Hello Smile
I've recently lost over 30lbs but I still need to lose another 30ish. Anyone want to join in for some support/motivation? I'm thinking weekly Monday morning weigh ins starting tomorrow (Not compulsory).
I'm going to do healthy food at about 1000-1200 calls a day. I may also add in some fast days too.
All diet types and weights welcome Smile

Well done Maki. That's excellent.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 21/07/2015 20:35

Thank you Achieve.

Very well done Maki

Applesnotcakes · 21/07/2015 20:48

Yes well done, encouraging to see Weightlosses and Walking.

cynara you asked how I lost weight. It was slow, about a year and a half for just under 3 stone and involved a quite a few weeks along the way of going up not down but generally I stayed the same or lost a little. I did it - controversially ???? by eating less and moving more

Specifically having a couple of days a week at around 1000 cals, 3 at 1300 ish and a couple probably at 2000. I used 5 2 principles of trying to create a weekly calorie deficit. At my weight and height I need 1650 calories a day to stay the same so I tried overall to eat less than 7 x 1650. And didn't worry if a particular day went over as long as in the week overall I was less. I have to do it like that as I eat out a lot, sometimes when I can't control what the food is, and I'm always going to drink wine when I'm out. So if a night like that is going to be 2000 or even 2500 I need a few days at 1000 to make up for it

I like a drink but on successful weeks kept it to a one night of proper drinking and a couple of nights of just a gin and slimline tonic. And I walked a lot. A lot.

And tried the Shred DVD. But went in phases with that. Mostly I just walked

And I've stopped that. Changed locations at work and haven't got back into the habit. And I need to.

Sorry for long post!

Cynara · 21/07/2015 21:11

Thanks Apples. I was afraid you'd say that! (Eat less, move more)!Grin.

That's definitely what I need to be doing. I'm starting to wonder if I'm using breastfeeding as an excuse, I know it does make me hungrier than I normally would be, but I lost most of my pregnancy weight within two months of the birth, and have since put it all back on plus extra. That's just laziness and greed, I'm afraid, although I do blame the breastfeeding when I discuss it in RL.

I'm going to try to loosely follow a SW plan, I think, so lots of pasta and potatoes so I have the energy for the night feeds and general running about after the baby, but very low fat, and I'll try to knock the wine on the head (probably my biggest challenge, I look forward to a couple of glasses at night, it marks the only bit of the day I have to myself.)

achieve15 · 21/07/2015 21:16

well done Maki. That's cheered me up and spurred me on Smile

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 21/07/2015 22:06

Apples, how much walking are you doing?

I'm hungrySad
I did wonder if a walk was a bad idea on a fast day. Hmm. Might skip it next fast day.

achieve15 · 21/07/2015 23:59

Love the washing peg idea!

Washing peg is a great idea. I think some physical demonstration of the task ahead - and of progress is good. That's why i like weight watchers and slimming world both of which I've done in my time primarily for the fact someone writes my weight down in a bookSmile

Re the walking when I'm on track and losing weight I walk provably about an hour every weekday in 2 or 3 chunks with longer walks at the weekend, probably a couple of hours each day. I feel it's not so much the actual walking that helps, although I'm sure it does a bit, but the real benefit is it keeps me mentally focused. I like being outside and that helps my mood but just doing some kind of exercise helps me keep thinking about losing weight and I have to be obsessed or I go off track

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 22/07/2015 10:21

Interesting re the walking Apples, thanks.

Am doing my first Fast day today - so far so good. Not broken fast yet, and feel fine.

Applesnotcakes · 22/07/2015 11:08

Maki is courgetti really nice? - honestly?

its one of those things i know i should try - along with cauliflower rice and pizzas but I'm sceptical

you're doing well though so maybe I need to just follow your example!

Achieve I really like the idea of 5 2, makes sense in so many ways, but i really struggle with the fast days at 500 - I just cant discipline myself enough and they end up around 900/1000. I suppose its just willpower, but I'm so rubbish

Harpy - we're weight twins pretty much. So the race is on. Pretty soon we'll have room for visitors in our corner

Threesoundslikealot · 22/07/2015 11:12

We eat courgette pasta frequently (although we have more 'tagliatelle' as we just make it with a peeler! It's delicious - but basically just a carrier for pasta sauce, like pasta.

