Glad to hear your daughter is felling better Not2

Welcome psycho! I haven't upgraded and find it just as good, I'm not too sure what else the upgrade would offer me really? I also make sure I weigh everything that isn't pre packaged, it surprised me how much I was underestimating things like pasta and rice!

OP posts:
Emz449 · 27/09/2015 11:28

I also stayed the same this morning, maybe tomorrow!

Thanks for the welcome! You've all done so well! What do you put in MFP if you are having lunch with friends and they've made something like lasagne and you don't want to interrogate them as to ingredients etc! Also does it matter when you weigh in? We don't have bathroom scales so I will use the gym ones for now.

Emz449 · 27/09/2015 11:56

Well I always weigh myself first thing after I've been to the loo and also naked Grin but if you do the same thing every week it shouldn't really matter you'll still see a loss.

I suppose with friends making food I would try and guess really and see what number would suit it best. Maybe also look up what calories other receives would be? I'd probably over estimate really to be safe

Morning all
Welcome psycho, jump aboard the mfp weight loss bus.

I always weigh myself first thing in the morning, after loo and naked, like emz. Having said that I have lost weight in the past with no scales but doing a Monday evening weigh in at weight watchers. With clothes obviously! Key thing is same time of day I think.

If I was eating out or at a friends I would guesstimate by looking at the cals for that food on mfp and choosing the largest one, to err on side of caution.

not2 good news daughter is recovering.
I am really quite poorly with throat infection. I have had my comfort food of macaroni cheese and garlic bread for last 2 nights, but that's all I have eaten all day so still within cals. The weight continues to drop off, I have now lost 5lbs this week, which is unbelievable. In fact I don't believe it! I know I am not drinking as much due to pain of swallowing, so it's probably related to that. I will no doubt wake up like a dehydrated husk tomorrow morning, having reached goal overnight!

As you can see I am trying to downplay this weight loss in case it is a temp blip, don't want to be upset if it jumps upwards.

Good luck all

Not2bObvious · 27/09/2015 13:40

You poor thing irishe, hope you feel better soon. I'm aching after my workout yesterday, but managed a 25 minute slow jog and then another 40 minutes walking. I really struggle to sit still these days, such a pity it has so little impact on my weight. Although without it I would probably gain over time, keeps the wolf from the door.

Emz449 · 27/09/2015 17:06

I hope you're feeling better soon irishe it sounds horrible, don't downplay your weight loss though, a loss is still a loss!

Today has been good day, met a friend in the centre to go shopping and managed to get pretty much everything ready for my holiday so thats all sorted, i didn't spent too much either which is always good. Had a subway for lunch which really isn't that bad! 300 calories. Low calorie dinner too Smile

OP posts:
irishe · 27/09/2015 19:27

Evening,
Thanks for the good wishes guys. I am still rough but not getting worse anymore so I am hoping it has peaked.
I have just had a massive dinner of pasta and garlic bread which has put me 200 cals over for the day. Ah well.
Tomorrows weigh in will be interesting.

not2 you are very active, disappointing you feel it does not help with weight loss, I guess like you say, it stops you gaining.

emz, you have put me in mind of a subway! It's been years since I had one. Not for any particular reason, just was never near one whilst at work.

Look forward to tomorrow's check ins.

Emz449 · 27/09/2015 19:39

Not2 have you measured yourself? It might not impact the scales but you could be losing inches, worth checking Smile

Irishe i don't often have them either but it really was great and a bit of a bargain calorie wise i think.

Low carbing all week next week, apart from breakfast which will be weetabix! I find i need carbs in the morning to get me going wake up. Lots of chicken and green veg has been bought along with salad ingredients for lunch. Hopefully it will shake things up weight loss wise. There are still 4 weigh ins until October is here! I think i'm going to give Stopober a go, drinking AND smoking Shock.

