Wow this thread has picked up the pace. Welcome to new people! We are a friendly lot, not grumpy about missing the finer things at all Wink

Eating out, I try and go for a steak salad. With dressing on the side, then I put half on. I always feel I've done well with that.
Hotel breakfast, fruits and yoghurt? Scrambled egg? (Although I detest scrambled egg from hotels).
I cannot be in the same building as a buffet. The devils work. My kids are of an age that parties they go to have buffets and the parents lay on stuff for adults. I usually inhale them all. My new plan is to eat before we leave so I am full, then have one of whatever the healthy option is out of politeness.
I'll keep you updated!
I'm going to my inlaws so I'll be getting force fed whilst be told I'm overweight for a few days. Confused

Lorelei* meal sound delicious!
Kreesh was there not a side salad you could have boosted it up with?

You are both doing great so don't worry too much. If we try and deny ourselves we will want it more.

ijustwanttobeme · 07/04/2016 08:27

lorelei I checked the pizza express website and just looked for anything that was around the number of calories I had left. I do like a chicken Caesar salad, but that would ah e taken me over by about 200 cals. And the size of the salad helped, it didn't come in a litter bowl but on a massive plate so felt like a proper meal (to me anyway).

How about having a starter as your main and then pudding. Or, might the restaurant you're going to, offer mini puddings with a coffee?

tigerchair · 07/04/2016 09:05

Hi everyone, welcome Claire Smile
I've been really busy at work all week which I've let affect my eating as just grabbing stuff. I have more time today so going to try to meal plan ahead. I also need to up the exercise (and get that running started again!). Note to self, it's not rocket science...I just have to make sensible food choices and get exercising, this magic combination will shift those lbs!!! Grin

I'm finding so much harder to lose weight now...dont know if it's an age thing, mid 40s or I'm just too busy and stressed out or, perhaps also likely that I'm expecting this weight gain to sort itself out and not being strict enough with myself!!!!!! Angry

Ah well, today's another fresh start! We can do this x

tigerchair · 07/04/2016 09:11

Kreesh I go for the penne arrabiata at prezzo, with a tiny bit of parmesan and skip the chicken and mozzarella extras. It's really filling! Could you have a cooked breakfast at the hotel...lots of protein eg bacon and eggs etc will keep you feeling full up until lunch? Enjoy your trip away x

Buffets are a disaster zone for me......I just pick and pick.

Titsalinabumsquash · 07/04/2016 09:26

Another one who goes for steak and salad if I'm eating out.

Fruit, yoghurt, bran flakes and maybe done baked beans and a poached egg if we're eating hot food.

Luckily we're skint already this month so no eating out for us!

2 birthdays though that I will have to eat a small slice of cake (DD's 1st and DP's 30th!)

lorelei9here · 07/04/2016 10:05

ijust, it's okay, I will deal with it - as I say, it's not really the source of my weight issues anyway.

To the poster who had a tiny pizza in Prezzo - I find their half size pasta portions with salad are really good, much more like the portion you'd serve yourself at home.

Kreeshsheesh · 07/04/2016 11:26

Hi all. Many thanks all for the comments about eating out. I actually did have salad with the miniature pizza. It comes with it. I was just really shocked at the size of it! (Explains a lot about me, doesn't it?) I was thinking about the penne pasta, but I don't like too much chilli so was worried it might be too spicy! Yes, I'm a mainly veggie (I eat fish) fuss pot with irritable bowel syndrome. I find it all too easy to make very poor choices sadly.

lorelei9here · 07/04/2016 11:49

Kreesh, I think I've seen the light pizza option. Is that like half a pizza express size pizza? To me again, that's a portion I'd have at home - and like the pizza express that has 500 calories, the one with salad in the middle.

so maybe the pasta size would have left you unhappy as well but Prezzo normal sizes are a cartoon in my opinion. I almost started laughing at one person's pasta portion in there once - this giant mountain of carbonara arrived and the poor woman looked at it like it was Mount Everest - well it kind of was.

Just so easy for restaurants to make better margins charging on those I guess.

BanjoPier · 07/04/2016 12:01

Hello all Smile

If you are doing MFP what is your daily calorie allowance? It has given me 1200 a day to lose 2lb a week.

I'm finding that logging my evening meal first, then using the balance for my breakfast (which I normally skip and have fruit instead) and lunch helps to make sure I have a decent, filling dinner. Evenings are my weak spot for mindless snacking.

I used to put in breakfast, then lunch and be left with about 350 calories for dinner which was impossible for me. I much prefer being left with about 600-700 calories for dinner which allows for a slice or 3 of garlic bread/naan bread as well as spag bol/chilli/curry and I feel fuller for longer.

It does mean one has to be a bit organised about meal planning though i.e. know what you are having for dinner first thing in the morning, but since I think about food 24/7 this isn't too much of an issue for me!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 07/04/2016 12:03

dipping my toe in - need to lose two stone, ideally before we go on holiday in July which will be full on hotel breakfasts, eating out, and one week of all inclusive buffets Sad. Joined WW online last night, last time I did WW was in 2003, so it's all new and different, hoping to be able to use the WW cookbook I have from back then though.

