Need to lose weight before ttc no2!

I thought I'd start a thread as it's likely there are others in the same position.

Gave one DD who is 2.3. Would like to have another child at some point in the non too distant future but firstly I really need to lose weight, as

  1. I'm far too heavy at the moment and my knees and feet have started to ache with the strain etc. I really don't think I'd cope physically being pregnant at this size
  2. I have PCOS and the erratic periods that go with it. Weight loss supposedly helps with this (no personal experience to date) My plan at the moment is to be sensible - more home cooked meals with plenty of fruit and veg, and less processed crap! I really don't eat well, especially lately (I work evening shifts, and we moved house 3 weeks ago - I h Ave been grabbing what i can, when I can!)

I shall technically be starting on Monday, as I will be spending some of this weekend meal planning. But as of first thing in the morning I shall be starting on 3 meals a day instead of constant grazing!

strict diets are no good, not in this house anyway. Only stick to them for a day or two lol (if at all!)

It really doesn't take that long to fill out MFP takestwo lol. Probably quicker than writing it all out in a book etc. I have an app on my phone for it.

Was doing ok food/calorie-wise today until I got to work - was cold in the office so had hot chocolate from the vending machine (3 of them - equals 210 calories and a ton of sugar!)

TakesTwoToTango · 11/02/2015 09:34

210 calories isn't a disaster cold tomorrow will be a better day (wear another jumper to work!) Grin

Better day for me yesterday but not perfect - finished up the last of the Christmas cake, but at least it's gone now!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 12/02/2015 21:03

Happy Birthday Yellow!! Hope you have had a lovely day today/yesterday!

Had a good day today - after having a few days where I haven't felt full at all, no matter what I have eaten, today I have felt full/content all day even though I have eaten fairly little. Didn't really get hungry till 8, just as dinner was ready!
Had a nice family day. Chilled out with DD this morning, playing indoors. Popped to shops this afternoon, come home and DH is already in starting on the dinner. DD was bathed by us both for a change, while having a boogie to the frozen soundtrack!! If only every day could be like this - alas, I have to work evenings.

How is everyone?

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 12/02/2015 22:33

Thanks cold! Smile
Had a good day, went shopping with dh and ds, as dh took the day off work. We don't do valentines stuff as my birthday is 2 days before. We had lunch, wasn't the best choice of lunch good eating wise, but it was nice and the amount of walking we did surely evened it out. Lol
Going out for lunch tomorrow with my mum. So 3 days out, will probably not be good. Blush

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 12/02/2015 23:03

Oh well, it's only your birthday once a year. And you've done a lot of walking!

We don't do much for valentines either, though we originally got together around valentines. We just do little token gifts for valentines/aanniversary. have bought dh new boxers and some chocolate covered coffee beans (safe from me - I hate coffee! Yuk!). we do have a babysitter this weekend though, so I picked up lamb shanks today in m&s, yummy!

Happy Birthday for yesterday Yellow Flowers Sounds like your having a lovely couple of Days. Try not to worry too much about being good Food wise. Next Week is a new Week!
Sounds like you had a lovely Day yesterday aswell Cold Feet Smile
I've had a good few Days, and lost a couple more pounds which is good. But due to Valentines Day tomorrow (We don't do anything generally for it, but we do always get a Chinese on the Night) then we have a Night away Sun (Nothing to do with VD, it's a late Christmas Present) which includes Cream Tea, 3 Course Meal and then Breakfast!! Won't be weighing myself till end of next Week at this rate!! Grin
What's everyone else's plans for this Weekend?

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 13/02/2015 18:22

Thanks marking, had a carvery for lunch and choc fudge cake and ice cream,Blush but only ate about a quarter of the fudge cake and I shared my carvery with ds, so he ate the chipolattas and half the Yorkshire pudding as well as pork, turkey and beef. So could have been worse.
I haven't been really hungry for tea for 3 days. As I had massive lunches. So haven't bothered, just fed dh and ds.
But next week will be better. Smile

BirdingWidow · 13/02/2015 23:19

Hi all, I'm back. I slunk off in shame as I was not keeping my eye on the prize at all and was eating my usual rubbish, but two things have happened this week: first, I had a birthday with a nought on the end (the tick-tock one!) and second, I broke the lid of the toilet tonight while sitting on it trying to brush DC's teeth. I am horrified Shock.

