bad here.

Only treats this week have been a muffin that I had yesterday, homemade courgette and raisin so at least a bit of veg!

Making a quiche for dinner, will only have a bit, lots of salad with it too.

absolutelynotfabulous · 25/01/2017 18:23

I've been back on track since New Year and I've pulled in two notches on my belt.....but today has been bad. I haven't stopped eatingSad. I've still got 5000 steps left to do, I'm tired and knackered, and fed up.

Hoping for at least 15k steps tomorrow though.

It's sooo much easier when the weather's nice.