To whoever asked about loose skin, I don't have any but my weight loss didn't change much of my shape although I also did lots of toning as I went along. I still had awful bingo wings.

Pengweng · 22/07/2015 12:02

I'm in. I've started AGAIN this week and am determined that I will be able to fit into my old jeans by Christmas so I need to lose 30lbs (plus maybe a bit more but lets start at 30 for now lol)

Cynara · 22/07/2015 12:34

I'm going to try the courgette tagliatelle! Also like the washing peg idea, haven't got any physical space for it at the moment but I might try a virtual washing line on my phone.

Today I've been on the exercise bike for the first time since DP bought it about 18 months ago (he uses it most days). 30 minutes, 350 calories. Am feeling absolutely thrilled, it's not sp much the calorie loss as the fact that I've actually done it instead of sitting on the sofa thinking about it but nothing actually happening, iykwim?

Definitely have this thread to thank for that, being on here is keeping me focused, so thankyou everyone.

achieve15 · 22/07/2015 12:36

I have to be honest, I don't get the spiraliser thing. You could just have veg and sauce? I know lots of people love them though.

I do use the no-cal spaghetti though, but that does actually seem like you are eating spaghetti.

Cynara · 22/07/2015 12:37

Sorry - meant to say hi to pengweng! Christmas is a good target isn't it, it's just the right distance away to be a realistic target.

achieve15 · 22/07/2015 13:19

was hungry after my sandwich, ate 2 x lindt round choc things someone brought in.

I do know work snacking is my downfall but still cross for doing that.

also bored. And really was hungry!

okay, back in saddle for day, chicken and no cal spaghetti for dinner anyway.

Cynara · 22/07/2015 13:39

What's no cal spaghetti and where do you get it, achieve? I've never seen that. What does it taste like?

The snacking is easily done. Do you take healthy snacks with you to work? Last time
I lost weight it was because I had a little box of mixed nuts with me at all times, and I ate them throughout the day. Didn't like them at all at first but I got used to them and they took the edge off the between-meals hunger, sp it was much easier not to snack on chocolate.

achieve15 · 22/07/2015 13:48

Cyanara, I have healthy snacks in my desk and I took the chocolate! It's not too awful, as I say, I know it's my downfall and it helps the day go faster so I have factored it in. I would much rather go without at home because I'm not bored and looking for distraction at home.

no cal spag - many brands. I buy the Slim Spaghetti when it's on offer at Holland and Barrett. I can't recall another brand I tried but didn't like it. This one - you need to soak it twice, really thoroughly, and I microwave it till it is really hot (with the sauce on). It is still a bit rubbery but it does the job as far as I'm concerned. I think one portion has about 7 cals. I never have it as a whole meal - always with chicken or fish. Psychologically it puts carbs into what would be a carb free meal otherwise.

Pengweng · 22/07/2015 15:49

I have started having a boiled sweet when i want something sugary as by the time i've eaten it (no chewing allowed!) the rage has worn off and it's only 30cals rather than 200 for the chocolate rammed in my face.

I do like courgette noodles, i tend to put them in soups (coconut chicken soup etc) rather than eat them as a pasta. But i'm not a massive pasta fan anyway.

I am on MFP so try and track cals there and am sticking too 1300 a day and 1500 at weekends.

I have started doing Zumba too and am off tonight even though i can't be arsed. I always feel better once i'm there.

Can not work out at home while the twins tag team me and try and participate. They are 3 (soon) and no longer nap and instead run around in circles trying to trip me up or piss on the floor while i'm mid star jump.
TBH I am actually looking forward to them starting nursery in September so i have time for me.

Cynara · 22/07/2015 16:37

Thanks for the link achieve. I know what you mean about preferring to snack at work because you don't need the distraction at home. I'm exactly the opposite, I can get through a shift at work without thinking about food at all, just eating what I've taken with me in my break, so as long as I've been organised enough to take healthy food I'm fine. The minute I get through the door at home though, I'm through the kitchen like a plague of locusts.
