New Year, New Thread #16 For Paul McKenna's Losers!!! He Can Make Us Thin!!!

Solo · 01/01/2015 13:03

Happy New Year Everyone!
Welcome to thread #16 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.
Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" have a glass of water to see if it's real hunger or just thirst; wait 15 or 20 minutes if you can, before eating something to see if it's 'gone off' after a drink. Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.
Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things! :)

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain; we just need to change how we treat food and ourselves.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose; it's very doable.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2015 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Hypnotic Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to Freedom From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is 'there?' We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! Smile 1lb at a time....

Hi, hows everyone doing today. as ever I am going to say that I have had mixed success. Reasonable steps (didn't quite reach my 18,000 target) and food not too bad but not great either. I usually manage to leave a bite of breakfast and lunch, but forget after that. Someone mentioned the Paul app, think I will get it.

bubulix · 17/01/2015 05:27

octupus I think the app and spending money on it has definitely encouraged me to commit 3 weeks to this and then it will be well on its way to becoming a habit. But having the book too has been needed as it has a lot more personality to it and I can read it over and over again and feel revved up by it.

Also I'd say it's not as scientific as just leaving a bit (unless you are amazingly good at judging your appetite in advance.

For example yesterday I wanted a egg sandwich for breakfast. Used an egg, butter and two slices of bread and cut in two triangles. I was full after one bite of the second triangle and threw the rest of it away. Then I made baked potato with filling for my lunch and threw almost half away as I was full.

Sometimes between meals I start to feel myself nearing fairly/slightly hungry so I have a crisp or two (I've had the same 30g ridges crisp packet on the go for 3 days now - amazing as I'd normally have the packet wolfed down in 30 secs before) and this takes me more to the neutral feeling and then I'm hungry by the next meal time.

Millli · 17/01/2015 13:32

bubulix you have described exactly how I eat after over ten years of doing this mindful eating. Some people are surprised when I say I can have a few mouthfuls of something and then I am done but when those very mouthfuls are tasty, flavoursome and have been made with fats etc then that is all I need to feel satisfied and the true hunger has been abated.

bubulix · 17/01/2015 15:21

So proud of myself. We were out for a family meal and I ordered light bites fish and chips as before we went I could imagine how fantastic the crunch and chewiness of the fish would be. Every mouthful I had was amazing (orgasmic even!) and I enjoyed chatting between mouthfuls and finished last (leaving half the plate!). Everyone else scoffed down their meal and had a pudding after, then groaned at how stuffed they were. I didn't feel I was missing out on pudding as I had no room for it and had enjoyed my main so much and I know the puddings look better than they taste from there.

Instead I went to a deli nearby afterwards and bought a gorgeous slice of cheesecake to have later today.

I was worried before that I'd go mad today as I am noticibly hungrier than I have been the last few days (I imagine fluctuations in appetite are normal for the naturally thin) but I felt so in control!

Millli · 17/01/2015 15:24

Well done. Grin Grin

Octopus37 · 17/01/2015 22:14

Wow, well done, I have been hungrier the last couple of days, time of the month, but have a couple of times tried to be mindful. Today have eaten:

1 piece of toast with peanut butter (left a mouthful)
1 bourbon
2 quavers
Sausage roll, left a couple of mouthfuls
A couple of chocolate cookies (not great I know)
1 chocolate
Some pasta with bacon, mushroom and dolmio, left a few spirals.
A boost bar
I am now having a kiwi and lime cider

Managed to not eat mid morning just cause my boys were
Managed not to pick at crisps whilst cooking the dinner

I know that when I look at what I eat, it is probably loads more than most people on here and I feel desperate for choc and carbs at the moment, but generally not that bothered about crisps. Managed 20,000 steps today so was pleased with that.

Off for afternoon tea at Claridges tomorrow, a belated birthday present, looking forward to it. Will have a better idea how I am doing from my weigh in on Monday but think for me the whole mindful eating concept is going to take me time to get the hang of.

Millli · 17/01/2015 23:56

Your doing fine Octopus. Just keep being mindful. Try to think of maintaining as the goal and then any loses will be a bonus. You know that you can lose weight this way but slow and steady is the way to go if you want it to be for life.

bubulix · 18/01/2015 06:50

octupus that sounds fab - there's nothing wrong with cookies! I ended up having cheesecake for my tea! Everyone has a different appetite - also with doing so many steps per day (around 10 miles I think) you are bound to be hungrier and as paul says Eat When You are Hungry.

That's one week completed - on to week two.

Octopus37 · 18/01/2015 07:56

Thanks guys, I have been slated on threads in the past for my eating habits. You're right about the different appetite thing, slow and steady is best as well. Also know how much walking has helped me to drop a bit of weight and change shape in the past so for me that is key. It is lovely to be part of a thread where everybody is so supportive of each other.

bubulix · 18/01/2015 11:35

Before you start the afternoon tea ask if they have boxes for leftovers. Then you can eat until you are satisfied and know you can take the leftovers home - rather than feel you are wasting your money if you only eat a little.

Solo · 18/01/2015 13:49

Hi everyone! just dropping by quickly; on my way out to have Sunday roast at Mums.
Hi bubulix :) welcome from me too!

Will catch up properly later on.

Happy Sunday!

Octopus sorry if I have mentioned this before but have you read the book? The apps are fine but the book tells you all you need to know about eating like a person with no food or diet issues. It sounds like you may still be in the good food bad food frame of mind.

Millli · 18/01/2015 14:21

Hi Solo Grin

Hello all, I hope everyone is well and had a good weekend.

