Hi, sorry to gatecrash this thread -I am thinking of doing this, but wondered what do you all snack on? I would find it very difficult not to snack at all.

also, where do you get the little sticks from? I remember doing Atkins years ago, and the chemists refused to sell them unless you were diabetic.

Thanks.

brimfull · 18/10/2006 23:31

pollybloodyanna, you can get the ketostix from ebay. There are also ther websites you can get them from,I also was refused them years ago when I was on the atkins.

I snack on cold meat, carrots, you could also have nuts, but as my ds is allergic, I'm unsure which ones are the lowest in carbs.
I'm on the clark plan which allows more carbs than the atkins.Joeallie is the resident expert,I'm sure she'll give you some great advice.

Tortington · 19/10/2006 09:33

hello old chumettes.

today i weighed in at 164lbs ( whatever the fuck that is.

4 lbs lost since yesterday and a huge 6lbs in total.

tuna for lunch with mayo and tomato. dunno whats for tea - think dh will have to go shopping

anyone else weighed themselves yet ?

MoonFrog · 19/10/2006 10:22

Custy, are you lopping off body parts to get such a dramatic loss each day ??

I was a very bad frog last night and drank a bottle of wine all to myself (does that make you feel any better joelallie ?)

btw I buy my Ketostix from Morrisons or Boots, and I've never had any problem.

pollyanna - don't touch those carrot sticks if you are on Atkins!!!!! Unclean!! ggirl is doing a different plan. Raw carrot is low gi but high carb.

Thanks for the encouragment everyone - I'm back on the wagon but motivation isn't really there ....why does that happen? Problem is that I'm back comfortably in my jeans and that was a sort of target - of course I'd love to go lower but I always seem to sabotage when that threatens to happen.

moonfrog - sorry - I found the offending post . Could you be lunarfrog? It was our 14th anniversary. Lovely meal and a good evening all in all. We don't get the chance to go out together without kids so I made the most of it

FrogDeLaLune · 19/10/2006 12:10

Joelallie , glad you're back on board.

I'm all a dither about my name. Don't know whether to go with some variant on frog or just do a complete change and be done with it. I'm veering towards the latter at the moment. Watch this space

I'm sticking to the plan (apart from the rogue bottle of wine last night , and boy did I suffer this moring for it) but really need to do some exercise.
At the start of the year I was doing 2-3 miles of hill walking every day, but I'm looking out of the window at the moment and it's cold and wet and I can't get motivated enough to go out.

Righto, I'm off to make a feta salad for lunch

joelallie · 19/10/2006 12:19

Ha ha! Alcohol consumption brings it's own punishment on induction.....I like frogdelalune myself.

Pollybloodyanna · 19/10/2006 12:34

what plan are you doing ggirl?

I did atkins yesterday and was 2.5lb lighter today. I'm not that keen on it to be honest -too much meat and fat for me, but it seems to do the trick! (ggirl, is your diet more healthy?).

Pollyanna,I'm on "The new high protein diet." by Dr Charles Clark.
I got yhe book from amazon.
It is less restrictive than the atkins in that it allows 40-60gms of carbs a day.
I find it easier because I can have lots of veg and even one piece of bread /day.
There is no induction.
I guess the weight loss would be slower but I've still lost a stone in a month so I'm happy with it.
So basically I've stopped all bread/pasta/rice/potatoes and anything sweet llike cake and biscuits obviously.

Hi PollyBAnna - the snacks issue is always a bit thorny at the start of Atkins, but after a bit you don't get the blood sugar lows that require immediate scoffing of a danish pastry. I go for low carb bars from Tescos (not more than one a day), although other people don't touch 'em with barge poles, also celery and cream cheese, olives, any salad lying about.

I also think that the Atkins diet is perfectly healthy and that it's a misconception that you are always eating fat and big plates of cholesterol. It's only the two-week induction that really cuts down on the veg. I pretty much do it on tuna salads, chicken salads, meat and veg but no spuds etc and can't see how that can be unhealthy - all you are missing is the sugary stuff and the carby stuff like bread, rice and potatoes.

Trouble is our traditional way of eating just assumes you have to have bread, rice, pasta and potatoes and it's hard to get out of that mindset. Also hard to find anything to buy for lunch in a sandwich shop. Oh dear - end of sermon.

FrogDeLaLune · 19/10/2006 19:45

Well said Crotchety.
Atkins is very misunderstood when it's basically very similar in theory to low GI/GL. They're both about the effects of excessive insulin production.

Today I ate
Breakfast - Scrambled eggs and cold ham
Lunch - Salad with lettuce, watercress, red pepper, spring onions, cucumber, feta cheese and home made vinaigrette.
Supper - Lamb chops with cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower.
This evening I'm going to have some cheese and celery.
All washed down with a total of 4l of water.
Now what's unhealthy about that ?

Anyone seen emotional recently ?
x

emotionalwreck · 19/10/2006 20:05

Don't fret my froggy friend - I am never far away!

I haven't been talking to the gin bottle but I did have a one night stand with a bottle of red wine that my other half snuck into the house. Only two glasses though. And I've done the unthinkable and weighed myself before Monday - lost 4lb!

And Joelallie, come on, anyone would think you'd jumped in a chocolate fountain. It was a bit of caffeine and we all seem to have similar problems resisting the old vino!

I think overall, we're all doing pretty good!

chicken with asparagus, and mustard sauce tonight (creme fraiche and dijon mmmmmmmmmm)!!!!!!!

Crotchety · 19/10/2006 20:08

Back again. This drinking buckets of water business. Are we including tea and coffee in the total or only counting the plain water? I feel a bit awash.

Tortington · 19/10/2006 20:17

i made tuna salad for dinner. didn't get to eat it - ended up on effin trains all day - not the ideal environment to eat fish iyswim.

chicken salad for tea. although - had such a pants day i longed longed longed to buy a belgian bun mmmmmmmmmmm

but likened it to when i gave up cigs 3 months ago and had cravings - will feel better tomorrow when i weigh myself.

Strawb, Crusty - no you can't have a sandwich, no you can't have a bun. I said NO. Because I said so that's why.

FrogDeLaLune · 19/10/2006 21:00

Custy, did you enjoy your virtual belgian bun, vanilla slice and profiteroles ?

Cups of tea/coffee etc don't count towards your liquid quota.

Tortington · 19/10/2006 21:03

crap - i only drink coffee

Crotchety · 19/10/2006 21:04

Surely the tonic in the gin counts though...
