Need to lose weight before ttc no2!

I thought I'd start a thread as it's likely there are others in the same position.

Gave one DD who is 2.3. Would like to have another child at some point in the non too distant future but firstly I really need to lose weight, as

  1. I'm far too heavy at the moment and my knees and feet have started to ache with the strain etc. I really don't think I'd cope physically being pregnant at this size
  2. I have PCOS and the erratic periods that go with it. Weight loss supposedly helps with this (no personal experience to date) My plan at the moment is to be sensible - more home cooked meals with plenty of fruit and veg, and less processed crap! I really don't eat well, especially lately (I work evening shifts, and we moved house 3 weeks ago - I h Ave been grabbing what i can, when I can!)

I shall technically be starting on Monday, as I will be spending some of this weekend meal planning. But as of first thing in the morning I shall be starting on 3 meals a day instead of constant grazing!

MarkingMyPlace9 · 24/03/2015 15:42

It is very strange ColdFeet I believe it's something to do with the Nerve Endings/Muscles that they cut through during the section. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's very strong! Always makes me think I'm preggers, and very far gone!

Very true. As you both Work, I'm guessing these 4 Days off will be break for you all! And it is nice to have quality time the 3 of you. Oh gosh, that sounds horrible. So when you come off the Pill, is there anything else you can take/do to help keep the PCOS under control? It's a bit shit otherwise! Especially as it can take a while to get Preggers!

Haha Yellow That is a bit pointless whilst TTC!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 24/03/2015 16:46

I get that sometimes marking, it's like the baby turning, ??my friend got it a while a go when I was with her and freaked out thinking her implant wasn't working.
She's got 3 kids and doesn't want anymore but her dh refuses to get the snip
We both had sections, never thought there was a link.

MarkingMyPlace9 · 24/03/2015 17:27

Yep, must be quiet common then, but everyone just freaks out thinking there pregnant again!
When it happened to me yesterday my stomach was moving - freaky!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 24/03/2015 23:14

Well I am forewarned about that one should I ever have a c section lol.

I am going to start taking metformin again now, and can carry on taking that while we are ttc. That should help to reduce symptoms, as well as eating a low sugar diet and regular exercise.
I did a small amount of regular exercise for about 3 months when we were ttc last time. and was on metformin for 2.5 months before I fell pregnant. I can't remember exactly but I think it helped with some symptoms. I didn't follow a strict low sugar diet last time (I was on lower calorie, but I wasn't counting sugar).
So, my plan is regular exercise, low sugar diet, metformin and evening primrose oil! And keeping my fingers crossed lol.

Can I join you guys please? Starting to try for our 2nd this month but could do with losing 2 stone. Had my 2nd mmc in dec (child in between).

Doing harcombe and running and trying to concentrate on health and feeling better rather than llbs lost. If I'm not pregnant each month going to try and think I have the chance to get a bit more healthy. Well I will see how long that lasts but determined to stay positive!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 25/03/2015 11:55

Welcome lion Grin
We have all kind of lost the place at the moment, so you might be a push to keep us on the straight and narrow.
Grin

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 25/03/2015 13:22

Lost it yellow? I'm not sure if I was ever on track lol

Welcome lion and good luck x

I was all up for it for the first month, then I get distracted.
I'm sooooo tired today and crampy, wish AF would make an appearance or a bfp. This limbo is doing my head in.
My head is mush today as well.
Me and ds had quesadillas for lunch with cucumber and strawberries after breakfast of cereal and bananas.
No idea what I'm cooking for dinner tonight.
Might make chicken chow mein with veg as trying to run down cupboards and freezer just now.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 25/03/2015 14:33

I'm all for it for a few days at a time, then I eat some cap and say I'm going to start again tomorrow, and so the cycle continues......

I am finding it quite hard to break my addiction to junk foods. But it us something I need to do. I know there would be untold benefits to eating a low sugar, unprocessed diet, but it is hard to get there after a lifetime of eating processed foods.........I know, excuses excuses! !

Just been googling to see what weight I'd need to be to be allowed to use birthing centre at local hospital. Apparently I need a bmi of less than 35 at 36 week check. So that's what I'm aiming for at the moment. Bmi of 35, which for me is 13st 7........

thelionsleeps · 25/03/2015 15:10

Well I haven't started too well! Made the mistake of going out without breakfast and then got mega hungry and got a bit of a crap lunch at the supermarket from the help yourself deli. Ho hum - did my shred dvd this morning so will just try and drink loads of water and get back on track.

