The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Twofloorsup if it fits on my plate - I'm eating it. I try and stick to better choices, but at lumch today I wanted bread with my soup so buttered a slice and chopped it up an sprinkeled over the top. If I want a yoghurt, I put it in my one plate and eat it.

twofloorsup · 21/02/2017 15:23

Thanks Cocopops that's helpful to know. It did fit on my plate with a cheese bagel (just) and I don't feel over stuffed or anything.

Just didn't know if they come into the sweet category.

PosiePootlePerkins · 21/02/2017 17:11

I often have a yoghurt with lunch. Along with a sandwich and some fruit. I can fit a lot on my plate!Grin

PosiePootlePerkins · 21/02/2017 17:14

Cocopops if you put a small bowl of soup in the middle of a plate you could fit some bread around the side. I do this in the mornings, small bowl of cereal with some toast. Otherwise I don't last until lunch! I was just posting on the NoS forum about how I'm not prepared to compromise on how much I'm eating, if I don't feel satisfied with my plateful then I know I'll end up rebelling. If that means slower weight loss then for me that's a fair trade off. Up to each individual to know what path they need to take to stay on track.

twofloorsup · 21/02/2017 18:13

That's good to know.
Sometimes it's only a few hours til dinner and just a bagel or sandwich is fine but other times I need a big plate Smile

beela · 21/02/2017 19:08

I think yoghurts are fine. It says on the no s website not to worry about sugar on porridge, yoghurts, or even peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

That said, I had pancakes with maple syrup for breakfast this morning and just ate some chips from dcs' tea..... today was not my finest! I will mark it and move on!! We did spend 6 hours outside at a country park with bikes and scooters so it's been pretty active - not all bad.

twofloorsup · 21/02/2017 19:22

I've just had a small bowl of porridge and another bagel for tea (so a repeat of breakfast and lunch) as I just couldn't decide what I wanted.
I think I need an early night.

beela · 21/02/2017 19:57

Grin two!

twofloorsup · 21/02/2017 20:20

I know I know !!
Struggling to find any inspiration food wise lately.
Which is odd for me Grin

PosiePootlePerkins · 21/02/2017 22:27

Two maybe you're trying to find satisfying reasonably healthy meals, which don't take ages to produce? Always a tricky one... Or maybe your tastes are changing and you're still working it out.
beela that sounds OK given your active day, not strictly NoS but not far off!
I went to my aunt's for lunch today and she cooked us a lovely roast, and I managed to say no to dessert without causing offence (I hope!) so I just had some cheese and crackers and fruit for tea. I'm taking the boys to the cinema tomorrow followed by lunch at their favourite diner, must stay strong!

twofloorsup · 22/02/2017 07:05

Yeah I think I leave it too long to plan something so by the time I'm hungry I need to eat RIGHT NOW Grin

May batch cook a few bits later so I have something ready to bung in the microwave when I need it.

I'm finding half term difficult as well as it is out of routine.

beela · 22/02/2017 07:39

I know I said it before, but I'm really enjoying the Tom Daley recipe book for quick healthy meals.

This one is lovely:
www.sainsburysmagazine.co.uk/recipes/mains/item/cod-and-lentils
(Not sure if the link will work, am on phone)

beela · 22/02/2017 07:43

Oh it did! I use the pouches of pre cooked lentils so it's even quicker. And apparently only 343 calories per serving (I know we aren't calorie counting Grin)

twofloorsup · 22/02/2017 07:47

That looks really tasty.
I don't think it's helping that I am moving in just over 3 weeks so trying to use up what I have in rather than lug it all in boxes when I move (down 2 flights of stairs and up another).
The kids are ok but I can't think of anything worse than microwave pizza Confused

Cocopopsrule · 22/02/2017 19:21

Massive plates today.
A roll spread with butter and jam. Half a banana, a yogurt, and a kiwi. For breakfast
Small portion of lentils, 1 slice cheese and bread, half apple and carrot for lunch
Salad with chicken, mushroom and 3 small circles or baguette for dinner.
Drinks water, one tea with milk and 1 sugar and now a glass of sekt. I dont think Im going to see much loss this week - but it was really tasty.

twofloorsup · 22/02/2017 20:15

I've had big plates too.
I made a big bean stew and had it with 2 doorsteps of home made sourdough bread.
I so needed a proper cooked dinner !

AristonAndOn · 22/02/2017 20:34

Mmm 😋 yummy

twofloorsup · 22/02/2017 20:51

It was Smile

AristonAndOn · 22/02/2017 20:54

I had a 5 bean chilli with tacos and salad , that was yummy too Grin

GohomeRoger · 22/02/2017 22:08

Checking in! Monday and Tuesday evening was hard. I think I spent all evening thinking about food. I wasn't hungry, just craving comfort. I've compromised by treating myself to an 'options' hot chocolate at the end of the day. Is it no s? I'm not sure. But it's an improvement and I'm feeling quite proud of myself.

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/02/2017 22:12

Sounds like everyone is eating well! Smile I had lunch out today but was pleased with myself, I ordered a chicken burger, fries and coleslaw which all came separately but I put what I wanted could fit onto the plate and left the rest. I love that NoS allows you to just be normal and join in with what everyone else is eating.
Roger well done for getting through the first evenings, it does get easier I promise. Although an options is probably not strictly NoS, it is definitely better than eating chocolate, especially as you get your habits ingrained in the early days.

AristonAndOn · 22/02/2017 22:33

Roger, i think in the early days you do what you can to get through. If like me you are used to snacking a lot, it's a big adjustment and the hot chocolate is not strictly no S, but I bet you ate less than you normally would. I'm now pleased by my hunger as I know I'm physically ready for food, however, the emotional hunger is harder! You've done amazingly well so be proud 😀
Posie, I love I can fit in with the social side. My mil only found out today I was 'dieting' as my dh mentioned it. We have been out to dinner etc since I started and she didn't realise. I prefer that rather than the focus being on me and my choices.

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/02/2017 22:44

Ariston I agree, in fact I have been doing this since the beginning of October and have only just started telling friends and colleagues. They had no idea! I have had quite a lot of interest, most people I've told have never heard of NoS. I'm happy to let them in on the secretWinkGrin

beela · 23/02/2017 10:05

I still haven't even told dh yet. He knows I'm drinking water instead of squash but that's it.

I'm considering giving up alcohol for lent but wondering whether that would be a step too far Wine

twofloorsup · 23/02/2017 11:50

Beela my daughter and I always give up something for lent. Last year it was cake and custard and the year before it was chocolate. I don't drink or smoke anyway so now I'm a bit unsure if there's anything I can give up that will be of any benefit Grin
I thought about giving up mumsnet but then I gave my head a wobble Smile
