Pedometer Club! Anyone interested?

I have just invested in a pedometer (all of a fiver off e bay). Anyway after discussions in the late bar the other night with Nutcracker, Madamebutterfly and others i thought it may be good to record how many steps we do each week.

So anyone with a pedometer could join in, do you think this is a good idea? We could maybe start in a few weeks when people have had a chance to eat through thier special K and order a pedometer IYSWIM

My pedometer came yesterday - Im starting today although I forgot to put it on until about half an hour after I got up!

Tommy · 12/06/2004 09:44

Becca - how long did you have to wait for it?

emmatmg · 12/06/2004 10:38

Mine still hasn't arrived..........and if I hadn't of seen this I would have completely forgotten about it

ponygirl · 12/06/2004 16:05

Mine came this morning, so I'm joining too. Not sure how accurate it is though as when I've counted myself and checked it's not been quite right. It says more though!

I'll start keeping a record of my steps today. Do I contact you Charlie at the end of the week?

CP3 · 12/06/2004 16:12

Yes Pony girl. e mail me sun Morn or mon. [email protected]

CP3 · 12/06/2004 19:08

Right im finishing my days walking now, kids are in bed so ill only be lounging about anyway.Havnt quite made 10,000 but nearly.

MadameButterfly · 14/06/2004 18:50

I have lost mine, so just waiting for a new one to arrive before I can start.

CP3 · 14/06/2004 19:06

ive done so much walking today as only managed just over 5,000 yesterday

Tommy · 16/06/2004 12:38

Had a letter from Kelloggs today saying that due to "heavy demand beyond our expectations" they don't have any at the moment but some will arrive in the next 5-8 weeks! Bloody hell - I don't even like Special K and I only bought the bars to get the pedometer. Don't know what to do now - may phone them and ask to send the cheque back and buy one for £9.99 in Millets so maybe start next week!

MadameButterfly · 16/06/2004 15:12

Argos also do one for £9.95.

Chinchilla · 16/06/2004 20:33

Tommy - I applied for my Kelloggs one too - no letter yet though

Sonnet · 17/06/2004 14:01

Would like to join in
Just reserved one from Argos and will collect tomorrow..
Looking forward to this!
How are you all getting on?

MadameButterfly · 17/06/2004 14:22

I have just got the Argos one.

Sonnet · 17/06/2004 14:29

looked a bit comlicated on-line - it is easier to use than it looks??

MadameButterfly · 17/06/2004 14:42

yes it is fairly easy to use

MadameButterfly · 18/06/2004 09:08

About 5 years ago I bought myself a mini-stepper from Agros similar to this . I used ir fairly reguarly, but when we moved her 4.5 years ago it went nto the loft.

I have just got it down now and will be using it to make sure that I do 10,000 steps per day. I have decided that I will do the house work until DD goes to bed, come on the net about 8pm until BB starts and use the stepper while watching telly.

CP3 · 18/06/2004 18:48

Ok Ive finished my weeks walking as from &pm tonight once kiddies are in bed. Doubtfull if ive managed 70,000 steps this week, but we will see.

Will anyone be e mailing me this week with thier weeks results?

ponygirl · 18/06/2004 19:04

Yes, will email you tomorrow, though I'm not sure mine's working properly today (honest!). It dropped in ds2's bath last night and today doesn't seem to be recording enough steps. Will hope it just hasn't dried out properly and will let you know tonight/tomorrow am.

MadameButterfly · 18/06/2004 20:24

I have done almost 8500 today, but I will use my stepper for 30 mins or so later tonight so that will increase.

I have only just started using it today so it will be next week before I email you.

emmatmg · 18/06/2004 20:51

Tommy, I got that letter too. I hadn't thought about trying to get the cheque back to buy a different one.............do you think it's possible? I mean, if they've had so many requests for them would they be able to find our cheques amongst everyone elses?

Chinchilla · 18/06/2004 20:53

I got my letter this morning. How easy is it to do 10,000 steps a day? I walked to Tesco and back on Wed morning, and worked out that it was about 3,000 steps there and back. Apart from walking about the house, and general other walking, I don't do much more than that a day. Is it possible?

Earlybird · 18/06/2004 21:08

Hi - think I need some help programming my pedometer. I have been walking a good bit lately, but seem to either have improbably good results (which make me suspicious), or very poor results (which make me question the accuracy). What is the average stride length for a typical woman? I've had mine set at 2.5. By the way, I'm using an ancient pedometer that doesn't measure steps - only distance - as the plastic belt clip on my nice new pedometer broke off a few days ago! Help please!

Twink · 18/06/2004 22:29

Earlybird, are you Imperial or Metric ??? A step would be around 0.5-0.6 m for an average size woman which would be around 20-24 inches so I'm not sure what your 2.5 is ?? Would certainly account for your wierd results !

Tommy · 19/06/2004 09:41

I phoned them and they said they would send the cheque back - all I had to tell them was when I'd sent it - guess they file them on date order. He didn't sound very surprised at all!

CP3 · 19/06/2004 10:36

All these excuses, i dunno .

Think i will buy one of those step things that MB has as i notice a real drop in my steps when ive done a days work on the comp.
