Morning la grenouille de la lune - good luck to everyone.

Have to confess that I'd forgotten and I had a home-made bread roll with my bacon this morning... oops. But that will be my last slip... honest.

Crotchety · 16/10/2006 12:25

Hello all. I'm with you after all the prevaricating. Have lost about 6 pounds since joining the old thread so onwards and downwards!
Sausage question : tip top meaty sausages from local farm butcher, no rubbish in them - how carby do you think? Had one for breakfast...

joelallie · 16/10/2006 12:41

Hmmm... you need to ask the meat percentage in them. Anything over 80% should be OKish but no guarantees - the non-meat bit might be veg such as leeks but might just as likely be rusk. I buy the Sainsbury Taste the difference chipolatas - very low in carbs. Any very nice too.

MoonFrog · 16/10/2006 12:47

Crotchety, not much I wouldn't have thought unless they use lots of breadcrumby type filler (unlikely I would have thought), but tbh I avoid sausages in any form on induction.
Well done on the 6lbs loss.

Joelallie tut tut .

Thought it might be useful to have the links on this new thread rather than on the old one;
Atkins site induction info
Joelallie's link to carb counter amongst loads of other good stuff incl recipes

Think said sausages will be high meat content. Think I'll just risk it - we are pretty sausage reliant in this household! And hooray the frozen blueberries are back in Tescos (for after induction obviously...)

Just off to force another bloody glass of water down!

ghoulgirl · 16/10/2006 14:51

hi everyone ,good luck on the induction.
I need to lose 3 stone by friday as we're off to Dubai to see my horrid size 8 friend

Can I ask about net carbs,do you count them or total carbs. The reason I ask is that oatcakes have low net carbs and would be ideal for snack .

Crotchety · 16/10/2006 15:08

It's the net carbs isn't it Joelallie??

emotionalwreck · 16/10/2006 15:26

I agree - think you count net carbs.

Day off to a splendid start - weighed myself, back up to 15 bloody stone. Ah well -its my own fault.

What's everyone having for evening meal? Need some inspiration for meals as I'm fed up with the same old same old.

Ghoulgirl - that made me laugh!

Crotchety · 16/10/2006 16:20

Yes - even if I lost 3 stone I still wouldn't be size 8! Steak and salad for me tonight. Plus spuds for himself. Or poss runner beans from garden instead of salad - bit unclear about their carb potential actually...

I'm not sure what you mean by net carbs. On UK packaging there will be an entry for carbs, broken down in to sugars and starches - both count so use the total carb count. On low-sugar or sugar free you only count the starches and sugars not the polyols.

I know that in USA they don't subtract the fibre from the carb count - so to find the net carbs you take the fibre away from the carbs. But in this country it will already have been taken off.

Sorry if that was complicated

joelallie · 16/10/2006 17:35

ghoulgirl - what made up the difference between the total carbs and the net carbs? I'm intrigued now. If total carbs were 5 for eg, and the net carbs were 3...what was the remainder? I know that oatcakes are great on low-GI but not usually recommended for low-carb.

dislexicicecream · 16/10/2006 18:00

honey is ment to be relly good for sore throte, but i think its the dark one from holland and barrot, might be caled money honey, sounds stupid though so think i made the name up hehe, if u ask them for the live honey they will point u in the right way.

dislexicicecream · 16/10/2006 18:01

oops thats strange, that post was for a diffrent thrad lol @ my self ..... sorry .......

MoonFrog · 16/10/2006 21:05

Evening all.

Emotional, commiserations. But hopefully induction will get you off to a flying start. What did you end up having for supper ?

Ghoulgirl, are you doing induction? If so then grains aren't allowed at all. If not, then how many grams a day of carbohydrates are you allowing yourself?
Sorry, just re-read that and I sound all headmistressy How long are you away in Dubai for?

Strawb, tsk tsk

Right, here's what I've had today;
Breakfast - Omelette (2 eggs,sp. onion, red pepper, slice of ham, 1oz cheese)
Lunch - Cold chicken, 2 slices bacon
Supper - Lamb chops, cauliflower and leeks with 1oz cheese grated over top.
2 cups of tea with splenda and soya milk
3 litres of water.
All comes to 13.9g of carb, which means I can have some cheese and celery tonight as a snack

Oh, almost forgot, the scales said 12st 11.5lbs (how do you write half on the computer? 1/2 doesn't look right, is there some way of making it smaller than the other numbers ??)

Had home made burgers (again) although liked the idea of having a box of roses.

Think one of my big problems is I don't have breakfast unless its the weekend. Also must drink more! Doing really well with booze tonight. Had a chat with the gin bottle and she said she won't be offended if I leave her to own devices for a while. She also told me I'm barking

Don't think you can make your font smaller on here Moonfrog.

ghoulgirl · 16/10/2006 21:49

hi,let me try and explain myself here.
By net carbs ,I remember from the atkins something about only counting the carbs that are made up of sugar.I'm probably talking out of my monumental arse here so please feel free to put me straight.
So my delicious oatcakes are;
7.3gm carbohydrate
o.2gm of which sugars

I was wrongly assuming that I only count the sugar carbs ,but yes joeallie you're right you must take into account the fibre
1.0gm fibre
So probably shouldn't have them.

Moonfrog,
I am on the clark plan which is 40 grams of carbs a day ,lost a stone so far.It allows one piece of toast a day.

Going to Dubai for a week ,can't wait!

will change back to ggirl I think

joelallie · 17/10/2006 08:13

Not quite gg. The fibre is deducted from the total carbs but in the UK that is already done - so that you use total carbs whether they are sugar or starch. The only time I've ever seen 'net carbs' mentioned is on Atkins or other low-carb products. That is because of the total carb count a significant amount will be artificial sweeteners - which will count as 0 carbs (although the jury is still out on that one)

However you look at it oatcakes are not really a good idea - but probably OK for later on.

Tortington · 17/10/2006 08:50

hiya day 3 for me - ketosis tomorrow - whoo hoo!

tuna salad for lunch - just had a mouthful for breakfast - i cant do breakfast but do realise about the metabolism having to start etc.

weighed myself - my scales are blummin american dont do stone - but do hundreds of pounds. my dh works it out for me

ok so promise you wont tell? i am so huge. bare in mind i am 5 foot fuck all.

yesterday i weighed 170lb ( whatever the fuck that is) today i weigh 168lbs 2 lbs already - excellent!

i shall be a 14/16 for the ball - i shall dammit!

brimfull · 17/10/2006 08:53

I do find it helps to weigh myself every day, keeps me motivated.
Still having problems with the back end though, will need a colonic soon!

joelallie · 17/10/2006 11:00

2lbs in 2 days is brilliant! Once ketosis starts you'll feel great. But you know that....

ggirl - I used to weigh every day but I found that I became obsessed. It was pointless anyway after a while as I'd reached a plateau and didn't shift. I had reached a BMI of about 21 so if I wanted to lose more I'd have had to shift up a gear and really starve myself. Like that's going to happen But if you are losing regularly it's very useful.

joelallie · 17/10/2006 11:02

sorry ggirl - have you tried taking anything. Atkins recommends physalis husk whatever the that is!! Was it moondog that suggested fibrogel? Are you drinking enough? Eating loads of green veg. I do find that my bowels become a little shyer on lc - it's still regular but less frequent IFSWIM.

MerlinsBeard · 17/10/2006 11:03

just had to tell u i read the title and thought it said CATHOLICS anon!!

Crotchety · 17/10/2006 11:16