It took us almost 2 years to get pregnant last time so I am not sure this is even going to work out, so all the more reason to try to lose the weight. High stress job and v long hours are not helping. I also have a degree of ambivalence about having another: while I want another DC because I loved the whole experience and want a sibling for my DC, i am worried about the logistics of having two, commuting, high pressure job, main earner etc.... So perhaps that holds me back from facing up to my choices now too.

I can see you guys have your ups and downs but you are doing pretty well and are all at least focused on what you are trying to achieve! Onwards and good luck!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 14/02/2015 19:27

Welcome back birding!
I've only managed to lose 5lbs in total in a month which is a bit depressing but now birthday is over, I'm going to try harder.
I've got a few days to go for my tww, so once I've got that over that will spur me on as well, as don't feel pregnant, just pms symptoms. That I'm trying to ignore.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 15/02/2015 10:16

Hi birding. Try not to worry too much about the logistics of having another child just yet. You will work something out that works for your family. I often find myself trying to plan childcare arrangements and stuff for approximately 2-3 years time when dd is at school all day. Then I stop and remind myself that so much could happen between now and then it is pointless thinking about it!
No need to slink off "in shame" as you said, we have all had our ups and downs. I'm trying to think logically; that weight loss is a journey. It won't be all plain sailing (after all if it were, we probably wouldn't be at this size in the first place), and there will be slip ups. Hopefully we'll learn something from them.

I will be weighing in tomorrow, and taking measurements. No more sodding about. I feel in a better head space to do this properly now. I have made a couple of small changes to find what works for me/hhelps me

  • drinking more water. I feel so much better for it, that this is now easy and it's starting to form as a new habit. I drink 2 glasses of water as soon as I wake up, and one before I go to bed (plus more throughout the day of course). This has helped to get rid of the hungover feeling each morning, which reduces sugar cravings
  • smoothie is the best breakfast option for me. Strangely it doesn't make me want more sugar - just keeps me full for hours
  • keeping busy in the evenings so I avoid mindless / boredom eating. I have treated myself to a couple if new books this week, and I have a cross stitch to do whilst watching TV. I have also stopped taking snacks to work, as I get so bored at the moment I end up eating everything in my bag! I keep telling myself that I won't starve in 5hrs lol

Going to go through chocolate stash later. I have found that I no longer like Nestlé chocolate (llast bounty I had tasted like it was covered in cheap advent calendar chocolate!) and some Cadburys is debatable. Going to divvy up all the cheap stuff between dh and dsis, leaving myself with just the good lindt, which I will savour as the odd treat, not a daily/ttwice daily fix!!

Wow that's a long post.......hope it saves!!!

OP posts:
ColdFeetWarmHeart · 15/02/2015 10:18

Yay it saved! Have a good day everyone! X

OP posts:
BirdingWidow · 15/02/2015 10:52

ColdFeet, you are right about not worrying too much - I guess I just find it hard compromising at home and work all the time, but that is the life of a working mother!

So yesterday was my first day on slimming world, was fine. The true test will be a busy working week. This week will be interesting as DS appears to have chicken pox and I have AF and a big deadline! Am being inspired by the irises that have strated blooming in out garden - makes me feel that spring is around the corner and I want to wear my nice clothes this summer!

TakesTwoToTango · 15/02/2015 14:24

Hello all and welcome back birding

One step forward two steps back here. I have been dreadful about maintaining the healthy eating while my knee has been bad. It is starting to get much better though so I am hoping I can start walking again this week.

