Need to lose weight before ttc no2!

I thought I'd start a thread as it's likely there are others in the same position.

Gave one DD who is 2.3. Would like to have another child at some point in the non too distant future but firstly I really need to lose weight, as

  1. I'm far too heavy at the moment and my knees and feet have started to ache with the strain etc. I really don't think I'd cope physically being pregnant at this size
  2. I have PCOS and the erratic periods that go with it. Weight loss supposedly helps with this (no personal experience to date) My plan at the moment is to be sensible - more home cooked meals with plenty of fruit and veg, and less processed crap! I really don't eat well, especially lately (I work evening shifts, and we moved house 3 weeks ago - I h Ave been grabbing what i can, when I can!)

I shall technically be starting on Monday, as I will be spending some of this weekend meal planning. But as of first thing in the morning I shall be starting on 3 meals a day instead of constant grazing!

PS welcome marking

MarkingMyPlace9 · 08/02/2015 15:20

Thank You Tango Smile
Just out of curiosity, how long did it take every first time/last time to conceive? I understand everytime is different, but I came off the Pill and 12 Weeks later found out I was 6 Weeks gone! So I am assuming (I know I shouldn't!) That I'll be preggers with no 2 come beginning of March. But I'm kinda hoping it takes longer in a way, so I have more chance of loosing more weight first, awful isn't it!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 08/02/2015 16:13

On the time it took marking, we decided we would try as soon as we got married, (had implant removed 6 months before that and was using condoms)
We got married October 2012, ds was born July 2013.
So will see what happens this time, I was impatient this month and am currently on a tww, so symptom spotting like a mental person.
Silly really as I have loads of weight to loose.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 08/02/2015 17:34

What's the deal with your knee again takestwo?
My rheumatism gets horrific week before and week of AF, I'm actually intrigued what is going to happen of I get pregnant again as I never had anything wrong with me before 5 months.
Going to be really hard if it goes the same way as it did before, and with a toddler in tow....
Skinny lasagne in the oven, looks good! Ds is having spaghetti with the meat sauce instead.
Arrived at the co-op at discount time and stupidly bought empire biscuits and carrot cake, also other great buys.
The biscuits have been eaten all ready by dh, he's eyeing up the carrot cake, I should probably give him it.Wink

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 08/02/2015 22:47

Hello markingmyplace - welcome!! Smile
Well done on the weight you have lost so far.
It took us 5.5months to conceive DD. Stopped taking pill in July and fell pregnant early jan. However I have PCOS and long (60ish day) cycles, so I actually only had 2 periods in that time. So 6 months was fairly quick for me.

Takestwo - hopefully you can get back on it this weekend when AF has gone/nearly gone. Bloody hormones have a lot to answer for. Have you managed to do anything nice this weekend? Hope you've been resting that knee.

Yellow - hope you and DH have kissed and made up now. DH and I don't really argue. we bicker (well, I have a go at him and he doesn't say much), and that is mostly during the week! I think its the strain of having loads to do and not seeing much of each other.
Fingers crossed your rheumatism might improve during pregnancy - you never know, pregnancy hormones have a strange effect on our bodies. It improved my asthma!
How was the skinny lasagne?

I have had an awful weekend foodwise!! Starving on way home from work on friday so stopped for mcdonalds. Had lunch out (KFC) with my mum and nan yesterday (though I did share mine with DD), chinese for dinner last night (MIL over and she is a creature of habit - always wants a chinese!!) and dinner out today with the MIL! Beef and ale pie with mash, washed down with a large glass of rose! Crumbs!! So many high calorie meals in a few days - I fully expect to have put on 4lbs when I weigh in tomorrow morning!

I am going to make my way up to bed now, and will be doing some calculations in bed. I have just booked disneyland for this september!!! Yay!! So I have that as a goal now - I need to be slimmer, and more importantly fitter, so that I can physically walk round the parks for 4 days without wanting to chop my feet off!! lol

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 08/02/2015 22:55

Skinny lasagne was great! Cold.
I did have half a carrot cake cupcake after that I shared with ds. Blush
We have made up...for just now.
we are trying to work on stuff just now as dh takes things the wrong way all the time, which he admits and Is pretty lazy when at home as he is knackered from work. So I get annoyed at him, but I'm letting stuff go and he's trying harder. Generally it's working.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 09/02/2015 00:57

Daily life can really stuff up relationships sometimes. Lack of money/time causes such a strain! We could definitely do with some more hours in the day here!

MarkingMyPlace9 · 09/02/2015 08:18

Morning all!

Thank you Cold Feet! I have heard of PCOS, don't really know much about it though, but it doesn't sound fun and can't help with the whole Hormones we all deal with on what feels like a daily basis sometimes! Try not to beat yourself up about the Food this Weekend - It does all sound Yummy!! Today is a new Day/Week - That's the way to look at it! Yay for Disneyland, I am very Jel!!! But it's a very good Goal to Work towards!

How funny Yellow - We got Married June 2012, came off Pill Sept 2012 and had my DS July 2013!!

