Pedometer Club! Anyone interested?

I have just invested in a pedometer (all of a fiver off e bay). Anyway after discussions in the late bar the other night with Nutcracker, Madamebutterfly and others i thought it may be good to record how many steps we do each week.

So anyone with a pedometer could join in, do you think this is a good idea? We could maybe start in a few weeks when people have had a chance to eat through thier special K and order a pedometer IYSWIM

was debating whther to get a bonus buddy or not, but I walk 204 niles every day anyway so reckon I should be ok...
do you know how many miles equates to the 10000 ateps?

charlieplus3 · 18/05/2004 09:47

No idea, sorry. How come you walk that much?

As a very rough guide, one step (as oppose to stride) is around half a metre so 10000 is 5km or 3 miles.

You've made me wonder now, back in a sec.

Right, I've just measured and 5 of my steps takes me 3.2m on the flat which would equate to 6.4km or 4 miles.

MadameButterfly · 18/05/2004 11:39

I have ordered a pedometer from special K.

I will join in when it arrives.

charlieplus3 · 18/05/2004 11:52

Cool, thats two of us then. Dunno how best to do it but im sure someone will have a good idea. I thought weekly other than daily would be best

MadameButterfly · 18/05/2004 11:54

MadameButterfly · 18/05/2004 11:57

Cos I walk everywhere rather than drive, walk ds to school (1/2 mile each way)and pick him up again. Walk into town, mile each way and walk to local park or shops in afternoon... It just adds up I guess

Tommy · 18/05/2004 12:48

How many are you supposed to do? I thought 10,000 per day but went said that to the bloke in Millets (went into yesterday to buy one) he laughed at me

charlieplus3 · 18/05/2004 13:02

It is 10,000 a day Tommy. Not meant to do it but that is the reccomendation

bloody thing is on wweightwatchers you aren;t supposed to count exercise you do as normal course of your day!!! Weight should be dropping off but it slowly and lingerly crawls off at snail pace.
I assume this is as I do not have awful lot to lose?
Eeeeks

MadameButterfly · 18/05/2004 13:22

Piffle, I signed up for WW online on Saturday night and have started counting walking to and from town as exercise.

The bonus buddy is set up to tell you how many points you have earned depending on the exercise that you do. I have on a few years ago and it was good as it got me walking instead of catching the bus everywhere. It went missing a few years ago now, which is why I have ordered one from Special K

moniker · 18/05/2004 14:05

I replied to this just after you started it charlie - don't know where my reply went! Anyway, I've sent off for one of the Special K ones already and a few of us are doing walking at lunch time. A 20 minute fast walking is taking us 3,000 steps which I thought was pretty good. The person with the pedometer is clocking up around 7,000 steps from getting up to going to bed without including the walk (office job too) so that's pretty good going. I'll try to join in when mine arrives.

Tommy · 18/05/2004 14:39

Does anyone know where I could get one cheaper than £10 (Millets) without buying loads of Speacial K?

Tommy · 18/05/2004 14:39

Or even Special K?

moniker · 18/05/2004 14:42

The Rosemary Conley slimming magazine does them for £6.99 - I could send you the order form if you like. But the Special K bars are nice and in ASDA it was two packs for £3.00, got the tokens and the pedometer is £3.99 which works out well if you like the bars (the peach and apricot ones are surprisingly nice actually!!)

Tommy · 18/05/2004 14:56

Maybe I'll try the bars - it may even keep me off the cake at that tricky time in the afternoon. and what with all this extra walking, one day I might start to lose the few pounds (stones) I've been carrying around coutesy of DS2!

Earlybird · 20/05/2004 12:36

Bit of a "technical" and/or fashion question here for all you serious walkers - what shoes do you wear to do your walking in? Are we doomed to a summer in trainers, or is there something a bit more fashionable that will be kind to our feet as we pound the pavement?

MadameButterfly · 20/05/2004 15:37

I wear my TEVA sandals

Kayleigh · 20/05/2004 16:33

my bf has a pedometer she doesn't use anymore (it was a two minute wonder )so I am borrowing it at the weekend and will join you from monday if that's ok.

mummytojames · 20/05/2004 16:38