Also i've decided that i'm going to give next weekend at the rib and burger restaurant a miss. I just know that i will spend and eat too much and with my holiday being two months away every penny and pound counts. Especially after the shopping spree today. Thing is i always get guilted into things Hmm while it's lovely that they want me there, at the moment i would just rather concentrate on my diet and holiday. I've got to book transport to the airport and also i'm going to London at the end of October which has been planned for a while

Not2bObvious · 27/09/2015 19:58

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I suppose the disappointment around the exercise is how little you have to put in your gob to wipe out a work out. I do genuinely enjoy the activity, it's just the child in me stamping their foot that I'm not instantly trim & toned.
Whatever about the odd drink emz, ditching the smokes would be great from a health and then finance PoV. I gave up around 7 years ago, odd slip but never went back. Imagine 2 months of no cig money, that would be a nice boost to the holiday fund. As long as you're not missing an important (as in good fun/friends) night out I think you're dead right to pass on the meat feastGrin

MrsDLH · 27/09/2015 20:14

Hi everyone! May I join you all, please? I have read the 1000 post part 1 thread and found it most thinspirational. I've been doing mfp on and off for a few years and had a serious go between January and May this year, losing 24lb. I stopped to 'maintain' as my wedding dress fit and I didn't want it too big but have since managed to put on 7lb, lose a few, gain a few etc for the past few weeks. I need to get serious again. I want to get to my May low of 11 stone 3 then get another stone off by Christmas. Then reassess my goal. You ladies have done amazingly. Help me!

Emz449 · 27/09/2015 21:20

Hello MrsDLH and welcome Smile I'm joining you in taking things seriously especially for the next two months!

OP posts:
irishe · 27/09/2015 22:45

Welcome mrsdlh. I find this a very supportive thread.
Some similarities to you, in that I lost 2 stone between jan and may, then decided to have the summer off, what stupidity! Put some back on of course, then started back seriously on 31st aug.

emz you are making the right choice about ditching the meal out I think. Big meals out can really derail me. I don't find it easy to snap back into healthy eating mode. You may have better willpower than me of course!

not2 I get what you are saying about the exercise. 6 years ago I was cycling a lot, miles every week. I never lost a single pound from all that cycling because I had to eat so many calories to get me through the long cycles. And I have never been hungrier than after a long cycle. There were other health benefits of course and I really enjoyed it but, assisting weight loss, no, not for me.

MrsDLH · 28/09/2015 09:48

Thanks for the welcome :-) I weighed this morning, 11.8 - I always start the week off heavier because I have every Saturday off. How I did it previously was to keep to within 1200 cals per day for the other 6 days, using some exercise calories if needed then eat what I want on Saturday. That with 3 x gym/home dvd sessions a week plus daily 10,000 steps meant I was losing most weeks even if only a lb. It doesn't work if you start eating mid week family size bags of doritos why is that?
Today won't be great though as off to the cinema in a few hours and dh wants to take Ben & Jerrys! Whoops. Will be careful with the rest of my food and the rest of the week.

Emz449 · 28/09/2015 10:03

I was bloody 11 stone this morning again! Angry I wish this stone bracket would bugger off. Low carb week will hopefully get rid of it. I'm sure it's due to having a heavier day than normal yesterday carb wise and also my body is very comfortable at this weight from past experience. I still want to lose at least another stone though so just have to push past this plateau

OP posts:
Not2bObvious · 28/09/2015 11:05

Aww emz, I'd say you wanted to give the scales a good kick! If it's any consolation my scales was showing a shocking 12.3 something when I hopped on it before going to bootcamp (the something I couldn't make out due to the red mist of rageAngry) I consoled myself with the fact I hadn't had a morning...ahem...movement and o had salty food yesterday. No f'ing way I was up nearly 3 pound.
Welcome MrsD, I like your plan - I was in theory doing the same starting last week but lost my way a little lot over the weekend. But, as I bored you all with over the weekend, I used to be much worse. I have a target for Friday of 11.13
Just watched a program about gastric bypass and someone said they're treating their body like a temple not a dustbin, that's my motto for the week Grin

lermontova · 28/09/2015 11:25

Morning all! Can I come and join you please? 141.5 this morning, which is exactly 10 pounds more than I weighed at the end of April. :(

Struggling a bit to stick to 1200kcal a day because it was a very free hand with the beer, cake, chocolate and crisps, and takeaways, and wine, and no exercise at all, that led to the gain. Also the ice-cream but it's not my fault that Ben and Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs are always on special offer somewhere...

