Pedometer Club! Anyone interested?

I have just invested in a pedometer (all of a fiver off e bay). Anyway after discussions in the late bar the other night with Nutcracker, Madamebutterfly and others i thought it may be good to record how many steps we do each week.

So anyone with a pedometer could join in, do you think this is a good idea? We could maybe start in a few weeks when people have had a chance to eat through thier special K and order a pedometer IYSWIM

I quite like the idea of this too. Try to do a lot of walking to and from school. Interesting to know how many miles I actually do walk and certainly if I do 10,000. Will have to order a pedometer.

charlieplus3 · 20/05/2004 16:50

Im gonna have to start leaving the car at home i can tell!!! Ill prob be so ashamed at how little steps i actually do take. Thing is my excercise classes wont count as they can tell the difference

Count me in too. I'll get a thingymebob ASAP.

DH gave a little snort at the idea, Hah he'll be sorry when he sees I walk 10 times further than him in a week.

Tommy · 20/05/2004 22:28

I made a start and bought Special K bars today - I'll send off for the thing tomorrow - I'm sadly quite excited about it.....

hunney · 21/05/2004 14:08

Have just bought pedometerfrom Rosemary Connolly used it for first time yesterday and was gobsmacked that I only managed about 3,000 steps. This is my normal day and I h ave 2 children (3 & 4 yrs) but how do others get to 10,000 steps? Do you have to really go for it or am I just totally lazy?

dinny · 21/05/2004 14:13

I'm very interested. I've been doing the 10,000 steps on and off for a while. Find it SO hard to do on a work day as I drive to work and often get stuck at desk. Then so tired when I get home. Then after dd in bed I can't go out for walk as babysitting quite often (dh working late). How do you all fit in the steps with your kiddies? My dd hates being in her buggy for any length of time - so can't do many that way.

dinny · 21/05/2004 14:14

Hunney - I find I have to do a half hour-45 min walk at least plus the normal running round after dd to get to 10,000.

shortcake · 21/05/2004 14:14

I've got mine on now - and have done 2500 so far today - its my first day - but there is no way I'm gonna make 10000!!!!!!

dinny · 21/05/2004 14:16

btw, Argos do pedometers for £9.99.

It's so hard some days, Shortcake. We need some tips on how to fit in all these steps.

step2 · 21/05/2004 14:28

count me in!

Mermaid2 · 21/05/2004 14:38

I bought one off ebay last night so hopefully should get it soon.

MadameButterfly · 21/05/2004 16:10

Mine has arrived today. will start using it tomorrow

hunney · 21/05/2004 19:23

Second day of wearing it, and was a bit confused that number of steps seemed to have gone up when I was sitting on sofa. Have realised that the way it works is, I think, a shaking movement counts as 1 step (if you shake it it will count steps), so as I was sitting down I had as normal 2 heavy children jumping all over me and it was shaking. So I've actually done even less steps than I thought!

charlieplus3 · 21/05/2004 19:37

Mine still not here. Ive been sitting by the post box each morning

Can everyone e mail me that wants to be in so i can set something up on file. Ive thought we should record each day from Sat to Sat and ill post your weekly amounts up on a Mon or Tuesday depending on how flat out i am. Any cheating like kids boucing on you must be admitted too, same as loaning out pedometer to your friends or your kids.

Sounds good, Charlie - thanks. When can we start? Tomorrow? Will mail you now, Dinny

Tommy · 21/05/2004 22:41

Hunney - shaking must be good for you too! Just think of all the calories your childen are burning off you as they jump around on top of you!

emmatmg · 22/05/2004 07:08

Okay, I bought some special K bars and will send off token ASAP.

roisin · 22/05/2004 10:13

emma - I agree about the Special K bars - dh bought some yesterday at Tescos .. Yuck! In fact all the low fat cereal bars I've tried are horrid - really, really sweet and sickly. Does anyone know of any tasty ones?

Tommy · 22/05/2004 10:53

Have you tried GeoBars? They're fair trade as well as tasting nice - the apricot are good and the cranberry

charlieplus3 · 22/05/2004 12:13
