I'm looking for a buddy to join me and help motivate to lose some of this flab! I'm 5'7" and about 12st but will weigh in tomorrow morning.

May I join?

I know I look OKish at around 10st 3lbs so am aiming for that. I already lost 6lbs using mfp but have plateaued for a week (sp?) and am getting discouraged.

I cannot exercise due to disability - so it's all calorie control for me. I am on 1200 a day and it has worked really well up until now.

I am hoping I just stick with it and at some point the scales will start moving downwards again?

Or I have to cut back to less than 1200 calories?

Cocoaone · 30/03/2016 17:53

Hellokittehhhhh - I think it depends. I generally have MFP cals set at 1300, and will eat up to 1400 if my exercise lets me earn that extra 100, but don't often go above 1400. I feel too hungry at 1200!

Lorelei - I would say you're much better off lifting heavy - great for your joints, muscles, metabolism and general health. More so than being 'skinny fat' and hitting the BMI number.

Cocoaone · 30/03/2016 17:58

Hello littleleftie! I would stay as you are for another week - could be just water weight, hormonal etc.

Tiger - I'm slightly glad I've only got this week off work, I can get back to a routine next week!

I've had a good day - made a lower fat version of the low fat mushroom stroganoff from BBC good food - it was bloody delicious! And came in at under 400 cals (could do it for less too using fry light instead of oil)

Haven't been out of the house much, but did day 1 of 30 Day Shred, which wasn't too hard...

SoakedinBleach · 30/03/2016 19:14

Hi all
littleleftie I have mine set at 1200, but need to stay under that to lose 2lb a week. Mfp tells me I've not eaten enough but I'm quite short and a small build and so unfortunately to lose weight have to be quite strict. I eat mostly veggie and find if I cut out snacks and just stick to a decent evening meal and something v. low cal for lunch ( salad!) I lose quite reliably. I am busy during the day and drink a lot so don't feel that hunger. I really look forward to my evening meal and eat most my days calories then. This might not be the healthiest way of dieting , I don't know, but it works and I strangely feel I have more enegy throughout the day and sleep better. Not sure why that is!
I've had an okay day! Came in on target for cals. Feeling really motivated this time round so thanks everyone!

SoakedinBleach · 30/03/2016 19:17

cocoaone well done on day 1of the dreaded shred! I enjoy it after I've done it and find it sets me up for a good day eating and mood wise. Getting up before the DC to do it is haaaard though ! Might give it another go now summer is calling Smile

Dalmatian2017 · 30/03/2016 20:40

My goodness there's lots of posts to read! So pleased lots of you are on board. I've had a bad bad day with food. It's only week one what's wrong with me? I'm going to be good to tomorrow someone slap me into the right mindset!

littleleftie · 30/03/2016 20:45

Thanks - I will try to stay under - MFP does regularly tell me I am not eating enough but eventually something has to give!!! Hopefully my waistline!!

Cocoaone · 30/03/2016 21:00

Soakedinbleach - same, I always end up falling off the wagon when I'm back at work. I already get up at 6 to be ready for when DD wakes up, but waking up at 5:30am seems torturous!

Dalmation - just take each day as it comes. Are you following a specific plan? Apologies if I missed you saying so earlier in the thread X

Kreeshsheesh · 30/03/2016 21:17

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle the evening munchies? That's a big bad time for me. I can easily undo everything then!

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardaon · 30/03/2016 21:25

A big piece of chocolate cake has buggered up today's MFP. Oh well. Better luck tomorrow. With regard to evening munchies, I get them too and struggle with it so I've bought a load of grapes and will pick at them instead of biscuits!

Kreeshsheesh · 30/03/2016 21:30

I have some grapes in the fridge - nice idea. However, what I really want is a big bowl of cereal or some other crunchy carbohydrates! I have a giant flake choc cake in cupboard but it's not allowed to be opened until several relatives visit next week! Off to investigate the grapes!

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardaon · 30/03/2016 21:37

kreesh it's the tub of Nutella in the cupboard that's calling out to me! :) be strong!

Re: MFP target mine is at 1200 (I went over loads today by 324). What depressing is that I had porridge with honey this morning with coffee and boom that 380 calories gone. I had a small chicken and avocado own sandwich and popcorn and boom suddenly only have 300 calories left and half the day still to go! I don't think I'm going to maintain 1200 unless I start some exercise. NHS couch to 5k starts on Saturday morning.

Cocoaone · 30/03/2016 22:01

I think 1200 cals is too low without either

  1. feeling super deprived
  2. totally loving salad (and it miraculously fills you up)

I'm no fan of salad, so even a 250 cal breakfast, 400 cal lunch and 400 cal dinner only leaves you 150 cals for tea/coffee, a small snack.