It is hard isn't it cold? I find once I'm back in the zone I'm ok but it is a hard 2 or 3 days to get there!

I swear the caramel egg easter eggs were calling me from the shelf "we are only £1 eat us" so at least I resisted them. Why does chocolate have to be so cheap. Onwards and upwards!

MarkingMyPlace9 · 25/03/2015 15:31

What is Metformin ColdFeet? All these things I am learning! I just take Folic Acid daily atm. Sounds like you have a good plan there.
Hi Lion Good luck! Even if your having a bad Day, it's still nice to come on this thread and chat to everyone. Sorry to hear about your mmc in Dec Flowers How old is your LO? Wow, sounds like you are doing very well exercisewise!
I'm the same, at the beginning of the Week I'm always raring to go, and I'm dreaming of the lbs I would have lost by the Weekend, but by Wednesday I'm dreaming of Pizza and Chocolate Grin
Have you resisted doing any more Tests Yellow? Or have they not arrived yet?
Chocolate is far too cheap, and I'm a sucker for Easter Eggs!!!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 25/03/2015 18:26

Tests have not arrived yet marking, I specifically didn't get them on prime for next day delivery.
But been so crampy, bloated and moody all day. So feels like AF might make an appearance....
We shall see

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 26/03/2015 00:15

always dangerous lion - I was thinking of going to the shops today, but have avoided it at all costs as I had a bad nights sleep, and I knew I would buy lots of sugary things!!

Metformin is actually an antidiabetic drug for those with type 2 diabetes. It's getting more common to prescribe it to women with PCOS now, especially those ttc. It helps lower blood sugar levels in your body, and improve insulin sensitivity. This should also reduce insulin levels. PCOS sufferers have higher levels of insulin (or people with high levels of insulin have PCOS - no-one knows yet which one comes first and causes the other). High insuline levels causes the ovaries to make more androgen hormones such as testerone, causing the infrequent periods, body hair, acne etc. So in theory, the metformin should help me in lots of ways too. But it works best when combined with a low sugar/low gi diet, and regular exercise.

I am a sucker for chocolate. I love the stuff. I eat some every day. My husband never used to have a sweet tooth, but now he takes some chocolate to bed every night!!
Even on my low sugar diet I plan to have some chocolate every day, but I will try to just have something small like a little dairy milk bar or a freddo or something. I need to learn to savour it.....lol

are you normally regular yellow?

OP posts:
MarkingMyPlace9 · 26/03/2015 09:31

Bless you Yellow How annoying, to me, being late is being preggers. But I suppose it's not always as simple as that!
Gosh, having PCOS sounds like a Royal PITA ColdFeet
I have some Chocolate coming on the Shopping tomorrow. DH is out Tomorrow Night, so I thought why not! I used to have a 2 Finger Kit Kat per Night when I was on Weight Watchers, the Dark Chocolate ones were really low Points (This was the old Points System though) And Jaffa Cakes were 1/2 Point each. So something like that might be good

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 26/03/2015 22:28

to be fair, all the issues with PCOS aren't too bad, as long as you know what to do to minimise them etc. However, most GP's etc don't really know much about it, so don't tell you what lifestyle choices will make you feel better and why! I was diagnosed in 2007, and all I was told at the time was I'd have great difficulty getting pregnant. The reasons behind that were never explained. No GP has really said anything about my PCOS since, even when I have gone in about it!! Even when I was placed on Metformin for the PCOS, nothing was explained to me. I have learned all I know about PCOS from books and the internet!

A little bit of chocolate is ok marking. better to plan to have a small piece, then try to abstain completely and end up bingeing!!
I did buy some dark chocolate today (85%). I shall try and make my evening treat a couple of squares of this with a glass of milk. Or a hot chocolate made with milk and cocoa powder. though tonight it is going to be a hot cup of tea with something, poss a bag of crisps. DH has fallen asleep on the sofa, so I am off upstairs to watch tele in bed!

So, MIL is coming down on Friday. I am hoping that she will go home on Sunday, as 2 nights really is enough. If it all gets a bit too much then I shall be spending most of saturday night having a shower, washing my hair, and then blow drying and straightening it! lol
I bought a bottle of wine in readiness as well.

I have been doing a bit of googling this evening, to find some no/low sugar cakes etc. Tomorrow I shall be making some banana and sultana flapjacks with DD. Also got some basic recipes for sponge cake and fairy cakes using splenda. I want to follow low sugar, low carb if I can, but I don't want DD to miss out on making cakes, or having treats.I'm also hoping that the more good low sugar recipes I can find, the easier it will be for me to stick to!!