Weight: 12.11
Height: 5.6
Age: 45
Goal weight: 10.11
Motivation: too much of me aches and twinges, and losing weight will help. Current medication has weight gain as a side effect, so being able to cut down on that would be a double bonus Smile

Banjo - I get 1450 per day to lose a lb a week. I often end up with a bigger allowance though because I do quite a bit of exercise. I don't always use it all. I'm at the manic, over-achieving stage of a new diet though, so.

SharingMichelle · 07/04/2016 13:15

I just thought I'd pop in and share a brilliant tip given to me by my personal trainer yesterday: (please imagine this in a heavy Russian accent)
"Michelle, I vant you to focus on your diet. Exercise alone is not enough. Next time you are eating something, I vant you to try to stop eating it."

Brilliant. 10 stone, size 12 here I come!

lorelei9here · 07/04/2016 13:28

Sharing, what did you say to that? Confused

TippyTappyLappyToppy · 07/04/2016 13:29

Next time you are eating something, I vant you to try to stop eating it.

That man is clearly a genius. Grin

I was with a friend yesterday who is a yoga teacher and she said that once women get to a certain age they have to face facts that weight loss is 20% exercise and 80% diet. Which suits me fine to be honest - I bloody hate exercise.

I am plodding away still, have had a couple of great days and a couple of not so great ones this week but it's going down not up, which is the main thing.

BanjoPier · 07/04/2016 13:45

Thanks Sharing, I suppose if I want slower weightloss I can up my calories, but I really need to drop a couple of stone before August. I might have to think about the excerise thing Blush. I spent £70 on running kit, but it's never been out of the bag - all the gear, no idea, that's me. I feel too fat and self conscious to don lycra and run - the idea of the sweating, out of breath, red facedness of it all just does not appeal.

I've just actually measured 30ml of salad dressing instead of my usual slosh on a good old slug to take away the boringness of the salad. Portion sizes are a big part of my problem and finishing off dd's leftovers...

parisdreams84 · 07/04/2016 14:22

What plans are everyone following?

SharingMichelle · 07/04/2016 15:59

Like, official plans Paris?
I'm not really following a plan.
Just trying to eat less, move more, and get back down to a size 12 with a tummy that isn't visible from space.

parisdreams84 · 07/04/2016 16:21

How are you finding it Michelle?
Im looking for a gym buddy anyone live near waterlooville?

VilootShesCute · 07/04/2016 19:31

Bad day. Friends house and there was biscuits Sad

ijustwanttobeme · 07/04/2016 21:45

paris Iooking through the thread, it seems we're all doing different 'plans'. I started off low carbing, but am not as strict with that as I should be. Calorie counting with MFP is what I'm sticking with the most.

I did have a jawbone up 24 fitness tracker thingie, but it stopped working about a month ago,. emailed customer services who said they'd send a replacement. So once that's back in play, it'll be further motivation for me.

viloot biscuits are evil. I cannot seem to have just one, so I have to avoid them altogether.

Slight derail, but kind of related - Is there anyone who can advise me how to breathe when doing press ups? Do you breathe in on the way down and out on the way up. Have been doing an exercise dvd that has loads of press ups . I always get confused and I try and watch the presenter but cannot tell.

Meeting friends for breakfast in a cafe tomorrow. Usually this involves the full cooked breakfast and mugs of coffee. Will have to find a better alternative.

Am in an office tomorrow where the cakes and biscuits are right where we sign in and out. So that's at least eight biscuits (as I said, never eatjust a single biscuit). So coupled with the breakfast, I think I'll have done my total days calories before 10am!

Claire28will · 08/04/2016 07:47

Ijustwanttobeme I find when going out for those type of breakfast a plain enough omelette is a good choice as I still fell I'm getting a cooked breakfast of some sort ** and it's not too bad on the calories for the day!

hellokittehhhh · 08/04/2016 08:00

Morning, I've had two bad -ish days which having stepped o scales this morning have seen me gain 0.5lb Sad still I've entered everything I'm allowed to eat today and have 4 days til weigh in so hopefully will shift it and a bit more?!

ijust If im out for breakfast i have poached eggs on wholemeal toast and ask for no butter and try just to eat one slice of toast! When doing sit ups I breath out on the way up in on way up in on way down but don't know if that's right?

viloot I can eat a whole packet of biscuits and it not touch the sides!

paris I'm just using mfp and fitbit.

ThisToo · 08/04/2016 08:12

Morning all. Just checking in to say "Hi" to anyone joining us since my last post and to pass on some of my positivity.
I've only completed 2 days of my mfp diary so, admittedly, I'm still in the super-keen, very early days but I'm finding it really helping and I'm feeling really positive. It also helps that my cold is finally on the way out and last night was the first night in almost a week that I didn't have to get up in the middle of the night to give my ear ache suffering 3 year old more calpol. For me, poor sleep and poor diet choices go hand in hand Sad
I even managed 30 mins of toning exercises last night and am now looking forward to introducing some regular exercise Smile
So for anyone who has had a bad day or two or feels they are losing focus or motivation I just want to say - you're doing great and we CAN DO THIS! Star

Stellar67 · 08/04/2016 08:14

I was terrible yesterday! Have yet to update MFP... Blush
Drawing a line, today is a new day.