I've put back on 4lbs so now at -12 since the start of the year. I have an event coming up in early march, so three weeks time, and I am aiming to lose half a stone by then!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 15/02/2015 15:29

Well tww is up today and AF is here Hmm so healthy eating starts again, and more time to she's some lbs before I hopefully get pregnant.
May or may not try for the next couple of months anyway as not sure if we want a November/December or january baby.
So head in the game and let see what we all can do. Grin

TakesTwoToTango · 17/02/2015 23:09

Sorry AF got you yellow Sad

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 18/02/2015 12:04

I wasn't feeling very hopeful due to dhs shifts so didn't put much effort in. Lol
Had a good few days eating wise. No exercise due to difficulty walking. AF fairly ramps up the rheumatism so hopefully better in a few days.
Going out to mothercare on the hunt for some toy story pjs for ds. So will at least be doing some walking even if it is around shops. Wink Too wet outside for the park today.

TakesTwoToTango · 19/02/2015 11:03

Not putting much effort in here this month either - too much stress and other things going on!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 19/02/2015 17:07

Our efforts this month are to spend more than 5mins a day together lol.

We're not ttc just yet. Will probably come off the pill in June. Gives me another 4 months to improve my diet. And hopefully put a bit of money away.

Have given up eating chocolate, cakes and biscuits for lent. so have my mum, brother and sister so I am getting daily to texts about food!

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 19/02/2015 17:32

Wow cold! Good luck with that! I'm sitting here with a jar of Nutella and a spoon Sad Blush [stressed]

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 19/02/2015 18:20

I've got to stop the bingeing on rubbish food. Today was the first day I didn't wake up feeling like death, and I think it was because I didn't have anything sugary before bed. Instead of biscuits or chocolate just before bed, last night I had a mini pizza. Probably still not the healthiest thing to eat, but yay me for no sugar!!

Have treated myself today to more M&S Champion seeds bread.....yummy!!

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 19/02/2015 20:15

Oh I love that bread cold!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 21/02/2015 22:43

so do I - I had 3 slices of it at lunchtime!! Whoops!

Really struggled today with the no chocolate or cakes etc. Esp no chocolate. Badly craving sugar cos I'm so tired. I hate working Saturdays!

OP posts:
ColdFeetWarmHeart · 23/02/2015 08:56

Going to start calorie counting today as well as cutting put junk food. I have been hit and miss with this up till now, which is no good. Yes am eating less junk but feel I am still eating too much overall. Esp bread etc
supposed to be meeting a relative and her ds today to go for a walk. I don't know how long we'll be but I hope to have a little time to plan this week's food before I leave for work

I hating work even more now. Am looking forward to maternity leave so much as afterwards I plan to look for a new job! I want to get out of that bloody call centre and hopefully stop working evenings.......tthough this may all be wishful thinking!!!!

OP posts:
BirdingWidow · 23/02/2015 18:57

I lost 5 lb on my first week of slimming world. The hardest thing about it is being organised and thinking ahead, rather than 'being good' as such. I HAVE to prepare lunch the night before to take to work otherwise it will all go wrong - that's the bit I am not sure I can keep up, with the hours I work! Still, I feel encouraged. I generally do well the first week (losing bloat really) and it will slow down but if I can manage 7 lb per month I could be 3 st lighter by the summer, which is when we plan to start ttc. (Not starting before then due to mat pay entitlement, though it is leaving it a lot bit longer than I'd like). If I managed that is be overweight but not obese, and hopefully my joints etc would cope! I don't feel confident that I can keep it up but I will give it a damn good try.

Cold, I can't resist bread, it's a huge weakness for me. I have pretty much had to forget about it, except the occasional bit of toast with beans etc. Fresh crusty bread and butter is one of life's great pleasures but i am staying focused!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 24/02/2015 01:00

Well done birding!
I will go on the scales tomorrow, not feeling hopeful as been lazy and made stupid food choices. We shall see...
Organised is the key, been bulk cooking today
I did make cakes for ds but cut them up and froze them, so not tempted.
