Strawb, stay well away from the bread and jam or you might just accidentally fall over and land mouth first on it.....a la the lemon drizzle cake

Crotchety · 19/10/2006 21:18

Bloodcurdlingstrawb - give me the bread. Give me the jam. You can have it back after Christmas.

Is everyones AF coming at once or something? Never in all my days have I seen such a festival of carb longings! Jam sandwiches? Whats all that about? If you're going to have a carb longing, make it a steam syrup sponge pudding with hot custard I say - bloody marks and spencers adverts.... they'll be the death of me....

Either that or the gin will (had one tiny one tonight!)

Come on girls I'm the biggest fatty on here and I'm just about keeping it together! No more talk of belgian buns etc or it might be my undoing!

I'm with you emotional - if you're going to screw up make it worthwhile - chocolate torte, a whole box of really good chocolates.... or indeed a shower in a chocolate fountain

It wasn't the caffeine in the capuccino that bothered me - 'twas the shedloads of milk . However I think it's just an excuse. So I'm back on the straight and narrow.

Pollyanna - please don't think of Atkins as unhealthy. That's conventional wisdom talking that can't get past the fact that we don't eat fruit and do eat fat! So what? My diet is fresh meat. fresh fish, eggs, cheese, loads of fresh veg and salad (after induction), virtually no sugar and plenty of water. I eat NO processed foods with all the benefits that brings - reduced salt, sugar, preservatives. How is that unhealthy. And tell me how someone being 3 stone overweight is healthy? Surely anything that enable you to lose that weight quickly without hunger and stress is a bad thing? IME NO OTHER diet does it as well. If you think Atkins is unhealthy please don't do it. It can't work in the long run if you are worrying about it all the time and it is a long term way of eating so as soon as you stop Atkins and go back to a 'healthy' diet you will put the weight back on. There are 3 WW dieters near me at work and they never stop eating - low-fat bars, reduced fat crisps, apples, crispbreads - all leaving them just as hungry as before 10 mins later. I never think of food from the moment I finish my breakfast till lunchtime...and if I'm at home not even then quite often.

emotionalwreck · 20/10/2006 08:36

Now you're talking - chocolate torte! Be still my chomping jaw!

Off to work now having feasted on omlette with 2 rashers of bacon....

Something to make you smile - patient quote of the day yesterday "These pain killers are great but I'm not taking them all the time. I don't want to get too independent on them!"

Pollybloodyanna · 20/10/2006 08:53

joelallie, sorry I used the wrong words. I personally usually eat lots of pulses and veggies but not very much (if any) meat, eggs or dairy. (and alot of bread!!), so for me it is quite strange suddenly to eat alot of meat and eggs. I realise that if I eat tuna or chicken and salad that is healthy. I am hoping to break my dependence on carbs. I didn't want to offend anyone - I have been to slimming world in the past, and I agree, this has to be better than chewing on those bars all day that they give (or sell) you

Also, when my sister does atkins she just eats alot of fried breakfasts all day

Crotchety · 20/10/2006 09:31

Nobody's offended Pollyanna! You just have to completely rethink how you eat. And it's great to lose the tyranny of hunger pangs and blood sugar highs and lows.

Ploughing through the Atkins book is difficult as it's soooo geared to US culture - there are about 6 useful pages in there once you've cut through all the motivational dross and stuff about people's blood test results, and ignored the awful recipes that attempt to replicate the american diet with sugar substitutes.

And as Joelallie said on a previous thread, some people do seem to use atkins as an excuse never to eat any veg but that's not the idea. Oh no!

FrogDeLaLune · 20/10/2006 09:41

Morning

I went against better judgement and weighed myself this morning even though official weigh day is not until Monday. I was secretly hoping to have lost quite a lot as I'm def not as bloated and in January when I did induction I lost 10lbs in the first week...................and I've lost a grand total of one bloody pound, one measly pound and I've been sooooo good (apart from the wine on Wed night ).
I'm feeling very disheartened and in need of encouragement.

Crotchety · 20/10/2006 10:39

Commiserations Froggy One but don't croak yet. Perhaps it's because you haven't just lost a pile of water as usually happens at the very beginning of a diet? And perhaps you are losing inches, but not pounds - are any clothes feeling looser? While it's nice to see the scales going down it's not the whole story.

joelallie · 20/10/2006 11:45

froggy - don't worry. I bet you'll be surprised on Monday when a few more pounds have come off - wine won't have helped sadly but stick with it. Not wishing be too personal but is it near TOM?

pollyanna - I'm not offended . Sorry. It's a sort of automatic defensive reaction when people call low-carb unhealthy.. I've been doing it for over 2 years and I've heard so many people telling me how bad it is. I too love pulses and rice etc - used to be more or less a vegetarian before I started lc but once I'd reached my mid-30's I was slowly putting on more and more weight eating as I was. I only started Atkins 'cos DH needed to lose weight too and was never going to try a lettuce leaf and low-fat cottage cheese diet . I found out how well it worked and was hooked. Hope it works as well for you too.

Tortington · 20/10/2006 11:57

dont worry froggy xxxxxxxxxxx next week you will lose loads.

i stayed the same today. i think its becuase i didn't eat enough yesterday - can't get the fires burning with no coal iyswim.

Froggy, froggy, frog frog - don't take it to heart. Joeallie is probably right as always and your monthly friend will be upon you shortly! You know how alcohol affects my weight loss so don't fret too much.

What's your fave low carb meal - have it tonight! And if you have the time, give your self a bit of attention i.e. nice scented bath with candles, or give yourself a pedicure. Sometimes I talk complete and utter bollocks though - you may have noticed!

emotionalwreck · 20/10/2006 17:12

bloodcurdlingstrawb - my friend had some great rules for "Making the Most of Buffets - a Fatties Guide". Bear in mind she was 20 stone plus but I suppose if you do the opposite, you may survive with no weight gain...........

  1. Never attend the buffet table within the first 10 minutes - they could still be bringing more hot stuff out, and you'll miss out
  1. Get two plates - one for you and one for your non-existent friend. Or pretend to help a child with their plate, then nick it
  1. put lighter items of food on your plate first - the heavier ones on top will ensure you can get the maximum amount on your plate

enjoy!