Aw bless, I was sick from a Week before I found out till the Day my Waters Broke with DS! So I'm trying not to think about Symptoms! I also did a Test when I was 4 Weeks Preggers which came back neg! So when I started feeling Sick a Week later, I put it down to a bug lol.

Sorry to hear about your Pains Tango and Yellow. That must be such hard work dealing with that and DC!! I hope it's all feeling better today?

I'm starting fresh today, actually have a horrible cold, lovingly given to me by DS! So my appetite has pretty much gone, just lots of Cups of Tea! I suppose that is a good thing. Won't weigh myself till Weds Morning though, as I'll just get depressed if I do it today!

TakesTwoToTango · 09/02/2015 09:25

Thanks all knee getting better with drugs (running injury). Reckon by the end of the week it might be ok touch wood!

Pgs - 1st one month (mc), 2nd three months later, 3rd four months after cycle returned after dc1. Hoping it doesn't take two long this time. Now on cycle 2.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 09/02/2015 10:13

Glad knee feeling better takes two, and you can get back on track food wise
Oh cold Disney land sounds great my friend just put photos up when she was there last month, even in the cold looked good.
We priced it recently and found it was far more expensive that I thought it would be, so will be a thing to do in the future, but not now. Enjoy!
Ahh Marking, you also had the joy of being heavily pregnant when it was absolutely boiling that year. Lol and I'm in Scotland so would have been worse elsewhere.

On the food front today me n ds have just had some bacon with one slice of toast, I'm going to up my water or diluting juice In take.
Think I will head out to asda to get some new stuff as the orange and mango one I have in is horrible.
Just boiled some eggs for a ham n egg salad for lunch and think I will have thai green curry for tea.
Need to do more research into recipes...will update if I find good ones.

MarkingMyPlace9 · 09/02/2015 10:32

Sorry to hear about your mc Tango Flowers

Yes Yellow - Think I gave Birth on the Hottest Day or something, even with the AC on in the Hospital was blooming uncomfortable - Amongst everything else going on lol Grin

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 09/02/2015 14:40

We got really good deals for Disneyland. 4 adults and my DD going (she is free). We're staying in a self-catering 2 bed cabin on the outskirts of Disney Village, and driving there via EuroTunnel. Worked out just under £300 each, and that includes a character meal one night. We did get 2 nights and days free though as part of their 40 yes days (offer ends tonight!). We're going on a monday in sep and come back on the friday.

I need to research into food a bit more as well yellow - I need some filling recipes so that I am actually satisfied for longer than 30mins!! Lately I fill like I can eat and eat and eat!!! Will try to up my protein/include protein at every meal to see if that helps. KFC on saturday certainly satisfied me more than the chinese (which was mainly rice/noodles)

PCOS is horrible!! Would be better if GPs/Drs knew more about it. A lot of people think its just about infertility and facial hair! But as its your hormones it affects so many different things.

OP posts:
yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 09/02/2015 15:09

That's a pretty good deal, better than I found. Hope you have a great time when you go, think ds's head would explode with the toy story characters. He's a tad obsessed.
Protein definitely fills you up for longer, I try to not eat a lot of carbs as that's my down fall. Thou I have eaten 2 packets of crisps today. They were delicious. Blush

TakesTwoToTango · 09/02/2015 19:37

Smile not had an entirely healthy day here either, but better than yesterday, so every little helps I guess!

Thanks marking was v early and some time ago now.

I also had a July 2013 baby. Hot hot hot!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 09/02/2015 22:09

My DD is obsessed with all things Disney (Tangled, Frozen, Minnie and Mickey, Toy Story, Doc McStuffins, Sofia the First.....) in fact I think the only thing she likes that isn't Disney is that bloody pig (Peppa)!! I am keeping my fingers crossed that a 7ft tall Mickey Mouse doesn't freak her out though!!Will try and take her somewhere beforehand that has the big characters walking round.

Will try and have something egg based for breakfast tomorrow. Probably scrambled egg on toast (have not yet perfected poached eggs on our stupid electric hob!!). Not sure about lunch/main meal yet.
So much stuff that I tend to eat is all white carbs etc that doesn't fill me up. I should start making lists "how long did this breakfast of 2 weetabix keep me full for?" not long enough judging by the food bought today!

Going to log my food on MFP (My Fitness Pal) now - eek!!

MarkingMyPlace9 · 10/02/2015 08:06

Good Morning all! How are we today?
Wow, lots of July Babies!
Cold Feet - She will Love Disney, you'll all have such an amazing time! Does any Child not like Peppa Pig!? It certainly stops my little Boy in His tracks when it comes on!! And Ben and Holly does too, but I don't mind that one so much Grin
Have you thought about switching to Brown stuff Cold Feet? We only have Brown Pasta, Bread and Rice in this House, now that I have managed to convert DH! It certainly does fill you up for longer.
I had a good Day yesterday, managed to do some Squats and Sit Ups and had a favourite of mine for Dinner, Tex Mex Soup (But I don't blend it so it's more like a stew) it's a Recipe from my F2 Diet Book, which when I follow properly, I can loose upto a Stone in 4 Weeks!! If anyone would like the Recipe just let me know. I use all Frozen Veg, so I just chuck it all in the Slow Cooker for a couple of Hours (Meat Free, I'm not Veggie but I still like it) and then it's ready come Dinner time!
I weighed myself this Morning and I am 1 lb off loosing 2 Stone overall! Only another 3 Stone to go (1 and 1/2 realistically I think) Anyone got that Magic Wand that was being waved around earlier!? Wink

TakesTwoToTango · 10/02/2015 09:16

cold good luck with mfp! I tried it once but couldn't get on with the faff of working out the calories in everything specifically enough to make it feel worthwhile. It really really works for lots of people though!