Hi all, sorry, my post last week doesn't seem to have posted. Sorry to hear about mil visit cold and AF frustrations yellow. Hoping it all turns out better than expected for both of you.

Not managing any exercise here. Had some bleeding so am taking it easy. Food is a really struggle. They put sugar in everything here - bought some cheese and spinach scones the other day as a savoury snack, bit into one and nearly spat it out - checked the ingredients and sugar was the second ingredient! In a cheese scone! Seriously?! Even the bread tastes like
Cake to me Sad

MarkingMyPlace9 · 30/03/2015 12:11

Sounds like you have done your Research into PCOS ColdFeet I suppose you need to!
I did have a little binge of Chocolate this Weekend, but not as bad as the Weekend before, and certainly not as bad a binge as I'll be having this Weekend!! Wink Will weigh myself tomorrow or Wednesday Morning to see the damage done.
I do hope you have a good Weekend with your MIL this Weekend and that She doesn't outstay Her welcome!
Oh, sounds lovely. Did you find any decent Recipes? Send the Links on please if you have, I have not done any Baking with DS yet, I do think He's not there yet and it'll be far too messy But I also know I'll end up eating all the Cakes after!
AF made an appearance yet Yellow?
Hi TakesTwo! How's the move going? How are you feeling? Sorry to hear about the Bleeding, hope everything is Ok? Wow. Sugar in everything eh? Well that's going to make eating Healthy/cutting out Sugar difficult for you!

TakesTwoToTango · 30/03/2015 12:22

Yep, exactly marking am doing a lot more cooking at home that I planned to at this point (we are in a hotel and they serve breakfast every morning and three dinners a week but it is such high sugar, high fat slop that I'm ending up cooking our own in our tiny hotel kitchen). Hey ho. It's a good discipline to get into I suppose. I also have no scales so it's impossible to know what impact it's having on my weight. Might pop out and buy some today maybe, although I have two sets coming in the shipping which should arrive in about 3-4 weeks...

How are you all feeling today?

thelionsleeps · 30/03/2015 21:49

Not doing too bad here but 3 meals out in 4 days has meant I have slipped a bit. I had some wine on friday and do find that it hits me hard as I'm not eating as many carbs. Felt abit delicate on saturday and ended up eating crap.
Away for easter so already thinking sod it but determined to try.

Baking can be hard with low/no sugar- i find pinterest great for recipe ideas.

Hope everyone doing better than me!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 30/03/2015 23:41

Definitely take it easy for now takes two. You have enough on your plate at the moment anyway! What country have you moved to?

I have found a recipe for banana and sultana flapjacks that we made today. Very low in added sugar (jjust 1 tbsp of honey in recipe, though I used golden syrup today), and about half the butter compared to my traditional recipe. They are a hit with my dd and she enjoyed making then with me (sshe mashed the bananas).
Can't post the link from my phone, but will do it tomorrow from laptop.

Hi I'm back, AF appeared 15 days late!!!
have been feeling horrific for days, so kind of glad I have at least an answer. Think dh is disappointed as well.

So i now have to do get back on the proper eating again.
The freezer is full of bulk cooked stuff I did the other day so at least it's portioned controlled and I will try and refrain from baking unless it's lower fat/sugar stuff.

I started the day off with a banana and muesli but did go out for lunch, asI had been at the hospital for a check up so went to an Italian for pizza with ds. But we shared a pizza and no ice cream.

Ds has football training on Mondays Now and I'm going to go swimming once a week with him, and I may finally put him in the crèche to try and go to a class of some description just doing my research just now.

Will weigh myself tomorrow Shock

Hope everyone is doing well

MarkingMyPlace9 · 31/03/2015 17:02

Hi all, weighed myself this Morning, still at the same weight, which is good, but I'm just not feeling it atm Have talked DH into getting Pizza tonight So think I won't be back on Track till after Easter Weekend, but will try and not binge in the meantime!
How's the Cooking in the Hotel coming along TakesTwo? I hope it's a big Hotel Room as I'm guessing it's the 4 of you there! I wouldn't rush out to buy Scales, especially if you have some on their way to you!!
Wow, 3 Meals out in 4 Days sounds lovely Lion! Great, thank You, I'll have a look on Pinterest.
How did the Flapjacks go ColdFeet?
(Kinda) Glad to hear AF finally arrived Yellow Just purely for you to have a yay or nay! I would hate that. Sounds like your doing well, and your back on track. And Swimming is so good, it's deff the best exercise to do, and so easy if your a good Swimmer/Enjoy it!