Evening munchies are my downfall too. DH came home with two big bags of maltesers earlier. Luckily he doesn't like to share! But I could murder him - all I can hear is him crunching through the yummyness Angry

SoakedinBleach · 30/03/2016 22:16

I honestly feel full on 1200 cals. This consists of maybe 700/800 for evening meal then the rest at lunch time. I only feel full because I eat a large portion of low cal food, with very little carbs though. I eat a lot of tomato based veggie dishes (chillis, currys etc) and maybe just a spoon full of rice. I've always struggled with eating breakfast so that doesn't both me, but I have a small lunch. Sometimes I don't get chance for lunch at work so have some supper (couple of weetabix or a packet of crisps and a penguin bar) in the evening. I did the 5:2 for a while before falling pregnant with dc2 and found I had so much more energy once I was a couple of weeks in, and I enjoyed my evening meal rather than shovelling it whilst thinking about what to eat for snacks after! I dont want to follow the 5:2 this time as it's a toughie for the first few days and I have a toddler to run around after now.
Try BBC food low cal dishes, there are lots of tasty things for under 500. I cook those and have a portion and a half/ 2 portions for evening meal!

ThisToo · 30/03/2016 23:13

Cheers for the anniversary wishes snoop/FODR
Poor choices at dinner last night and tonight I've hoovered up some Easter chocolate - this is not going well!
Tomorrow is a new day though so onwards and upwards. Lots of people here seem to be successful using MFP, is it time consuming to input info or pretty quick (once you know what you are doing)? I think I might need something to be accountable to everyday to help me make better choices.

MuggleWuggle · 31/03/2016 01:50

Can I join too please?
5ft 4

First time I have stood on scales for over a year, have been gaining weight over last 2 years and have zero willpower! Never dieted properly before, guess I will try food tracking but feeling a bit miserable at having to lose evening wine. Might give 7min workout app a go too in an attempt to tone the wobble!

Cocoaone · 31/03/2016 05:45

I don't particularly like meat, which I don't think helps. I definitely feel fuller for longer without too many carbs, but then I have to up protein and I'm not a good/imaginative enough of a cook to do that with plant sources. I need to try harder!

I also have hereditary high cholesterol, so even though the latest evidence shows fat isn't necessarily the devil for most people, it is for me, so low carb is dicing with death.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardaon · 31/03/2016 07:12

Bleach Thanks for the heads up about the BBC food low cal recipes. I'll take a look.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardaon · 31/03/2016 07:27

That's annoying. The 'skinny' rice cakes bought early this morning at the train station appear to be high in saturated fat according to MFP. Sigh, still going to eat them though

Has anyone got 2 stone to lose? I'm starting tomorrow (Monday).
Cocoaone · 31/03/2016 08:11

They can obviously call them skinny because compared to ones deep friend in lard, they are!
Food companies are bloody devious Angry

Woke up early so got up and did day 2 of 30 day shred. Unfortunately the central heating came on at the same time, so I was a molten pool of sweat by the time I'd finished!

I've got my niece's party this afternoon - must avoid pinching spare nuggets and chips. March/April are awful - 9 family birthdays in 7 weeks

ExpandingRoundTheMiddle · 31/03/2016 08:14

I had friends round last night so I made a ton of healthy nibbles. Who'd have thought that too much raw veg could make a person feel so sick next morning. Sad I did manage to keep off the wine though.

ThisToo · 31/03/2016 08:15

cocoa I'm not a big fan of meat either. I have been thinking low carb might help me crack my sugar addiction but tbh I don't really understand my veg options. I really enjoy meals based around beans and lentils for example but how do they score on the carb front? Do you eat any of the meat alternatives like quorn? FODR I never would have expected rice cakes to be high in saturated fat Shock

Cocoaone · 31/03/2016 08:21

Expanding - a veg hangover is just plain unfair!! But well done on healthy choices, so hard when wine is flowing freely around you...

Thistoo- yes, I love quorn 'chicken' pieces so tend to have those in curries etc. I don't think beans/lentils etc are 'allowed' on a low carb plan per se, but there's low carb, then lower carb. I've read that keeping below about 80g carbs a day is beneficial to weightloss (maybe even 100g?) so pulses would be a better choice than bread or pasta in that case

ThisToo · 31/03/2016 08:25

Am feeling inspired to do some exercise today now cocoa what a great start to your day, well done. I find it so hard to find time and energy to fit exercise in around 2 DC and a full time job but excuses are easy to find I used to be super sporty and still love exercise but, like with diet, I have this ridiculous attitude that if I can't work out to the max there's no point. Stupid really when I know even 10 mins a day would make a difference.
I hope everyone has a good day today!

hellokittehhhh · 31/03/2016 08:36

Morning! On my way to work with my days food packed in my bag. It's payday though and we usually do a pay day treat lunch so will have to skip that!

Did OK yesterday, I did go over my Base 1200 cals but earnt 505 from fitbit and according to mfp I'd have lost 9lbs in 5 weeks if everyday was link yesterday so there's hope!

The only thing I've found to keep me dull at lunch is cous cous! Everything else makes me starving few hours later but a packet of that keeps me going. It's just under 400cal for a full packet which is a lot but it stops me snacking so figures it's worth it!

Well done cocoa on doing second day of shred, think I will have to dig mine out but hate the cowboy walk I get the next day Grin I did set my alarm for an hour early to go for a walk run but the snooze button got the better of me!

welcome muggle!

Have a good day everyone!