I need to lose 20 pounds really but my initial goal is to be back down to the 130s. It came on at a rate of 2 pounds a month so will probably take a while to get off again.

psychotropic · 28/09/2015 11:38

152lbs on my friend's scales (which I can borrow) and 65.7kg at the gym, I should probably take the higher reading? :( but what are people doing about exercise calories? I notice it doesn't give you calories for weights but it does for cardio!

psychotropic · 28/09/2015 11:42

I think it based my 1800 allowance already including my normal exercise so should I log it and ignore the extra calories until I find out how many I need?

Not2bObvious · 28/09/2015 14:31

If you can eat within the allocated Cals not using any exercise (cause they are always over estimated) you can't go wrong. But letting yourself use them from time to time is no harm, twice a week maybe? Let's see how I go with that haha!

MrsDLH · 28/09/2015 16:00

I do weights and a weekly body pump class at the gym and Davina dvds but only count the steps (linked with my fitbit) - don't eat those cals either if I can help it! I think it allows a buffer for any stealth calories consumed or a boost to losing something probably marbles
Emz I'm sure you will lose those pesky lbs and find yourself firmly back in the 10s soon. I can't wait to see 10 something! I see you're off to Peru soon? I went with my dp, now dh, in 2008. A pre children holiday. It was fantastic, did Macchu Pichu, the nasca lines, Cusco etc, didn't trek though as I'm too wimpy and scared of heights

MrsDLH · 28/09/2015 16:02

Not2b I seem to be adopting the my body is a dustbin method today...hmmm

IMustEatMoreVeg · 28/09/2015 18:11

Hi psychotropic. I do usually eat my exercise calories because it gives me incentive to do some exercise!

psychotropic · 28/09/2015 18:29

Thanks everyone, will see how it goes! It will take me a while to get used to this! Managed a short run (a little over two miles) which comes up as 197 calories. I've connected my pedometer to MFP which has counted 14000 steps so far today but MFP says 'calorie adjustment 0' so maybe it is already included under the activity level I chose when I set it up? Which I think was 'moderate' because I'm on my feet alot. Food wise I've had a terrible day and unusually for me skipped breakfast and had a tiny slice of Madeira cake (I felt ridiculous weighing it) for lunch and have just been to McDonald's Blush (grilled chicken salad wrap and grilled chicken salad bowl, under 500 calories!) so far the whole day is about 850 but I'll be hungry when I get home later. It suits me to eat little and often usually but I've been busy and I need to plan for meals and snacks in advance I think.

irishe · 28/09/2015 18:35

Welcome lerm join the hungry masses!

emz I cannot believe your scales, they are having a laugh at your expense. The 10's will return, I have no doubt.
not2 no way, I wouldn't believe that 3lb gain either. My red mist would have lasted until the scales had fallen back into line. I hope that the "movement" of time has eased the situation for you!

My DH always said his body was a temple, followed up by, shame it was the tacky gift shop on the way out!

Well when I weighed in this morning, I could not believe my eyes, another lb disappeared overnight, putting me at a 5.5lbs loss for last week. I know I have been unwell but I have not been starving myself, the rhythm of my eating changed. I wasn't hungry during the day but ate a larger meal at night. The exact opposite of the thinking, "no carbs after 5pm!"

Anyway, whatever the reason I am delighted and actually feel slimmer. That puts me on 13.5lbs for sept and 2 stone 6.5lbs for the year. I am so happy, I need to lose weight desperately for health reasons, so this is great.

I am keeping my goals modest 3 stone by end of year, was always my target. If/when I reach it, will reassess then.

Keep the faith guys.