I went a bit overboard with my eating towards the end of last week, and I'm not entirely sure why. I definitely ate when I wasn't hungry, and kept eating what was on my plate when I was already full. And yesterday I made a complete pig of myself - so much so that I felt around 6 months pregnant, my belly was that full and overstretched. I therefore have put about 1lb back on Sad

Getting back on it today (overate at breakfast, so will be starting again from now!), and will set aside time to listen to the CD and maybe re-read the book this evening. And I'll ask my DH to hide the scales, as I tend to let them dictate my mood and if they've not shown a loss I get a bit bingey (I know that's not a word).

Have a good week, all Smile

Octopus37 · 19/01/2015 14:58

Hi Milli, I have bought the book and CD today and have started reading the book already. Wasn't as mindful as I meant to be with the afternoon tea but I didn't half enjoy it. Today, have eaten so far:

2 (meaning 2 packs of 2) Nature valley cereal bars
1 mini toblerone (hero)
1 slice of Greggs pizza

Have done a lot of walking so far £about 14,000 steps) and have quite a bit of the day to go.

Millli · 19/01/2015 18:33

Octopus Im glad you got the book and CD. I think that the books provide much more basic information to help you understand the connection between diets and weight gain/good food, bad food and how you can re learn to eat "normally" again. I love the CDs and find them relaxing. I have not listened to any of the apps as the reviews for Android ones were not the best.

Me yesterday

Roast Chicken (quarter of a breast) homemade roastie, roast sweet potato, roast parsnip, carrots, cauli with cheese sauce, brocc, sweetcorn, kale and peas with homemade gravy.

Some quality street/heros mix

lots of tea

Me Today

3 slices of Pizza
some quality street/heros mix
a few peanuts

PoirotsMoustache Sometimes when we have lost weight on the scales we somehow seem to have a "mini overeating" session and we feel out of control. Just let it wash over you and get back on to mindful eating as soon as you feel ready. The overeating may have been helping you through something emotionally or maybe you hoped on the scales and saw a gain and self sabotaged.

PoirotsMoustache · 19/01/2015 20:24

Milli, Thank you, I think you're right you know - I did feel a bit out of control over the weekend, and slipped back into 'eat all the naughty stuff now'. I did better today, but not brilliantly. However, as the great Scarlet O'Hara once said, "Tomorrow is another day"! Thank you for the encouragement.

Your food for yesterday sounds delicious by the way. Are you looking for a job as a personal chef by any chance... Grin

Millli · 19/01/2015 21:17

lol x

Octopus37 · 19/01/2015 21:28

Weighed myself today, have stayed the same but once again have gone off the rails foodwise. Quite mindful about until dinner time. I made a homemade cottage pie and ate too much of it, then had one chocolate eclair sweet and another cereal bar. Didn't feel uncomfortable though, but know it was probably a bit emotional, have no heating or hot water at the mo and just feel cold and fed up. Also not that great with my steps today, just over 14,000. Still tomorrow is a new day, know this is going to take me a long time to get the hang of it properly. Have realised that I frequently eat whilst doing other things, for instance Mumsnet as it is sometimes the only chance to wind down, think this is something I need to address.

Millli · 19/01/2015 22:09

I know that feeling Octopus. We don't have central heating in our cottage, just an open fire in the lounge and being cold does make you feel out of sorts. I wear about 4 layers at home. Long vest top, long sleeved top, woollen jumper and big long woollen cardigan with hood, fingerless gloves, skinnies tucked into wool socks and then sheepskin Celtic (Ugg type) boots. They are the best thing I have ever had. Keep me so warm that I almost cry when I have to remove them. Smile

bubulix · 20/01/2015 09:13

Well I had a funny day yesterday filled with self doubt that the system was working.

As I have become aware of my actual appetite I've started plating up less at meal times which has meant I'm leaving food still but it looks less than I left in my first few days obviously. I think seeing less food left on my plate has made me worry that I'm eating too much this week even though I'm eating so much less than ever before.....

It's also coincided with later nights going to bed and then staying awake through the CD - whereas last week I dozed off to it each night. If I'm fully awake while listening but tired the CD starts to annoy me so that's possibly affected my resolve.

Oh well, today is a new day! I'm still in the early stages and learning.
I really wanted to go on the scales this for some confirmation I'm doing it right but husband followed my earlier instructions and wouldn't give in and tell me where they are!

I think I'll make the time to read a bit of the book today to motivate myself!

How is everyone else doing?

bubulix · 20/01/2015 11:53

So husband is out for a bit (we both work from home so are together a lot) and I found the scales - how bad is it that I hunted for them! Hopefully I'll deal with that addiction while I work on my food addiction.

So I don't know what I expected after 9 days but I've lost 5 pounds and my initial reaction was disappointment! Annoyed with myself for weighing and for being disappointed.

My thought was "I've been through all that for 5 pounds!" then I thought 1. 5 pounds is fantastic and will hopefully be 6 pounds by my 2 week weigh in.

  1. What is it that I've been through.... I've still got that diet mentality that this is hard and that I'm giving up something.

In reality this week I've eaten Chinese takeaway, fish and chips, cheesecake, full fat Irn Bru, lots of bread, lots of butter, garlic bread, gnocchi, pasta bake, crisps, chocolate..... Foods that I could never have on SW and that I enjoyed every mouthful of without guilt or that feeling that I've failed.

My motto for today is enjoy every mouthful with no regrets, weight loss or not!

Octopus37 · 20/01/2015 12:39

Well don you, 5 pounds is fantastic, you are doing so well. I am in a better mindset today:

Had 2 fruisli bars for breakfast. left a bit of one of them
1 Chocolate
2 pieces of cheese and toast with pickle (did eat it all)
3 bacon rashers

Getting there slowly but surely, will read a bit more of the book today and do more steps. I am setting myself a rough goal of my weight being off for summer (would like to lose 5 pounds, but 9 would be better). Know that sounds like a long time away (certainly feels like it with the weather) but I only lose weight slowly.