TakesTwoToTango · 10/02/2015 09:19

Wow! marking!! What a brilliant loss! Congratulations! Grin

I'd like the soup recipe please. Sounds delicious!

Right, I'm aiming to be back on the wagon today. The scales tell me my lapse has cost me 3lbs, which I'm going to find harder to shift without exercise (I find doing the exercise makes me feel good enough about myself to stay strong on the diet) but I'm going to try not to throw all my efforts away.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 10/02/2015 10:45

That's a great loss marking! Well done you.
Head in the game today food wise, but no exercise as pretty sore today. Shoulders and knee. Hmm
Will be going out for lunch tomorrow, and Thursday as it's my birthday Grin so will choose things carefully.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 10/02/2015 10:57

I tend to have more brown/seeded bread more than white (have not yet converted DH, and it would be too much fibre for DD to just have that). I have not personally tried brown pasta or rice, but pasta is fairly low gi and so is the basmati rice that we have. I mainly need to get rid of the simple carbs in the junk food (biscuits, cakes etc) and breakfast cereals.

MFP is quite easy to work takestwo - the database is so extensive that you can search and find most if not all products. You can then save recipes/meals to your profile as well - I have got DH's chilli con carne saved into mine for example so I don't need to add chopped tomatoes etc individually each time.
I havent religiously used it for a while but I do find it very useful. Especially to compare days I've felt full to days I've felt ravenous - its interesting to see the grams of sugar and protein I've eaten and the effect its had on my appetite. Most of that should be common sense really, but its helpful to have it in black and white sometimes

OP posts:
ColdFeetWarmHeart · 10/02/2015 10:58

well done on the weight loss marking - are you following the F2 plan or just being healthy/eating less??

OP posts:
MarkingMyPlace9 · 10/02/2015 12:02

Thank You everyone! Smile
I have managed to drop a Dress Size, but the Dress Size I have dropped too, the Clothes are still a little bit too tight! So that is giving me the motivation to carry on!
Great, here's a list of the Ingredients -
Onions
Red Peppers (I use Red, Green and Yellow)
Cumin
Oregano
Chilli Powder
Vegetable Stock
Tomato Puree
Chopped Tomatos
Kidney Beans
Sweetcorn
Salt and Black Pepper
Paprika
Crushed Chillis
Like I said, I just throw it all in the Slow Cooker, as much or as less of each Item as I want. I make mine Hot so I have loads of Sour Cream with Chives with it and I have it with Salad or Brown Rice or Pasta. Yum!
Well done all on the exercise! I really need to get to the Gym to tone everything, but as a sahm with no one around during the Day to look after DS it's difficult.
It is difficult when you have Lunches/Dinners due out, I always try and pick healthy in these situations, but then again I'm like go on! Treat yourself lol Grin
Lovely to go out for a Meal on your Birthday Yellow, enjoy Flowers
I'm not doing the F2 Diet atm Cold Feet, I find it very strict and that doesn't work for me atm on Weekends lol. But it has helped me loose around a Stone of this Weight by using some of the Recipes each Week. I would deff recommend it though. And it's purely since that that I have been converted to Brown stuff. But I do enjoy White Pasta every now and again

TakesTwoToTango · 10/02/2015 15:59

Sounds absolutely delicious marking! Have you manged to find low fat sour cream?? failing that, I guess low fat cream fraiche would work too.... Yum!

Sorry you're sore today yellow Sad hopefully a better day tomorrow?

Maybe I'll give mfp another go cold it just seems like such a faff

MarkingMyPlace9 · 10/02/2015 16:51

It is very yummy Tango! I sometimes have it when I'm not Dieting as it's so easy to make. And TBH with you, I just buy whatever Sour Cream is the cheapest, lol. Seriously, the Soup is so good for you, I don't think it matters. But I hadn't thought of Cream Fraiche, will have to try that next time.
Just given my DS his lovely Dinner of Chicken Nuggets, Potato Letters and Broccolli (Not a Daily occurance, but I don't object to Him having it once a Week or so) And He ate all the Broccolli (Good Boy) and pretty much left the rest! It took all of my willpower to not wolf it all down. It's now in the Bin...What a waste of Food. But better in the Bin than sitting on my Hips, Stomach and Double Chin I suppose Grin

TakesTwoToTango · 10/02/2015 19:30

Ha ha! Well done on the will power marking!
