Morning! Stayed the same this morning, hardly surprising after the Ben & Jerrys and homemade chicken curry yesterday. Today will be better.

I just read back the posts and already can't remember much! Something about bmr and t something or other...I'm information led so will be reading up on that shortly. I'm 5'2 almost and far too heavy but thinner than I was. It would interesting to see how much I can theoretically eat if I ever reach a healthy weight.

Irishe you are doing fab with your weightloss! If I could lose a stone in a month, I could be at my ultimate goal by Christmas but this just isn't going to happen. If I can get in the low 10s, I will rejoice. Emz how frustrating for you. You'll probably have a sudden drop and wake up 10 and half stone!
Happy Tuesday everyone!

MajesticWhine · 29/09/2015 10:46

BMR is not especially useful as a concept. Not many of us are that lazy. TDEE is more helpful. That estimates what you actually burn and if you calculate your TDEE using body fat percentage it is more accurate. Lower body fat means higher TDEE because muscle burns more calories (even if you're doing nothing). You need a deficit of 3500 calories to lose a pound. So to lose a pound a week, you need a 500 deficit per day, so TDEE - 500 calories per day.

Ha if only MrsDLH!!

I'm still none the wiser Grin but I'll take the figures MFP gave me as my starting point. Even a tiny deficit will cause weight loss over time, like 100 calories a day, which is probably the reverse of how I gained weight over last three years with a tiny surplus? I'm naturally greedy Blush so I don't think I'll do well with a big deficit, I think I'll end up rebelling against it. But I do want it to come off faster than it went on!

psychotropic · 29/09/2015 14:53

is the deficit the difference between your net and gross calories? Where it says how many you have left over?

Emz449 · 29/09/2015 15:14

The day is going well so far! No extra calories sneaking in or food in the office which is a blessing. I'm feeling positive for an on plan evening too.

Does anyone use Netflix? Any good recommendations for a series to watch? I've watched orange is The new black, sons of anarchy, breaking bad, the good wife and American horror show yes I have lots of free time if I invest in a good box set then that usually stops me snacking!

MajesticWhine · 29/09/2015 15:27

Deficit is difference between TDEE and calories you eat. It's not displayed on MFP but it's already built in to your goal so when you have 0 calories remaining you have achieved the deficit you need to lose weight.

Not2bObvious · 29/09/2015 15:32

Unbreakable Kimmy Scmidt is very funny. Bloodline, Orphan Black, Dextor, ehh looks like I'm another 1 with too much time on her hands. Top of the lake is brilliant, dark and disturbing but I loved it.
I'm doing pretty ok too. I'm allowing myself a couple of snacks throughout the day and it's keepin me within Cals and happy'ish. Going for a walk when I stop work in around 45 mins. Going to have a quick cuppa now and a snack
Whopper!

Not2bObvious · 29/09/2015 15:33

Whoppee not whopper, damn now I want a whopper. Sucky iPhone Angry

psychotropic · 29/09/2015 16:00

Thanks majestic that makes more sense, much simpler. I hope a week or two is long enough to tell how much is enough to lose weight without feeling like I'm missing out on anything. The people on the MFP community seem a bit scary don't they!

psychotropic · 29/09/2015 16:05

I'm already over 1000 calories and wouldn't have thought I'd eaten much at all. Any ideas for an evening meal of under 800 calories?!!

Not2bObvious · 29/09/2015 16:31

800 Cals? You could have a Big Mac and chips nearlyWink
I'm having a breaded chicken fillet and 150gr of baby potatoes (parboiled, seasoned, a little spray oil then baked) That's around 300 Cals.

psychotropic · 29/09/2015 17:03

I could murder a Big Mac right now! Instead I'm going to have a personal sized chicken feast pizza from dominoes and two cookies. If I get through the night without picking at anything it will be a miracle it means I'm on track at 1755 calories for the day!

MajesticWhine · 29/09/2015 17:14

800 is loads Envy. I'm having a beef stir fry and that is just over 500.

psychotropic · 29/09/2015 17:21

That sounds really good. MFP thinks I live on takeaways Blush

lermontova · 29/09/2015 17:23

If you like the Good Wife try Scandal! I love that, also Once Upon a Time, Supernatural, West Wing, Parks & Recreation.

Congrats on almost a stone in a month Irishe, that is fantastic! It's very inspirational to see that other people can do this, makes me think there is a point in all this effort.

Is there any easy way to calculate body fat percentage or do you need special scales to do this?

Emz449 · 29/09/2015 18:47

i'd love to have 800 calories for dinner, i'm a big grazer though especially at work so it would never happen. Very jealous of your pizza! I was actually under calories for the day so I tried one of the new galaxy duet bars and it was great and only 190 calories.

thank you for all your recommendations! i'll have a little look through tonight Smile

I'm not sure about body fat, my scales do it for me, currently 18% which i was quite happy about! I'm not sure how accurate they are though. I believe maybe boots might measure it on their scales?

OP posts:
MajesticWhine · 29/09/2015 18:52

My scales are Tanita ones which measure body fat. Mine is apparently 31.5% which seems really high. It does tell me that it is within the"ok" range for my age though (just). I would love to get it down a bit. Emz you sound like you are a supreme athlete at 18%.

Emz449 · 29/09/2015 19:16

Yeah i suppose, but then my BMI is still technically overweight Majestic, makes no sense to me! I do have quite a muscly body though and legs like tree trunks

Oops. I weigh most things except for spinach/chilli/garlic or things that are pre portioned. History of eating disorder
I eat around my BMR which is about 1200 calls. Happy to give stars if it helps work anything out

goodasitgets · 29/09/2015 20:10

Ps I know I am really fat Blushso please be kind! I'm just bored of sitting amongst people who eat constantly all day while I go to bed so I can sleep through being hungry
